This week, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee plans to vote on a bipartisan bill aimed at regulating stablecoins and enhancing consumer protection. 

Introduced by Senators Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Tim Scott (R-SC), the GENIUS Act seeks to clarify the regulatory framework for stablecoins in the U.S., with provisions addressing reserve requirements, audits, transparency, and licensing for issuers.

If passed Thursday, the legislation would provide a clear path for stablecoin issuers and further advance President Donald Trump’s crypto policies as the U.S. attempts to cement regulatory clarity for the industry.

“From enhancing transaction efficiency to driving demand for U.S. Treasuries, the potential benefits of strong stablecoin innovation are immense,” Sen. Hagerty said in a statement.

“My legislation establishes a safe and pro-growth regulatory framework that will unleash innovation and advance the President’s mission to make America the world capital of crypto,” he said.

The act allows stablecoin issuers to choose federal or state charters based on market cap. It also introduces “reciprocity” agreements, requiring foreign issuers to meet U.S. standards on reserves, anti-money laundering provisions, sanctions compliance, and liquidity.

“The reserve requirements, anti-money laundering requirements, all fall neatly for RLSUD and USDC.,” Jeremy Hogan, partner at law firm Hogan & Hogan, wrote on X on Monday, pointing to issuers Ripple and Circle while echoing sentiment shared by others across the crypto community. 

He added that the bill could require issuers to comply with future orders that may instruct them to “seize, freeze, burn, or prevent the transfer of payment stablecoins” or else block digital assets and accounts with “reasonable particularity.”

That would give U.S. authorities the power to control digital assets within their jurisdiction and places additional operational burdens on existing issuers.

Another of the bill’s most significant provisions is its focus on foreign-issued stablecoins. 

Those provisions could align well with U.S.-based stablecoins, such as Circle’s USDC and Ripple’s RLUSD, which are domiciled in the U.S. and claim to already comply with many of the bill’s requirements. 

This could provide an edge over foreign-based issuers, such as Tether (USDT), the world’s largest stablecoin issuer by market cap, which some argue may struggle to adjust.

Tether, currently based in Bitcoin-friendly El Salvador, has no formal U.S. presence and has traditionally backed its USDT stablecoin with a mix of assets, including Bitcoin, U.S. Treasury bills, and corporate paper. 

Much of Tether’s reserves, particularly its Bitcoin holdings, may not meet the new compliance standards, according to a recent report from JP Morgan.

That could lead Tether to liquidate portions of its Bitcoin reserves to comply with U.S. regulations, a move that could affect its ability to maintain its peg to the U.S. dollar, the report reads.

In a bid to allay those concerns, the company has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer to forge ahead with its plans for a full audit, a long point of contention from observers critical of how the company manages its operations.

It is hoped Simon McWilliams, a seasoned finance executive with over 20 years of experience, will add to Tether’s history of quarterly attestations through auditing firm BDO.

Still, it is not yet clear how swiftly issuers will adjust to the suggested changes, as many have depended on a largely unregulated market to foster adoption and develop their businesses into multi-billion dollar enterprises.

    Every Marvel Character Locked Up In The Raft – SlashFilm







    Aside from the bad guys that have been snapped out of existence or died horrible deaths, some Marvel Cinematic Universe villains have simply ended up finding themselves behind bars. To keep them in check, these menaces to society and superheroes have been sent to The Raft, a supermax prison planted slap bang in the middle of the ocean just by Ryker’s Island. It was first introduced in “Captain America: Civil War,” when those who opposed the Sokovia Accords were bagged and tagged in fancy prison threads, only to be swiftly broken free by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Since then, we’ve seen some real lawbreakers get trapped on that rock with no way off unless someone gives the go-ahead. But the MCU is a big place, and following the events of “Captain America: Brave New World,” the facility is only getting more crowded.

