Dune: Awakening to get self-hosted servers, plus they’re splitting PvE and PvP

Dune: Awakening to get self-hosted servers, plus they’re splitting PvE and PvP

Funcom are finally dealing with some of the wider issues in the MMO Dune: Awakening, which includes expanded self-hosting support and more focus on PvE.

In an announcement on Steam the developers noted that they’re trying to balance priorities with the struggling MMO, which has seen player numbers drop pretty sharply from the original release. While the game originally blended the PvE and PvP worlds together, they’re now going to be making the PvP a lot more optional. Why? They said “over 80% of our lifetime players exclusively engaging with PvE content” so forcing PvP in some areas appears to have been worknig against it.

With that in mind they’re making PvP much more optional with these major changes coming:

All PvP zones in Hagga Basin will be disabled across all official Worlds.
All official Worlds will have separate Deep Desert instances you can choose from:

A PvE instance for pure survival and exploration experience with no player combat. There is no PvP in this instance across any of the rows, including Shipwrecks.
A PvP instance with the classic high-stakes environment and open-world conflict across rows B through I. To make sure the rewards match the risk, the yield from mining and spice harvesting will be multiplied by 2.5 in PvP areas.

And, in a win for game preservation, they’ve announced that self-hosted servers are finally coming to the game. You could previously rent some private areas from certain hosting platforms, but this mixed with the bigger public areas. It wasn’t the best solution but now they’re going to be changing that with full self-hosting. This is great, as Funcom will inevitably move on from the game at some point, so at least everyone who wants to will be able to just host the full thing themselves.

Here’s how they explained the changes coming for that:

Self-hosted Servers Are Coming!

We are thrilled to announce that Self-Hosting is coming to Dune: Awakening. Whether you want to host a private server for friends or foster a community with unique rules, the power is moving into your hands.

The initial iteration, which will be available for testing soon, will require a few extra steps to set up and feature a limited range of customization settings. These settings will include resource harvesting rates, adjustable limits on base building pieces, or item durability and base decay options, with more customization settings being rolled out later. All these customization options will also be available on private servers right from the start. We are releasing it early to get feedback on this experimental version and improve it alongside you. More features and improvements will be added throughout the year.

Full instructions on how to set up and customize self-hosted servers will be included in the patch notes when the feature becomes available. Please be advised that the initial setup for this first iteration of the feature is more technical than most other games and requires a computer running Microsoft Windows Pro with Hyper-V in order to run the servers in a Linux Virtual Machine (VM).

We are, of course, still working on future updates. The goal is to work on improving these customization tools along with those releases, but we will talk about that in dune time. We are excited to continue crafting a survival experience that can stand the test of time in the new era of Dune: Awakening.

Thank you for walking this path with us.

Gray Zone Warfare: Sunken Bird Quest Guide

The Lamang Armed Forces have lost a Mi-17 helicopter somewhere in the swamps southeast of Fort Narith, and Gunny wants to waste no time in finding out how it came down and, most importantly, what the bird was carrying in the first place.

Sunken Bird is a side task in Gray Zone Warfare that takes place in the YBL-1 area once you unlock it. It is given to you by Gunny, one of the vendors with the most missions (and therefore one of the easiest ones to level up quickly).

Sunken Bird Quest Walkthrough

This is a straightforward recon mission with little opposition, unless you’re unlucky enough to find another player trying to complete it.

The quest area is located in a small swamp between landing zone Lima 2, due east of the YBL-1 bunker, and major COP Titan.

Locate the Downed LAF Helicopter

Once you reach the swamp area, your first order is to locate and inspect the crashed helicopter.

Gray Zone Warfare: Unlisted Flight Quest Guide

A Boeing 737 has come down in Lamang, and Lab Rat needs to find out why.

You can find it in grid square 151, 120, snuggled up against the horizontal grid line. After locating the helicopter, go around to the back where a small wooden boat is parked to complete this objective and receive further instructions from Gunny.

