The first Star Wars show of the Dave Filoni era could bring an iconic Sith back to canon

The first Star Wars show of the Dave Filoni era could bring an iconic Sith back to canon

It’s a great time to be a Darth Maul fan. Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, a new animated series from Lucasfilm Animation following the ex-Sith’s journey into rebuilding his criminal syndicate on Janix (“a planet untouched by the Empire”), is set to land on Disney Plus in April. Even better, Sam Witwer, who elevated Maul from menacing attack dog to Shakespearean villain with his voice acting in both The Clone Wars and Rebels, will reprise his role.

But as excited as fans are to get another taste of Maul, some are already focusing on another possible character who’s only appeared so far in the Star Wars Extended Universe (a large collection of decanonized comics, books, and games that expanded on the original six films known as the EU). That character is the fearsome Sith known as Darth Talon.

Maul’s quest to rebuild his empire won’t be easy. As revealed in the teaser trailer for Shadow Lord, he’ll encounter foes like Captain Brander Lawson and Two-Boots from Star Wars: Shadow of Maul, a comic set to debut in March that will serve as a prequel to the show. However, it’s the appearance of a certain Twi’lek that has fans theorizing about Darth Talon.

In the teaser, we see a pink Twi’lek named Devon Izara fighting off stormtroopers with a lightsaber. She complains about constantly needing to be on the run, and we see scenes of Devon awash in a red light, with Maul’s shadow covering her face.

“I offer you an opportunity,” Maul says.

With these teases in the trailer, and with Devon being a Twi’lek, fans are theorizing that Maul will take her on as his apprentice and shape her into a Sith.

While there have been plenty of Sith lords and apprentices in the EU, Darth Talon remains one of the more memorable. She was originally introduced as a villain and apprentice of the Twi’lek Sith Lord Darth Ruyn in the 2006 Star Wars: Legacy comic series by writer John Ostrander and penciler Jan Duursema. Later, she would become an apprentice and one of the “Hands” of Darth Krayt (aka, the Dragon of the Sith). However, it was only six years after her introduction that she would begin to cross paths with Darth Maul.

Lucas originally envisioned a Talon and Maul team-up in a now-scrapped video game. While that didn’t pan out, the creator of Star Wars plotted to make this duo the main villains of his planned Star Wars sequel trilogy. In Lucas’ version of the movies, an older Maul would become the “godfather of crime,” while his apprentice Talon would have become “the new Darth Vader.”

This obviously did not work out. Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney in 2012, and the company ignored pretty much all his ideas for the sequels. (The concept for Darth Talon as a Sith apprentice may have subtly influenced Kylo Ren’s character.) In the years since, fans have continued to wonder and speculate over what Lucas’ version of the sequels would have looked like.

All of this leads us to wonder: Is Shadow Lord an animated version of Lucas’ sequel trilogy? After all, the new series is created by Dave Filoni, who was not only hand-picked by Lucas as his apprentice but is now taking over Lucasfilm. Of course, this new show was written and animated long before the news of Filoni’s promotion was official, but it’s still possible (even probable) that the Clone Wars director took his inspiration directly from his old master.

However, it’s clear from Shadow Lord’s trailer that if Devon does end up becoming Darth Talon, it will be far removed from Talon’s original creation. For one thing, Devon appears much younger, with fans speculating she could be an Order 66 survivor. She’s also on the run from the Empire, and doesn’t seem too keen on embracing the Dark side.

However, Jedi turning to the Dark side of the Force isn’t anything new, and if Filoni is keen to bring Talon into Star Wars canon, the introduction of Devon (someone vulnerable and looking for guidance) would be the perfect way to do so.

Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord will stream on Disney Plus on April 6.

Scott Pilgrim EX Releases In March, So Get Your Coins Ready

Scott Pilgrim EX Releases In March, So Get Your Coins Ready

Get ready to collect coins, punch vegans and be in lesbians with Ramona Flowers, because Scott Pilgrim EX officially has a release date!

The 2D brawler, which was announced in June 2025, will release on March 3rd for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Switch and PC.

The game tells a standalone tale, but is a sort-of sequel to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. In fact, I’d argue it’s heavily based upon it.

It’ll feature seven playable characters, some of whom are the evil-exes Scott battled such as Lucas Lee. The trailer above reveals two more playable characters: Matthew Pattel and Robot-01. That leaves just one character left. Who is it going to be? It better be Wallace Wells, who doesn’t fight at all but can unleash devastating gossip that renders enemies unable to do anything because they are too busy being gobsmacked. Just a thought.

