Final Fantasy 7 Remake Lets You Make Every Attack Do 9,999

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Lets You Make Every Attack Do 9,999

Almost five years after Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade brought the game to PlayStation 5, that version of the game is getting a free new update that will add a new “streamlined” mode to the game for people who just want to enjoy the story. This patch will arrive on January 22, just in time for the RPG’s launch on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.

“To celebrate Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launch day on Nintendo Switch 2 & Xbox, a patch for the PS5 and PC versions will launch next Thursday,” Square Enix announced on January 15. “This introduces Streamlined Progression, including the ability to keep HP and MP topped up, and always hit for 9,999 damage!” Now every attack can be an Omnislash and you won’t even have to spend over 500 hours grinding at the first reactor to make it happen.

The previously teased Streamlined Progression mode is effectively a story mode for people who want to follow Cloud and his Avalanche pals in their journey through Midgar to topple Shinra without having to deal with all of the difficulty that might come from combat, and especially certain boss encounters. Instead of toggling the game to easy, players can make it so their characters are already maxed out and hitting for the most damage possible.

While included at launch in the new ports, the patch will let existing players on PC and PS5 play around with the mode as well. Could it be an easy way to clear the game on hard for the Platinum trophy? Maybe! And for newcomers it’s worth noting that anyone who buys the game digitally before the end of the month will automatically get the digital version of the original Final Fantasy VII along with it.

Full FC 26 Team of the Year promo brings free Hero upgrades and another unstoppable Claudia Pina

EA Sports has revealed the much-anticipated Ultimate Team of the Year cards for the 2025/26 season, including a slew of meta favourites from the likes of the evergreen Virgil van Dijk, super-fast Kylian Mbappe and unplayable queen of FC 26 Claudia Pina.

Elsewhere Lionesses Alessia Russo, Lucy Bronze and Leah Williamson feature alongside now-obligatory Barcelona duo Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati. On the men’s side, Arsenal’s title tilt sees Declan Rice and William Saliba make the first 11, while Champions League holders PSG have the most players from a single team, with Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and Nuno Mendes adding both rapid speed and technical prowess to proceedings.

However, the Team of the Year selection hasn’t been without controversy. The FC 26 TOTY promo is voted for by players, you probably cast your vote by selecting time-limited gold cards yourself, but that method has led some to question whether the Team of the Year is more of a popularity contest than a true measure of performance. This is with specific reference to Virgil, whose in-and-out form during Liverpool’s poor start this season has caused some to question his eight-straight inclusion.

In yet another blow to those of us who got Mario Gomez and Gianluca Vialli from the Classic XI Hero pack, during the TOTY event these Classic XI Heroes will be further upgraded to TOTY Honorable Mentions Heroes.

More TOTY items will also be dropping over the next couple of weeks, including a men’s and women’s 12th player, Honorable Mentions, 2 teams of TOTY Icons and both a men’s and women’s “Captain of the Year”.

You’ll be able to get different TOTY items from packs at different times in FC 26, on the following schedule:

TOTY Attackers: 16th-18th January
TOTY Midfielders: 18th-20th January
TOTY Defenders and Goalkeeper: 20th-22nd January
TOTY Icon Team 1: 16th-20th January
TOTY Icon Team 2: 20th-23rd January
Full TOTY XI: 22nd-30th January
TOTY Honorable Mentions players: 23rd-30th January

New Report Shows How Xbox-Published Games Sold On PlayStation In 2025

New Report Shows How Xbox-Published Games Sold On PlayStation In 2025

Microsoft and Xbox published 13 games on PlayStation in 2025, the most they’ve put on their former rival’s machine. So just how well are the games selling on the blue brand? A new report claims to have that data. Let’s take a look.

The report comes from Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics. Now, keep in mind, these are not official numbers as Xbox doesn’t share sales data these days. Instead, Alinea use their own magic formulas and weird rituals to estimate the numbers. So far, the company’s data has proven to be very accurate, but it is not without mistakes or controversies regarding its calculation methods, so keep that in mind.

The biggest success was Forza Horizon 5, which Alinea reported on last week, stating that the open-world racer sold a whopping 5.1 million copies on PlayStation. This has apparently generated $300m in revenue for the brand, but keep in mind that accounting for PlayStation’s 30% cut.

Then we have The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which Rhys claims sold 1.1m on PS5. That’s pretty decent, although Alinea’s data shows that roughly half of PS5 players only played for less than 15-hours. That’s a little surprising.

