Skate Wants You To Pay For The Downgrade Of A Free 15-Year Old Item

Skate Wants You To Pay For The Downgrade Of A Free 15-Year Old Item

It was a long time coming for a new Skate game, and our feelings are a little mixed.

On the one hand, it’s a live service game that comes with all the trappings of the live service genre. On the other hand, it left us cautiously optimistic about the game’s future. After all, this is still Early Access, and there’s plenty that EA can change.

Ultimately, here’s where we stand right now:

All in all, if you love the series and just want a way to get back to shredding on modern systems, this new Skate game will scratch that itch.

With that being said, let’s take a look at how the live service aspect is progressing.

Oh, well, that’s not good.

So here’s a quick rundown of things. In Skate 3, there was a really good Dead Space skin that was not only free but looked way better than what’s currently available today.

Yes, you might be saying that Skate is a freemium live service game, but I’ll counter that with the fact that paying over $40 for a skin, regardless of whether or not it used to be free, is absolutely insane.

Skate’s Overpriced Dead Space Skin Is The Latest In An Unfortunate Trend

To make matters worse, the downright absurd pricing structure is just the latest in an ever growing trend of trying to squeeze money out of our pockets.

Last week came the news that Xbox Game Pass was jacking up its prices by 50%. Oh, and don’t forget the fact that EA was recently acquired by a group led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund for $55 billion.

As you could imagine, people aren’t happy. “It’s not even his Metal RIG either, this is literally just slop cosplay with cardboard and tape. Who thought this was a good idea?” said one fan.

The original poster said it best: “People will be defending the multibillion dollar companies with that shtick until the end of time.”

So it begs the question: what would you like to spend your $40ish on: a bad skin for Skate, or, I don’t know, Expedition 33, which has sold over 5 million copies and will see a free content update. Or perhaps you’d be more inclined to support two incredible indie studios with Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2.

Or you could do what I’ve been doing recently: playing Megabonk and eating Pad Thai from a local restaurant. That’s certainly $40 better spent, especially since the game froze up on me when I was trying to grab in-game screenshots for this article.

Jump back into Winnie’s Hole with a fresh and expanded demo for this unique genre-blending roguelite

Jump back into Winnie’s Hole with a fresh and expanded demo for this unique genre-blending roguelite

Oh bother! The virus has returned in the refreshed and expanded demo for the roguelite Winnie’s Hole the viral dungeon crawling roguelite. Yes, it’s a name you can make many crude jokes about but I’ll try not to.

What exactly is it? You control a virus inside poor Winnie. Explore cells and influence Winnie’s adventure as you spread a virus through his randomly generated innards. And, enter Winnie’s brain for combo-driven combat and watch as Winnie mutates over time into something horrific. It’s definitely different, I’ll give ’em that.

There’s a new trailer too:

For the upgraded demo they’ve included new mutations and perks, level generation improvements, an overhaul of the progression, controller support, improved visuals and much more.

Game Features:

Evolve with each run – Unlock new Perks, Mutations and Virus Strains.
Mutate your host as a symbiotic virus.
Bodybuilding in the worst way.
A storybook narrative which reimagines Winnie in a world of dark science.
A fresh take on exploration, replacing the typical roguelite node map with strategic, turn-based building using a set of tetromino-like virus blocks which you can evolve and reshape.
Dynamic battle system where each turn is an action combo for fast-paced gameplay.
Holesome horror comedy with gritty art inspired by old school Nickelodeon and Brothers’ Grimm fairytales.

I was quite impressed with the previous version of the demo, so I look forward to getting back into Winnie’s Hole.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 just topped 5 million players with massive free DLC coming as a ‘thank you’ | TheSixthAxis

One of the most welcome surprises of the last six months was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This turn-based RPG, managed to out-JRPG the Japanese, with French team Sandfall Interactive putting together an exquisitely-crafted turn-based adventure with the kind of production values and storytelling normally reserved for Square Enix and Final Fantasy. It’s fair to say that it hit home with plenty of players too, and the team have just announced the incredible milestone of 5 million players, worldwide, who’ve set out on that thirty-third expedition. As a ‘thank you’ to all those players, Sandfall Interactive have announced today that they’ll be releasing a massive new DLC package, bringing new areas, content and brand-new boss battles to the game.

