The Blood of Dawnwalker gets a 20 minute gameplay overview | TheSixthAxis


Back in January, we got a first look at The Blood of Dawnwalker, the brand new RPG from Rebel Wolves which is a studio made up of former CD Projekt RED developers including the game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. He has been joined by other CD Projekt RED alumni, including Chief Publishing Officer Tomasz Tinc, and Narrative Director Jakub Szamałek. Now, a 20 minute gameplay overview video has been released giving a look at different gameplay mechanics.

The gameplay overview starts with Coen heading towards a cathedral in search of a powerful weapon, but on the way he gets into a fight with some bandits. This early encounter shows the combat system that will be in The Blood of Dawnwalker, with players using a sword to fight. With the sword, Coen can attack in different directions to hit enemies and avoid their blocks. When on the defence, you will need to take into account the direction enemies are coming in to attack so you can parry it. In addition, Coen has different abilities to use with this combat encounter introducing Acrid Dust, which stuns enemies, and Burning Blood, a hex that boils an enemy’s blood and burns the skin. Artery Attack is another ability and in this case it decapitated the enemy. Coen then loots the enemies which allows him to find a better weapon. He also eats some food to replenish health. The successful encounter has also levelled Coen up and this provides a skill point that can be spent in one of three skill trees; human, vampire, and shared.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players will need to make decisions that will influence how the world around Coen reacts to him. When approaching the city  where the Cathedral is the guards wave Coen through, but if he had done things that upset the vampire lords or the population the guards could have been much more aggressive and not let him in. Interestingly, one of the main things you will need to do is storm the castle Greisberg where the vampire lord is holed up to overthrow them, and it seems you could attempt this at any point of the game though if it is the first thing you try it will be very challenging. As you wander the streets, there will be scenes playing out that having nothing to do with Coen but they could open up new quests. Rebel Wolves has stated that there are multiple paths to follow in the game which each one impacted by the relationships you have with different characters, and the choices you make when completing quests. You can also choose to abandon quests and choose different paths.

Exploration in The Blood of Dawnwalker will vary based on the time of day. During the day, Coen is a human so can only explore like a human would, and most places are open to him. At night though things change, as when the sun sets Coen is a vampire and has new traversal abilities like jumping across rooftops using Shadowstep. Coen also gets a Focus mode that highlights points of interest and loot. As a vampire, Coen’s health is represented as a thirst level and he needs blood to replenish that health. That means having to feed on humans but if you feed on certain people it could have lasting consequences on the story.  While feeding you can decide how much blood to drain. Taking a bit which render the victim unconscious, but taking it all will kill them. This decision can only be made if Coen hasn’t gone hungry at which point he will just drain victims. You can choose not to use humans as a blood source with animals being an alternative.

Another ability Coen has is Planeshift, and this lets him walk up walls and across ceilings, making those hard to reach places as a human much easier to reach at night. When in vampire form, combat is also different as Coen uses his claws rather than a sword to attack, but it still follows the same directional mechanics. In this scenario he is facing Blood Guards, soldiers that use vampire blood to become stronger. They are dual wielding enemies with strong attacks so you have to be smart fighting them. If you want to you can switch to using your sword instead of claws while in vampire form. The Blood of Dawnwalker is due to be released in 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series XS.

Gearbox has revealed a new story trailer for its looter-shooter Borderlands 4. While it was brief, it did reveal a fresh look at the game’s primary villain, the Timekeeper, his minions, and franchise punching bag Claptrap.

Borderlands 4 launches on September 12 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S–with a Switch 2 version coming at a later date–and the base version of the game is priced at $70. With its launch date drawing closer, Gearbox has been revealing more details on the game, and how it’s building on the Borderlands foundation with a seamless world to explore, dynamic events to take part in, and an overhauled drop-rate for weapons that will make legendary-class feel special again.

Another big change in Borderlands 4 is its tone, as Gearbox wants the humor in the game to be more grounded. Essentially, this sounds like Borderlands 4 won’t be relying on comedy that can become very quickly dated after launch.

