Why Cobra Kai Moved From YouTube To Netflix In Season 3 – SlashFilm

Why Cobra Kai Moved From YouTube To Netflix In Season 3 – SlashFilm

Who would have thought “Cobra Kai,” now approaching its sixth and final season, would’ve become the massive Netflix hit it is today? What makes this scenario even more interesting is the fact that the “Karate Kid” spin-off show didn’t even start out as a Netflix series. For our initial reunion with Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), “Cobra Kai” debuted on YouTube’s subscription service, YouTube Red in 2018 and then returned for a second season in 2019. The show that carried on the story of these rivals stretched its legs for high-kicking, fist-throwing action and became one of the streamer’s biggest successes. So much so that YouTube signed off on a third season before the video website changed its business strategy and shelved the show in the process.

While “Cobra Kai” might’ve been out of action at the time, a bidding war quickly began among streaming services — with Netflix eventually winning out in the end. Getting this creative nudge and Netflix upgrade revived the creators’ initial plans of playing around with the idea of stretching the world of “Cobra Kai” beyond the reach of Johnny and Danny’s testing friendship.

Cobra Kai creators have always had spin-off ideas even before the Netflix move

In a 2020 interview with /Film discussing future possibilities for the series, “Cobra Kai” creator Jon Hurwitz admitted that even before the third season made its arrival, ideas were formulating for a spin-off to the show that was becoming a hit. “We have put thought into spin-off ideas,” Hurwitz said. “We love just ‘The Karate Kid’ universe, love all the characters from back in the day and we love the characters we’ve created. It’s hard for me to give you an exact answer to this, but what I can say is that we have a list of at least five different scenarios that we would pursue, that we could consider.”

Flash forward to 2024, and season 6 perfectly sets up a spin-off for a beloved “Karate Kid” character by digitally resurrecting Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) and making his past a focus point in the show. His brief appearance in the final season opened up interesting possibilities for the future — possibilities which the show’s creators teased to The Hollywood Reporter. “Now that we’re done, we can actually start getting into this stuff,” said co-creator Hayden Schlossberg. “We’ve just been focused on ‘Cobra Kai’ and finishing it off. And right now, we’re in the process of editing the last couple episodes. Once that’s done, we’ll hopefully have some exciting things …”

And none of this would be possible if Netflix hadn’t swooped in and saved the show.

Legend in the Mist Voted Most Anticipated RPG of 2025 – TGN – Tabletop Gaming News

Son of Oak Game Studio’s Legend in the Mist has been named the Most Anticipated Tabletop Roleplaying Game of 2025 in EN World’s annual survey. The upcoming RPG received more votes than other high-profile projects, including Daggerheart by Critical Role, Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG, MCDM’s Draw Steel, and Modiphius’ Discworld adaptation. The results were announced last Friday, concluding the final weeks of voting in 2024.

Legend in the Mist is the first fantasy RPG to use Son of Oak’s Mist Engine, which replaces traditional stats with a keyword-based system for action resolution. The game raised $855,000 during its Kickstarter campaign in early 2024 and combines its game mechanics with a focus on nostalgic fantasy storytelling. The game is visually defined by artwork from illustrator Daniel Pinal and draws inspiration from sources like The Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, and Princess Mononoke.

The game system allows players to integrate character backstories, personality traits, and motivations directly into gameplay, offering an alternative to traditional systems focused on attributes and skills. Features such as variable power levels for party members, support for various magic systems, and options for tactical gameplay are also part of the system. The Legend in the Mist Corebook is designed to support a variety of settings and themes, with a focus on rural and pastoral elements. A companion book, Hearts of Ravensdale, provides a setting and ready-to-play adventures.

Son of Oak has announced that backers will begin receiving digital copies of game content starting January 31, 2025, beginning with player rules and an introductory comic.

The game is scheduled for a digital release in Spring 2025, with a print version following in Summer 2025. Pre-orders are currently available through the Son of Oak webstore.

The Sonic Movies Have Now Made Over A Billion Dollars

    Image: Paramount / Sega

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hit theaters late last month and has already grossed more than $300 million worldwide, pushing the film series based on Sega’s popular video games past the one-billion mark and making it one of Paramount’s biggest ongoing franchises.

On January 5, Paramount Pictures put out a press release confirming that the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise has now made over $1 billion at the box office. That means it’s made more than Halloween, Paranormal Activity, and A Quiet Place.

For Paramount, Sonic has become a very important franchise at a time when the studio has struggled to squeeze massive blockbusters out of past winners, like Transformers and Star Trek. So it’s not shocking that as Sonic crosses the 1-billion-dollar mark, Paramount is already working on a sequel. The next movie is reportedly arriving in 2027.