Story-wise, it’s your gang touring Toronto, torn apart by some time-and-space nonsense, and three gangs: the vegans, the demons and the robots. Said gangs have also kidnapped Scott’s bandmates, so that’s a bit of a bummer.

The original Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Videogame was well-loved, so here’s hoping this one, developed by Tribute Games, will be just as good.

Epic Games Is "Stepping Up" Efforts On Fortnite Live-Service

If you ask most Fortnite players about the current state of the game, they’d probably be thrilled–outside of technical issues. Recent updates include a detailed Simpsons season with Springfield Island, along with major crossovers featuring The Office and South Park. Despite the onslaught of content, Fortnite design director Ted Timmons says Epic is ready to “step up” its efforts on the live game.

“We’re stepping up our focus on the live game,” Timmons wrote in a post on X. “We know that as we prepare for the exciting seasons ahead of us the underlying foundations of the game must still be stable.”

Timmons directed players to a thread started by a Fortnite community manager, asking the community to report bugs and provide feedback. Players have highlighted a wide range of issues–from replay mode problems to game reload errors and regional server settings glitches.

Highguard Steam Players Down 80% Already

Highguard Steam Players Down 80% Already

Yesterday, I wrote about the launch of Highguard, a new free-to-play live-service game. The Steam player count was promising, even if the player reviews were less than kind. But now, just a day later, those players are already vanishing.

Highguard launched to just shy of 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, a very stong start. Now, usually when tracking stats on SteamDB you will see an ebb and a flow as major markets log off for the night. But each day you’ll see a surge of players logging back on, and if you’re very lucky, it’ll be close to the initial launch count, or sometimes even higher!

Highguard, though, has not seen that normal pattern occur. In the 30-hours since launching – and therefore past the point you’d expect to see players flow back in as they wake up or get home from work – Highguard has sat at around 18,000 concurrent players.

Doing some quick math, the player count has dropped by approximately 80%.

But based on my research, a drop of this size isn’t unheard of, or even uncommon, though it’s still not a great sign. The initial launch numbers put Highguard in an elite tier, as very, very few games ever hit the 100,000-concurrent player mark. The prominence it got at The Game Awards and its free-to-play pricetag mean a lot of people will hop on just to see what’s going on, so I’m not shocked to see a big drop in numbers.

The real test will come within the next few days. If the numbers can hold at 10,000-20,000 it may have a future, as the developers have stated they don’t actually need a lot of players for Highguard to work. Let’s be honest, 18,000 on PC alone is actually good for a small team’s brand new IP. Plus, we don’t know how well it’s performing on console.

With all that said, the big drop in players is a lot more worrying when you factor in the thousands of negative Steam reviews that will leave the game branded for a long time. There’s a small sliver of hope as today’s stats show the positive review ratio climbing a bit, but it’s still 4,800 positive reviews to 6,000 negative ones. It’s now sitting at 17,000 reviews total, with a “Mostly Negative” rating.

Are all those reviews genuine? Is it suffering from a classic case of Internet gangbanging? Probably at least a little, sure, but a lot of them have to be genuine, too.

Who the hell knew getting the prime spot on The Game Awards because host Geoff Keighley would end up being a bad thing? Still, it is doing infinitely better than Concord, so that’s nice.

Living In Gotham City Is Wild, According To New Arkham City Video

Living In Gotham City Is Wild, According To New Arkham City Video

I love this new YouTube video that uses mods to recreate the life of an NPC citizen of Gotham City in Batman: Arkham Knight because it lets me experience something I’ve always thought about: What it must be like to live in the same place as a superhero.

Living in Gotham City, the urban sprawl that superhero crimefighter Batman calls home, must be wild. Going out to grab something from the nearby convenience store could lead to you getting a front row seat for Batman’s next gang fight. Or he might just run past your window in the middle of the night. Or worse, he could run you over with his Batmobile-tank that is totally nonlethal, okay? And that’s what you get in Gaming with Griff Griffin’s new short but sweet Batman: Arkham Knight video.

My favorite moments from Griff’s video are when it really does feel like you’re seeing things from the perspective of a random Gotham City resident who just so happens to catch a glimpse of Batman. I imagine with a city as big as Gotham, not everyone has seen Batman, so it’s likely a treat for those who do. Or maybe scary as hell? Probably a bit of both.

“Essentially, I modded Batman: Arkham Knight to ‘take control’ of pedestrians in Gotham, and see what Batman looks like from their perspective,” Griff explained to Kotaku in an email. The creator has also made a video presenting things from the point of view of the gang members Batman beats up in the games, in case you’re curious about that experience. It is a far more terrifying way to encounter the Dark Knight.