    From failed politicians to maniacal war criminals, The Raft has a fascinating guest list of occupants so far — so much so that we kind of hope a prison break occurs soon, so we can see these ne’er-do-wells back out in the open. If they did escape, it would only mean more chaos, calls for action from their sworn enemies, and further crossing of streams in areas that fans would have never anticipated. For now, let’s take a roll call of who’s currently locked up in The Raft and is unlikely to see land any time soon.

    Thunderbolt Ross

    After his very public, gamma-infused outburst in “Captain America: Brave New World,” Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford) did the noble thing by accepting defeat and acknowledging he’s a danger to the public as an all-new Red Hulk. At the end of the film, we learned he’d willingly given himself up to be imprisoned at The Raft, verifying that while he might have been transformed into a monster, the man underneath knew what decisions needed to be made.

    But while Ross might have a future behind bars, there’s no telling how long it will last. When Red Hulk debuted in print, he was very much a new enemy for Hulk to swing his mighty large fists at before becoming another anti-hero of sorts in the Marvel universe. Besides becoming a part of the team that is named after him (the Thunderbolts), Ross even spent a brief stint as an Avenger. With that in mind, there’s a chance that the best part of “Brave New World” could return, and the man behind the rage monster and former Commander-in-Chief is all for it.

    When asked if he’d be up for stepping back into the split shoes of his monstrous alter-ego again, Ford said (via GamesRadar), “I hope he can come back. I hope [there’s] a story in which he can develop into something other than the Red Hulk. I think we have the capacity to shift shape between Hulkness and humanity, but that’s really not my department.” Here’s hoping Ross’ prison time gets reviewed soon.

    Samuel Sterns

    While Ross might be taking the noble approach by keeping himself away from society, one man who truly deserves to be in the deep, dark hole he’s found himself in is super genius Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson). After orchestrating the entire ordeal that pushed Ross to see red in “Brave New World,” Sterns surrendered, declaring himself the hero in the twisted game he created for himself. In the post-credit scene, it is revealed that Sterns has been sent to The Raft alongside Ross, where he hints at the battles that lie ahead for both Wilson and the rest of the heroes who are set to face a new threat with a familiar face in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

    Even so, being a brilliantly evil intelligence suggests that the only reason Sterns has been sent to The Raft is because he wants to be there. Throughout “Brave New World,” the villain known in the comics as The Leader spends most of the film pulling strings, ensuring that everything goes according to his evil plan. With that in mind, there’s a chance his plan could include his eventual capture and time held up in the correctional facility that’s lost at sea. Might there be a chance that Sterns becomes The Leader of a revolt or breaks free on his own to cause more chaos in the future? With the MCU now the home to three Hulks (and a Sakaarian with Skaar), Sterns could show his enormous head further down the line. Let’s just hope it won’t take another 17 years before he does.

    Baron Zemo

    Perhaps one of the greatest MCU villains is one who also enjoyed a brief moment of freedom after being broken out of prison by two of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Making his entrance and becoming the number one enemy of Wakanda following the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) got a brief bit of fresh air when he was forced to work alongside Sam Wilson and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) during “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

    However, his time back with society was short-lived, because after negotiations with the Dora Milaje, Bucky sent the Baron to The Raft, where he was meant to continue his sentence with no release date on the cards. The initial theory was that the former decorated Sokovian hero would end up leading the “Thunderbolts” as he does in the comics, but as that film approaches release, there has still been no sign of him, which is disappointing, especially since Brühl is eager to bring the character back into the MCU action.

    Speaking to Screen Rant in 2024, Brühl discussed the chance of him returning to the franchise given that Zemo is down but not completely out of the world filled with heroes and villains. “It’s fine for me, I can wait. I’m a very patient man,” the actor said. “And who knows, I mean, I’m still not dead, I’m very confident that I’ll be back.” Well, he might be out of line, but he’s right.

