Housemarque’s Next Sci-Fi Shooter Is Called Saros And It Might Be More Forgiving Than Returnal

Housemarque’s Next Sci-Fi Shooter Is Called Saros And It Might Be More Forgiving Than Returnal

Screenshot: Housemarque / Kotaku

I knew Saros was a Housemarque game the second its protagonist said, “But after every death I always come back stronger.” The Finnish studio behind Returnal and a host of excellent arcade shooters is back with a new entry in the same genre scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 in 2026 and I already can’t wait.

Not much was revealed in the cinematic teaser during Wednesday’s PlayStation State of Play showcase, including any actual gameplay. But we did get a sense of Saros’ world and stakes, with the main character mentioning endless time loops and an eclipse from which madness, and creepy enemies, both spawn.

It seems very much like a spiritual successor to 2021’s GOTY roguelike contender Returnal but with an important difference. While that game was pretty punishing run-to-run, Saros will have “permanent resources and progression.” Every time hero Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli) respawns, he’ll have new weapons and upgrades rather than his arsenal resetting each time.

Here’s the description:

Set on the planet Carcosa under the threat of an ominous eclipse, take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer searching for answers on a lost off-world colony. SAROS features permanent progression systems, where every death reshapes the world while offering new upgrades to overcome challenges. With a haunting story, deep third-person action, and a grounded performance by Rahul Kohli, SAROS presents the next evolution in Housemarque’s gameplay-first experience.

Creative director Gregory Louden called it “the ultimate evolution of the Housemarque gameplay-first experience” and said the game will continue in the third-person action shooter tradition of its predecessor. There’s even a slight wink and a nod to Housemarque’s signature bullet hell orb patterns it loves killing players with.

When the game does arrive sometime in 2026, it will include enhancements for PS5 Pro. Considering the importance of framerate to the genre, that will probably end up being no small thing. Hopefully we get to see some actual gameplay later this year. In the meantime, you can join me in celebrating Housemarque’s 30th anniversary by giving Returnal a shot if you haven’t already.

How to Do Laundry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Keeping your Charisma stat high is one of the essential things to do in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It is because it helps you persuade characters, haggle for the best prices, and most importantly pass the skill checks. The Charisma directly depends on Henry’s appearance. If he is wearing decent and clean clothes, the Charisma will be high which will favor you in speaking with the locals. However, if you are dirty or the clothes are dirty, then you should prioritize cleaning them. One of the ways that you clean your clothes is by doing laundry. In this guide, we will help you how to do laundry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

How to Do Laundry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Laundry is one of the methods for cleaning Henry’s clothes in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. You can clean and wash Henry’s clothes by going to the bathhouse, but it will cost you a hefty amount of Groschen depending on the service you are availing. To do the laundry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you need two things. First, you need to get a Soap, and the second thing is you need to find a laundry spot.

You can purchase the soap from the traders and the bathhouse maids. The bathhouse maids have the soaps in high quantity so it is much better to buy it from them. Moreover, you can also find soap near the laundry spots or in random houses.

The laundry spots are scattered throughout the regions of the Kingdom of Bohemia. However, not every town or village has a laundry spot. Most of the major towns and villages have a pond or lake beside them which is usually a laundry spot. Moreover, any area that has running water near it will have a laundry area where you can launder your clothes.

Upon getting the soap and finding a laundry spot, interact with the laundry spot and you will see a window with all of the dirty clothes. Select the dirty clothes you wish to clean and accept. You will hear a brief splash sound and all of your selected clothing items will be cleaned.

That is all related to how to do laundry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Keep Driving is a refreshing road trip management RPG

0
Keep Driving is a refreshing road trip management RPG

A road trip RPG that blends in some inventory management and unique turn-based battles that has you fight off everything on the road from tractors to abandoned suitcases, Keep Driving is a charming and clever game worth your time. Note: personal purchase.

Tested on Desktop Linux with the latest Proton 9.0-4 working perfectly.

Here you’re trying to get across the country to join up with friends at a festival. It’s a long way though, filled with dangerous roads and all sorts of strange people wanting to be picked up along the way. You’ll be ensuring your car stays in top shape, along with sorting through your inventory often and attempting to keep up your own energy levels. It’s a really unique blend of game features.

The developer said The Oregon Trail is one of the main inspirations for the game, and going into it knowing that should give you a reasonable idea of what type of gameplay to expect. It’s like a modernised version of it with an early 2000’s vibe. It’s just captivating from the moment you set off and start to burn some rubber.