The League Quest Guide in Arc Raiders

The League Quest Guide in Arc Raiders

The League is a brand-new quest for Apollo in Arc Raiders, added with the recent Headwinds update. This quest is readily available for acceptance after updating the game to the latest client. Upon accepting the quest, you will have to deploy on two different maps to take photos of different Points of Interest. In this guide, we will walk you through the League quest in Arc Raiders.

The League Quest Walkthrough – Arc Raiders

The League quest requires players to deploy on the Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City maps to photograph sites of football interest. Additionally, the players will have to find and deliver a couple of items to Apollo. Here are all the objectives of the League quest in Arc Raiders.

Deliver a Deflated Football to Apollo.

Deliver a Bicycle Pump for Apollo.

On Damm Battlegrounds, photograph the goal by the Water Towers.

On Buried City, photograph the football magazines in any kiosk.

As you accept the quest, you will receive 5 Yellow Light Sticks and 5 Red Light Sticks. There is no use for these items at all for the quest, so you do not have to bring them along in the raid. Last but not least, you can complete this quest in multiple raids. However, if you find a Deflated Football and a Bicycle Pump, you must extract safely to deliver them to Apollo.

Photograph the Goal by the Water Towers

Start the raid on the Dam Battlegrounds map and go to the Water Towers landmark, southwest of the map. Go close to the tower, and you will spot a wooden goalpost. Interact with the white spot to take a photograph of the goalpost.

Find a Deflated Football

The Deflated Football can be found in Residential spots. However, for this quest, there is a guaranteed spot for this item. Alongside the goalpost on the Water Towers, there will be a container with a quest marker. Loot this container to get the Deflated Football.

Photograph the Football Magazines in any Kiosk

Start the raid on the Buried City map and go to one of the Kiosk locations. There is one in Marano Park and one next to Marano Station. Go to any one of the kiosks, and you will find the photo icon. Take a photograph to complete the objective.

Find a Bicycle Pump

The Bicycle Pump can be found in Residential spots. However, similar to the Deflated Football, there is a guaranteed spot for this item. There is a bicycle spawn on the Water Towers in the Dam Battlegrounds, and on the north side of Marano Station in the Buried City. All you have to do is loot the bicycle to get the Bicycle Pump.

Make sure that you put the Bicycle Pump and Deflated Football into the safe pocket, so that you can keep them safe.

Rewards

After completing the main objectives, return to Speranza to end the quest. You will receive the following rewards for completing the League quest in Arc Raiders.

Faded Flush (Aviator Color)

5x Tagging Grenade

5x Firecracker

The Regal Update Turns BALL x PIT on Game Pass Into An Endless Roguelite Monster | TheXboxHub
BALL x PIT Regal Update artwork showing new characters and explosive effects

Things are getting decidedly royal in BALL x PIT, as the smash-hit ball-fusing roguelite rolls out its first major content drop – The Regal Update.

The Regal Update is available right now as a free update on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Game Pass and PC, adding new characters, destructive new balls, and one of the most requested features since launch – a proper Endless Mode.

Already free-to-play and easy to lose hours in, BALL x PIT’s latest update leans fully into chaos, experimentation, and the irresistible “just one more run” mentality that made the base game such a hit.

Two New Characters, Two Very Different Playstyles

The Regal Update introduces two brand-new heroes, each dramatically changing how BALL x PIT feels in motion.

The Falconer Takes To The Skies – The Falconer attacks from both sides of the screen, launching balls via a pair of loyal birds. The result is a wide, swooping attack pattern that excels at crowd control and makes positioning more important than ever.

The Carouser Bends The Rules – If controlled chaos is more your style, the Carouser delivers. This medieval royal mischief-maker warps ball trajectories using a personal gravity field, pulling shots off their expected paths and opening up wild new possibilities for creative builds.

Both characters slot neatly into BALL x PIT’s experimental core, encouraging players to rethink their usual strategies from the very first run.

Eight New Balls Designed For Maximum Destruction

BALL x PIT lives and dies by its ball fusion systems, and The Regal Update expands that sandbox in spectacular fashion.

Among the eight new balls are:

Fireworks – bursting outward in bright, unpredictable patterns

Stone Ball – devastating on impact but gradually crumbling as it bounces

Landslide – triggering a cascading wave of debris that damages enemies over time

These additions push the game’s fusion mechanics even further, creating new synergies that feel both powerful and gloriously unhinged.

Endless Mode Finally Arrives

Perhaps the headline feature of The Regal Update is Endless Mode – something BALL x PIT players have been asking for since day one.