    Diamondback

    Now that “Daredevil: Born Again” looks to clear the murky waters linking the Netflix shows to the MCU, that also includes the other street-level heroes who made up the Defenders and, more importantly, the villains who came with them. In the case of “Luke Cage,” one villain that proved to be an issue was Willis Stryker (Erik LaRay Harvey), who, even after getting an enhanced suit to take on the Power Man of Harlem, ended up being brought down and finding himself in a hotspot for imprisoned supervillains. Revealed to be the half-brother of Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Stryker, aka Diamondback, tried to frame our boy Luke for a series of murders, only for the bulletproof hero to set the record straight and bring Stryker down in the process.

    Unfortunately, like every other character in the Netflix/Marvel run of shows, there’s no confirmation on whether Diamondback would return to the MCU, given that his half-brother who loves a yellow shirt hasn’t been confirmed to be making a comeback either. Be that as it may, all it would take is a swing by a very specific cell in The Raft to confirm that Stryker is waiting to get some payback.

    Trish Walker

    Poor Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor). She’s one of the few inhabitants in The Raft who started out with the best intentions before it all went sideways. After her half-sister Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) was getting all the attention as the super-powered private investigator, Walker tried her hand at giving herself superpowers in the third season of Netflix’s show, “Jessica Jones.” The results didn’t go the way she hoped, though, as Walker took on the alias of Hellcat and quickly stained the name by gaining murderous tendencies and forcing Jones to bring down the last remaining entry of what family she had left.

    By the end of the third season, it’s confirmed that Walker is heading to The Raft to live among the worst of the worst in an isolated area, with no promise of release or a bright future of recovery. Of course, given that Matt Murdock has earned a second chance with Disney+ the other heroes and the characters that surround them could get just as much attention at a later date. For now, though, the Hellcat is well and truly caged until further notice, with no assurance that her rehabilitation will have worked and she won’t go for another round with her dear sister, Jess.

      NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. has released an official statement in response to sexual abuse allegations made against him in an amended lawsuit against embattled rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.

      In an amendment to a lawsuit initially filed in October 2024, plaintiff Ashley Parham accused Beckham Jr and content creator Druski, real name Drew Desbordes, of being among multiple individuals who assaulted her.

      Druski quickly responded to the lawsuit, expressing his disappointment and calling the allegation “a fabricated lie.” Diddy’s legal team also released a statement denying the claims.

      On Monday, Beckham Jr. released a statement on social media reacting to the amended lawsuit that claims he was among those who sexually assaulted Parham.

      “I have been informed of the allegations about me in a suit in CA,” Beckham Jr. began. “I really can’t even believe that my name is mentioned in that matter.”

      The wide receiver said, “There is absolutely no truth to those allegations. I do not know and have never met the person that filed the suit.”

      Beckham Jr. continued, “I was not anywhere near Orinda, CA, at that time. In fact, I don’t think I have ever been to Orinda, CA.”

      He concluded, “I have never done anything like that, and I would never do anything like that to anyone. I’m confident that these ridiculous claims against me will be dismissed.”

      This is not Beckham Jr.’s first reaction to the sexual assault allegations made against him in the amended lawsuit against Diddy.

      He said, “This allegation is a fabricated lie. I wasn’t a public figure in 2018 — I was broke living with my mom without any connections to the entertainment industry at the time of this allegation, so the inclusion of my name is truly outlandish.”

      Druski also said, “My heart breaks for actual victims of abuse, but I’m fully confident that the evidence will expose this falsehood and the individuals who are maliciously trying to game the legal system to peddle false narratives.”

      Beckham Jr. commented on Druski’s statement, writing, “Boy I’ll tell you what. This world makes absolutely no sense. I am covered by God. He will prevail. He will prevail. I (know) who am I, I (know) who (you) are, keep (your) head. That name will be cleared. Sh-t’s stupid.”

      In January, Diddy filed a defamation lawsuit against Ariel Mitchell, the attorney representing Parham.

      Following the amended lawsuit, the music producer’s legal team released a statement expressing disgust.

