Every year, Activision puts out a new Call of Duty. And every year, shortly after that Call of Duty comes out, Activision shares some sort of celebratory announcement about how much money it made or how many people played. This year, a week has come and gone since the launch of Black Ops 7 without a peep from Activision about how it’s actually performed. This comes amid stiff competition from Battlefield 6 and a Metacritic score of just 69.
Does this mean Activision isn’t all that happy with Black Ops 7’s sales performance? Is the annualized blockbuster starting to slip after years of potential fan burnout?
As pointed out by Twitter user NerosCinema, a post celebrating 2022’s Modern Warfare II hailed it as “the number one Call of Duty launch of all time,” while 2023’s post said Modern Warfare III had the highest engagement in the new Modern Warfare trilogy.” Last year’s Black Ops 6 launch earned a celebratory post calling it the “biggest Call of Duty 2-day opening ever.” The November 17 Black Ops 7 post offers no such accolades, just that the team has seen “a great response” across “opening weekend.”
That’s a far cry from how Activision spun Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War‘s popularity back in 2020, just two days after it came out: “Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history.”
Thank you to our community and developers. This is just the start #BlackOps7 🔥 pic.twitter.com/dWDt6Jvpx0
— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) November 17, 2025
Asked for comment, Activision referred Kotaku back to its initial November 17 post.
Maybe it’s too soon for Activision to start celebrating—or maybe the tide has turned on the franchise, which was recently called out (again) for using generative AI for in-game art.The Game Business reported on November 21 that Black Ops 7’s weekend launch sales were 63 percent lower than Battlefield 6’s in Europe, and were down by more than 50 percent when compared to last year’s Black Ops 6.
Black Ops 7 certainly tries to deviate from last year’s installment, though the two games were developed in tandem. It’s technically a sequel to 2012’s Black Ops 2, and stars some Hollywood folks like Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), but its campaign takes so many big, absurd swings that it’s mostly leaving players bewildered.
Then there’s the fact that it’s up against Battlefield 6 this year, which was the best-selling game in October in the United States, and produced the “highest single month US physical and digital full game tracked dollar sales total in three years,” according to Circana’s director of game research, Mat Piscatella. The last game to sell that well? Modern Warfare II.
If Black Ops 7 isn’t the runaway hit Activision hoped it would be, maybe that means we can get a break from the Call of Duty Annual Release Hamster Wheel. Maybe the developers at Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Raven can take their time making something truly unique and special that redefines the series and defies expectations. Maybe they can fix the damn launcher and make it easier to download a game without two dozen extra packs.
Or maybe they just announce Call of Duty: Black Ops: Remastered: Revamped next year and everyone loses their minds. Can I even judge? I’m playing Black Ops 7 multiplayer right now…
While new game announcements have been in short supply these last couple of days from myself (blame ill health), I wanted to at least mention this new single screen arcade game for the C64 by Commodore Spain called ‘Lunadia’. A game whereby you must avoid falling asteroids while trying to recover broken pieces of the lunar research before time runs out. If that sounds like your sort of game that was created with Garry Kitchen’s GameMaker (published by Activision in 1985), then make sure to check it out below the latest footage.
Here’s the latest from the website. “You are a lunar researcher. You now find yourself on a planet whose moon, called “Lunadia,” has collided with an asteroid and collapsed. There is little time left to escape the disaster, but even less time to recover your research.”
OBJECTIVE:
– You must recover the broken pieces of lunar research before time runs out.- You have 65 parsaits (a unit of lunar time equivalent to 1 Earth second) to recover them in each wave.- You have 6 lives to recover the research pieces.- Warning: With each wave (phase), the broken pieces of Lunadia arrive more quickly. Be careful!

Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game that is enjoyed by millions of players on a daily basis. While the game costs nothing to play, its cosmetic items are not exactly cheap. Some of the most expensive skins in the game cost more than $20, but that might change very soon. According to a recent leak, NetEase is developing a feature that would offer personalized discounts for players.
RivalsInfo, a reputable leaker, claims that the Marvel Rivals developer is working on a black market feature. This feature, when released, could make cosmetics cheaper by offering personalized discounts in the shop. However, the release date of it is currently unknown.
Black market could come to Marvel Rivals soon
The next major update will bring Season 5.5 in Marvel Rivals and is scheduled to come out in mid-December. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, there is a decent chance that NetEase could release the black market feature with it.
For now, the details about this feature are scarce. However, it will likely be similar to Maximilien’s Vault in Overwatch 2. This feature created personalized offers for every player, giving them skin discounts up to 60%.
The upcoming Marvel Rivals feature could make skins much cheaper. Image by VideoGamer
Maximilien’s Vault offers players personalized discounts according to their most-played heroes. The feature would probably work the same way in Marvel Rivals, which would allow players to purchase skins for their favorite heroes without paying the full price.
Right now, the hero shooter has no discounts. However, NetEase releases numerous skins for free every season, giving everyone a chance to obtain costumes without spending a cent. Still, the upcoming feature would make the game much better and would almost certainly increase sales. Season 5.5 is set to come out on December 12, and we hope that NetEase will bring the black market with it.
In the meantime, NetEase is preparing a big anniversary event which will bring 2500 free Units and a Legendary skin for everyone!