Locate the Cargo from the Helicopter

A quick inspection of the wreckage shows that you were not the first one to reach the crash site, and whoever beat you to it also made sure to unload the precious cargo Gunny sent you after.

Your next objective is a small LLA camp to the southwest of the crash site, guarded by two to four soldiers armed with assault rifles.

Clear them out, then head into the large house, where you will find a wide assortment of nuclear, biological, chemical (NBC) gear, including full suits and respirators.

Approach the half-open wooden crate with a gas mask over it in the southwestern corner of the house, and interact with it to report your findings to Gunny. This will complete the Sunken Bird task in Gray Zone Warfare.

Physint casting call teases a scene inspired by a classic ’90s movie

Physint casting call teases a scene inspired by a classic ’90s movie

New casting call details for Physint, Hideo Kojima’s in-development spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series, have been spotted. This specific round of casting appears to be for a scene clearly inspired by Speed, as it features several characters on a hijacked bus.

An April 12 report by MP1st revealed more details, including that Physint is condnamed Shimmer, at least for the casting process. Specifically, they discovered that casting director Mari Ueda is looking for actors to portray people on a hijacked bus. That includes a mother with a newborn baby, five teenagers, and a German man who is supposed to be “intense” and “confident in a psychotic way.” The description of the German man also references Mads Mikkelsen’s performance in Hannibal, a surprising connection given that Mikkelsen previously appeared in Death Stranding.

Image: Kojima Productions/Sony Interactive Entertainment

As of now, it’s unclear if this casting is just for minor single-scene roles or if the people on this hijacked bus will be important to Physint’s overarching narrative. If nothing else, it suggests that the game will likely pay tribute to the film Speed at some point, which is fitting as Hideo Kojima loves referencing films in his games.

Any small bits of information we get on Physint are tantalizing, as not much is known about the project. Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment first teased Physint during a January 2024 State of Play, but comments made by Hideo Kojima since have indicated that the project is a ways off from launch. Currently, the only actors confirmed for the project are Don Lee, Charlee Fraser, and Minami Hamabe, but this casting call shows that the process of getting more talent on board is still ongoing.

Physint does not currently have a release date, but we know Kojima Productions will primarily develop it for PlayStation. Hideo Kojima’s next game is currently expected to be OD, which is being published by Xbox Game Studios and will star Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer.

Double Dragon – A near Arcade experience brings back the nostalgia via JOTD for the Amiga AGA! [WIP UPDATE]

This week just gets better and better as another game has hit our news feeds and it’s none other than Double Dragon for the Amiga, but as an AGA edition. First released way back in the 80’s by Taito Corporation, Double Dragon in the Arcades was a fantastic beat ’em up game that featured high grade fighting two player fun on many different systems such as the Amstrad, Amiga and C64. But now thanks to JOTD, he is working on bringing the Amiga version more in line with the Arcade. In fact one person even said “I honestly thought that the original was the worst home conversion that could possibly exist.”

Original Version

AGA Version

The long-standing quest to bring a definitive, arcade-quality version of Double Dragon to the Amiga could be reaching its full potential. Legendary porter JOTD (Jean-François Fabre) has provided a significant update on the project, which is being developed specifically for AGA-equipped Amigas (such as the A1200 and A4000). After what JOTD described as “brutal debugging sessions,” the developer has successfully stabilized the core of the game, with scrolling still to fix and a completable game. While the original 1980s Amiga port was often criticized for poor graphics and lackluster performance, this new AGA edition which also features music by n09, aims to leverage the advanced chipset to deliver a much more faithful recreation of the arcade original.

This project follows JOTD’s successful track record of high-quality Amiga conversions, including recent releases like Dig Dug 2 (January 2026) and Bad Dudes vs DragonNinja. His ports are known for being “transcodes” that often use original arcade code (z80 to 68k assembly) to ensure maximum accuracy.