“This feels like a Borderlands game through and through where enough has changed for me to feel like this is an improvement over Borderlands 3, but it’s not so different that I can expect huge and sweeping changes,” Jordan Ramée said in GameSpot’s Borderlands 4 preview.

SEGA Sammy made a minor mistake when they published their latest “Management Meeting” document detailing the various financial aspects of the company. Most of it was standard stuff, such as forecasting the next financial year, but on page 25 there was an intriguing screw-up: sales data for 11 of their games.

The data has now been removed from the PDF, replaced by a blank panel that simply says “Some content is currently under adjustment.”

But the Internet is a difficult place to erase information from, so within the first 0.000001 seconds, people had already taken a screenshot and spread it far and wide. And here it is:

Based on this data, it’s very easy to understand why SEGA is still trying to ride the Persona 5 gravy train. 7.2m copies sold across the last five financial years is very impressive. If we include the vanilla Persona 5 (last reported in 2018 as being 3.2m copies) then Persona 5 is over the 10m mark.

Another notable game that has quietly been doing some work is Team Sonic Racing, shifting 3.5m copies. No wonder there’s a sequel scheduled for this year.

I also noticed that Total War: Warhammer 3 were surprisingly low (2.3m), even compared against Total War: 3 Kingdoms. true, 3 Kingdoms had a few extra years, but I thought the Warhammer license would have counted for more. Perhaps 3 games in that sub-series was just too much.

We need a new Ring Fit Adventure on Switch 2


It has been six years since Ring Fit Adventure, the Nintendo Switch fitness game that asked players to defeat monsters (and a sexy dragon) through exercise. The workout game used the Joy-Cons’ accelerometers to measure your movements and translate them into fitness attacks on screen. It’s weird, it’s wacky, but it worked.

I played quite a bit of Ring Fit during the COVID-19 lockdown. What can I say: Nintendo kept me active at a time when I wasn’t doing much else. And it didn’t take long for me to notice that I felt stronger. Exercises like squats or leg lifts, which were incredibly difficult in my first week, got easier.

Even now that the world has opened up again, as a chronic miser, I hesitate to join a gym or a yoga studio. At the end of the day, I can’t help but think: We have Ring Fit at home. (I don’t endorse this mindset, but I do own it.)

But as the years have gone by, a creeping fear has grown in the back of my mind. And now, in the early weeks of the Switch 2’s release, it seems undeniable: They’re not making a Ring Fit 2, are they?

Ring Fit Adventure was a blockbuster game for the Nintendo Switch. During the pandemic, desperate players snatched the game off store shelves or overpaid for it on eBay. In 2022, it was one of Nintendo’s best-selling games.

The same was true of Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii, which reportedly sold out in stores even before it was released. But its follow-up, Wii Fit U, didn’t do so hot — it didn’t crack the top 10 titles for the beleaguered console.

Maybe this is what Nintendo is trying to avoid. But the Switch 2 isn’t comparable to the Wii U when it comes to sales. There are 3.5 million units in the wild right now, but scant few console exclusives. I can’t complain that most Switch games are playable on the Switch 2 (including the original Ring Fit Adventure, more on that later), but it seems reasonable that an audience for a new fitness game exists.

Part of the charm of Nintendo’s fitness games has always been their visual quirks. In some Wii Fit exercises, your bean-shaped Mii is the on-screen avatar, and they do step exercises onstage in front of cheering crowds. The avatars in Ring Fit Adventure are more sophisticated, but the narrative is full of cartoonish characters and scenarios.

The lighthearted aesthetic, and Ring Fit Adventure’s low-commitment model, make working out feel more fun than a chore. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete a level. While you can certainly do more in a session, I can’t tell you how many times I convinced myself to get off the couch and work out because “it’ll only be 10 minutes!”

Nintendo hasn’t completely abandoned fitness games. In December, it released Fitness Boxing 3 for the original Switch. As an exercise game, it’s definitely functional. But its laser-focus on boxing and a more straightforward gym setting doesn’t quite scratch the itch that Ring Fit Adventure did.

