Genshin Impact Luna 5 takes the squad back to Mondstadt, finally makes Varka playable


The latest big content update has been revealed for HoYoverse’s breakout game, Genshin Impact. Version Luna 5, which has the unusually long and needlessly layered title — Song of the Welkin Moon: Variation – Homeward, He Who Caught the Wind — is set to arrive February 25.

This one is a bit of a nostalgia play, taking everyone back to Mondstadt, the place where you may remember taking your first steps. And, as with any good return to the ol’ hunting grounds, come familiar characters, too.

The big new arrival is Varka, who joins as a playable character for the first time. Varka, Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius, is a character whose debut has been long-awaited. He is a 5-Star Anemo Claymore wielder with a dual-wield combat style, capable of dealing two different types of Elemental damage. His addition means that there’s now finally a burly 5-Star male character of each elemental type… do with that information what you will.

Varka’s dual-wielding combat style allows him to deal two different types of Elemental damage at the same time. The way it works is that his Elemental Skill boosts the damage of his regular attacks, but it also converts the damage type of his right-hand claymore to match his teammates’ elements (Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo). The left-hand claymore always deals Anemo damage.

The more normal attacks you use, the more frequently he can activate a special Elemental Skill, or trigger a Charged Attack that doesn’t consume stamina. He can also rely on the Hexerei effect to trigger more instances of Elemental Skill, as well as Charged Attacks, making him a monster damage-dealer.

Varka, of course, has been a staple member of the cast, featuring in both the original story in a small cameo, as well as taking a bigger role in the recent Nod-Krai chapters. With the return to Mondstadt, his playable debut makes sense. His Story Quest will shed light on his encounter with the Wild Hunt, and the Great Wolf King of the North

The reruns for this version are going to be Flins — who will be available in the first phase of Event Wishes — as well as Skirk and Escoffier in the second phase. You can also look forward to the return of the Chronicled Wish with Mondstadt characters.

Staying on the theme of reminiscence, the big event in Luna 5 is centered around revisiting memories from the beginning of your time with Genshin Impact, and reuniting with old friends. In Echoes of Memory, you’ll witness familiar scenes that have been changed slightly, and you’ll need to use the Spotter Kamera to detect and record those differences.

The Knights of Favonius are hosting several other activities for everyone to take part in, including an event that lets you catch up with old friends over drinks which you make for them.

Outside of events, there’s a new set of Gliding and Combat Challenges. And, of course, there are new minigames that you can relax with. The Kamera is being utilised yet again, and this time you can use to capture sights from your time in spots across Natlan, Fontaine, and Sumeru. There’s also… a horde mode of a sort, where you fend off waves of enemies.

Sony’s State of Play that was held last night contained quite a few fun surprises, but alas, Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition wasn’t really one of them since it has been something of an open secret for a while now. But we did at least get a partial surprise; it’s coming out today, February 13 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC via the Ubisoft Store and Steam.

To celebrate the limbless icon’s 30th anniversary, this new edition contains 5 different versions of the original game: PlayStation, Atari Jaguar, MS-DOS, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.

You also get a “never-before-playable” SNES prototype, along with 120 levels from bonus packs. There’s a “Reimagined” soundtrack by composer Christophe Héral, too. Oh, and an interactive documentary that contains over 50 minutes of interviews, design documents, concept art and more.

In terms of gameplay, there’s going to be a rewind feature that lets you go back 60 seconds, an infinite lives option and even invincibility if you fancy taking a stroll through the whole thing while also laughing at the memory of idiots like me who played it raw back in the day.

You’re not crazy, trying to heal in Nioh 3 sometimes doesn’t work – and Team Ninja is fixing it


Nioh 3 has received a hot new update that brings plenty of bug fixes to very specific issues, but it also implements fixes for a few of the most common – and incredibly annoying – bugs. Patch 1.03.01 arrived earlier on all platforms, and it comes with a chunky set of notes.

This latest update, predictably, doesn’t add any gameplay features, but some of the included fixes will absolutely delight – or vindicate – so many of the game’s millions of players.