Ubisoft has finally released its latest financial report, following a short delay to an accounting muck-up. In it, we found out that the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is launching before the end of March, 2026. But according to the report and some new information, the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag might be joining it.
The financial report from Ubisoft lists several titles will be released before the end of the company’s Q4 period, which is March 31st. One of them is an “unannounced” title.
Maybe Black Flag is a modern re-telling of Moby-Dick?
Well, according to InsiderGaming, that unannounced project is the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake. More importantly, though, InsiderGaming says that they understand the game “is scheduled to release the week of March 23rd.”
At this point, the Black Flag remake has become an open secret within the industry, so it really has just become a cause of when and not if. At first, it seemed like the project would be a fairly straightforward remaster of one of Assassin’s Creed most beloved entries, but recent leaks have suggested it’s a much more involved remake.
Back in September, for example, a website claimed to have got sent details of what to expect in the remake, and also stated they were hearing about a March 2026 release. According to the information, the remake will be running on the same engine as Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, will have the modern-day sections taken out and will even add in RPG elements to make it more like the modern Assassin’s Creed games.
I love Black Flag, so some of these changes are baffling. Making it more like the modern games in the series is the last thing I could possibly want from the remake, so my hype for the remake has been tempered. Still, I am interested to see what it ends up being.
The latest HoYoverse Special Program has brought us big Genshin Impact news. Version Luna 3 has been fully revealed, continuing the Nod-Krai story. The new chapter arrives December 3 across all platforms.
The Moon-Prayer Night is the big in-world festival, marking Dameselette’s final night before she sets off for the moon. The new update, of course, introduces new playable characters, one with an interesting mechanic.

The events of this new chapter take place following Rarcher of Solnari’s defeat. The victory has given way to the Moon-Prayer Night celebrations, which brings various stalls to the Nasha Town, alongside a new souvenir stamp book where you can record your memories.
All is not fine, however, as Alice and Nicole Reeyn come bearing some bad news about phantoms appearing across the Nod-Krai region at Teyvat’s borders. There’s a mystery to be uncovered here, and your journey to do so won’t be a lonely one.
The highly-anticipated Durin is at last the new playable character. A 5-Star Pyro Sword wielder, Durin can switch between two different forms: one lets him deal damage, while the other is best suited to supporting the team.

Durin was once a dragon, you see, who was later given a human body. This is why he’s able to switch forms. The more powerful, Abyssal-infused form can launch major attacks on single targets to boost his own Vaporize and Melt damage, while his support form reduces enemies’ Elemental Resistance and deals AoE Pyro damage.
Durin’s Story Quest will shed more light on that aspect of his life, and completing it earns you a reward for him. Speaking of quests, completing the Archon Quest will grant you 500 Primogems. As a member of Hexenzirkel, Durin and other characters can gain new powers when you complete more quests in Moon-Prayer Night.
All characters connected to the Hexenzirkel can benefit from certain story quests tied to their abilities. This is a big new addition, and will affect Venti, Klee, Albedo, Mona, Razor, Fischl, and Sucrose – all of whom can become Hexerei characters. This ties into the new Hexerei Secret Rite effect, which will trigger when two or more Hexerei characters are present. The effect boosts the entire party’s combat effectiveness.

The other new character in Luna 3 is Jahoda, a 4-Star Anemo Bow wielder who’s great at healing teammates and absorbing Elements, which she can then use to deal damage. The first phase of Luna 3 will feature Durin and Jahoda, alongside the return of Venti. The second phase sees no new character debuts, but does feature the return of Varesa and Xilonen.
There’s more to get excited about in Luna 3, even if you don’t feel like spending most of your time in Nod-Krai. The Soulblazers’ Snowbound Journey event will take you back to Dragonspine, where you’ll find winter-theme minigames appropriate to an update cycle spanning December to January. This is how you can earn the 4-Star Rainbow Serpent’s Rain Bow, too.
Beyond that, you can also look forward to the Miliastra Wonderland UGC module getting new updates. The Wonderland Resource Center is where creators can get and share resources through the editing tool.
Wheel Big Trouble is a main story quest for Goofy in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It is exclusive to the new Wishblossom Ranch DLC and begins automatically after completing the Ghost Town quest for Scrooge McDuck. Goofy has mentioned that he saw a cave with a strange glow, but unfortunately, his caravan broke down and blocked the path. The player needs to find new wheels for Goofy’s Caravan and repair it to clear the path. In this guide, we will walk you through the Wheel Big Trouble quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Wheel Big Trouble Quest Walkthrough – Disney Dreamlight Valley
Follow Goofy and help him replace the Wheels
As the quest begins, follow Goofy to the northeast of the Wishblossom Village. He will take you to his broken caravan along the path to a cave. Speak to Goofy, and he asks you to get new wheels for the caravan. Here is how to get all four wheels for the caravan.
Complete the “Equine Delicacies” quest for a replacement wheel from Remy.
Complete the “Water Tower of Terror” quest to obtain a brand-new wheel from Scrooge McDuck.
Fish in the waters south of Wishing Way to find Goofy’s lost wheel. It will be in the gold ripples.
Dig out the wheel that Goofy lost near the entrance to Delver Dale. It will be in the corner.
After retrieving all four caravan wheels, return to Goofy near the caravan. Interact with Goofy and give him all the wheels.
Reach the Ranch Highlands and Find the Cave
Goofy will move his caravan out of the way. Continue ahead, and you will see two paths. Go along the path on the left to reach the Ranch Highlands. Once there, continue ahead and go to the back of the area to come across a cave.
Enter the cave and interact with the shiny yellow crystal in the cave. As you pick up the Crystal Key, the Stable Upgrade tutorial will pop up. You will be able to upgrade the Stable and adopt a new mount. Moreover, the Wheel Big Trouble quest will conclude after finding the Crystal Key. Furthermore, it will trigger the Crystal Cavern: Wishing Alps quest for Tinker Bell.