Theoretically, you can play Ring Fit Adventure forever. Once the main quest is over, you can essentially do a New Game Plus run by crafting custom workouts. Armen B. at CGI Coffee did an entire year of Ring Fit Adventure, and reported that the hardware holds up, even after hundreds of reps.

It feels wrong to be asking — nay, begging — Nintendo to let me give them more money, when they’ve already released an expensive console and populated it with select $80 exclusives. But even if Ring Fit Adventure is a forever game, surely Nintendo left something on the table?

A second installment of Ring Fit’s narrative could bring lapsed players like me back to the fold — and introduce new ones to the fitness game. Please, my atrophying thigh muscles are begging for it!

Ring Fit 2 would need new hardware

The good news is that Ring Fit Adventure is still compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. But the hardware isn’t. In its compatibility guide, Nintendo notes that the new Joy-Cons won’t fit in the Ring-Con or the leg strap. Players can still use the original Joy-Cons to play, which is great. But given how susceptible they are to drift, it’s not exactly fun to imagine buying a whole new console and still possibly needing to shell out for replacement controllers for the old one if they break, just to play a fitness game.

It would be great to see a new Ring Fit Adventure, built for the Nintendo Switch 2 and its upgraded hardware. I have always appreciated Nintendo’s commitment to fitness, and I hope we won’t have to wait too long to see what it could do with the Nintendo Switch 2.

I know. You’re all like, “What do you mean you didn’t finish this game after writing about it for three weeks in a row in the Weekend Guide?”

Look, I have a busy, complicated life. Also, this game is enormous and, really, am I just gonna walk up to the final boss without being level 99 for every character with as many Pictos and Luminas as I can stock them with?

This weekend, I shall finally finish this game. I mean, at least in theory. I will tell you that Saturday will most likely be spent just grinding combat while listening to Dream Theater. And yes, I love the soundtrack in this game, but I’ve heard all the fight music at this point. Plus, the challenge of nailing the parrying and blocking window while listening to something like “Dance of Eternity” sounds like a good time to me!

The combat in this game, while stressful at the highest difficulty given its reliance on blocking and parrying, is a ton of fun. Every time I feel like I’m getting destroyed, I see a path to relearning the reaction-based mechanics, spec out my characters to become even more devastating, and power further on. The power you can scale to in this game is truly impressive and sometimes more than a little intoxicating, and it’s all based on a comfortable combination of RPG stat-readiness and reaction time. Best of both worlds!

But I do have an epic fantasy story to conclude. If I’m being honest, a soft critique I have thus far of this game is that its lore gets a little too tangled up with itself. Maybe the ending will stitch it together for me, or perhaps I’ll have to suffer reading a synopsis because some of the nuances passed me by. That said, Renoir is waiting for me in Lumiere. I’ll just show up once I’ve knocked out all the trials in the Endless Tower. — Claire Jackson

Required Ingredients to Cook Olympian Tapenade in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Players can make an Olympian Tapenade entrée meal with the following ingredients.

Goofy sells Elysian Grain at his stall in the Mythopia (Storybook Vale) biome for 260 Star Coins. However, you will have to purchase the first upgrade of the stall to be able to purchase Elysian Grain. The upgrade will cost you 6,000 Gold.You can harvest Olives from the Olive Trees in the Mythopia biome. Each harvest will give you 4 olives in total, and it takes 30 minutes for the olives to regrow on the tree.

For the Honeydew Melon, you will have to grow it on your own using the Honeydew Seeds. You can purchase the seeds from Goofy’s Stall in the Mythopia biome for 40 Star Coins. However, you will have to repair the stall. The initial repair will cost 3,000 Star Coins.The Honeydew Seeds will take 45 minutes to grow. Wait until the seeds mature to harvest the Honeydew Melon. Lastly, you can use any spice ingredient to complete the ingredients for Grilled Koi Gyro. Some of the easiest spice ingredients to get early are Basil and Oregano.

How to Cook Olympian Tapenade in Disney Dreamlight Valley

After gathering all the ingredients for the Olympian Tapenade, go to any Cooking Station to start making it. Go to any cooking station in the Valley/Eternity Isle and interact with it. After that, put the ingredients into the Cooking Pot individually and then select the “Start Cooking” option to cook the Olympian Tapenade Entree Meal. It will cost 1 Coal Ore to finish cooking the Olympian Tapenade. Upon making the Olympian Tapenade for the first time, you will learn the recipe. You will be able to autofill the ingredients the next time you make Olympian Tapenade.