Next up, we have Gears of War: Reloaded. I thought this was going to sell like hotcakes, and yet it turns out only 572k copies were sold on PS5. Alinea claims 202k sold on Xbox and 73k on Steam, bringing the total sales to roughly 850k. Of course, Game Pass eats sales. Indeed, Alinea says 1.6m people played via the service, giving us a glimpse at just how much Game Pass effects sales.

The third most successful Xbox launch on PlayStation was DOOM: The Dark Ages, shifting 495k on Sony’s machine. This latest entry in the DOOM series has suffered weaker sales than probably expected, although again, Game Pass makes it far harder to judge success.

I’ll break down the rest in a table below, so you can see the lot. Notably, Alinea’s data does not include Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which has had a much weaker year than normal but still probably sold millions. Hellblade 2: Senua’s Sacrifice was not included in the data, either.

All in all, based on the sales numbers we do have and some back-of-the-napkin math, I’d estimate $510m in sales from Xbox games on PlayStation this year, not accounting for Sony’s cut. Once you throw in CoD, the numbers will be much higher.

How to Get Research Points in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check

How to Get Research Points in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check

Research Points are essential for upgrades in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check. If you want better equipment or to upgrade the base to handle tasks effectively, acquiring Research Points is the first step. It is essential to get effective upgrades as soon as possible, as the upcoming days in the campaign will get tougher. In this guide, we will tell you how to get Research Points in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check.

How to Get Research Points in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check

There are multiple ways to earn Research Points in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check. Each method includes a precise decision that can help you earn more Research Points.

Successful Inspections

On your daily inspection duty, you will have a chance to earn a handy amount of RP if you perform a successful inspection. You will get to inspect dozens of survivors daily. However, it is up to you to identify them correctly as clean, sick, or infected. Take your time and check each survivor thoroughly with the tools. If you score a high inspection rating, you will earn RP.

Inspection RatingSymptoms DetectedRP RewardPoorBelow 50%0 RPCompetentBetween 50% and 75%6 RPExcellentHigher than 75%9 RP

Earning 6-9 RP on every inspection will let you earn a decent amount.

Find New Symptoms at the Laboratory

During your daily inspections, you will also come across some unknown symptoms. It is better to send the individual to the Laboratory so that you can discover new symptoms. However, discovering new symptoms is a dangerous process, as you can lose a survivor if the process is not handled correctly.  You would have to remove the correct organ without disrupting the other organs. After that, you need to transfer the organ to a Sample Creator. Once done, take the test tube to the analyzer for any new symptoms. If you discover a new symptom, you will earn 10 RP. Moreover, if you discover all the symptoms in a chain, you will get a bonus 50 RP.

Send Survivors to Science Truck

After every five days of your hard work, the evacuation day will arrive. On this day, you will have to make a decision to send the Survivors to a Science Truck or a Military Truck. Sending the Survivors to the Military Truck rewards you with Money, and sending the Survivors to the Science Truck rewards you with RP.

5 Survivors – 50 RP

10 Survivors – 100 RP

14 Survivors – 150 RP

18 Survivors – 200 RP

22 Survivors – 250 RP

You would have to alter the decision on every evacuation day, as money is also crucial for upgrading the base.

Ryan Hurst will be Kratos in the God of War series | TheSixthAxis

Ryan Hurst will be Kratos in the God of War series | TheSixthAxis

Amazon have found their Kratos and he is not new to the God of War universe.  Ryan Hurst will be playing the PlayStation icon, having previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok.

The show has had two seasons ordered before the first scene has been filmed, with pre-production currently underway. The series will be skipping the Greek games and beginning in Norse mythology, but one would assume they are going to have explain why Kratos is covered in white ash and has giant chains wrapped around his forearms.

Ryan Hurst is best known for playing Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy and will be seen on the big screen later this year in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Amazon’s TV adaption of Sony’s God of War games landed an Emmy award-winning director for the first two episodes. Frederick E.O. Toye has signed up and should be familiar with historical violence, having directed Shogun for Disney, and also The Boys for Amazon.

He joins Ronald D. Moore, creator of the highly acclaimed Battlestar Galactica remake, who will be the showrunner. The series was announced in 2022 with Rafe Judkins as the showrunner, but he left the project in 2024 due to creative differences.

“’God of War’ is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling,” Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, said. “We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio.”

Ryan Hurst

Sony has a Horizon Zero Dawn movie in the works and a sequel to the Uncharted movie was announced years ago, but that seems to be dead in the water, perhaps due to Tom Holland’s busy schedule.  Sony Pictures are also producing the Metal Gear Solid movie.