As one of the best games of the year, it’s such good news that we’re going to be getting even more Clair Obscur, especially when it’s not just the game that’s been a massive hit, with the orechestral soundtrack racking up a huge 333 million listens as well! We loved it here at TSA Towers, and Gamoc scored it an insane 10/10, saying “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a beautiful experience that excels in almost every area – the combat and character skill customisation is some of the most intricate I’ve seen, the storyline is routinely surprising and emotional, characterisation and performances are immaculate, and it both looks and sounds absolutely stunning all the time. It’s a stunning accomplishment for Sandfall Interactive’s first game, and with a core team of around 30 (with outsourced help). It’s sure to be in contention for Game of the Year awards, and anyone not playing it is seriously missing out.”

A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover.
Challenging, new boss battles for late-game players to overcome.
New costumes for each member of the Expedition, giving even more customization options for players throughout their adventure.
New text and UI game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.
Plus, even more surprises fans can look forward to!

“The response to our game has been nothing short of incredible,” says Guillaume Broche, Creative Director of Expedition 33 at Sandfall Interactive. “We spent years working on our dream project, and to know it has resonated with fans around the world in such a powerful way is both wonderful and overwhelming. We’re so grateful to our fans for their love of the world we created, for sharing their own fan art and music covers, for wearing their best Baguette cosplays to conventions, and for being incredibly supportive of our game. We hope the update we’re working on will act as a ‘thank you’ to those fans for their support – please be patient while our team work hard on bringing you something worth the wait.”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available now for PS5, Xbox Series consoles and PC. If you hurry, it’s currently on offer on PS5 too, bringing its price in line with the PC version.

One-Punch Man season 3 global release date and streaming platforms revealed

Saitama’s power can’t be contained by one streaming service

Sign in to your Polygon account

Six years after the release of One-Punch Man season 2, Variety reports that the third season of the hit superhero parody anime will finally be available to stream across several global platforms on Oct. 12.

The new season, which will focus on an all-out fight between the Hero Association and the Monster Association, will be available to watch on Hulu in the U.S. Disney Plus will be absorbing Hulu next year, and the service will be the home for One-Punch Man in Canada. Crunchyroll has the show in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania, and One-Punch Man will also be streaming on Netflix in Oceania and Latin America. Such a takeover of all the major streaming platforms could only be accomplished by Saitama.

Viz Media is responsible for the huge global rollout, having previously handled the anime’s U.S. debut on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in 2016 and the launch of its second season on the Cartoon Network in 2019. One-Punch Man is one of the best-selling manga series of all time, and season 3 faces very big expectations after a long wait and a lackluster season 2, produced by J.C. Staff, which took over from Madhouse.

With J.C. Staff returning for season 3, fans will be scrutinizing this more than ever, hoping the show can deliver on the big action as Saitama confronts the hero hunter Garou, while the S-Class heroes face the powerful Executives of the Monster Association.

Skate Is Pulling In Players And Money, Despite Mixed Reactions

Skate Is Pulling In Players And Money, Despite Mixed Reactions

Three weeks into its Early Access release, the new Skate game seems to be doing extremely well, despite a very divided audience.

Officially, Skate has apparently brought in 15 million players so far across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Of course, it is a free-to-play title, so there’s no barrier to entry. But a lot of those folks seem to be sticking around, based on the Steam numbers. According to SteamDB, it’s been drawing 50-70,000 concurrent players per day over the last week, putting it 12th in terms of daily active users.

But are any of those people spending money? Alinea Analytics is claiming to have the numbers, stating that Skate has brought in around $3 million in revenue so far. That amounts to an average of $0.20 per player. As in most cases for a free-to-play title, though, it’s far more likely that a small percentage of the players make up the majority of the cash.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the game fares in the future. Opinions are divided right now, with OG Skate players loving the gameplay but struggling to accept the squeaky clean visuals and the overall corporate vibes difficult to accept. Newcomers seem to be enjoying it far more as just a fun hangout game.