Use of Olympian Tapenade

The main use of Olympian Tapenade meal is that it is necessary for completing the “Your Own Personal Hades” quest. Other than that, players can choose to eat the Olympian Tapenade to restore 1,090 Energy. Moreover, they can gift it to another villager to increase their Friendship Level. Lastly, they can sell it to Goofy for 456 Star Coins.

The big Honkai: Star Rail version 3.4 livestream took place earlier today, right on schedule. As with every major new iteration of the incredibly popular HoYoverse game, the main thing people have been looking forward to has been, of course, the new characters. The livestream did, indeed, show off the new characters that will be arriving in the free-to-play RPG soon.

The big news from the program is, of course, the imminent arrival of the Fate/stay night collab event. A collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail and genre-defining fantasy visual novel Fate/stay night was first announced in August of last year, at the same time as the latter received its long-overdue official English localisation and modern remaster. It was apparent at the time that the Star Rail crossover was going to be in the oven for a while longer; and indeed, 10 months down the line, the wait is almost over.

New characters introduced in Version 3.4 will include Fate series favourites Saber (as a 5-Star Wind/Destruction character who’ll be receiving her own banner in the gacha) and Archer (a 5-Star Quantum/Hunt character who will be claimable for free by everyone who logs into HSR during the collaboration). Both are expected to be available for longer than is usual in HSR, with the collab confirmed as lasting from Version 3.4 right through to the end of Version 3.6 (expected circa November of this year).

Additionally, Phainon — who’s been a major NPC since Version 3.0 launched early this year and was the first new character you met on Amphoreus — will finally be added as a playable unit, an honour already granted to several of his fellow Chrysos Heirs over the past few months. He’ll also be a 5-Star character, armed with a Physical/Destruction kit. Since the Fate collab characters exist outside of the usual banner cycle, all three new characters will be releasing in Phase 1.

Not only that, but the version will feature a grand total of six rerun banners, with Tribbie, Sunday, and Sparkle making a limited-time return to the gacha in Phase 1, while Firefly, Jingliu, and Blade all return during Phase 2. That means the latter half of this update will be a rare occasion when HSR receives no new characters, but considering how packed that line-up already is, I don’t think it’s exactly fair to complain.

And last but not least, everyone’s favourite Stellaron Hunters are getting some love in V3.4, with enhancements coming to the battle mechanics and Eidolon effects for Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Blade, as well as a new alternative outfit for Firefly. Jingliu will also be getting a kit enhancement of her own, which hopefully doesn’t mean this troubled Luofu loyalist is joining Elio’s morally-gray team of mercenaries now… although actually that could be rather cool.

Honkai: Star Rail 3.4 is scheduled to go live on July 2nd, with its changeover to the second banner phase expected on July 23rd. You can watch the whole special program livestream on the VOD below:

Back in May, Honkai: Star Rail’s version 3.3 update introduced Hyacine to the game, and brought back The Herta for the first time as part of its first phase. The banner’s second phase, on the other hand, kicked off just last week and brought new character – Cipher – to the game, alongside a few returning favourites.

It also featured the controversial recasting of the English-language voice actors for the playable protagonists, the female and male Trailblazers (canonically named Stelle and Caelus). This followed the actors’ participation in solidarity action with SAG-AFTRA, who recently suspended their long-running video game voice actor strike after the arrangement of a tentative agreement with several major studios. The status of several other characters whose actors have been participating in the action — which includes two other main characters, Dan Heng and Himeko — remain unclear.

The Marvel Rivals player community is excited following the Season 2.5 release, which has brought in new leaks and speculation regarding Season 3. NetEase Games’ hero shooter continues to hook players with its rich maps, and the most recent update teases one of the most awaited unannounced heroes. Season 3 is rumored to bring heroes like Phoenix and Captain Marvel alongside two new Klyntar maps.

