H.E.R.O. Is Back –  A homage to H.E.R.O with new levels for the C64


Sometime back we mentioned the classic game of H.E.R.O was being overhauled for the C64 as a vastly superior version of a classic game that was first released way back in the 1980’s for the Atari 800/2600, 7800, ColecoVision, C64, C128, and ZX Spectrum. Sadly it looks as if that version of the game isn’t going to see the light of day, but not to be too despondent, as we’ve just been informed via Saberman that LC-Games has released an update to his H.E.R.O homage called ‘ H.E.R.O is back ‘. A C64 game that now features 20 completely new levels for you to enjoy.

In this game which is a homage to an all time classic called H.E.R.O. You play as ‘ Roderrick Hero ‘, and must search the cave system for the miners of Mount Leone who have been trapped deep below after a recent volcanic situation that has occurred. The game features multiple levels, different themed underground areas, dangerous enemies such as spiders, and even dynamite to blow up walls to reach the miners trapped below.

The only thing that matches the joy I’m feeling every second I spend in Hollow Knight: Silksong is the degree of difficulty that Hornet’s adventure possesses.

I always thought Hollow Knight was demanding, but Team Cherry surpassed themselves by granting us a challenge vividly felt even in the game’s first hours, as they didn’t hold back at all.

Not only did they make everything have more complex movements and do more damage, but they’ve also included many deeply in-depth mechanics that can be overwhelming at first.

However, among these new gameplay options, there’s one in particular I want to emphasize to make beginners’ journey more accessible, which is why I invite you to read this list of the five best early-game tools in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

One of the first things you’ll notice in Pharloom is that even the most harmless enemy can deal two masks of damage to you, which is incredibly problematic.

Assuming you get hit twice and heal once, that leaves you with four hits you can withstand against the fiercest enemies, so the blue mask granted by Plasmium Phial can be the difference between victory and defeat.

With the extra health, you can endure one more hit in many circumstances, giving you the seconds you need to defeat that boss blocking your progress or surpass the ambush keeping you from sitting on that coveted bench.

Considering the scarcity of mask fragments in the title’s early hours, Plasmium Phial can be extraordinarily influential, and obtaining it after completing the quest from the NPC at the top of Wormways is really accessible.

Flea Brew

Completing “The Lost Fleas” quest in The Marrow

Quick Slash is by far among the best talismans available in Hollow Knight, and Flea Brew is its temporary equivalent in Silksong.

When consumed, you run and attack faster, making gameplay feel more dynamic and allowing you to deal considerable amounts of damage against slow enemies or stunned bosses.

Although the effect doesn’t last long and recharging it costs Rosaries, it’s a particularly recommended tool for those comfortable with the gameplay and not short on cash, as it allows them to exploit its damage even further.

Having increased speed is an ability that proved to be extremely powerful in Hallownest, and believe me when I say this new realm is no exception to that statement.

Team Cherry went too far when they introduced dozens of variations of flying enemies that hurl projectiles in all directions and are nearly untargetable, but that’s what the Curveclaw is for.

I’ll admit it’s the trickiest tool to master due to the trajectory this bone tends to follow when thrown, but it’s become the most effective way to take out flying enemies when they’re bothering me too much.

Since each area has its respective set of winged morons that are a bigger nuisance than entire bosses in Hollow Knight, the Curveclaw ended up taking on a lot more relevance and utility than I initially thought it would.

If you find it difficult to use, I recommend practicing with it in a moderately safe environment until you get the hang of it, as the threat reduction is well worth the Rosaries you have to spend with the Mottled Skarr merchant.

Flintslate

Since it took me over 10 hours to get my first needle upgrade, I spent much of that time thinking it did very little damage until I got the Flintslate.

Personally, it reminds me a lot of Charcoal Pine Resin from Dark Souls, as it temporarily imbues your weapon with fire damage to make a noticeable difference in damage output.

I’m not sure if I’d go so far as to say I defeated several bosses that were giving me trouble thanks to using the Flintslate, but I do recognize it made my life much easier against those that were tearing me to bits.

Considering its number of uses per recharge allows you to extend its duration during an average boss fight, you basically ensure your needle is always on fire for extra damage without much effort.

Speaking of struggling to deal enough damage to keep the current boss from having me dedicating dozens of attempts, the Threefold Pin has been my saving grace.

While getting used to the button combinations required to use the tools has been difficult and unintuitive, once I’ve gotten the hang of it, these little daggers thrown together have been game changers.

Using them between each needle slash has allowed me to fly through every screen, regardless of whether it’s against bosses or regular enemies, because the damage they do in tandem is simply out of this world.

