    You wash up on a beach of a mysterious island, with no direction and no abilities. As you explore, you will find points of interest, revealing small tidbits about your surroundings, as well as abilities allowing you to manipulate the environment. Somewhere on this island are the answers you seek, but finding all the pieces you need will take a number of days. The story and events of each day will depend on which specific things you have achieved up until that time, which may change your plans as each day progresses. But having a plan is necessary to discover all of the island’s secrets within the day-limit imposed upon you. When the 30 days are over, the island will reset your progress. But in Overmorrow, not everything is as it may seem on the surface, and the game’s underlying metanarrative begins to unfold the more of the island you explore.

    Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages


    Valve announced a change for Steam today that will make things a lot clearer for everyone, as developers will now need to clearly list the kernel-level anti-cheat used on Steam store pages.

    In the Steamworks Developer post Valve said: “We’ve heard from more and more developers recently that they’re looking for the right way to share anti-cheat information about their game with players. At the same time, players have been requesting more transparency around the anti-cheat services used in games, as well as the existence of any additional software that will be installed within the game.”

    Developers with games already on Steam will also need to do this, as it’s not just for new games coming up for release, and it is also part of the release process now too. So Valve will be doing checks on games to ensure the notices are there and correct.

    However, it’s only being forced for kernel-level anti-cheat. If it’s only client-side or server-side, it’s optional, but Valve say “we generally think that any game that makes use of anti-cheat technology would benefit from letting players know”.

    More Amiga news this week as looking through the itch io website, we’ve found out that the developer of Electric Black Sheep. Who was behind games such as DUEL, Tale Of Evil and The Tower of Evil. Has released the Commodore Amiga game of Pumpkin! A 2024 Halloween edition of the classic Pac-man game for the amiga requiring only 1Mb Chip-Ram. To coincide with this news, Saberman has provided a game play video which as ever can be viewed below.

    From what we can tell from the video above, this looks to be a good homage for those of you who remember the classic from 1982. As not only does it have all the chomping goodness you could want in a Pac-Man Arcade game, but it mixes it up for Halloween with creepy ghosts, a large chomping Pumpkin, and skulls to munch on. Certainly one of the best games by far released by Electric Black Sheep!

    While BioWare is about to release its latest entry in the Dragon Age franchise in a couple of days in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the studio already has another game in the pipeline, and that’s the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise.

    If you’re not a fan of The Veilguard’s art style, you’ll be glad to know that the still-untitled Mass Effect game won’t follow its footsteps in terms of visual style. BioWare Project Director Mike Gamble confirmed this over on X, where he replied to a fan that Mass Effect is going the photorealistic route as long as he’s in charge.

    The Next Mass Effect Game Will Be Photorealistic

    As you can see from the tweet, Gamble disagrees that Dragon Age: The Veilguard resembles “Pixar-like” graphics. While calling it Pixar in nature might be a stretch, the art style used is definitely not something you’d see in a Mass Effect game.

    Continuing the Mass Effect talk, Gamble also shared that the next game in the franchise will maintain the “mature tone” of the original trilogy.

    As a long-time Mass Effect fan, a mature tone is the only way to go, and I’d wager that franchise fans wouldn’t want it any other way.

    I don’t blame you if you didn’t know that a new Mass Effect game is in development. In 2021, BioWare shocked gamers with a trailer announcingthat a new Mass Effect game was in the works during N7 Day. Unfortunately, after that initial announcement, nothing much has been shared, which is understandable given the studio would want all eyes to be on its new Dragon Age game that’s set to release much sooner than the next entry in the sci-fi RPG series.

    What Happened to the Mass Effect Franchise?

    While the original Mass Effect trilogy is revered as one of the best gaming trilogies of all time, all the goodwill and love disappeared after the monumental failure of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Released in 2017, the follow-up to the trilogy was both a critical and commercial failure, with many people noticing how weird the faces looked, which was never an issue with the franchise before. Since then, the franchise has been on a hiatus, with the 2021 announcement the first sign of life that EA isn’t done with the brand yet.

    Given that BioWare is about to release a game in a few days, our wait for the next Mass Effect game will be long.     Alchemist The Potion Monger has eyes bigger than its budget. A complete action rpg, with deep potion mechanics, quests and reputation system. Unfortunately, the game just didn’t have a big budget, the world is barren and just not all that interesting honestly.But we’ll get to that.

    In the game, you play an Alchemist, and make potions to do various things. First they are simple, but get more complex as time goes on. You see each potion ingredient has properties, and by using various tools, you change the properties. Each potion requires set properties. Match the properties and you can make the potion. Don’t match and the ingredients go poof. While making the potion, there is a simple mini-game that determines the strength of the potion.

    The world you inhabit in Alchemist The Potion Monger is an island filled with furries, and slimes, and I’m not sure what else. You have a house you can decorate. There is a stall you can buy to sell potions. There might even be a plot to this, in fact, I’m sure of it. What I’m getting at is that all the makings of a good game is here, there’s just a layer of polish missing here. Despite having the trappings of a large budget game, this game screams low budget. The game just was not compelling. It did not scream to me to continue playing, and I played it off and on for a week. It never clicked.

    There’s a town, but its not exactly inviting.

    In end, Alchemist the Potion Monger left me with a big sense of “meh.” It could have been a contender with a while longer in the oven, but as it is, it is there, and not much more. I give this a Your Mileage May Vary verdict with six back-end score. In the end, all the ingredients are there, just they didn’t congeal into a compelling whole. Maybe a higher price point would have equaled a bigger budget and more polish. I don’t know.

    Overall: Alchemist The Potion Monger should have been great, it has all the ingredients. Just it wasn’t cooked right and failed to appeal.

    Verdict: YMMV

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Steelbook is now available at Amazon and Best Buy. If you only read the long-winded name, you’d probably think it’s a new 4K Blu-ray edition of the 1974 classic. That’s sort of accurate, as it does come with the iconic slasher film on 4K Blu-ray, but it’s actually a combo pack that exists because of the 2023 asymmetric multiplayer game. This special physical release for PS5 and Xbox Series X comes with a 4K Blu-ray of the legendary horror movie housed in a commemorative steelbook case and a pack of trading cards featuring characters from the game.

    It’s a bit humorous that this collection is available at Best Buy, because the retailer stopped carrying Blu-rays this year.

    While this is a cool collection for fans of the game and the original movie, if you’re only looking to own the movie, you can instead pick up The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Steelbook for $33 (down from $55) at Amazon. This is essentially the same version of the film bundled in with the 50th Anniversary Collection, though the steelbook isn’t as cool. However, the 40th Anniversary Black Maria Limited Edition is pretty darn cool, as the 4K and 1080p discs are housed in a replica of the Black Maria semi-truck from the movie. Remarkably, it’s still in stock, and Amazon has discounted this five-disc set to $70 (was $100).

    The month saw shifts not only in revenue but also in player engagement.