You’d be forgiven for not remembering PUBG: Black Budget, the extraction off-shoot of the original battle royale shooter, PUBG. Black Budget has been sort of floating around the internet for months, but Krafton never really committed to revealing core details about the game, or when players will actually get to play it.
This changes today, as the publisher – along with the game’s developer, PUBG Studios, have finally lifted the lid off the upcoming shooter.

Black Budget is described as a “tactical” extraction shooter. Squads of players infiltrate a mysterious island trapped in a time loop. There’s a bit of a STALKER element here with anomalies and various, unpredictable environmental shifts.
Coli, the island in question, hides a research facility that holds secrets and artefacts, which is what players will be attempting to extract. This is very much a PvPvE shooter, though PUBG Studios says the focus will be on exploration and discovery, rather than constant combat.
The game’s first set of closed alpha tests is set for December. The first takes place December 12-14, and another is scheduled for December 19-21. That’s six days across two weeks, with the test only being available on PC. Both sessions will be open to players in North America, Europe, and Asia.
As it usually works with these sorts of tets on Steam, the game’s Steam page has a link where you can request access. If granted, you’ll be able to find the closed alpha in your library and download it when the time comes.

Though this is a closed test, Krafton confirmed that players will be able to capture and livestream their gameplay. In fact, watching content creators might be how you get access, as Black Budget is going to have a Twitch Drops event running alongside those sessions.
When I played Arc Raiders prior to its launch, I likened its tense and uncertain atmosphere to that of the early days of PUBG, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what actual PUBG does with the extraction shooter premise.
So far, it sounds like it’s going to be doing its own thing, leaning more into the adventure side of the subgenre, but we’ll have to see how it all shakes out when the tests start. Indeed, the BR-like constantly shrinking circle sounds like it could be a game-changing twist.
VGB TURNS 20 YEARS OLD TODAY! WOW! As Albert Einstein said in one of my favorite games Command & Conquer: Red Alert “Time will tell. Sooner or later, time will tell…” And time sure flies when you’re having fun! Time to once more blow out a birthday candle to make a wish for many more years to come! 😀
It really was a lifetime ago when I started working on VGB back in October of 2005 with the goal of helping gamers enjoy gaming more with news, reviews and guides. Only to launch it a month later, one day before the Xbox 360 console launched. And times, they are a changing… While five years back Microsoft’s Xbox Series X / S and Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles launched the 9th generation of video game consoles, this Summer of 2025 we got Nintendo’s Switch 2 console-handheld hybrid and this month an announcement for Valve’s first PC-console hybrid Steam Machine coming in 2026! What a time to be a gamer. ^_^
Thank you all so much for visiting VGB over the years. Almost HALF A BILLION of you have visited us over 20 years! An insane number! 😮 Our website server still burns through 5 TerraBytes of data each month! Gamers are the best global community there is. As always, I feel that’s because we all have a shared memories of our favorite video games that makes us recognize how similar we are despite our differences.
Special thanks to my folks, my beautiful family and loyal friends for always supporting me. What started as a dream to blog about video games as a hobby turned into a full-on career, thanks to my ad agency Playwire for helping to make my wildest dreams come true to own a house, car, and semi-retire at 35, crazy stuff in a world where games journalism is the worst paying profession. It’s why I still love updating the website every week. I took the blue ocean approach Nintendo is famous for (read Reggie & Iwata’s books for inspirational quotes) and working 112 hour weeks for over 10 years paid off (no shortcuts there; you just gotta work hard, luckily I don’t have to work that much these days). Thanks to Josh, Laura, Toni et al for covering all the latest gaming news like a pro for many years alongside me. And if you’ve ever contributed to the blog, or maybe we just chatted that one time, I’ll always appreciate the time we spent together. Gamers rule the world! 🙂
GAME ON! 😀
PS: From one of my Top 10 favorite games, here is Super Mario 64’s epic credits song.
