This Viral EVO 2025 Defeat Has A Surprising Backstory

This Viral EVO 2025 Defeat Has A Surprising Backstory

You didn’t have to watch the Fatal Fury finals bracket at Evo 2025 to see Kazuyuki “KojiKOG” Koji writhing around onstage in front of thousands. The moment instantly went viral online. It’s already been memed to South Town and back again. But there was more to KojiKOG’s Greek-tragedy-worthy theatrics than just performing for the camera.

KojiKOG’s epic semifinals defeat was delivered at the hands of Goichi “GO1” Kishida, who eventually went on to win the entire tournament. The former was playing Billy while the latter rolled Kain, both considered S-tier fighters in the current meta since Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launched earlier this year. But KojiKOG was immediately up against the ropes, unable to break out of GO1’s combos. He quickly lost the first round but found a couple of openings in the second. Twice KojiKOG almost reversed fate, getting GO1 down to within a sliver of his health before ultimately failing to finish him off.

The entire semifinal lasted less than five minutes, but KojiKOG howling in dismay at his defeat lasted nearly 60 seconds. While GO1 giggled, shrugged, and eventually tried to comfort his rival, people watching at home instantly began clipping the moment and sharing it around online. It was a perfect encapsulation not only of the stakes of that specific match but of the inner screaming we’ve all felt any time we’ve tried our best and still been found wanting.

As fans pointed out, this isn’t the first time KojiKOG has made extreme faces for the camera. nor was it his first bout against GO1. The two fighting game pros met in finals during an Evo 2015 side tournament for the 2D anime fighter Aquapazza as well. KojiKOG lost then, too, and pulled a similar stunt, acting as if his leg had been cut off. This time, of course, there was a lot more money and bragging rights on the line. GO1’s wins last night eventually netted him an extra $10,000 in prize pool money. He’ll also be in pole position for the $2.5 million Fatal Fury prize pool at the SNK World Championship in November (brought to you by Saudi Arabia’s human rights violation slush fund).

“KOG, who had his leg amputated after 10 years, vs GO1 EVO2025,” KojiKOG posted on X. While dramatic pop-offs after winning are a staple of the fighting game scene, KojiKOG may have just elevated the inverse of that into an art form all its own. Fans are already hyped to watch him lose his next big tournament.

EA Sports FC 26 is making Manger Career the most exciting it’s ever been with Unexpected Events and more

EA Sports FC 26 is making Manger Career the most exciting it’s ever been with Unexpected Events and more

EA looks to be pulling out all the stops when it comes to improving the feel of pretty much everything in EA Sports FC 26. The developer simply wants “to make gameplay better” in this year’s game, and it’s going to do so by upgrading almost every aspect of the experience.

The game will offer two gameplay presets to cater to fans of simulation, and those who put hundreds of hours in Ultimate Team every year and would rather controls felt snappier – but that’s only scratching the surface.

Manage cookie settings

The developer also recently revealed a massive list of updates coming to the game’s Career Mode, overhauling both Manager, as well as Player Career. The bulk of the changes come to more popular Manger side of things, with EA planning to make it a more evolving experience that matches the ever-changing nature of football in the real world.

This all starts with Manager Live, a new hub that will be updated weekly and monthly to offer fresh scenarios for you to tackle. EA wants to offer players small chunks of career gameplay that takes hours, rather than days, to finish.

The data will be based on real-world football, such as transfer seasons and major wins/defeats, but challenges will also expand to include timed events that offer scenarios that will test your ability to lead your team.

Through the Live hub, you’ll have control over the parameters of the challenges that come your way later. You’ll get to define the objectives, rules and even the context of challenges. Some of those include the team you’ll get to manage, the starting date within the calendar, and which competitions are currently active. You can also create challenges that are only designed for your Create Your Club team.

Icons and Heroes come to Manager Career in FC 26, letting you recreate classic teams or build a squad of legends. More Icons and Heroes can be unlocked through the season pass, with each season introducing new ones to the roster. You’re not even limited to just those players, as your squad can also include contemporary stars.

Manager Market gets some major updates in FC 26, too. The big one is that managers are no longer tied to a single club, meaning they can take on new jobs, get fired and so on. When a manger leaves, the team will be assigned a caretake manager, who could – should their performance be exceptional – get the job full-time.

However, if the caretaker doesn’t get the job, the club will be on the lookout for a new manger, and the game will rely on a list of attributes to determine which managers make the shortlist of candidates. Of course, these create opportunities for your character to apply (or be approached directly) for these jobs.

EA FC 26 will also reflect real-world football in a couple of new ways. A feature EA calls Deeper Simulation will allow you to select up to five additional leagues to simulate when starting a new career, effectively creating your own world of possibilities that resembles today’s football.

Your new home! | Image credit: EA Sports.

The desire to create an evolving narrative also continues with Unexpected Events, which is a system that effectively throws problems at you (player injuries, surprise transfers, new ownership etc.) and gives you the opportunity to adapt. If that sounds a little too stressful (or not stressful enough), you’ll be able to adjust the frequency of Unexpected Events in the game’s settings.

On the Player Career side of things, two major features you can look forward to are Player Archetypes, and updated Origin Stories. Archetypes is a new progression system in FC 26, letting you unlock and develop 13 player Archetypes.

The attributes are inspired by football Icons, letting you shape the identity of your created character and their path of progress. Further narrowing down each Archetypes are Specialisations, which influence the gameplay perks you have access to.