Furthermore, the most recent Rivals update brought several hero balancing changes, including nerfing the overpowered Jeff-Nado team-up and a new Venom’s Bubble Pop event where players can claim a free skin. In the same June 19 update, players noticed a certain easter egg that leads to speculation regarding next season’s hero. Included in the users who spotted the change was a NetEase dev, as they acknowledged it and led fans to believe that it’s a potential teaser for a new Season 3 hero.

Blade has been a recurring Easter egg since Marvel Rivals Season 1, when he first appeared imprisoned by Dracula on the Central Park map, raising questions about his intentions. In Season 2, players find him asleep in a room near Team B’s spawn location on the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda map, implying a larger plot arc. The June 19 update introduced a game changer: Blade is no longer sleeping, as keen fans immediately discovered.

Now, Marvel Rivals executive producer Danny Koo has reposted an original post from the Rivals X account, which showed a puzzled Jeff the Land Shark standing on top of the bed where Blade was last seen. NetEase’s confused reaction and acknowledgement of Blade marked the first time players saw them post about an easter egg online.

This caused many to speculate that it is a teaser for Blade’s debut as the first hero in Season 3, something many had been anticipating for months. According to leaked abilities, Blade will be featured as a Duelist, using his legendary Daywalker Sword and guns to defeat adversaries on the battlefield.

Net.Attack() takes the basic idea of the action from Vampire Survivors and other survivor-likes but, it gets you to program your abilities with code blocks. Disclosure: a key was provided to GamingOnLinux.

I already tested out the demo previously but now it’s available in Early Access and I’ve played a lot more.

It’s not just the block coding and stitching them together to create attacks that makes it unique, it’s also the level setup too. You have a small arena to run around in, where you need to hack into little CPUs to grab some money. After you’ve done them all, you can then proceed deeper and it will get progressively more difficult. This loop is very satisfying.

The result is something very unique, managing to carve out a place in a very crowded genre with more games releasing in it all the time. You don’t need to be any sort of coding wizard to appreciate it either, it’s all very clean and accessible with you dropping blocks around and then just hooking them up and each is explained clearly. What you can make with it is at times quite funny, because you can cause all sorts of crazy attack loops to just annihilate everything in your path.

More so than any other roguelike survivor-like, it truly rewards your constant experimentation thanks to the block node coding system. The way you can chain attacks together is something really special. It’s not just that attacks will come from you, but your nodes can also have enemies hit by particular attacks activate other attacks, so you end up causing big chain-reactions. It really begins to feel more like an automation sim when you get further in, as you constantly move around these nodes to optimize your attacks. Absolutely brilliant fusion of ideas.

Thanks to that system, I don’t think I could ever see myself getting bored of this — ever. There’s a decent amount of different types of attacks already, and when you get other characters that tweak all the behaviours it only gets more depth.

But you have to also add to that the traditional level-up system from collecting XP orbs here too, which allow you to buff up various character statistics too. So you will be not only crafting your attack patterns, but also upgrading your overall build as you go too. Completing a level will also then allow you to pick a Premium Node, to add special extras into your little programming area.

Net.Attack() really can get challenging too, especially if you’re trying to grab every single CPU node for money on each level, as you only have a limited amount of time before a firewall activates and brings in a Battle Royale styled bubble to reduce the safe area.

One mark against it right now is that it has no gamepad support, which I find pretty odd. This type of game fits perfectly with a gamepad and I’m really surprised it released without that ready. It would be another match made in heaven for the Steam Deck and anyone who prefers a gamepad but until that’s in you may want to wait.

Aside from the above, playing it on Desktop Linux (Kubuntu) with mouse / keyboard has been truly fantastic. There’s nothing quite like it.

Really love the idea and I’m thoroughly excited to see what content is added in during Early Access. I want to program the most ridiculous attacks that I can. Plays perfectly with the latest Proton 9.0-4. Early Access is currently planned to last 6 months to add in more characters, more code block nodes for attacks, more challenges and so on.

A must-buy for survivor-like fans, and for anyone who likes top-down action with repeatable runs that allows you to craft your attack patterns into something crazy.