Linux Mint 22.3 “Zena” is out now and supported until 2029

Linux Mint 22.3 “Zena” is out now and supported until 2029

The popular Linux Mint has a big new stable version available with Linux Mint 22.3 “Zena” supported up until 2029 as it’s a long-term support release. Bringing with it a whole lot of improvements across the board, it’s a genuinely good distribution overall that focuses on a no-nonsense approach to just getting you going.

Not much has changed from the Beta that I previously reported on but here’s a refresher.

There’s a new System Information app to help you see more about your PC and hopefully figure out any problems. With screens that cover a range of details like crash reports, USB info, GPU, PCI, BIOS and general system info. Plus a System Administration tool that currently lets you configure the boot menu.

Probably one of the biggest changes is Cinnamon 6.6 with improved Wayland support, thanks to changes to keyboard layouts and input methods along with the Cinnamon window manager (muffin) also seeing improvements for Wayland. The new and improved input support is fully compatible with Wayland for both traditional layouts and IBus input methods. The on-screen keyboard also had an overhaul to be native to the Cinnamon desktop, with added support for input methods and keyboard layout switch.

Lots more like the new layout for the main Mint Menu, which looks a lot more modern and it’s configurable too. The Nemo file manager got smarter with pausing and resuming of file operations, better thumbnails and improved search accuracy. There’s also a notifications badge on the window list for apps,

There’s a whole lot more, I’m just cherry-picking some fun bits.

See the release announcement and new features page for more info.

Going by Valve’s latest data we can see around 9.27% of Linux gamers on Steam use it, making it one of the most popular Linux distributions for gaming overall.

8 FPS Remasters We Want to See in 2026

8 FPS Remasters We Want to See in 2026

It feels like everywhere you look in the world of video games, you’re surrounded by remasters.

Oblivion’s remaster shadow dropped last year. Halo: Combat Evolved is getting remastered (again) while making its debut on the PlayStation 5 later this year. We also saw, before the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a very welcome remaster of the original Metroid Prime. We’re still waiting for the second and third Metroid Prime games to be remastered, though.

10 Best Linear Shooters for Players Tired of Open World Bloat

A narrow corridor is fine when you’re shooting in a straight line.

Those aren’t the only FPS remasters we’d love to see this year; there’s plenty to choose from, actually. Whether or not they come to fruition, however, remains to be seen. Hey, we can dream, though, right?

This list is presented in no particular order.

8

Metroid Prime 2 and 3

An Unfinished Trilogy

Metroid Prime 2 FPS Remasters 2026

Starting with Metroid Prime 2 and 3 seems like the most logical choice, as these games feel like the most obvious candidates for a remaster in 2026.

Given the massive success of Metroid Prime Remastered, not to mention that previously mentioned return of the Metroid Prime franchise, you’d think that Nintendo would give players a chance to finish the original Metroid Prime story before Beyond’s release, right? Well, that turned out to be wrong, apparently.

On the one hand, we already have the Metroid Prime trilogy available in one package. However, it is available exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Given that Metroid Prime 2 and 3 received the same TLC that the original got (updated graphics and modern controls), it will remind everyone how great the Metroid Prime franchise can be. Despite years of rumors, it hasn’t seen the light of day, but maybe it will in 2026!

7

Resistance: Fall of Man

Sony’s PS3 Era “Boomer Shooter”

Resistance Fall of Man FPS Remasters 2026

Nintendo and Microsoft aren’t the only ones who should be getting in on the fun of remastering first-party FPS games.

During the PlayStation 3 era, Insomniac Games developed a trilogy of boomer shooter style shooters, starting with 2006’s Resistance: Fall of Man. It launched alongside the PS3 console itself, showcasing what the system was capable of far better than Sony’s marketing team could ever dream.

The Resistance trilogy nailed its weapons, immersion, and storytelling. Given Insomniac’s pedigree, this isn’t much of a surprise. However, some of the gameplay elements haven’t aged well today. Given the current trend in the FPS genre to lean more to the old-school style of gameplay, thanks to the success of the Doom reboot, a remaster that addresses the trilogy’s concerns would be very welcome.

6

Far Cry 2

The One That’s Unlike the Other Ones

Far Cry 2 FPS We Want Remastered 2026

I know what you’re thinking: the Far Cry franchise feels like it’s run its course after the middling reception from Far Cry 6. Here’s the thing, though: Far Cry 2 isn’t like any other game in the series.