Personally, I’m in the middle of writing up some impressions, but to keep it short and simple, I mostly fun into the first camp. I’ve got a lot of hours in the original games under my belt, and while I’m loving the actual skating, almost everything else is annoying me. The lack of an offline mode, the Fortnite visuals, the AI companion, the characters and almost everything else about the presentation feels like the anithesis of everything Skate. It’s a difficult hurdle to ollie. The only way I can accept it is to frame it as not really being a new Skate game, and viewing it as its own thing.

The game’s first season is going to fire up soon, so that’ll be the first glimpse at what the free-to-play model for the game is going to be moving forward.

Official Skyrim And Fallout Building Sets Drop To Lowest Prices Yet

Official Skyrim And Fallout Building Sets Drop To Lowest Prices Yet

Mega’s 619-piece Skyrim building set is quite impressive considering the budget-friendly price. Alduin has an appropriately intimidating wingspan of 25.5 inches. Though this is a brick-building set, Mega utilized cloth for the wings, which gives it a more realistic appearance.

Alduin is essentially a buildable action figure with articulated joints. You can open Alduin’s mouth to make it look like he’s using Fire or Frost Breath, adjust his legs, and twist his wings to make it appear as if the god-king is about to take flight. The buildable flight stand has an adjustable lever that helps create additional poses. A Skyrim logo plaque attaches to the front of the stand.

Alduin was the ruler of Skyrim throughout the Merethic Era. The legendary dragon has multiple nicknames, but Mega opted to go with Alduin’s best-known “World Eater” moniker.

The set also comes with a Dragonborn figure that is fittingly small in comparison. That said, the player-character figure is fairly detailed in its own right. Dovah-Kiin comes with multiple removable accessories, including the signature helmet from Skyrim, a sword, and chest armor.

Dyson V11 Origin Cordless Vacuum Just Dropped Below the Older V8 Pricing for Amazon Prime Day – Kotaku

We’re under a week out from Prime Big Deals Day. This is Amazon’s two-day sales event where you’ll be able to find steep discounts on products across every category — tech, home goods, automotive, you name it. Despite the even not starting until Tuesday, October 7, you can already start finding some great deals right now. The Dyson V11 Origin cordless vacuum has dropped to $400 for Prime users. The stick vacuum normally goes for $630 so you’d be saving a full $230. That’s a 37% discount and it’s not even Prime Big Deals Day yet.

Convenience is really prime selling point for a cordless stick vacuum and the Dyson V11 is no exception. This vacuum is easy to move around throughout the home. It’s both lightweight and ergonomic so you can pick it up and clean up high up hard to reach places with ease. Transform the vacuum into a handheld, making it ever easier to maneuver while still not losing any power. That makes it a perfect tool for taking care of the interior of your car before before the next time it’s your turn to drive the friend group.

Remove Pet Hair From Your Home

Pet owners wouldn’t give up our furry little friends for the world, but we could sure do without all the hair that falls off of them. It digs into the carpet and can retain that very distinct odor that makes guests who walk in for the first time go, “hey do you have a dog?” Well, the Dyson V11 stick vacuum can help keep your couches and carpets free of fur. The vac comes with a hair screw tool, conical in shape, which can help get hair detangled while you’re going about cleaning your home. The Motorbar cleaner can automatically clear any hair that’s gotten wrapped up around the brush bar.

The vacuum is cordless, so it’s running off of a battery. That battery can last you approximately 100 minutes on a single charge. That’s roughly an hour longer than the Dyson V8 can hold up, which is a lot after considering that the V11’s motor spins at 125,000rpm and generates 60% more power than the V8. When the vacuum is not in use, it can be neatly stored against the wall dock, recharging it on its own while its been put away. The LCD screen atop the vacuum shows you exactly how much battery life you have left so you won’t have any unexpected stops while vacuuming because your forgot to charge.

