Leaked Fallout Merch Appears To Use AI-Generated Slop

Leaked Fallout Merch Appears To Use AI-Generated Slop

Earlier this week, someone leaked what they claim to be new Fallout-themed merchandise that will reportedly soon be available on Target shelves around the United States. But fans think that at least one piece of leaked merch is using AI-generated imagery, aka slop.

On September 2, a user on the Fallout subreddit posted a short video of them seemingly pulling out pieces of not-yet-announced Fallout-themed merchandise in a warehouse-like setting. The user claimed that the Fallout goodies would be sold at Target starting in November or December. The original video has since been deleted, possibly because the original poster was nervous about getting in trouble with Target. But Kotaku viewed the video before it was deleted, and the merch seemed real. And one item, Fallout-themed hot sauce, appears to be shipping to stores in a box that has AI-generated imagery on the back.

As spotted by PCGamesn, users in the comments below the leaked Target video began focusing on peculiarities in the hot sauce artwork. In the image, a couple is seen sitting at a table eating a Deathclaw’s hand. But the man can be seen using his knife and fork to cut up a napkin. The fork looks oddly shaped, too. Others pointed out that the Deathclaw hand seems to be floating oddly above the plate. The man’s right hand also seems off. All of this would lead one to believe this new Fallout merch is using AI-generated artwork.

Kotaku contacted Bethesda about the leaked art, but didn’t receive a response before publication. It should be noted that Bethesda likely contracted this artwork out via another company and didn’t create the image.

The use of AI-generated slop has become more and more prevalent in marketing and advertising over the last two years as companies desperate to make the line go up cut corners to prove to investors they aren’t being left behind as AI-powered tech continues to grow. In fact, this isn’t even the first time an official Fallout-related artwork has been scrutinized by fans for some strange, AI-like oddities. Will a man using a terrible fork to cut up a napkin stop collectors and fans from buying this piece of Fallout merch? Probably not, which is what companies are counting on.

Mechatris Switch Review

Mechatris Switch Review

I am no stranger to -Tris games. Last month, I reviewed Arcanatris, a decent little Tetris clone with virtually no publicity. This month, here comes Mechatris, a neat little twist on Tetris. You see, instead of manipulating the blocks, you are piloting a mech. You much form lines by punching blocks into place, literally. You can punch either the entire block(via strong punch), or individual blocks that make up the larger blocks. Note you cannot punch them if there is no place to go. There is also a bomb, which destroys little blocks for five points each. You can also bomb jump, launching yourself high into the air, very helpful in certain situations. There is also a standard jump as well. Your goal in Mechatris is to rack up points, destroy blocks and survive as long as possible.

Five lives is all you get, or game over.

Mechatris’ issue is that isn’t much here. You have the standard mode, and fifteen achievements. The achievements are all related to time, score or blocks destroyed. Other than that, that’s it. There is nothing else. While the introductory sale of $2.99 is a good price, once it invariably goes up to $9.99, there’s no point in getting this. Obviously Game Nacional(of Rafa’s World infamy) is doing a tried and true method of selling, but I think they should have just stuck with the $2.99 price period. Get it while the game is on sale only. Therefore, this gets a Recommended* with a seven score.

Overall; Mechatris is a fine little game, the issue is once the introductory sale is over, it is way overpriced and not worth getting

Verdict: Recommend*(Get in on sale).

Score: 7.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless Headset Review | TheXboxHub

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless Headset Review | TheXboxHub

A Mid-Range Marvel?

It’s okay to have a favourite. A football team you spend hours – and money – following around the globe. A restaurant that serves up the finest of foods. A friend who has been by your side for decades. A favourite son or daughter. Okay, perhaps not.

It’s also okay to have a favourite gaming system. A place you prefer to kickback with in the evening, whether that be due to game exclusives, controller feels or a long standing loyalty. Yes, those stupid format wars are something that could easily be cooled, but there’s no harm in having a favourite.

Same too goes for the gaming headset you plonk on your head. You may have one that has covered your gaming needs for years gone by, slowly falling to pieces, as you find yourself unable to place it to the side in favour of a newbie, comfort being an optimum aspect.

SteelSeries Nova 3X Review Headset and box
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless – a mid range marvel

For us, SteelSeries are a favourite. It’s a brand that we’ve enjoyed using for years, going through the likes of the Nova Pro and Arctis Nova 7X Wireless, before recently settling on the SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds for – pretty much all of – our audio needs.