“The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has become an unstoppable cultural force with limitless potential,” said Paramount Pictures President & CEO Brian Robbins. “Congratulations to our partners at SEGA, our filmmaking team…who have revolutionized the heights that Sonic can reach, and the legions of loyal and devoted fans who have helped guide us every step of the way.”

It feels like a lifetime ago when the first Sonic the Hedgehog film teaser hit the web and we all got to see that original, ugly CG Sonic that was so monstrous, fans backlashed hard enough to force Paramount and Sega to change the character’s look into something less awful. That first film ended up making $319 million at the box office.

In 2022, Sonic 2 hit theaters, receiving better reviews and making over $400 million. There was a Knuckles spin-off TV show in early 2024, but nobody talks about that. Then finally, in December, Paramount released Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is one of the highest-rated video game movies in history and has already made more money than the first film in just about two weeks. Pretty good for a hedgehog that runs really fast.

12 Impressive Celebrity Watches That Stand the Test of Time

In the ever-changing world of luxury and fashion, few accessories carry as much cultural weight as a fine timepiece. Beyond their practical function, watches have long served as symbols of status, taste, and personal style.

When worn by famous people, these mechanical masterpieces often transcend their original purpose to become cultural touchstones, influencing generations of watch enthusiasts and fashion aficionados alike. From Hollywood’s golden age to modern-day icons, certain celebrity watches have achieved legendary status, their appeal undimmed by the passage of time.

These timepieces don’t just tell time – they tell stories of achievement, innovation, and enduring style.

When it comes to luxury watches, celebrities have long been trendsetters. But some timepieces have transcended fleeting fashion to become genuine horological icons.

Here are some of the best celebrity-worn watches or their modern day equivalents, that have maintained their status as symbols of excellence and style through the decades.

    1. Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona

The watch that sparked a collecting revolution, Paul Newman’s personal Rolex Daytona became the most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction in 2017: $17,752,500.

The “Paul Newman” Daytona variant, characterized by its distinctive art deco-style numerals and contrasting subdials, remains one of the most coveted vintage watches in existence.

Newman wore his Rolex watch faithfully for decades, both on and off screen.

    2. Steve McQueen’s TAG Heuer Monaco

First worn by McQueen in the 1971 film “Le Mans,” the square-cased Monaco revolutionized watch design. The actor’s choice of this avant-garde chronograph helped establish TAG Heuer’s racing credentials and created an enduring association between the brand and motorsports.

    3. Grace Kelly’s Rolex Lady-Datejust

Before and after becoming Princess Grace of Monaco, Kelly’s elegant Rolex Lady-Datejust exemplified refined femininity. The water-resistant yellow gold watch became a symbol of sophisticated women’s timepieces and helped establish the Lady-Datejust as Rolex’s signature women’s watch.

Its classic design continues to influence modern women’s watchmaking. The Datejust was introduced in 1945, while the Lady-Datejust launched in 1957.

The name comes from the watch’s certifiably accurate date display. Grace Kelly’s watch is a 26 mm, however the bracelet is available in 24 – 34 mm.

Given to him by Jackie Kennedy in 1960, JFK’s elegant Omega dress watch epitomized mid-century refinement. The gold plated watch gained additional historical significance when Kennedy wore it during his presidential inauguration.

The piece, also known as an Omega Ultra-Thin, perfectly captured both Kennedy’s sophisticated style and the optimistic spirit of the New Frontier era. It featured an 18ct gold casing, silver dial and glossy black leather strap.

Diana’s Cartier Tank Louis, which she wore frequently throughout the 1980s and ’90s, became a symbol of her chic style. With a yellow gold case and black alligator strap, the watch is thought to have been a gift from her Father, the 8th Earl Spencer.

Diana also owned a yellow gold Cartier Tank Française watch, which was inherited by her sons upon her untimely passing. Harry gave this priceless heirloom to his wife, Meghan Markle.

The King’s futuristic, shield-shaped Hamilton Ventura became as much a part of his iconic look as blue suede shoes. Worn in “Blue Hawaii” and numerous public appearances, Elvis helped establish the Ventura as a trendsetting watch.

Introduced in 1957 as the world’s first electric watch in serial production, the Ventura was the brainchild of car designer Richard Arbib. Its distinctive appearance continues to influence Hamilton’s modern collections.

The snake-shaped bracelet watch, with its coiled design and jeweled embellishments, represented the height of Italian glamour and helped establish Bulgari as a major force in luxury watchmaking.

This unique watch was originally rumored to be a gift from her lover Richard Burton. However, it is now thought to have been a gift from the producers of Cleopatra.

There are many versions of the Bulgari Serpenti watch, including the one below. They all integrate the wind-around the arm style of the original design.