Unlocked after finishing the game, Endless Mode allows each area to continue indefinitely once its boss has been defeated. Agree to descend deeper, survive the escalating danger, and see just how far your build can carry you before the pit finally claims you.

It’s a natural fit for a game built around experimentation, and it gives veteran players a new reason to push their favourite builds to breaking point.

Why The Regal Update Feels Like A Natural Evolution

When we reviewed BALL x PIT, we awarded it a 4.5/5, praising its addictive loop and inventive mechanics. As we said at the time:

“BALL x PIT is a mash-up of Vampire Survivors and Breakout, and it is just as addictive. Runs are short and explosive, and you can feel the improvements in between them, all lending itself to giving it one last try, again and again.”

The Regal Update builds directly on that foundation, adding more variety without diluting what made the game special in the first place. It’s confident, generous, and unapologetically focused on giving players more toys to break the pit with.

BALL x PIT – The Regal Update At A Glance

Free Regal Update available now

Two new playable characters – Falconer and Carouser

Eight new balls with destructive effects and fusion potential

Highly requested Endless Mode added

Available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC

Base game is free-to-play through Game Pass

A Royal Invitation Back Into The Pit

With The Regal Update, BALL x PIT doesn’t just add content – it reinforces why the game exploded in popularity in the first place. New characters shake up the flow, new balls supercharge experimentation, and Endless Mode gives players the ultimate test of their builds and nerves.

Best of all, it’s entirely free, making now the perfect time to return to the pit – or dive in for the very first time and see just how deep you can go. Hit up the likes of the Xbox Store to get access to BALL x PIT.

Ghosts’n Goblins is also getting a Commodore Amiga AGA edition via JOTD! [UPDATE]

Ghosts’n Goblins is also getting a Commodore Amiga AGA edition via JOTD! [UPDATE]

If you played ‘ Ghosts’n Goblins ‘ the first game in the Ghosts ‘n Goblins franchise on systems such as the Amstrad, Amiga, Atari, C64 and ZX Spectrum, or the more recent arcade overhaul that was released for the Plus/4. You’ll be interested to know that as of just recently, JOTD has started working on Ghost’s’n Goblins for the Commodore Amiga as an AGA edition. Although he does state “This will be a AGA-only project I think. The original OCS version by Elite is already very good. Not sure it can be improved (apart from the reuse of the original code)”

New Videos

Here’s the latest from JOTD. “A bit early to talk about this project or is it? Skyzoo73(link) did an awesome job with the first level in Scorpion, but after confirming with him again, this isn’t going to go further. I asked him if he blessed the fact that I continue the work (from scratch) and he was ok. I also joined IM76 who provided me with the tunes he made for the first level & others. Pretty awesome job too. Graphically, the status isn’t too impressive but
game is fully transcodedgame boots and shows title screen The amiga version will kick ass. I’m going to try new things like interrupt-based blitting and corkscrew scrolling, due for a while. If that works, I’ll retrofit all my other games  I could quit my job and I still wouldn’t have the time for all this.

UPDATE : In regards to the latest videos shown above, JOTD was quoted as saying, “time for a little treat. As you can see, the tap + fire works like the original, everything plays the same. Sprites are a bit jerky against the scrolling but it’s really a start. Emulated amiga. Speed is not a concern right now. Note the awesome music that IM76 just created for this port.”

And that’s all we know so far, but as soon as we know more this article will be updated with the latest news!

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered delayed| TheSixthAxis

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered delayed| TheSixthAxis

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, or DW3CER as no one is calling it, was set to be released on March 19th 2026, but that is no longer the case.

A message from producer Tomohiko Sho reads as follows:

“The release of Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered has been postponed from the previously announced March 19th, 2026.  As the first remaster of the Dynasty Warriors series,  in order to satisfy our fans, we have made the decision to further improve the quality of the game. The new release date will be announced at a later date. We appreciate your patience as we take a little more time before the game releases”

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered looks to retain the gameplay of the original game, but has been completely remade using Unreal Engine 5. The team has also reconsidered some of the gameplay and UI elements to refine the experience.

The remake includes the original game plus the Xtreme Legends expansion which includes more scenarios, officers such as Lu Bu, Meng Huo and Yuan Shao, four challenge modes and more weapons. That will boost the roster to over 40 officers who will be battling thousands of enemies all at once.  Dynasty Warriors 3 was the first game in the series to feature mechanics that would become a mainstay for the series, such as True Musou Attacks, two-player simultaneous play, and the officer development system.

When it does eventually get released the game will be launching on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and PC.