There’s plenty to go through in the patch notes published today for update 1.03.01, but the most impactful is a fix for an issue that “sometimes made it impossible to use elixirs during battle.” This is only a partial fix, but if you ran into the problem of smashing that shortcut button and not seeing your character play the healing animation, you’ll be glad to see it.

This is a problem myself and others have faced, especially in boss fights. You can even see the shortcut register your button press and proceed to ignore you. Another partial fix has been made to an issue that caused the game to crash. Team Ninja didn’t share specifics on that, and though Nioh 3 has been fairly stable for me in 70+ hours, it has definitely crashed a few times.

If you’ve been playing since launch, you likely have – or know someone who has – run into issues with save file corruption and other weird bugs around certain trackable items within save files.

Team Ninja already rolled out a couple of fixes there, and this latest one specifically targets losing valuables during Myths. If your save file has been affected, the game will now check and recover what was lost. Even more interesting is that the game will now automatically create a backup copy of your save data any time you load a save.

If you’ve made it into the Eternal Rift, you’ll be happy to know that today’s update takes care of a few progression blockers, and fixes an issue that allowed some players to obtain certain items before they were supposed to, locking themselves out.

One of the more amusing fixes concerns Mujina, who had a tendency to respawn if you prayed at a Shrine after opening a chest it was hiding in, which made it appear far more often than a mimic should.

Finally, there’s a set of fixes that address bugs (and exploits) when using specific Martial Art with certain weapons. There are a few fixes to AI, Myths, and one problem with the Minamoto no Yoritomo boss fight that made it impossible to interrupt him, even after he runs out of Ki.

Available now for £12.49, this new table pack drops into multiple pinball platforms, letting players relive legendary adventures from Fallout, DOOM, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in a fast-paced, score-chasing format.

Here, players battle demons inside a UAC facility, triggering chaotic multi-ball sequences and fast-moving challenges inspired by the DOOM Slayer’s relentless combat style. This should well be the most intense of the three tables.

Skyrim Pinball – Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Pinball leans into adventure and progression. Players can craft gear, trade items, complete side quests, and ultimately confront Alduin in a table built around exploration and discovery. A slower, more strategic experience compared to the others? Quite possibly.

After being an Epic Exclusive, the action-adventure Blades of Fire from MercurySteam and 505 Games is arriving on Steam on May 14th. It’s not just jumping from one store to the other, it’s also coming fresh with a whole lot of upgrades too.

Hordes Of Hunger Review – A fun mix of Dynasty Warriors and Grimdark fantasy | TheSixthAxis


Hordes of Hunger bills itself as being a survival arena slasher, and while you do indeed run around murking a bunch of enemies in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and you do level up as you go, it’s a bit more hands-on than most in the genre. That’s not a bad thing at all, but it means that, to me at least, it feels more like a roguelike Dynasty Warriors game… sort of.

Hordes of Hunger bills itself as a roguelite arena-slasher, but it’s a bit more than that. Borrowing a cup of sugar from the roguelite’s neighbours in the bullet heaven household brings regular levelling up through a run into the mix, as well as the larger hordes of enemies to battle. It feels to me like a roguelite spin on Dynasty Warriors… sort of.

You take control of Mirah, a woman on a mission to kill just about everything she sees, because they’re all really hungry and trying to eat you. It basically means there are a lot of monsters to attack, and while they start off just sort of running at you, they’ll quickly end up trying to explode you, debuffing you with magic, and leaping across the map at you. It’s a simple enough premise, and it’s a simple enough game as well.

Instead of the auto-attacks of a Bullet Heaven game, you have to hold down a button to unleash a string of standard attacks, which will have you Geralting around the map with your sword swinging, or whatever other weapon you end up crafting. You also get a heavy attack which requires focus, which you get from hitting things, and a special attack which charges up over time. You’ve got a dodge and parry too, which end up feeling very relevant if you want to actually stay alive.

