Rockstar’s decision today to delay the release of Grand Theft Auto VI could cost the developer $500,000, according to gaming finance expert Professor Rob Wilson.

In an exclusive interview with Videogamer.com, Professor Wilson explained why the setback could ultimately push the total budget of GTA VI toward the $3bn mark.

This in turn could create more pressure on Rockstar and their publisher, Take Two Interactive, to pass the costs on to their customers with a $100 price tag.

However, according to Professor Wilson, who is Director of Executive Education at the University Campus of Football Business in London, such a price hike could also hurt Rockstar and GTA VI given the inevitable player revolt that would follow.

In a wide-ranging interview, Professor Wilson also gave his views on the impact that the recent decisions to put Warner Bros Discovery up for sale could have on WB Games, and how much Square Enix’s decision to replace humans with AI could ultimately cost them.

How much could the GTA VI delay cost Rockstar in added costs and loss of months of revenues?

“The six-month slip is extremely expensive in real cash terms.

“Taking the midpoint of additional vendor surge, QA and certification, art polishing and rebooking marketing you are now $350m or so deeper into the budget. Then add the time value hit where the most front-loaded cash event in this industry now falls six months later. Put that together and this can easily be a $500m equivalent swing.

“However, Rockstar historically optimises itself on reputation which compounds over decades rather than quarters. They fully understand that releasing imperfect three months early would permanently destroy more value than this half billion cost to delay.”

Does the delay and increased costs increase the pressure to make GTA VI a $100 game?

“Yes. This materially increases the incentive curve to find a new price ceiling. But breaking the $100 psychological barrier risks consumer revolt, political scrutiny, and sets a precedent platform holders may not even want.

“It’s more likely that they move the price ceiling up through a mix of premium editions, collectors tiers, digital add-on bundles and the like. This lets them recapture margin scarily efficiently without setting a permanent anchor that becomes a hostage to fortune for every gaming franchise.”

What’s happening with Warner Bros Discovery?

“Warner Bros Discovery is in a crucial period where it is actively reviewing strategic alternatives to maximise shareholder value, with options ranging from a full sale, a partial sale, or pushing ahead with the planned split of the business into two separate entities.

“If they split, one side will be focused on streaming and studio content (the part of the business driving growth) and the other focused on the declining linear networks side, which continues to be structurally challenged by falling advertising revenues.

“Recent quarterly results underline the contrasting perspective. Overall revenues have dipped, advertising is sliding, and the company posted a net loss driven by amortisation and restructuring costs, but its adjusted EBITDA remains strong, and the studios and streaming engine is performing with material growth upside.

“This combination has attracted attention from potential bidders including Comcast, Netflix, Amazon and Paramount Skydance, with reports suggesting a decision on a sale vs split could come before Christmas 2025, ahead of a potential mid-2026 structural separation.

“The valuation question now revolves around what premium an acquirer would pay for the growth assets and how investors discount the legacy parts of the portfolio. In short, WBD is now a live thesis around unlocking trapped value, with its IP library, streaming trajectory and sports and media rights portfolio forming the core attraction, while the legacy linear business remains the drag that must be dealt with one way or another.”

Are they really considering a sale?

“Yes. There is now a genuine and real strategic option to sell. The old-style legacy linear economics are collapsing faster than the capital structure can tolerate and the equity does not have the ability to organically deliver at the pace required.

“Splitting studios and networks and running competitive tension between multiple buyers is economically sensible, in my opinion.

“WB Games is the cleanest, highest margin, high multiple asset and could fetch low-teens billions if DC and Wizarding World rights are carved, easily assigned, and cleanly documented. That structural legal choice is the difference between private equity underwriting this at scale and everyone walking away.”

How much could Square Enix be trying to save in costs by switching QA to AI?

“If Square Enix genuinely gets to 70% automation a $20m–$50m annual saving becomes highly likely.

“This would be the single highest ROI optimisation lever in the entire cost stack because it squeezes the most labour intensive function without cutting narrative design, art ambition or engine investment. It is cost optimisation without the cheapening of the brand. I’d say that is also why Japanese capital markets would reward this, if they execute cleanly and stage it properly through 2027.”

What are the potential costs to Square Enix should this plan go wrong?