One of the really interesting ideas here is the battle system. It’s not like you’re getting out of your car and hitting people, instead it’s about the encounters directly with everything being a possible danger, but also at times quite lucrative for loot. This could be overtaking another vehicle, getting lost, dealing with puddles of water, your car making weird noises, potholes and lots more random events.

The battles are turn-based and each turn has the possibility to reduce your car durability, your personal energy, your money and your gas. The attacks come as various icons that appear on the bar at the bottom of the screen, and you have various abilities to reduce how much damage each will take every turn. These abilities of yours need you to drag them over the bar to match up their icons as much as possible to remove the harmful effects.

Since it’s a road trip game, there will be hitchhikers to pick up (or not). As you pick up more passengers they will all add to your abilities during these battle encounters. They will also add to the overall atmosphere of the game, sprinkling in some chatter along the way. Like my first passenger, who has a condition where they just fall asleep all the time, who kept asking me not to dump them in the rain as they didn’t want to fall asleep in a puddle. Passengers gain experience and level up to become more important as the trip goes on too.

You also get to constantly upgrade your vehicle (and unlock more) as well. There’s quite a lot of upgrades and customisation you can do here. Simple things like changing the colour but also proper upgrades like tyre types for different bonuses, engine upgrades, roof upgrades and more.

There is of course a lot that can go wrong during the game. Constantly trying to balance your different attributes is actually quite a bit more challenging than expected. You really do need to ensure you’re always nicely stocked up, skipping even a single shop on your trip can end up quite fatal. Don’t worry though, you can always call your parents to bail you out, but if they don’t — game over.

You also have character status effects to deal with too, that you will want to get rid of as soon as possible as they will debuff you during your run. Things like being cold, that you could get rid of by drinking some hot coffee, will add to your durability damage during events. Or if you’re starving, which will increase your energy costs.

Feature Highlight:

A procedurally generated pixel art world to explore one road at a time.
A nostalgic early 2000s setting with an emphasis on the analogue.
Use turn-based ‘combat’ to solve situations (like getting stuck behind a tractor).
Pick up misfits, oddballs and lost souls as you go.
Featuring a killer soundtrack by local indie bands.
Multiple endings to unlock when you return to the road.

While it works great on Desktop Linux, it’s not yet a perfect experience on Steam Deck due to some text being too small and no controller support (which they said they’re working on). Feels like it should be a perfect fit for handhelds when they sort those two issues out.

Love it. Wonderful idea with some great music and the pixel art is terrific too. Absolutely worth grabbing.

State of Play returns tomorrow, 12th February, for 40+ minutes of PS5 games | TheSixthAxis

State of Play returns tomorrow, 12th February, for 40+ minutes of PS5 games | TheSixthAxis

Sony has announced that their PlayStation State of Play showcase will return tomorrow, 12th Feburary, 10pm UK time – that’s 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CET, and on 13th February at 7am JST.

The announcement is very, very light on what we might expect to see, but we do know that the show will be around 40 minutes long, and it will feature “news and updates on great games coming to PS5. The show celebrates a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world.”

And that’s all that they’re saying. Not even hinting at some of the publishers and studios that are taking part. Though we do already know one that will be there: the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date announcement, which leaked last week.

The MGS Delta release date trailer – viewable here – was accidentally uploaded to the PlayStation Store, and the page listing temporarily hosted the game’s August release date as well. The trailer teased the returning Ape Escape tie-in mode, Snake vs. Monkey, just as was found in the original release of Metal Gear Solid 3!

Sony only mentions the PS5 here, and while that strictly speaking would include PSVR 2 games. The VR headset obviously requires a PS5 or a PC in order to play games, so there could be some VR titles featured or games that build VR compatibility in, but Sony don’t mention it here like they have in the past. So, I think we can safely expect that this will be pretty narrowly focused on PS5 titles. Hopefully there’s some first party bangers in there, like Ghost of Yotei, Insomniac’s Wolverine – which was first announced way, way back in 2021 – or something completely new and surprising.

Maybe Kendrik Lamar will turn up and perform around the PlayStation symbols, like he did on the weekend?

Popular Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Took The Spotlight From Iconic D&D Villain In New Book

Popular Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Took The Spotlight From Iconic D&D Villain In New Book

Summary

Strahd von Zarovich is omitted from the 2025 Monster Manual, while Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3 is mentioned. The absence of Strahd in the new manual is surprising, as he played a significant role in previous editions. The exclusion of Strahd raises questions about future content and whether Astarion is becoming more prominent in D&D lore.