The dash is especially good, because healing is hard to come by, and one of the level up perks you get lets you heal for each enemy you dash past, which can keep you alive pretty comfortably. Things don’t get a huge amount more complicated than that, which is fine, although some of your level-ups can buff your other abilities, like granting a lightning strike to your jump attack.

With all of that at your disposal, you have to run around different levels completing missions, like destroying cranes or beating up bosses, and just keep doing that for each level. You’re going to die a fair bit – it is a roguelite, my friends – as getting surrounded is fatal, and because each and every new level brings some new enemy to ruin your day. The ones with shields can only be hurt by heavy attacks or special attacks, or lightning bolts.

It’s a fun little loop, as these games so often are, but it’s not doing much beyond that, and the progression feels a little sluggish. A lot of Survivor-likes are sort of carried by the sheer absurdity of your weapons and the things you can weave together, but Hordes of Hunger is a bit more grounded in it’s overall look and feel. That leads to the gameplay feeling a little bit more muted, and because progression is slow on top of that, with you buying passive buffs and crafting weapons sometimes, it just isn’t very inspiring.

Another Tetris style game has appeared that’s worthy of a mention on Indie Retro News, as we were recently informed by glowpoint JMD/Harwdired on our website that Retro Nanny has made available a work in progress version of the upcoming game called ‘GlowPoint’. A game that is described as an interpretation of the arcade game Flash point for your Amiga. To coincide with this news, provided below is the full details as well as gameplay footage from Saberman.

Here’s the latest. “One thing that I did miss when I was in my amiga years was a version of Flash Point – the tetris-based puzzle game – to play at home. I loved this version but the closest arcade where it was located was 10 miles away from where i lived.  I did pitch the idea to the team that made powder but they were not interested. After looooong time, i did try to recreate the game using flash in 2009 modifying an existing tetris flash game but then life went on the way and i lost the files.”

“Later on I did find a blitz pc tetris version. Had the idea to rework it and, with the help of cylon, a bare base working version was in the beginning, but then I was unable to go on and asked Hardwired to help. He did recode almost all the base engine, added the flashpoint gameplay, implemented music and a good chunk of the graphics, while I did provide the base graphics, the levels and the soundtracks plus some testing. This version is a one player only and has 99 levels (arcade similar). In future more levels are planned, and also a level editor might be available.”

Tramp will come to the Valley first, and Lady will come later. However, both of them will come to the Valley during their respective quest.

During the “Meatballs” quest, you will be able to invite Tramp to Dreamlight Valley. You will get the foundation of Lady and Tramp’s House from Tramp. Go to the Valley and build their house. It will cost you 20,000 Star Coins to build their house.

Once done, Tramp will come to the Valley. As you complete the Meatballs quest, the Critters and Compassion quest will initiate. You will have to return to the Lady and the Tramp Realm and help Lady free the critters from the dog pound. After that, you will be able to invite Lady to the Valley at the end of the Critters and Compassion quest. 

From here, you can freely hang out with them, give them gifts, and complete their Friendship Quests for exclusive rewards.

After a one-month delay, we’re finally days away now from the start of Battlefield 6’s Season 2 of live service. The second season is being revealed today, following weeks of teasers, and some Battlefield Labs testing of the first new map arriving with the new season.

It’s all going to kick off with a gameplay reveal, which is set to stream live later today.

As we’ve come to expect, the Season 2 reveal will take place via a YouTube premiere. It’s set to kick off live at 8am PT, 11am ET, 4pm GMT on the official Battlefield channel on YouTube – and embedded below. Today’s reveal will also be followed by a more detailed roadmap of Season 2, which will give us a much better idea about the volume and cadence of content we can expect.

Season 2 goes live February 17, kicking off a new chapter in the continued conflict between NATO and Pax Armata. The medium-large new map, Contaminated, will be available immediately at the season’s launch. Contaminated takes placed in the mountains of Germany, centered around a once NATO-owned airbase.

VL-7 psychoactive smoke appears to factor majorly into the gameplay of this new season, though we’re waiting to hear more details on that. We can expect new weapons, new gadgets, and the awaited return of the AH-6 Little Bird helicopter.