“If this goes wrong, the cost to Square Enix could be huge.

“What starts as a cost-saving exercise could destroy value instead. If AI misses bugs that then show up when millions of players get hold of the game, Square Enix would likely have to pay emergency external QA partners, re-submit builds for platform approval, deal with refunds, handle a wave of negative reviews, bring discounts forward, and potentially delay future releases.

“In the worst-case scenario this could easily burn through $50m within days. QA is basically an insurance policy which looks expensive until the moment it fails, and then it becomes one of the most expensive mistakes a publisher can make.”

A game that puts you in the boots of Zezito, on a personal quest to restore glittering caves to their former glory. Just be aware this wont be easy, as you’ll be dealing with nasty spiked snails with their poisonous slime that have discolored the floor of the caves. To coincide with this news, we’ve got the latest footage from the game below.

Here’s what the creator says about the game. ” This game was created with the intention of using it as a test as I was starting to learn to program in Forth and I wanted to see what could be done with this language, so I tried to limit the use of machine language routines, I use only a few: the IRQ routine, the music/sfx player provided by Odie and a couple of small routines related to calculating the score. This means that when playing levels with many sprites the game pace will slow down. Also I kept the graphics as simple as possible.”

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is getting delisted starting November 15


Slitherine / Black Lab Games have announced that the excellent strategy game Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is going to be removed from all stores.

They said “starting” on November 15th, that the game and all of its DLC “will no longer be available for purchase on any platform” and they wanted to “give everyone a proper heads-up to grab the game while it’s still available”. If you already own it on platforms like Steam and GOG, you will still be able to play it, but no one else will be able to buy it once it’s gone.

Another terrible hit for game preservation. It’s such a huge shame when games are just removed like this. There’s probably some sort of rights expiration behind the scenes for the removal, but we can only guess as they didn’t give an actual reason.

We do also have Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes upcoming but it’s a very different game. Still, at least there will be something expanding the Battlestar universe that I love so much.

If you want to grab Battlestar Galactica Deadlock before it’s gone possibly forever, the GOG store has it on a 70% discount until the 17th.

There’s been many gaming platforms that have come and gone throughout the years, some better than others. For every Nintendo Switch, you have Nintendo Wii U. For every Game Boy, you have Virtual Boy. For every Sega Dreamcast, there’s a Phillips CDi. But even the most forgotten platforms have their merits and share of great games.

Case in point, the Nokia N-Gage. Even though it’s often maligned (this writer will argue to the death that said disdain is unwarranted), there were several great games published on the platform, some of which still remain unavailable to play anywhere else. So without further aideu, we present to you the X N-Gage games you should check out if you truly want to consider yourself a gaming expert.

Pathway to Glory

The game that should have launched a long-lasting franchise.

After a slew of ports and remakes, Pathway to Glory stuck out as an exemplary example of what the N-Gage could do. It was an original title developed by RedLynx, who are most known as the creators of the Trials series, that had players taking control of a special forces unit in 1943. The title utilized much of N-Gage’s best features, such as N-Gage Arena and Bluetooth, and was a fully-realized strategy game that was a ton of fun to play. It even spawned a sequel, Ikusa Islands, that sadly came at the end of the platform’s life cycle and is mostly forgotten.

The developers and publishers Nokia managed to attract to the N-Gage is impressive no matter your thoughts on the console itself, and one of the best examples of that is SEGA’s Pocket Kingdom: Own the World. Possibly the first ever mobile MMO, Pocket Kingdom let players talk to and challenge others online through N-Gage Arena and featured a robust crafting system. The complexity of the game was impressive and it took dozens of hours to wrap your head around it. A spiritual successor to Dragon Force, the plot and characters were interesting, self-aware that they were part of a game. With how much thought and world building was put into the game, it’s surprising the franchise never showed up anywhere else.

Who would have thought a PS1 game could be ported in full 3D to a portable device?

While the isometric Game Boy Advance Tony Hawk games are actually surprisingly fun, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (alongside Tomb Raider) basically served as the tech demo for what the N-Gage could do. Releasing only 4 years after the original PS1 version, the N-Gage version looked and played surprisingly close to its console predecessors, featuring multiple modes, skaters and full 3D visuals. While many criticized the N-Gage’s controls, complex combos could indeed be pulled off with its buttons, proving it could handle console games just fine. The N-Gage Arena features of the game were some of the most entertaining, allowing you to ghost-race players online for the best time (there was even a competition with physical prizes around launch). Playing a full 3D version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater on the go in 2003 was a big accomplishment that should get more praise.