[UPDATE] – While the game isn’t yet ready for release, here is what was said underneath the latest gameplay video, about the upcoming Double Dragon AGA with music by n09. “Just featuring the attract mode with 2 players right now, but game is in an overall playable state at the moment. Stay tuned. 128 colors used (64 was really too washed down) .”

At one point, Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi was attached to direct, but he dropped out due to the working conditions with Blizzard. Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie, eventually signed on to direct the fantasy film. It bombed in the US but did massive numbers internationally to pull in $439 million worldwide, putting it at the top of the charts. Jones said he had plans for a trilogy, but the poor box office performance in the US means that will likely never happen.

7: Rampage (2018)

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson starred in 2018’s Rampage, an adaptation of the classic video game in which The Rock plays a primatologist who works with a supersized gorilla to fight other massive monsters. That’s good enough for Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman to call Uncharted Sony’s next big franchise, suggesting a sequel may be on the way. Director Ruben Fleischer has said he’s game for a sequel and has even outlined some of his ideas for a follow-up, including putting Uncharted 4’s epic car chase set piece into a potential Uncharted 2.

Domestic — $190,872,904International — $214,548,614Worldwide — $405,421,518

10: The Angry Birds Movie (2016)

Sony Pictures produced the animated film, which boasted an all-star voice cast that featured Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Sean Penn, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage. The screenplay was written by The Simpsons veteran Jon Vitti, and the film was directed by Disney animation veterans Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly. The rest of the cast included Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Gemma Artertron, and Toby Kebbel. The movie, which is based on Ubisoft’s popular series, was directed by Mike Newell, who previously directed Four Weddings and Funeral as well as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Similar to Warcraft, it made the bulk of its money from foreign markets, pulling in $245.6 million, or 73% of its worldwide total ($336.4 million), from markets outside the US.

Domestic – $90,759,676International – $245,606,000Worldwide – $336,365,676

12: Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

The film features Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, with Jim Carrey playing the evil Dr. Robotnik. The success of the film led Paramount to quickly greenlight a sequel, which comes to theaters in April, featuring Knuckles and Tails, in addition to the returning cast.

13: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016)

Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil movie series wrapped up with 2016’s appropriately titled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which once again starred his partner, Mila Jovovich, in the lead role. In total, Anderson’s Resident Evil films, which are inspired by Capcom’s scary longrunning zombie video game series, have made more than $1 billion at the box office. Anderson and Jovovich stayed in business with Capcom after The Final Chapter, as they made the Monster Hunter movie in 2020.

Domestic – $26,830,068International – $285,412,558Worldwide – $312,242,626

Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, based on Capcom’s video game series, was released in 2010. Anderson returned to direct the film after stepping away from the series to direct Alien vs. Predator and work on other projects. Mila Jovovich starred as Alice, with a cast that also included Kim Coates, Wentworth Miller, and Shawn Roberts.

Domestic – $60,128,566International – $240,099,518Worldwide – $300,228,084

After multiple films starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander took on the role of Lara Croft in the 2018 film from The Wave director Roar Uthaug. The film was partly inspired by Crystal Dynamics’ 2013 reboot, telling an origin story for the character. Croft is trying to solve the mystery of her father’s (Dominic West) disappearance. The film also starred Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas. The movie made the bulk of its money ($216.4 million; 78.8%) from international markets, with just $58.25 million from the US. A sequel is now said to be in the works, but whether or not it ever gets made remains to be seen.

Karl Urban Wants To Star In A Red Dead Redemption Film

Karl Urban Wants To Star In A Red Dead Redemption Film

It’s a testament if your career kicks off with Lord of the Rings and only gets dorkier from there. New Zealand actor Karl Urban has stepped into starring gigs in Star Trek, Judge Dredd, The Boys and in short time Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat. But there’s one more feather Urban would like in his cap. It happens to be a video game character whose cap already has a feather in it: John Marston.