If you can get used to the controls and consider yourself skilled enough, I highly recommend using the Threefold Pin, as it has become the most fun, yet most powerful, way to play Hollow Knight: Silksong.

I feel like I’ve given Hornet a tremendous buff, especially since the tool is easy to aim and is useful both from a distance and up close, making it extremely versatile for numerous situations.

Bennett Foddy has made a career of creating games that make you furious. From his early Flash games like QWOP and GIRP to more ambitious projects like Getting Over It, Foddy’s work challenges players to face down failure even in the face of the most simple tasks — like taking a single step.

So when Polygon’s Editor-at-Large, Giovanni Colantonio, came to me with the idea of filming an interview with Foddy during a walk through Central Park, I thought it seemed very fitting. Over the course of a couple of hours, we walked very slowly (and in my case, backwards) down the park’s beautiful paths, dodging tourists and golf carts and wood chippers.

Foddy is preparing to release his next game, Baby Steps, on September 23. It’s something that he initially thought might be impossible — an open-world walking game that is a philosophical expansion of QWOP but like, “good.” As Colantonio and Foddy talked about game design and the legacy of Foddy’s rage-bait movement games, I watched New Yorkers walking and running behind them, each in their own weird, unique way. As Giovanni put it at one point, “I guess the human experience is kind of a physics experiment in some way.”

Normally I’d ignore Wolf Simulator 2025: Wild RPG Battle. However, 2 years ago I reviewed Wolf Simulator: RPG Survival Animal Battle. That review stands as of the upper echelon of reviews, currently having 1.8 thousand views, making it a success. Heck, it had 23 views in the last month alone, which is not bad for this obscure site reviewing obscure games, especially for a two year old game. Anyways, the 2023 game was crap. The 2025 version is also crap. They aren’t exactly the same, but I’d image if I dug into the games’ pedigrees, they share a common base. Regardless, Wolf Simulator 2025 is a dung pile where the marketing lies to its audience. Observe, the left image is a screenshot on the website, the right is the actual game:

In Wolf Simulator 2025, you play a wolf that walks 2 miles an hour and can’t hit anything. It doesn’t help that the animal AI is non existent. Watch this video to see what I mean:

There is an RPG system here, where you gain new attacks and abilities if you level up, and new areas as well. But good luck gaining experience with that battle system. With no lock-on feature that I know of, you’re not killing anything at all. Frankly, even if It did exist, I’m not playing any more Wolf Simulator 2025. There’s no music, the graphics are eye-bleeding bad. I doubt getting abilities will make anything better.

Its even worse in motion!

Wolf Simulator 2025: Wild RPG battle gets a Garbage verdict with a one score. There are no redeeming qualities to this game, and somehow manages to be even worse than it’s predecessor. This is because it lacks the quest feature and fighting other wolves for territory. Now if you excuse me, I’m going to delete this off my Switch and never return.

Overall: Wolf Simulator 2025 manages to be even worse than Wolf Simulator 2023, a feat which one would think is impossible, yet here it is!

Verdict: Garbage

Darksiders 4: Release Date Info, Story, Trailer, And Everything Else We Know


Darksiders 4 was officially announced in 2025 during a showcase for developer THQ Nordic, and many longtime fans of the franchise are curious about its release date, story, and gameplay. The last time we saw the Darksiders franchise was in 2019 with the release of Darksiders Genesis, a prequel to the original trilogy. This game was met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike, but after radio silence from THQ Nordic for several years, many players thought it could be the last time we’d see the Four Horsemen in action.

Now, with Darksiders 4 confirmed, we finally get to see what THQ Nordic has been cooking up all of this time. We know the Four Horsemen are returning and picking up where they left off at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, but what else do we know about the fourth installment in the franchise? You can check out everything we know about Darksiders 4 in the guide below.

When will Darksiders 4 be released?

While we did get the reveal of Darksiders 4, THQ Nordic still has not given us a release date for the new action-RPG. Right now, the current release date is “to be announced,” and there’s no indication as to when an announcement is expected.

So, as of right now, we’re pretty much in the dark when it comes to a release date for Darksiders 4. It’s unclear how far along in development THQ Nordic is with the game, either, so we don’t have anything to go on at the time of writing.

Preorder Darksiders 4

As we don’t have a concrete release date for Darksiders 4, there’s currently no way to preorder the game on any of its available platforms (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S). This also means we don’t know how much Darksiders 4 will cost. However, Darksiders has, in recent years, usually been priced under the industry standard for a new AAA game. For example, Darksiders III retailed for $40 at launch, and Darksiders Genesis came in at $30. THQ Nordic could take that same approach with Darksiders 4, which would put it at around $50-60, but it might also be a full-priced, $70 game.