In fact, aside from the odd review unit that has taken our fancy for a few weeks at a time – stuff from Turtle Beach, a lightweight RIG, a gorgeously shiny Audeze, or the EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 602 in blue and orange (seriously, that headset is a proper looker) – it’s been SteelSeries with which we continually gravitate back to.

It’s with much enthusiasm then that we get to the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless. These may not be range toppers. They may be bereft of the fanciest features, But they are pretty damn neat. Especially for a mid range set of cans.

Lightweight, Comfortable, and Unmistakably SteelSeries

As the name suggests, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless comes in at the lower end of SteelSeries’ range, sitting above the 1 range, but below those of the 5 and 7 segments that are capable of wowing gamers. But with such a name behind them, there should be no reason to not consider them as your next set of cans. In fact, we’ve been particularly taken in by the cool Aqua version that we’ve been hands-on with in recent times.

Also available in White, Black and Lavender, the Nova 3X Wireless is a really good looking headset. It’s unmistakably SteelSeries, and so if you’re familiar with anything they’ve provided over the years, you’ll be well at home here. It comes with an adjustable suspension styled headband to take the pressure off the top of your head, with a sliding band ensuring that fitment is a cinch. With oval cups that twist and flex plenty enough, we’re pretty sure this is a headset that will be capable of fitting all manner of head size. And when you take it off, it’s comfortable to hang around your neck too, cups placed nicely on your upper chest.

Aside from the colour, it’s pretty stealthy too, with small SteelSeries logos on the outer cups pretty much all there is to signify what this headset is. But we’re up for that and even though it’s fairly plasticy in feel, it’s light enough to fling around at will. Just remember though, this is – in the grand scheme of things – a well priced headset, running at just a smidge under £100. Consider the brand, the wireless capabilities and more, and that feels good value for money.

Wireless Freedom with a Few Caveats

So what of the headset itself? Controls-wise and everything sits on the left-hand cup, something you would probably expect to hear. That means you’ll have full access to a power button (obvs), volume dial (lovingly notched too which is hugely appreciated!), and a mic mute switch. Further, out of the box is access to a USB-C power port and microphone port for those all important team comms.

The mic is detachable, and so whether you’re a fan of that or not will dictate your love there. For us, it’s neither here nor there really, but if we had to make a call, we would prefer a fully attached mic with flip-to-mute system, if only so that mic doesn’t get ‘lost’.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless MicSteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless Mic
You may, or may not, like a detachable mic

But the mic itself is glorious. You’d expect crystal clear comms from any SteelSeries headset, and the Nova 3X Wireless doesn’t disappoint in that regard; we’ve had zero issues in utilising this for team and party chats. It attaches nice and easily too, extremely flexible to ensure you can have the wind muff sitting pretty much right in front of your mouth without fuss. Weirdly, we’ve found that muff to be quite slippery on the mic boom itself, and have pulled it off, unintentionally, more than a few times. Annoying? Ever so slightly, but no biggy.

Something else which, to us, is a slight pain, is that the Nova 3X Wireless only works, as the name suggests, wirelessly. It’s weird that there is no 3.5mm audio jack present for wired capabilities, if only as past history and use of MANY headsets has seen us occasionally drop back to the old-school wired approach. It does mean that whilst the Nova 3X is capable of holding power for up to 40 hours, big in itself, you’ll want to ensure it is kept charged at all times. If the worst does come to the worst, then grab yourself a coffee and plug it in for a quick 15 minute hit through USB-C; that should keep you going for another 9 hours or so. That’s pretty impressive in itself, but just note, there is no wired functionality kicking around here.

What is in place are two wireless options – 2.4G wireless through an included USB-C dongle (with USB-A converter) attached to your Xbox Series X or Series S, for example, or Bluetooth for everything else. That means you can use the Nova 3X Wireless for good old fashioned console play, or for some Game Pass stuff and calls through your mobile device or laptop. Needless to say, we’ve done both and have been extremely impressed no matter what option and device we’ve used. A quick press of the power button happily switches between connections, with super simple initial setups accompanied by equally solid connectivity from there on out. Again, it’s something you’d expect from SteelSeries.

Soundscapes of SteelSeries Quality

The sound that it produces is, again, of SteelSeries quality. There’s a reason that they are one of our favourite headset creators, frankly because tunes and gaming sounds are piled towards ears in the very best possible way. Stick a SteelSeries headset on your head and power things up and you’ll be treated to some stunning soundscapes; clear at all levels, loud enough to whisk you away to another world. The Nova 3X Wireless doesn’t disappoint in that regard, and there have been times in which we’ve been utterly wowed, mouth-dropped, at the audio that has come out of this thing, able to pinpoint the likes of engine noise in The Crew Motorfest with ease.