In an interview with Square Mile magazine, the actor said if he had his choice of any video game adaptation, it would be as John Marston in Red Dead Redemption. “I’d love to play that character,” said Urban. “Red Dead is a fantastic game. It’s interesting because I didn’t really have too much of an opportunity to get that heavily invested in the gaming culture… when I did get the rare opportunity, Red Dead was certainly one of the games that spoke to me.”

It goes without saying that Urban wanting to star in a Red Dead Redemption film does not mean an adaptation of the 2010 classic is in the pipeline. In fact, Rockstar seems to be one of the few major developers not chasing cross-media expansion (though they may have their hands full with Grand Theft Auto VI). Still, stranger things have happened than making a little wish. Kirsten Dunst was recently added to the cast of Minecraft 2 after telling Town & Country it was her dream role a year prior. Albeit because she wanted to “make a movie where I don’t lose money.”

The final season of The Boys began earlier this week. Urban will also be putting on Johnny Cage’s shades in Mortal Kombat II when it comes out in May. He told Square Mile to expect a slightly more humble rendition of the character, if only because Cage is left baggy a deflated ego. “He is a man that the world has forgotten about,” said Urban. “To me, that was really fertile ground to launch the character into. That gives me somewhere to go as an actor.”

Microsoft Might Be Considering Removing Call Of Duty From Game Pass

Microsoft Might Be Considering Removing Call Of Duty From Game Pass

When Microsoft hoovered up Activision-Blizzard for a terrifying sum of money, one of the biggest reasons was to feed the ever-hungry Game Pass with the biggest yearly release in the world, Call of Duty. But now, Microsoft is apparently considering removing the series from the subsciption.

Let’s be clear: this is just a rumour, stemming from Jez Corden of Window’s Central. According to Corden, who was speaking on the latest episode of his pesonal podcast: “it’llinteresting to see… if they take Call of Duty out of Game Pass this year, which is a possibility from what I’ve heard,”

Corden doesn’t mention exactly where he heard this, but he has proven connections within the industry, so presumably his source is inside of Microsoft or Activision-Blizzard.

Now that you’ve got the main snippet, let’s talk about the context that it was brought up in. For a good chunk of the episode, Corden is discussing Game Pass, the rumours of new tiers being introduced and the possibility of Xbox’s new boss bringing the pricing back down.

He explains that Microsoft internally uses a “member weighted” style formula to charge Game Pass for first‑party engagement, so a giant title like Call of Duty “vacuums up” a lot of that internal revenue, leaving less budget to bring in new games that help prevent churn. He also notes that putting Call of Duty day one into Game Pass hurts traditional Call of Duty sales at the same time, so the franchise is effectively damaging both Game Pass economics and CoD’s own business model.

From there he pivots into the pricing/tier question and says Microsoft may need more flexible bundles or tiers, suggesting that some “big service games” could be pushed into a higher, “super tier” while most games sit on a cheaper plan. In that context he throws out the idea that if Call of Duty is such a problem for the business, Microsoft should let people “get rid of Call of Duty” from their bundle and that he personally doesn’t need it. That leads into the line we’re interested in a bit later about the series potentially leaving the service completely.

On the one hand, it’s a big step backwards considering Call of Duty on Game Pass was one of the big reasons behind the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. On the other hand, if the series’ removal also brought the price back down, people would probably be pretty happy to see it go.

It would also mean yet another massive u-turn for Microsoft, which they’ve already done so many of that I’m getting fucking dizzy, my dudes.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any official Call of Duty sales numbers to really see how much of a decline the series has seen, but we do have anecedotal evidence suggesting sales have dipped quite badly.