EA promises largest ever post-launch content for Battlefield 6, teases naval combat, and maybe even the return of the Little Bird

EA promises largest ever post-launch content for Battlefield 6, teases naval combat, and maybe even the return of the Little Bird

We’re mere days away now from the launch of one of the most-anticipated games of 2025. Battlefield 6 arrives this Friday to (hopefully) satiate excitement from longtime series fans, and anyone who checked out its wildly successful beta.

And to offer prospective buyers some assurance that the game is going to have a long tail, EA has started talking about what players can expect in the months following launch.

Manage cookie settings

The game’s first season was recently revealed to much praise from fans, and it arrives pretty quickly, too, just 18 days after launch. But there’s a lot more beyond that, which Battlefield Studios has officially started teasing.

In the latest Community Update, the developer mainly touched on data from the beta, as well as the various Battlefield Labs tests held before and since. After over 30 sessions and over 92 million hours of beta gameplay, the developer found that class pick rates were varied and had a healthy spread.

Whichever class was more popular essentially depended on the map, with more close-quarters maps favouring Support, and maps with longer ranges going towards Recon. Interestingly, Open and Closed Weapons playlists had barely any difference on class pick rates between them.

Another thing that the two playlists didn’t affect is kills per hour, though they saw a small variance in match length, with Closed Weapons playlists having slightly higher match durations.

Closed Weapons playlists also saw a 3% higher revive rate in Breakthrough, and 2% for Conquest, meaning players stuck to their roles regardless of the weapons they were using. In terms of time spent in combat, both playlists had about the same percentage.

Perhaps the most unsurprising reveal from the blog post, however, is that most players picked the weapons they wanted in Open Weapon playlists, rather than sticking with their class’ Signature Weapons and benefiting from the bonus that comes with that. Except for Recon players, who favoured sniper rifles regardless of playlist.

That said, the developer revealed that there was no dominant weapon archetype, which is a little surprising considering the versatility of some over others. Indeed, that is one thing that will undoubtedly change as the game evolves at launch and beyond.

It also sounds like players didn’t see the value of Open vs Closed Weapons playlists, as “the vast majority of players” stuck with the former after trying the latter. This is misleading, as Closed playlists were buried deeper in the menus and you had to know they a) existed, and b) where to find them.

Regardless, both playlist options will be in the launch build, and Closed Weapons will itself remain a modifier in Portal for custom experiences.

Watch on YouTube

Looking to the future, the developer said that Battlefield 6’s seasons “will have more content than ever before in a Battlefield game,” which is quite the claim. More details will apparently be revealed soon.

Finally, the post teased the return of naval warfare, as well as the Little Bird helicopter – two highly-requested additions that are strangely missing from the launch package. Platoons, essentially Battlefield’s clans feature, was also teased.

You can check out the full blog post at the link at the top for a recap of what the game’s day one patch is going to change. The Battlefield 6 pre-load is now available across all platforms, with the game to go live on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Monster Couch Unites Acclaimed Digital Board Games in New Birds and Cats Xbox Bundle | TheXboxHub
Birds and Cats Bundle – now on Xbox

When it comes to crafting exceptional digital board game experiences on Xbox, few do it with the same level of care and polish as Monster Couch. Today, they are celebrating two of their most beloved titles with the launch of the Birds and Cats bundle, a new collection that brings together the worlds of cozy crafting and strategic ornithology.

Available right now on the Xbox Store, the Birds and Cats bundle arrives in two distinct editions, offering players a choice in how deep they wish to dive into these celebrated tabletop worlds. But what exactly makes this pairing so special? It’s a showcase of a developer at the top of their game.

The Award-Winning Aviary: Wingspan

Leading the charge is the phenomenal Wingspan. This game sees you take on the role of a bird enthusiast, seeking to attract the best and most beautiful birds to your wildlife preserve. It’s a game of powerful combinations and elegant engine-building that captured our hearts and minds completely.

In our 4.5/5 review of Wingspan, we were utterly smitten, calling it an “elegant, exceptional board game” that was “delivered with real care to the Xbox.”

We even dared to suggest that the digital version, by automating some of the more unwieldy tabletop elements, might just be the “superior way to play.” And yes, we were so taken that we not only played it on Xbox, but PC via Steam and PlayStation too. Frankly, we cannot get enough of it.