All you can do right now is wishlist the game’s Standard Edition on PC via Steam. This gives you a notification when Darksiders 4 officially goes live for preorders.

Naturally, this is only a sneak peek at the game that confirms the return of the Four Horsemen. We’ll have to wait for a proper trailer to see exactly what Darksiders 4 will look like.

Darksiders 4 Platforms

Darksiders is coming to PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s currently unknown if THQ Nordic will attempt to port the game to other platforms, such as Nintendo Switch 2, in the future. For now, though, Darksiders 4 will launch for only the current-gen platforms.

Darksiders 4 Story, Setting, And Characters

As we only have a small teaser trailer to go off, we don’t know too much about the story of Darksiders 4. We do know that the game picks up at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, though, so the setting will still be the post-apocalyptic version of Earth that’s remained prevalent throughout the franchise’s life. The developers also said that the setting will take place over different realms within the post-apocalyptic landscape, and each realm has unique bosses, items, and visuals.

During the game, you’ll get to play as one of the Four Horsemen characters, who have become staples of the franchise. Death, Strife, Fury, and War are back in Darksiders 4, and you can choose which one to play as for a playthrough. Each of the Horsemen features different weapons, abilities, and playstyles, giving you more replayability options for second, third, and fourth playthroughs of the main story.

Aside from the Four Horsemen, we’re unsure of any additional characters in Darksiders 4. However, with the story starting from the end of the first game, it’s a safe bet that some characters from the original will make an appearance.

Darksiders 4 Gameplay And Multiplayer

While we await more details and showcases of Darksiders 4, the developers have given us an idea of how the game will play. Just like the other games in the series, the fourth installment is a third-person action-RPG that emphasizes combat, narrative storytelling, and exploration through a lore-rich world.

The combat in Darksiders 4 features up-close melee action and supernatural abilities that each of the characters possesses. These abilities can all likely be used in combat in some fashion, but other abilities could be more useful outside of engagements with enemies. In the case of Strife, we’ll also likely be able to use his guns. Building on the cooperative feature in Genesis, it’s also been confirmed that Darksiders 4 will support up to four people in cooperative play, with each controller one of the Four Horsemen.

THQ Nordic specifies “traversal and puzzle-solving” as key components to the game. Darksiders is no stranger to unique movement and puzzles across the post-apocalypse, but the early marketing seems to suggest those elements will play a larger role in Darksiders 4. Some characters might offer more traversal abilities than others, which could give them an edge while exploring the map, while other characters might have abilities that make them tankier in battle.

We still don’t know a large chunk of how Darksiders 4 will look when it comes to gameplay, but THQ Nordic should be able to build off the foundation from the previous games in the franchise.

New Tron 3 Ad Features Mr. Beast And Folks, I’m So Tired – Kotaku


A new promo for the upcoming Tron: Ares features Mr. Beast in it and….*sigh* I’m just going to lie down for a moment. I’m very tired.

Why must Tron fans suffer? It’s a question I’ve thought about a lot. New Tron movies are rare. Tron games are often good, but nowhere near as plentiful as those for Star Wars or other brands. For years at a time, it will seem like Disney has forgotten it even owns the franchise, then it returns for a bit before going back into hibernation once more. I should, as a big Tron sicko, be excited for Tron: Ares. And I was, at one point. But not anymore…not anymore.

On September 5, Disney released a new look at Tron: Ares, but before anyone could get to the new footage featuring everyone’s favorite person, Jared Leto, we had to get a Mr. Beast jumpscare. Apparently, Disney thinks popular charity streamer and candy bar mogul Mr. Beast saying “Let’s do this!” in the most monotone and robotic way possible will help bring in the youth and make Tron: Ares a big hit. Instead, my timeline and most of the reactions to the ad show people giving up on the movie before it even arrives in theaters. And despite Mr. Beast not actually being in the movie, can you blame them?

The movie stars Jared Leto, which alone is a terrible marketing point. He’s a so-so actor who has been accused of sexual misconduct (allegations which he denies), and overall he just seems like a big creep. Then you have the plot of Tron: Ares, which seems to be built around the idea of digital beings from the Grid being brought into the real world. Meh. It’s neat to see a Lightcycle slice a police car in half, but leaving the Grid seems like a mistake. Now, the movie is being promoted by Mr. Beast. It almost seems like Disney is trying to pull a Producers-like stunt here and ensure nobody watches Tron: Ares. 

I guess the one good thing to come out of Tron: Ares is the existence of some new Nine Inch Nails music. That’s cool. I like that. Even if the movie sucks, at least it helped push Disney to remaster Tron: Legacy in 4K and got us all some new NIN songs. So not a total loss.