Disney Dreamlight Valley: Grand Exhibition Peaceful Meadow Room Guide

Grand Exhibition is a brand-new feature in Disney Dreamlight Valley, added with the recent Whispers of the Wind update. It is a new project by Olaf in which he wants to show multiple displays of each biome of the Valley. To get started with this new feature, you must unlock Olaf first. After that, Olaf will ask you to place the Grand Exhibition building in the Valley. Once done, you can start working on the rooms inside the Grand Exhibition to complete the displays. For now, there are only two rooms available, including Peaceful Meadow and Dazzle Beach. The Peaceful Meadow room is a part of the main Olaf’s Grand Exhibition quest. This guide has everything you need to know for the Grand Exhibition Peaceful Meadow Room in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to Complete Grand Exhibition: Peaceful Meadow Room

Each room in the Gran Exhibition consists of three displays, including Diorama, Aquarium, and Habitat. To complete the Peaceful Meadow room in Grand Exhibition, the players complete all three displays in the room. Each display requires specific items from the Peaceful Meadow biome. Below, we have listed everything you need to complete each display in the Peaceful Meadow biome.

Peaceful Meadow – Diorama

To unlock the Diorama display, you will need to display a collection of biome-specific flowers. You can then complete the Blueprint panels to add biome-specific storyline elements to a Diorama. The flowers you need to gather and place on the display shelf are as follows.

Purple Rising Penstemon

Green Rising Penstemon

Yellow Daisy

Red Daisy

White Daisy

All of these flowers grow wild in the Peaceful Meadow biome. Pick up one of every flower and then go back to the Grand Exhibition to display them. As you place all the flowers on the display shelf, the diorama display will be revealed.

Here, you have to complete four blueprint panels. Each blueprint panel requires various materials that you have to contribute.

Left Panel: 67x Softwood, 21x Soil, 5x Rich Soil, 9x Dream Shard

Left Center Panel: 31x Softwood, 24x Stone, 2x Garnet, and 3x Peridot

Right Center Panel: 14x Softwood, 10x Coal Ore, 5x Night Shard, and 1x Onyx

Right Panel: 51x Softwood, 31x Seaweed, 5x Red Algae, and 13x Dream Shard

This should complete the Diorama display of the Peaceful Meadow room.

Peaceful Meadow Diorama Rewards

A red chest will appear in the center of the room. Open the chest to get a prize bag, containing the following items.

Peaceful Meadow Diorama Goofy

Peaceful Meadow Diorama Mirabel

Peaceful Meadow Diorama Pillar

Peaceful Meadow Diorama Thorns

Peaceful Meadow – Aquarium

To unlock the Aquarium display, you will need to display a collection of biome-specific gems. You can then fill the Aquarium with biome-specific fish. The gems you need to gather and place on the display shelf are as follows.

Garnet

Shiny Garnet

Peridot

Shiny Peridot

Onyx

Mine the mining nodes in the Peaceful Meadow biome to find the games. After getting one of each gem, go to the Grand Exhibition to display them. As you display all the gems on the display shelf, the aquarium display will be revealed.

Now, you need to add fish from the Peaceful Meadow biome to the aquarium to complete it. You need to catch the following fish from the Peaceful Meadow biome.

Bass: Fish in the open water (outside ripples).

Bream: Fish in the blue ripples.

Catfish: Fish in the gold ripples.

Rainbow Trout: Fish in the white ripples.

After catching all the fish, go back to the Grand Exhibition and transfer all the fish to the aquarium.

Peaceful Meadow Aquarium Rewards

Upon completing the Aquarium display, a red chest will spawn in the middle of the room. Interact with the chest to get a prize bag. Open the prize bag to get the Peaceful Meadow Aquarium (furniture item) as a reward.

Peaceful Meadow – Habitat

To unlock the Habitat display, you will need to display a collection of biome-specific foods. You can then fill the Habitat with biome-specific companions. The food items you need to gather and place on the display shelf are as follows.

Apple: Harvest the apple trees in the Plaza biome.

Carrot: Grow it using the Carrot Seeds.

Raspberry: Harvest from the bushes in the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow biomes.

Lettuce: Grow it using the Lettuce Seeds.

Basil: Pick up from the ground in the Peaceful Meadow biome.