As for Origin Stories, EA said you can expect fresh narrative elements that make it exciting to go through the seasons. EA of FC 25’s paths will remain, upgraded wand polished, but there’s going to be two new ones, too: goalkeeper, and a newly-promoted player from the youth academy.

It’s worth reading the full blog post for an ever deeper dive. FC 26 is out September 26 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and Amazon Luna.

Lock’N’Chase – 1980’s Arcade game is coming to the Amiga thanks to JOTD

What do Moon Patrol, Donkey Kong, Super Bagman, Galaxian500, Super Xevious, Track’N’Field, Gyruss and Burger Time all of have in common? Well apart from being Arcade games, all of these games were given the Amiga treatment by none other than JOTD. A developer that seems to be on a mission, to port just about every Arcade game over to the Amiga. Well fast forward to today however, and there’s another game incoming, and it’s ‘Lock’N’Chase’; a new development by JOTD of a game that was originally released by Data East in 1981.

And here’s the latest developer notes posted via the EAB Forums (HERE). “Lock’N’Chase from Data East, a PacMan variation that I played in the arcades and I always liked the look of the cops when you took the bag of money. I had to bugfix my 6502 converter which did Burger Time perfectly, but that one was tougher. And it’s the same hardware that Burger Time too so that helped a lot (this was a nice surprise! Fun fact: Burger Time was kind of a request as I never played it back in the days. I did it anyway, I don’t remember why, and now that one that I wanted to do for a long time proves much easier thanks to Burger Time previous work)”

Furthermore he goes on to say. “Using OCS dual playfield as there are only 8 colors. Will use hardware sprites too for the cops so it will hopefully be super-smooth Using dual playfield allows to avoid having to restore the background tiles, so blits are super fast. And since there are only a few blits thanks to 4 attached hardware sprites, it will rock”.

And that’s all there is to say about the game thus far, but I cannot wait to play this latest conversion by JOTD when it’s finished!

Oh snap Brennen Lee Mulligan on Critical Role

Oh snap Brennen Lee Mulligan on Critical Role

When it comes to dominating the TTRPG scene, Critical Role can’t stop, won’t stop. Having mainstreamed Dungeons & Dragons actual play, adapted their campaigns into popular animated series, and launched their own tabletop system in this year’s Daggerheart, it’d be easy to think the CR gang might be out of surprises. Then Brennan Lee Mulligan showed up.

On Saturday night, Critical Role officially announced Campaign 4, which will, for the first time in CR’s core campaign, introduce a brand new host: Dimension 20’s Dungeon Master. Mulligan will take over for Matt Mercer when Campaign 4 launches in October.

According to a news release, Mulligan will step into the Game Master seat for the full duration of Campaign 4, “bringing his signature depth, humor, wit, and high-stakes drama to Critical Role’s next grand adventure.”

“We’ve been enormous fans of Brennan’s for many years now, and when it came to giving both Matthew Mercer and the world of Exandria a bit of a breather, Brennan felt like the perfect storyteller to take our community somewhere entirely new.” said CR CEO and cast member Travis Willingham. “Critical Role has always been about genuine connection through storytelling first and foremost, and as Brennan himself will tell you, he’s still played more TTRPGs away from a camera than in front of it. His passion and drive for worldbuilding is infectious, and it’s been an absolute joy to spark off him as we forge ahead.”

“What a gift, a privilege and an honor to be invited behind the screen of Critical Role for this next epic adventure,” said Mulligan. “Every collaboration we have had together has brought nothing but sheer joy, and Campaign 4 will be no exception. I’m finally playing *almost* as much tabletop as I’d like to!”

For anyone worried about Mulligan’s tenure on Dimension 20 and Dropout.TV, fear not: Per Variety, he has also signed a three-year contract to continue work with the improv comedy network.

Critical Role says Campaign 4 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 2 with instant access on Beacon.tv as well as streamed to the official YouTube and Twitch channels. The VOD will be available to all on the following Mondays.

Here at Polygon, we’re big fans of all things Critical Role, Dimension 20, and all things Mulligan. Here’s a recent highlight of CR’s new DM in action.

Blitz Royale has been Fortnite’s most popular mode since its release in June. The quick-paced mode is perfect for those who want to get a Victory Royle in just a couple of minutes. It’s fun, competitive, and it keeps you on the edge all the time. Due to this, it’s no surprise that Epic Games keeps adding new content to it, and the latest leak reveals new map changes.

Several changes have already been leaked, including the return of the iconic Fortnite place.

Tilted Towers is coming back to Fortnite, leak shows

Tilted Towers is arguably the most iconic place in Fortnite history. It was first released with Season 2 in December 2018 and has gained immense popularity since then. Over the years, Epic Games has released different versions of it, but none of them have been as great as the original version.

According to Shiina, a reputable Fortnite leaker, Tilted Towers will come to Blitz Royale soon. Considering how intense this game mode is, this comes as no surprise. Tilted has always been about epic fights, so adding it to Blitz Royale is a perfect move on Epic’s end.

Blitz Roylae is getting new content on a weekly basis. Image by VideoGamer

Blitz Royale is far more dynamic than the regular Battle Royale mode, as it gets new content weekly. This primarily affects the loot pool, but Epic also releases new gameplay elements, map changes, and more.

The most recent update added a six-player playlist to the game mode, as well as a new solo playlist. On top of this, the game creator made a significant map change by adding MEGA City, a popular POI from Chapter 4. The release date of Tilted Towers hasn’t been leaked yet. However, we expect the map change to kick in by the end of August.