The sad thing is, I’ll still be there on day one (that’s October 10, by the way) to see Tron: Ares because I love Tron and want more of it. “Let’s do this,” indeed, Mr. Beast. Indeed.

What did you get if you mix up the isometric style of The Last Ninja and blend it altogether with a bit of cat complexities? Probably this game! A new Commodore 64 project by Polytricity called ‘CityCat Prowl’. This game created by Robert Ramsay, will have you not only playing as a friendly feline, but you’ll be prowling through dynamic environments both above and below ground, while also completing tasks and interacting with other characters. So yes this is one game that if it gets finished, may well be a big hit with the C64 community.

Here’s the latest from the website. “A game where you play as a cat just walking through the city streets looking for adventure, interacting with the locals, getting into situations and just trying to find his way home. This game will be a nod to the 4:1 isometric ration rarely seen on C64, have full bespoke bitmaps, handcrafted in Backdrop designer and McDraw, and finally, will have fully animated sprites with 8-way directional control created in Spred64”.

I never played Voxelgram 1, so I cannot speak to its quality. Voxelgram 2, however, is quality! Voxelgrams are picross in 3d. You have a solid block, you must chip away and paint blocks one of two colors to form an object. The idea is not new. There was Picross 3D for the DS in 2010, and I played that. So I generally know how to work these puzzles. They start off small and get bigger and bigger. 250 puzzles divided in about 30 dioramas, like a kitchen or a seascape, or a laboratory. Each object in the diorama is an object in it. And if you own the original voxelgram, you get the original puzzles reworked for the rules of Voxelgram 2.

The boxes with tiny numbers mean there are spaces in between the big number of blocks.

In some ways, I find the puzzles in Voxelgram 2 both easier and harder than regular picross. I find them easier because I’m good at visualizing in 3d dimensions, harder because some puzzles make my brain hurt as a result. What is not good here are the controls. The main form of control is you have to maneuver via the sticks and buttons. You can move in and out of a voxelgram via ZR and ZR and rotate with R stick. Everything is a relative to the side you are facing, and often time you’ll be seeing inside rows with no rhyme or reason. The touchscreen controls are better, so I highly suggest you use them but they aren’t great either.

Controls aside, I liked Voxelgram 2. Its a nice puzzler that will tax your brain at times. Plus, if you run out of diorama puzzles, you can do randomly generated ones as well. This gets a recommended with an 8 score.

Overall: Voxelgram 2 is a fun puzzle game that’ll test your visualization skills. Too bad the controls could be a lot better.

Verdict: Recommended

Hollow Knight: Silksong offers various skills that help Hornet perform unique abilities. The skills play a crucial role in strengthening the Hornet, enabling her to outperform her opponents. One of the earliest skills that players can get is the Silkspear. As the name suggests, it is a ranged attack skill that allows Hornet to shoot the spear at a distance. This helps in both combat and traversing the world. In this guide, we will tell you how to get the Silkspear Skill in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

How to Get Silkspear Skill in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Silkspear Skill is located at the shrine on top of the Bone Bottom area. It is one of the early areas in the adventure where you will meet a few NPCs. The journey to the shrine at the top can be confusing, as there will be a lot of other paths to follow. However, if you have found Shakra, the singing NPC that sells Maps, a compass, and other useful tools, you are not that far from the shrine.

TIP: Purchase the Map and Compass from Shakra to always locate your position. The enemies in Mosshome (the area next to Shakra) drop Rosaries on defeat. Farm the enemies in Mosshome to farm Rosaries and purchase the maps and other useful tools.

Journey to the Shrine on Top of Bone Bottom Area

From Shakra’s location, head left and up through the passage. Continue left to reach the Mosshome. Jump on the platform and continue going left. Be aware of the enemies that spew projectiles. On the last platform, you will see a handle, attack it, and then head up and go through the passage above. Continue along the path and don’t slow down; otherwise, you will get trapped. Keep on going until you see a web or silk blocking a way. Head up from here and continue to the left side to reach the shrine.

Once at the shrine, inspect it by pressing Up on the D-Pad, then press the Bind button. You will get the Silkspear Skill.

How to Use the Silkspear Skill in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Press the RB/R1 button to use the Silkspear Skill. It will cost a certain amount of Silk upon usage. Use it to shoot the spear at a distance to take down enemies or hit items/targets. Charge the Silk by attacking the regular enemies. Moreover, with the Silkspear Skill available, you will be able to cut through the silk/web blocking the path. It means you can now fight the Bell Beast (Boss) in the Marrow area.

Is NHL 26 on Game Pass?