After getting one of each food item, go to the Grand Exhibition to display them. As you display all the food items on the display shelf, the habitat display will be revealed.

Now, you need to add all types of Rabbits to the Habitat display to complete it. There are five types of rabbits you can find in Peaceful Meadow. If you have already befriended the rabbits, you can add them straightaway. However, if you don’t have rabbits, you can befriend them by feeding them a carrot. You have to chase down the rabbits to feed them the carrot.

Black Rabbit: Available (All Day) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Available (12 AM to 12 PM) on Sunday.

Brown Rabbit: Available (All Day) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Available (12 PM to 12 AM) on Sunday.

Peaceful Meadow Habitat Rewards

Upon completing the Habitat display, a red chest will spawn in the middle of the room. Interact with the chest to get a prize bag. Open the prize bag to get the Peaceful Meadow Companion Home (furniture item) as a reward.

Grand Exhibition Peaceful Meadow Room Reward

Upon completing all three displays in the Peaceful Meadow Room, a new Red Chest will spawn in the center of the room. Interact with the chest to get a blue prize bag. Opening the prize bag will give you the Peaceful Meadow Green Ensemble (Clothing Outfit) as a reward.

Something for the Weekend – 11/04/26 | TheSixthAxis

It’s already the weekend again, thanks to the joys of our back-to-back four day weeks, and with a little bit of chill returning and some embargoes looming, I’ll be employing my consoles and PC for a bit of entertaining space heating.

In the News This Week

The Triple-i showcase provided plenty to look forward to for fans of indie gaming, including the announcement of a sequel to one of the biggest indie game hits of the early 2010s.

Games in Review & Featured Articles

A short week and almost all reviews in our features pile.

Homura Hime – PC – 9/10
The Occultist – PS5, XSX|S, PC – 8/10
Life is Strange: Reunion – PS5, XSX|S, PC – 7/10

Beyond the reviews, Aran used The Pale Beyond as a way to look at the philosophies of free will and fate.

Finishing up for the week, What We Played featured People of Note, The Occultist and Starfield.

Trailer Park

Warhammer Survivors is also stomping onto consoles later this year

Call of the Elder Gods launches on May 12th

Your Achievements

Let’s see what you’ve been playing this past week or two.

Andrewww tried to get back into The Outer Wilds, which is tricky given the interconnected riddles between runs through the solar system of puzzles, but he’s really been enjoying it… Except for the angler fish.
TSBonyman ventured into Starfield and has been enjoying the vibe and feel so far, though admittedly hasn’t made much progress as he’s working out the menus and gameplay.

That’s the round up for this week. Hope you have a great weekend ahead and we’ll see you back here on Monday!

Zippy Race as an Amiga 500 port by Modern Vintage Gamer ( WIP ALPHA )

Shock!! This isn’t a JOTD Arcade to Amiga port! As I’ve found out through our Commodore Amiga Facebook group that Modern Vintage Gamer is not only still working on an Arcade to Amiga port of the top down racing game called ‘Zippy Race’, also known as MotoRace USA in the states, but as of today you can play the first alpha released to the public. A game in which the player controls a racer who must travel on a motorcycle from Los Angeles to New York City. To coincide with this news, MVG has provided a short game play video with inclusive screenshots.

Here’s the latest about the game from the website. “This is a conversion of Zippy Race – an early 1983 arcade game by Irem to the OCS Amiga. Please note, that this is a fan conversion – no reverse engineering was performed in any capacity. This is not a transcoded game and as such the entire game was written by hand to match the original arcade game as closely as possible. There will be some differences. I’ve made a public alpha test release available to get feedback. Please let me know what you think!

Features:

– Full Zippy Race game with 500cc, 750cc and 1200cc loops- All stages faithfully recreated- Arcade Music converted to ProTracker format- Optimized for speed, runs at 50/60fps on any Amiga with 1Meg

As this is a fan conversion, it is being given away for free. The entire game was written in C with some assembly