Ashen, which has no relation to the Annapurna Interactive game that came fourteen years later, was one of many first-person shooters on N-Gage, a platform that worked surprisingly well for the genre considering the lack of shoulder buttons and an analogue stick. Developed by the recently-defunct Torus Games, who independently created over a hundred games (mainly tie-ins to existing properties), Ashen was an original FPS that featured a unique blend of gothic and alien styling. The game featured nine enemies and nine weapon types spread our over eight levels, which made for an impressive variety for a handheld shooter. With a basic, but interesting, plot and a unique style, Ashen was yet another unique IP in the N-Gage catalog that never appeared again.

Coming incredibly late into the N-Gage’s lifespan (even some of its owners weren’t aware games were still being made in late 2005 for the platform, months after the debut of the PSP), High Seize was developed by the same developer as Pathway to Glory and took place in the 17th century Caribbean. Featuring 37 maps and 25 missions, the game was an RTS similar to Advance Wars, but its visuals and fun pirate theme made it a blast to dig into and had some of the most playability of any of the games on the platform.

One of the first games ever developed by Bugbear Entertainment, who are best known for the FlatOut and WreckFest series, Glimmerati is one of the most striking oddities on the platform. Another title released late in the N-Gage’s lifecycle, Glimmerati featured a unique tone combining imagery and vibes that were sleek and sexy with a satire of celebrity and paparazzi. The plot of the game (and there was a good amount of dialogue) featured a group of the rich and famous who would get into supercars and race around city streets in an underground club. The racing gameplay was from a top-down nearly isometric viewpoint and was a lot of fun. It did suffer from N-Gage’s small screen, as it was hard to see the corners coming ahead, but once you got the hang of it, it was an entertaining, if not a somewhat bizarre experience. As a bonus, the intro song was the fantastic (and at the time brand new) “My Superstar” by Kemopetrol, which perfectly set the mood.

Perhaps hoping to bury their bad news behind the GTA 6 delay, Skydance Games has announced that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed beyond its early 2026 window and has no new release date or window.

In a classic apology text image announcement thing – do these have a technical term? –  the team writes:

“At Skydance Games, our goal is to deliver unforgettable, premium games that honor the characters and worlds we’re fortunate to work with. MARVEL 1943: Rise of Hydra is an ambitious project, and we are committed to ensuring it meets the level of quality that our team, players, and fans expect.

“To fully realize our vision for MARVEL 1943: Rise of Hydra, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window beyond early 2026.

“We’re grateful for the passion and support from the community and players around the world. The team is working hard to create something truly special, and we look forward to sharing more with you as development progresses.”

It’s another significant setback to the Amy Hennig-led superhero game. Announced in March of last year, after originally been teased in 2021, the initial target was a  2025 release… but outside of the cinematic reveal trailer last summer, we’ve heard and seen precious little about this game.

You’ve just got to hope they weren’t planning on a November 2026 release, because… that’d be a bit awkward now, wouldn’t it?

Taking the superhero fight back to World War 2, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will have four playable characters with the perspectives switching between Captain America, Black Panther, Nanali, and Gabriel Jones. This will give different gameplay aspects too, with Nanali likely having much more sneaking and spying compared to the other characters.

The cast for the game includes Khary Payton as Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the Black Panther in this game’s timeline, Drew Moerlein taking on the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America, Megalyn Echikunwoke portraying Nanali, a Wakandan spy, Marque Richardson lending his voice to Gabriel Jones, a member of the Howling Commandos, Lyne Renée voicing Julie, a member of the French Resistance, and Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father, is being voiced by Joel Johnstone.

The ‘Shine Bright like a Gemstone’ side-mission has a tremendous prize

Game Freak has been feeling generous lately. Case in point: Pokémon Legends Z-A’s newest Mystery Gift, which gives out a Diancie and its associated Mega Stone to anyone who has finished the main storyline. The Rock/Fairy mythical monster has been a rarity in major Pokémon games, with the last Diancie event dating back to 2016. Pokémon Go made a Diancie available during a limited event in 2024, but most fans weren’t able to move that monster into Scarlet and Violet, as creatures that you’ve never caught or traded cannot be transferred, unfortunately.