And that’s even without us being the biggest fan of the ‘Flat’ EQ that is present out of the box. With the SteelSeries Arctis app on your phone though, you’ve got access to hundreds of presents that should enable you to set things up as you see fit. If anything, it’s super fun to just run through those for a few minutes. With that App, you can make the audio as punchy or bass-filled as you so wish.

Undeniably SteelSeries

A Mid-Range Headset That Absolutely Delivers

So yep, SteelSeries have done it again. The Nova 3X Wireless Headset may not be near the top of their range, and it may be lacking in a few areas – a plastic feel, a lack of wired running, a detachable mic, and delete any of those as appropriate to your needs and wants – but this is a super comfortable, pretty lightweight headset that is a joy to place on the head. It sounds immense, is useful for multiple wireless opportunities and looks great in its cool aqua hues.

With an asking price that is less than a ton, get the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless headset for Xbox on your shopping list.

It’s okay to have a favourite, you know.

Huge thanks go out to SteelSeries for providing us with the Arctis Nova 3X Wireless for testing and review. Pop over to visit them direct and grab a unit for yourself. The only thing you’ll need to decide on is the colour.

Helldivers 2 CEO admits split-screen co-op is “technically feasible,” but is unsure fans really want it

A lot is coming to Helldivers 2. The Into the Unjust update has arrived, and the patch notes include an onslaught of horrifying new enemies as well as deadly missions, powerful buffs, and a whole lot more. All of this is just a couple of days before the new Dust Devils Warbond and its accompanying extra armour and weapons. While all of this is great, Arrowhead are by no means resting on their laurels as they have a lot more content cooking behind-the-scenes. One possible feature Arrowhead is investigating is split-screen co-op, however, the studio’s CEO isn’t convinced Helldivers 2 fans really want it.

Helldivers 2 split-screen co-op is “technically feasible,” but CEO is unsure fans really want it

On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, was asked, if HD2 will ever get split-screen, with the user reckoning that it “would probably be too taxing on Xbox and PlayStation but PC could be epic”.

In response, Jorjani stated that split-screen is “technically feasible,” and it is a feature on the studio’s list to “investigate”. However, while possible and something the developers may investigate, the CEO also said, “I have no idea if it’s a feature ppl really want”.

It would be cool if we could get split-screen added to HD2 as it would another element to co-op gameplay. However, right now fans are more concerned with Arrowhead delivering better optimization, especially for PC where the game is 100GB bigger, and there are arguably features players want more such as cross-progression.

Infinity Nikki’s latest update lets you build your dream home, and pal up with a Stardew Valley Junimo

Infinity Nikki’s latest update lets you build your dream home, and pal up with a Stardew Valley Junimo

Infinity Nikki has kicked off a surprising new cross-over with its latest update. The new patch, version 1.9, is live now, and heralds the start of a new season alongside the aforementioned collaboration.

You may have assumed that there’s already a lot of cross-over between Infinity Nikki players and Stardew Valley players. Infold Games clearly agrees, because the developer is teaming up with the farming simulator for this next event.

Manage cookie settings

Patch 1.9 arrived in the game following the usual maintenance. Some parts of the update were available to download ahead of time through the game’s launcher. 1.9 is a fairly substantial patch for Infinity Nikki, not least because of the season it comes with.

Music Season is where the Stardew Valley collaboration lives. The new season is available until September 22, and as the name suggests, there’s music and rhythm games-inspired content here.

A Junimo from the world of Stardew Valley has arrived in Miraland, befriending Nikki. The two will take part in an adventure. Complete it and you’ll earn exclusive collaboration furniture for your home, and an outfit for Nikki.

Watch on YouTube

The story of the update itself doesn’t actually revolve around Stardew Valley. Instead, it’s about Nikki coming across a brooch that belongs to the Evermelody Troupe, which sets her off on a quest to investigate. You’ll visit the Box Theater (haunted by a new enemy) as part of this, and even witness a live rehearsal.

Supporting all that are the new rhythm game mechanics, which include dancing with town NPCs. The update also adds the ability to transform into small animals to uncover clues around Miraland.

The big new gameplay feature in 1.9 is the ability to build a home in Miraland. You can create your own living space, with the help of Yardlings. This is available as part of the Set Off for a Warm Place quest, which will teach you the basics. You can save your home designs, and even share them with others using a unique code.

Before jumping in, make sure you check our updated list of Infinity Nikki codes for September.