The legendary jazz trumpeter was rarely seen without his Breitling Navitimer 806 Reverse Panda. This complex chronograph was beloved by aviation enthusiasts and racing car drivers like Graham Hill.

Davis’s association with this technically sophisticated timepiece helped establish it as a favorite among musicians and creative professionals, a status it maintains today. He had a customized leather bund strap made to hold the watch firmly in place while he was playing.

Though famous for his simple lifestyle, Mahatma Gandhi owned a silver Zenith pocket watch that he used to maintain his strict daily schedule. It was a gift from the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Swiss pocket watch was stolen from Gandhi during a train ride to Kanpur. The thief was filled with remorse and returned it to him later the same year.

The watch’s survival and eventual auction highlighted how even the simplest timepieces can acquire immense historical and cultural significance. It was sold with his sandals, glasses and crockery for USD $2,096,000 in 2009. Very few photos of this iconic timepiece exist.

    12. The Jackal’s Omega Seamaster Railmaster

Fans of the hit TV series “The Day of the Jackal”, based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth, will have noticed the lead character’s stylish chronograph watch. Eddie Redmayne, starring as The Jackal, sports an Omega Seamaster Railmaster in several scenes.

Originally introduced in 1957, the Railmaster was engineered for scientists, technicians, and railway workers who needed a timepiece resistant to magnetic fields. Its anti magnetic properties, achieved through a special inner case, made it a pioneer in professional watches.

The Railmaster’s understated design and technical innovation have made it a favorite among collectors and professionals who appreciate its combination of utility and elegance. Redmayne is an Omega ambassador in real life, and he also wears a few other Omega watches in the series, including an Aqua Terra and an Omega Globemaster.

South Korea’s Largest Island to Issue NFT Travel Cards to Boost Tourism – Cryptoflies News

    13

Jeju Island, South Korea’s largest island, plans to introduce non-fungible token (NFT) cards to attract younger tourists.

The initiative, announced in a local report, targets the MZ generation, which includes Millennials and Generation Z.

The NFT cards, set to launch in the second half of this year, will offer various perks for visitors. These include travel subsidies, memberships, and discounts at tourist attractions.

Users will also be able to document their visit details — such as location, time, photos, and videos — on a related platform.

Although specifics about the project, including the blockchain to be used, remain unclear, the move is part of a broader trend in Asia leveraging NFTs for tourism. This follows new guidelines introduced by South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) in June to regulate NFTs.

Coronation Street: As Mason dies, here’s everything that happens next from Abi trauma resurfacing to heartbreak for the Swains

In a harrowing episode of Coronation Street tonight, reformed school bully Mason was killed in a vicious knife attack. This came as Mason prepared to leave Weatherfield on his own terms – having being set up with a job in Germany by Stu.

Mason bid farewell to his few loved ones on the street – including Betsy, who he’s grown close to in recent months – while clashing with Abi and attempting to apologise to former victim Liam.

The Ratcliffe brothers killed Mason in Coronation Street tonight

Unfortunately, Mason’s happy ending was cut brutally short after a run-in with his brothers. Dylan attempted to intervene by pulling a knife. However, this only made the situation worse, as the brothers then used it to stab Mason.

After imagining his escape from Weatherfield (including a coffee date with Betsy, and some understanding words from Liam),  reality hit home. The soap then revealed the extent of Mason’s injuries. A horrified Abi found him in the playground nearby, bleeding out.

Paramedics then rushed Mason to hospital. However, attempts to save his life were unsuccessful, and Mason died in front of a traumatised Abi and Betsy.

Mason is dead – but what’s next for those around him?

Mason is dead – what’s next?

First on the scene as Mason lay dying was Abi. Mason’s death will come as a painful reminder for Abi, whose own son died in similar circumstances in 2021.

Earlier that day, Abi had clashed with Mason after finding him attempting to steal flowers from Seb’s memorial garden. Seb had been killed during an unprovoked gang attack while walking with then-girlfriend Nina Lucas.

And, as Mason’s death leaves Abi shell-shocked, the following weeks will find her struggling with painful memories of Seb’s tragic death.

Betsy and Lisa face fresh heartbreak as Mason dies in Coronation Street

Meanwhile, Mason’s sudden death will leave Betsy heartbroken. With the pair not exactly parting on the best of terms (in spite of Mason’s dying dreams otherwise), Betsy is full of grief and regret.

Mum Lisa will be full of worry. Especially given that the Ratcliffe brothers had been in police custody only hours before they killed Mason. What does this, combined with the Ratcliffes’ history with the Swains, mean for the family?

      Dylan struggles with his guilt

It had been Dylan who first brandished the fateful knife which killed Mason. Choosing not to tell Sean about his part in Mason’s death, Dylan will be eaten up with guilt and regret in the coming weeks.

Will he come clean about what really happened?