For most people, then, this Mystery Gift will be the first legitimate pathway to obtain Diancie in a long time. It’s pretty easy, too. You get the Diancite Stone by connecting to Mystery Gift, which requires an internet connection. From there, you go to the Looker Bureau and talk to Mimi, which will kick off a new side quest called “Shine Bright like a Gemstone” that ultimately ends with Diancie in your party. Once you do, if you’re in the camp that’s been holding onto that 2024 Diancie on your phone, you’ll finally be able to transfer it into Scarlet and Violet via Pokémon Home.

Beyond getting a rare mythical Pokémon, players who have yet to beat the main storyline might want to do so soon. Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC drops Dec. 10, 2025 — and it’ll bring with it monsters that can go over level 150. Diancie will be an asset in hyperspace, but there’s probably only so much you can do against a Pokémon that’s potentially dozens of levels higher than you. Get to it!

Battlefield 6 has just received a server-side update that is bound to make the game’s entire player base happy, or at least those who had been waiting for it to arrive after the developer first discussed plans for it.

The long-awaited overhaul of many of the game’s Challenges and Assignments is here, altering the requirements for most of them to be something that mere mortals are able to do.

Manage cookie settings

One of the loudest criticisms Battlefield 6 received at its launch had to do with its poor progression – we even called it out in our BF6 review. That problem has been multi-faceted, which is why it took weeks for what’s likely the hardest part of it to be solved.

BF6 had very slow XP earn rates, particularly for weapons. BF Studios addressed that in a major patch, but said that changing the requirements for Challenges and Assignments would take time. Previously, many of the Challenges had incredibly lengthy requirements, and some were so specific that players simply created Portal servers so that they could satisfy their requirements.

The even larger issue was that Class Training Paths and several weapons were locked behind those Challenges, making them functionally unavailable to the majority of players. Well, the time has now come for something to be done about that mess.

In a new blog post, BF Studios explained that the old requirements relied far more on time investment over mastery, and data and player feedback have been clear that they were far too overtuned.

For starters, the tweaking of these requirements will not ignore the progress you’ve already made. Players would simply need to play a match for them to reflect, but you won’t have to start all over again.

Some of the ones that have been altered as part of this update include the entirety of the class unblock challenges for Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon – meaning you’ll finally be able to access the other Training Paths.

The requirements for Weapon Assignments have been simplified, and the Mode/Unit Assignments have had their descriptions simplified, and requirements reduced. Even the more pesky “do this much in a life” Challenges have been altered so that you can actually fulfil their requirements in a single life.

While this week’s update doesn’t address every single one of those cases, it does alter the majority. As for the rest, you can expect them to be addressed in future updates. Still, this latest sweep brings over 90 adjustments, so they’re bound to affect almost everyone.

In case you missed it, BF Studios also recently made it so rerolling battle pass Challenges takes into account whether or not you own the full game, making it less likely that a free-to-play Battlefield Redsec player would get ones they cannot complete.

Mass Effect fans can spend more time in BioWare’s beloved sci-fi world in other mediums beyond comics, too. You and three friends can team up for a story-driven tabletop adventure in Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz, an officially licensed strategy board game from Modiphius Entertainment. Released late last year for $55, Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz is on sale for $38.88 at Amazon. Though designed for co-op, the strategy game is fully playable solo.

Seven Mass Effect novels have been published since 2007. The first four books were tie-in novels for the original trilogy. Mass Effect: Revelation, the first novel, actually hit stores before the original game. Book 2, Ascension, picks up where the first game ended, and Retribution takes place after Mass Effect 2. The fourth book in the series, Deception, was a continuation of Retribution’s story. Paperback editions of the first four novels are in still in print

The most recent trilogy of Mass Effect novels served as tie-in stories for Mass Effect: Andromeda. Even if you didn’t like Andromeda, the books are actually quite good. Fans can also add Mass Effect: Andromeda’s art book to their shelves for $34. Mass Effect doesn’t have an official cookbook, but it does have an $18 (was $28) cocktail book.