Ironically, Far Cry 2 was also incredibly divisive at launch, with many being put off by its gameplay design. Over time, there’s been a new appreciation for what the game is trying to do. It’s an incredibly immersive, beautiful, and ahead-of-its-time open-world experience that doesn’t hold anything back. It’s all about survival, scraping by, and doing what it takes to survive. That may not have played in the mid-2000s, but it absolutely does today.

Like Marty McFly playing Johnny B. Goode at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance, we just weren’t ready for Far Cry 2 when it was released. But our kids are gonna love it.

5

TimeSplitters Trilogy

The Spiritual Successor of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark

TimeSplitters FPS remasters we want in 2026

Both Perfect Dark and GoldenEye 007 have received remasters, but the fate of modernizing their spiritual successors lies in the hands of fans.

Developer Free Radical Design was founded by former Rare developers, notably David Doak, Steve Ellis, Karl Hilton, and Graeme Norgate. They would release an FPS trilogy called TimeSplitters that would find a devoted fanbase during the PS2/GameCube/Xbox era.

In many ways, the gameplay felt like a modernization of GoldenEye, complete with the added twist of time travel. Yes, it’s as much fun as it sounds, but sadly, it’s stuck on outdated hardware. As I hinted at earlier, fans are currently working on TimeSplitters Rewind, and that may be as close as we get to an official remaster.

No One Lives Forever

No One Lives Forever

One of the most underrated FPS games of all time, No One Lives Forever doubles not only as an incredible stealth-action shooter, but also one of the sharpest, most cleverly written games of all time.

Everything works together, from its story, its 1960s setting, Cate Archer as a protagonist, and its gameplay all worked together, delivering one of the best shooters from the late ’90s. Sadly, the gameplay hasn’t aged well, which would make it the perfect target for a remaster, right? Well, about that.

The question of who owns the rights is up in the air with uncertainty. As a result, never mind a remaster: you can’t even buy the game today. Nightdive Studios attempted to acquire the rights to the franchise in 2014, but sadly, that effort remains unsuccessful to this day.

F.E.A.R.

Atmospheric Horror

F.E.A.R. FPS Remasters 2026

Speaking of immersion in an FPS, there may be no better example of that than F.E.A.R.

The runaway success of the Resident Evil franchise, both its recent reboots and modern releases, should prove that horror games can still sell. Add in the fact that F.E.A.R.’s gameplay and AI were already ahead of their time, and this should be a slam-dunk remaster decision. The core gameplay holds up extremely well today, too, so it’s not like you have to make any massive changes to the game.

There is, unfortunately, one small problem: The publisher for F.E.A.R., Vivendi Games, no longer exists. Warner Bros. Interactive currently holds the rights to the IP, but Warner Bros. as a company is currently being acquired by Netflix. If Netflix, who has made attempts to break into the video game industry, wants to make a splash, a F.E.A.R. remaster would be a slam dunk.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

Put Respect on Kyle Katarn’s Name

Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II FPS Remasters 2026

There’s something magical about the Star Wars PC games from the ’90s. They nail the heart and magic of what makes Star Wars great. They’re campy, don’t take themselves too seriously, but still deliver an unforgettable experience.

The mid-’90s to the early 2000s saw a string of PC games released under the “Jedi Knight” franchise, starting with 1995’s Star Wars: Dark Forces and running through Jedi Academy. 1997’s Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II stands out above the others, though.

On the surface, it’s a low-budget Star Wars-skinned corridor shooter with entertaining gunplay. As you dive into the game, though, take in its FMV cutscenes, and get to experience everything it has to offer, it becomes so much more. Branching story resolutions based on your actions, force powers, lightsaber battles; it’s all here! This game rocks.

Hexen II

Whatcha Say, Phil?

Hexen II 2026 FPS Remasters

Developer

Raven Software

Platforms

Windows, MacOS

Release Date

September 11, 1997

Remember that time Phil Spencer wore a Hexen shirt and started rumors about an upcoming remake? Let’s all try to bring said remake into fruition in 2026.

The biggest flaw with Hexen II was that it sometimes fell under the weight of its ambition. It looks like your standard Quake clone, even using the modified Quake engine, but it borrows a lot of RPG elements. On the plus side, this helps it stand out from a sea of Quake clones that got lost in the shuffle. The downside here, though, is that it sometimes felt a little confused. In the end, it’s all well worth it, and if you can look past its flaws, Hexen II remains a delight today.

Despite being well received by critics, Hexen II was a commercial flop. The current gaming market seems better positioned to take an old-school shooter that isn’t afraid of new tricks, though. So again, what do you say, Phil? How about a Hexen II remaster?