10 Most Difficult Skill Checks in Relatively Easy Games

0
10 Most Difficult Skill Checks in Relatively Easy Games

There are gamers out there who crave challenge when they take on a new gaming venture, which is the main reason why Souls games have had such success in recent years. But there are people on the other side of the equation who just don’t need that level of stress.

These players want games that provide a moderate level of challenge, require a certain level of mastery, but overall, aren’t overly taxing. These games are geared toward the casual player who prioritizes fun above all else and avoids grueling, punishing mechanics that would have them chucking controllers at walls.

However, on occasion, a low-key, generally easy game will have one standout moment that forces the player to sit up in their seat and work harder than they had originally planned.

Why they are quite as tough as they are, we will never know, but regardless, here are some crazy skill checks in games that really don’t warrant them at all.

10

Treasure In The Depths

Sly Cooper & The Thievius Raccoonus

To work your way through the breakout game in the Sly Cooper trilogy, you need to collect keys to open up the boss areas that serve as the finale for each hub area you inhabit in the game.

A lot of the time, you will collect these for completing traditional levels filled with platforming, sneaking, and swiping enemies with your cane. But, occasionally, you’ll need to partake in a mini-game like this one. However, none are anywhere near as taxing as this.

The goal here is to smash forty treasure chests in a short time frame, while also avoiding a slew of crab enemies that actively work against you by pulling the treasure chests off the map, and if even one succeeds, you’ll need to start again.

It was a close call between this one and a similar chicken-based mini-game later in this mascot platforming epic, but for me, this one takes the cake.

9

Croustalion

Sea of Stars

Croustalion Sea of Stars

One of the reasons why I have such a soft spot for Sea of Stars is that it aims to be a super accessible JRPG with boiled-down and basic systems, manageable boss fights, and Crono Trigger levels of difficulty. However, there is one exception to this approach, and that’s Croustalion.

This boss is encountered in the Coliseum challenge when the player returns to Brisk with a new band of party members, and packs more of a punch than any other boss within the game.

He hits hard, has a number of gimmicks that allow him to spawn minions that can heal and attack if left on the field, and has rather intricate locks that can spell certain death if not dealt with fast. As Thunder, Bubble Drop, and Kondo Throwdown all deal huge damage.

Even your second, true encounter with Aephorul isn’t quite as hard as this fight, which goes to show just how much of a skill check Croustalion is.

8

Lady Comstock’s Grave

Bioshock Infinite

Lady Comstock Bioshock Infinite

BioShock Infinite is certainly a more traditional FPS than its predecessors, and leans into action to great effect. However, even with this in mind, it would be a stretch to call this game overtly hard outside of the game’s 1999 Mode.

But, if you just jumped into the game to play the section that takes place at Lady Comstock’s grave alone, you could easily be fooled, as this section is significantly harder than anything else this game has to throw at you.

The reason for this elevated difficulty is Lady Comstock’s ability to regenerate ghost enemies, elongating the fight, chipping away at your health and resources, and ensuring you never have a clear shot at her for long.

This can be sidestepped with some clever use of vigors like Charge, Return to Sender, or Devil’s Kiss. But, even with that knowledge, it still takes a lot of skill and precision to pull off, and careful management of resources. Just shoot for the head, keep those ghosts in check, and you just might make it out alive.

7

Grand Master Challenge

Astro Bot

Astro Bot Grand Master Challenge

It may be the final thing you do in Astro Bot, and a portion of the game some players may opt to miss, but it still bears mentioning, as this level is a true test of your platforming prowess.

As players near the end of this mascot platforming masterclass, you’ll gain the option to partake in the final level of Astro Bot, which only unlocks when you have found all 300 Bots and all 120 Puzzle Pieces.

You would think, based on the happy-go-lucky nature of the game to this point, that this would be a victory lap and nothing more, but instead, it happens to be one of the most demanding platforming segments you can imagine.

It requires an acute understanding of the level’s layout, well-timed leaps and glides, and perpetual motion, as slowing down almost always leads to you entering back at the start again.

In short, if you manage to beat this level, then you can consider yourself an Astro Bot master, but it’s a lot easier said than done.

6

Maleficent Dragon Boss Fight

Kingdom Hearts

KH1 Hollow Bastion Dragon Boss

While a lot of the optional content in the original Kingdom Hearts ranks high as some of the hardest content the series has to offer, if you stick to the main story content, there is very little that will ruffle Sora’s feathers. Especially if you take the time to grind some levels and synthesize some top-tier items.

However, there is one fight among all the mandatory bosses that will give you more trouble than most, mainly because it’s a two-phase boss akin to Dark Souls that makes you think it’s all over before heaping on some more punishment.