The Purrfect Puzzler: Quilts and Cats of Calico

Complementing the strategic depth of Wingspan is the wholesome charm of Quilts and Cats of Calico. This is a cozy puzzler where your main task is to sew a beautiful quilt from patterned scraps. By combining colours and patterns smartly, you’ll score points, attach buttons, and, most importantly, attract a delightful clowder of cats to come and nap on your creation.

When it first launched, our news piece on Quilts and Cats of Calico highlighted its “purrfect patchwork” appeal and its warm world full of cuddly, customisable feline friends. It’s a relaxing yet deeply strategic experience that offers a perfect counterpoint to the gameplay of Wingspan.

Choose Your Collection: Standard or Special Edition?

Monster Couch has provided two options for players to get in on this action, depending on how complete an experience they’re looking for.

Birds and Cats – Standard Edition (£27.19) – This is the core package. It includes the full base game of the critically acclaimed Wingspan and the full base game of the charming Quilts and Cats of Calico. With both games costing £15.99 individually, this bundle offers a tidy saving for anyone looking to own both core experiences.

Birds and Cats – Special Edition (£59.99) – This is the definitive, all-in collection. It contains both base games plus all the currently available DLC expansions for Wingspan. If you’re a newcomer who wants the most complete ornithological experience from day one, or a die-hard fan looking to grab everything, this is the edition for you.

Whether you’re drawn to the strategic elegance of building the perfect aviary or the cozy satisfaction of crafting a cat-covered quilt, Monster Couch has curated a package that celebrates the best of digital tabletop gaming. Given the phenomenal quality of Wingspan alone, this bundle represents fantastic value for anyone yet to sample these two modern classics.

Both the Birds and Cats and the Birds and Cats Special Edition bundles are available to purchase on the Xbox Store right now.

Leaker insists Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster “exists” as anniversary looms

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you’re reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here

Leaks and rumors about a Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster/current-gen upgrade/Switch 2 launch continue to persist, and a reliable leaker has stressed that the upgrade “exists” just as the game’s anniversary is imminent. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest video games of all time, let alone arguably Rockstar’s magnum opus. Fans of Rockstar are naturally hoping that GTA 6 will usurp RDR2 when it comes out next year, but it will be a hard feat to achieve as everything about the western epic is perfect. Years later the game still looks drop-dead gorgeous, and it will look even better soon provided leaks and rumors about a remaster are accurate.

Red Redemption 2 remaster “exists” with anniversary imminent

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be celebrating its seventh anniversary on October 26th. This is the release date RDR2 came out for PS4 and Xbox One back in 2018, meanwhile, it didn’t come out on PC until a year later on November 5th, 2019. Here’s hoping we’re looking at such a quick turnaround for the release of GTA 6 on PC.

Earlier this year, there were rumors about a remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as a current-gen port of GTA 4. We haven’t heard anything about GTA 4 since the rumors first floated, but reliable leaker, NateTheHate, has been insistent that a current-gen version of RDR2 is coming and that the game will also release on Switch 2.

There is no official announcement from Rockstar, but, on October 6th, NateTheHate confirmed “Yes, they exist” in response to videotechuk_ asking “Are you absolutely certain with full confidence RDR2 Switch 2/Gen 9 updates exist?”.

In addition to NateTheHate stressing “they exist,” there has also reportedly been updates to RDRD2 on Steam and the Epic Games store. These updates seem minimal, but they could be hinting at something on the way. However, it’s NateTheHate’s confidence that is most telling as they have been extremely accurate in the past about the Oblivion remaster shadowdrop and Microsoft Flight Simulator for the PS5.

NateTheHate has never suggested a release date as the leaker has always stressed they don’t know when the RDR2 remaster will drop. October 26th is the game’s seventh anniversary, but it’s an unlikely release date as this year it falls on Sunday. It’s possible the remaster/current-gen upgrade could come out the week of October 26th, but this is just purely speculation. All we hope is that the game comes out this month because it’s the anniversary and, if it doesn’t materialize, it may never as Rockstar should be pushing ahead with marketing for GTA 6 come the end of the year.