      They said, “This new complaint – brought by an attorney who has already been sued for defaming Mr. Combs – demonstrates the depraved lengths plaintiffs will travel to garner headlines in pursuit of a payday.”

      The statement continued, “Mr. Combs was nowhere near Orinda, California on the day Ms. Parham claims she was assaulted there, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department has already confirmed Ms. Parham’s claims were determined to be unfounded following a thorough investigation.”

      Diddy’s legal team added, “In an attempt to salvage her claims following the investigation debunking them, Ms. Parham has now invented an even wilder narrative, alleging a vast (and facially implausible) conspiracy between law enforcement, local civilians, and media industry players.”

      They added, “No sane person reading this complaint could credit this story.

      While some discussed Druski and Beckham Jr.’s involvement, others pointed out that the lawsuit appeared to be an official government document.

        Billy continues to hide the truth about Phil’s depression and stay at the mental health unit from Lexi, despite Honey thinking it’s a bad idea.

        Nigel almost puts his foot in it with Lexi, much to Billy’s annoyance, before later seeing Lexi reading one of the letters he wrote to his family on the night he planned to end his own life.

        In a moment of confusion, Nigel mixes Lexi up with Clare. Lexi’s startled and shares her concerns with Billy that Phil might be dead.

        Billy’s adamant Nigel was behind Lexi’s upset and goes to confront him. Meanwhile, Callum prepares to tell Lexi the truth about where Phil is.

        Peace seems to be restored though and Lexi is filled in on the situation. Linda and Nigel then accompany Billy, Lexi and Callum to visit Phil at the mental health unit.

        EastEnders spoilers next week 2. Phil’s special episode

        A special episode of the soap will take place which will follow Phil’s time in the mental health unit, spanning from the 20th February to four weeks later in the present day.

        The episode starts off with Phil being rather isolated, failing to open up in therapy sessions. However, he soon starts to bond with another patient called Gaz.

        Upset that Gaz is leaving the unit, Phil continues to do the inner work he needs to get better. Support worker Yasmin then suggests that Phil’s ready to head back home.

        Listening to voicemails from Sharon and Nigel, Phil then discharges himself.

        EastEnders spoilers next week 3. Murder accusations fly

        On the four year anniversary of Harry’s girlfriend Shireen’s disappearance, Harry’s visited by Shireen’s brother Asad who now believes him to be innocent.

        Nicola puts on a vigil at Harry’s Barn for Shireen but Asad then turns up and accuses Teddy of being the one to murder Shireen. Harry then defends his dad as Teddy assures he didn’t kill her.

        Once alone though, Harry demands the truth from Teddy. Meanwhile, Nicola meets up with someone called Benji and asks for Shireen’s whereabouts…

        Later on, Ravi tips Nicola up about a drug supply at Walford East but Teddy catches her out, making her confess about the dealing.

        Scheming Nicola then tries to get between Teddy’s business plans with Junior. But behind Nicola’s back, Teddy agrees to the business deal with Junior, keeping it a secret from his ex wife…

        4. Emotions run high as Martin’s funeral draws closer

        Jean offers to help Ruby planning Martin’s funeral, but Ruby isn’t keen on Jean’s interference.

        Thanks to Kathy’s advice, Jean manages to convince Ruby to let her help out. She then goes to No.45 to thank Kathy.

        Things are made awkward for Kathy though when she’s caught in the middle of Ruby and Jean’s differing views over their wishes for the funeral… Elsewhere, Amy and Avani try to help Lily through her grief. But, can they support their friend?

          Clearly, Nicola is not a woman to be messed with. But has Zack learned his lesson?

            Whilst the trailer does not feature gameplay footage, it establishes the atmosphere of the game, showing a lone soldier scavenging supplies and gazing at the sky, possibly hinting at themes of survival and escape. The game’s focus on resource extraction and combat suggests that players will have to strategise how to collect valuable materials whilst navigating potentially dangerous encounters.

            Alongside this announcement, the studio also confirmed that Parallel TCG will soon be available on mobile devices.