The first phase isn’t too tough, but her floating platform makes her a nightmare to actually hit, but it’s light work compared to her Dragon Form, which hits hard, covers a lot of area with its attacks, and she has a mountain of health, which leaves little room for mistakes.

Spamming Stop and using Tinkerbell can be a huge help in this fight. But even with that in mind, it’s a seriously tough fight, especially considering it’s essential for progression.

5

The Time Trail

Viewfinder

Viewfinder Time Trial Chapter 5 4.1

I know I’m in the minority when I say this, but I was one of the few who felt Viewfinder wasn’t quite as phenomenal as others seemed to believe this indie puzzler was. The concept was genuinely astonishing, but the execution left a lot to be desired for me, as the puzzles, minus a few, were all pretty lackluster.

However, the game really came into its own right at the end when the game slapped a timer on screen and asked you to complete a series of intricate puzzles back to back before the clock hit zero.

It added stakes to proceedings, created a sense of urgency, and effectively made the closing stages of the game into one big puzzle-fuelled Speedrun.

A speed run that isn’t exactly a walk in the park and requires an acute understanding of the game’s perception-based mechanics. Which is a real change of pace, but one I personally really appreciated, even if it was a little out of left field.

4

The Destroyer

Borderlands

Borderlands The Destroyer

This one might be a little controversial, as it really depends on what you deem difficult when it comes to boss fights. You see, in actuality, The Destroyer in Borderlands is probably one of the most lukewarm and easy bosses to deal with in the entire game, with a simple moveset and a lack of gimmicks. But the issue is that the thing has a gargantuan health bar.

This means that even if you go in there with a monumental stockpile of weapons, ammo, explosives, and more, you might come up short, especially if you are playing solo. Which can lead to a long war of attrition hiding behind cover and waiting for cooldowns to expire.

Essentially, The Destroyer in solo is a test of your build, and only something with a very high damage output will see you through to the end. But, even then, you still need to dodge tentacles, make the most of tiny critical zones, and move around constantly to avoid being sent back to a New-U Station.

3

Demolition Man

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Demolition Man GTA

The GTA series has always been one where the missions are On-Rails more or less, and the set pieces and storylines are given the breathing space they deserve to do the heavy lifting. However, on occasion, there will be a mission that requires a little bit more finesse from the player than simply driving to a place, shooting a few dudes, and then getting out of dodge.

One fine example of this is Demolition Man, a mission where you need to operate an RC helicopter and use this to navigate a building site and plant bombs in three separate locations while keeping the thing from free-falling and exploding into one million pieces.

It’s a tricky mission not only because the helicopter handles terribly, but also because the ‘builders’ on the site are prime marksmen and can shoot you out of the sky with ease. Then add in the additional jeopardy of needing to do this all within a tight seven-minute window, and you have a recipe for one of the most troublesome, notorious, and infuriating missions across all the GTA games.

2

Hand Over Fish

Jak And Daxter: The Precursor’s Legacy

Jak and Daxter Fish Game

Much like the original Sky Cooper outing we mentioned earlier, this fellow PS2 mascot platformer offers typically easy gameplay with a handful of standout difficult mini-games to infuriate those in search of Power Cells.

But, of all those, none is as irritating as the fishing mini-game. This one has you sitting with a net downstream, and your goal is to catch 200 pounds of fish, which sounds easy, but the difficulty comes from the fact that you can’t miss 20 of the buggers, nor can you catch a poisonous fish, as that will spoil the whole batch.

It requires fast reactions, a keen eye, and a little bit of luck, but if you can manage to catch 200 pounds worth of seafood, you’ll get a classic laugh from the voice of Batman once upon a time, Kevin Conroy, and that should be motivation enough.

1

Lawrence Barrett Boss Fight

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex Barrett Fight

If you love stealth games, then you’re probably well-versed in all things Deus Ex, as this series is an immersive sim that truly allows you to play your way, with stealth being a very viable option. Which is why your first boss fight in Human Revolution may knock you for six.

You see, the middle child of the series is a game that really pushes a lot of stealth-based augments on the player, with the loud and boisterous approach actively being discouraged by the game.

However, this comes back to bite the player when they come up against Barrett. You see, they have crazy firepower, are relentless on the offensive, have you trapped in a small arena where there’s hardly anywhere to hide, and you’re stuck in there with non-lethal options that will do you no good, and likely no ammo because the boss fight starts so suddenly.

This then turns this fight into a war of attrition where you need to use the environment to your advantage and hope that it’s enough to put this bullet sponge in the ground. But fair warning, expect to die, a lot.