The 2025 Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual failed to mention one of the game’s most iconic villains, while simultaneously throwing the spotlight onto one of the popular heroes of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Vampires are a common enemy in D&D and a relatively easy one, due to how many weaknesses they have that carry over from folklore. However, there is one bloodsucker who strikes fear into the hearts of adventurers around the multiverse: Count Strahd von Zarovich.

Popular Baldur’s Gate 3 Species Receiving Huge Change In D&D

The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual is drastically changing a popular Baldur’s Gate 3 species

Strahd is the vampire ruler of Barovia, a realm cut off from the rest of the multiverse. He has appeared in numerous adventures since 1983, with the most recent being the incredibly popular Curse of Strahd campaign for D&D 5e, which was released in 2016.

D&D vampires have just received an update in the 2025 Monster Manual, yet there’s one huge change from the 2014 version of the book involving Strahd and Baldur’s Gate 3 that’s shocking to see.

Astarion Is Mentioned In The Monster Manual (But Strahd Isn’t)

Dungeons & Dragons Curse of Strahd Cover

In the vampire section of the new Monster Manual, there’s a funny quote attributed to Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3. This makes sense, considering he’s a vampire (and incredibly popular to boot.)

However, Strahd isn’t mentioned once, nor is Barovia or Castle Ravenloft. This is despite Strahd having a huge portion of the vampire section in the 2014 Monster Manual dedicated to him.

It’s not as if the new Monster Manual dodges references to classic D&D lore, as characters like Lord Soth from Dragonlance and Acererak are name-dropped in the text.

D&D Releases New & Revised Forgotten Realms Subclasses

Wizards of the Coast has revealed new D&D subclasses based on the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

It’s not surprising to see Baldur’s Gate content in the new D&D books, considering how the cast has essentially become the face of the tabletop game.

The big question is why Strahd got snubbed? The fact that he’s not mentioned once in the vampires section while Astarion is is very suspicious.

Could it be that Wizards of the Coast is keeping Strahd information vague due to him being the focus of a new book, or has Astarion’s charm overthrown the lord of Castle Ravenloft for good? Only time will tell.

Phasmophobia’s next updates include a new journal and dolly dress up

Phasmophobia, the wildly popular co-op ghost hunting game, has been blowing up on Twitch since at least 2020, and developers Kinetic Games said Monday that it’s sold more than 22 million copies so far. In 2025, the team has a jam-packed developmental roadmap, including plans for an updated look for its famously nondescript player character models. Here’s what we know about the updates and upgrades slated for later this year, which were detailed Monday in a news release.

The first major update for Phasmaphobia this year is called the Chronicle update, and it was detailed previously in a developer blog post. Kinetic says it will revamp how players gather evidence — things like spectral temperature fluctuations and eerie sounds, which will now be archived for the first time. To that end, the Chronicle update will replace the Photos tab with a Media tab. It should be especially handy if, in the midst of a particularly hectic haunting, one of your friends was busy wailing, arguing, or otherwise audibly panicking.

Developers said there will be more nuance to data collection as well. The first capture of any media type will be marked as Unique, and will come with big rewards at the end of a contract. Duplicate pieces of media will reward much less, which encourages players to try different tools to create a wide portfolio of different pieces of evidence.

Sometime after the Chronicle update comes the Player Character Overhaul. Currently, players can only pick one of a handful of avatars, none of which has a ton of personality. The road map shows a figure wearing different shirts, which could mean players will be able to customize their threads and swap outfits between contracts. It would be a welcome change to the current status quo, which has everyone wearing plain button-down shirts and other simple, sensible, forgettable clothes.

Later in the year, Kinetic also said it would be releasing a brand new map. It will be small, they said, “akin to the houses” that already exist in the game. Additional changes will be made to existing maps. Specifically, the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses will get major updates, overhauling the layout and creating new rooms for ghosts to haunt. There are also teases of holiday updates for Easter and Halloween, and even some 2026 features, including one thing called “Horror 2.0” that certainly piques my interest.

Nintendo Talks Switch 2 Demand And Gives Small Update On Pricing

Some new details about Nintendo’s plans for the Switch 2 launch have been revealed in the company’s latest earnings briefing, with president Shuntaro Furukawa revealing that Nintendo is preparing for a high level of demand for the new console. The executive also discussed Nintendo’s philosophy regarding pricing for the Switch 2 and confirmed there are no plans right now for a Switch price cut.

While answering shareholders’ questions about the launch, Furukawa revealed that Nintendo is anticipating a high level of demand for the new console. “As of now, we are taking the risk and proceeding with production to meet as large a demand as possible,” Furukawa said, adding that Nintendo would be estimating the initial demand for the console based off the reaction to its April 4 Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, as well as the response to its hands-on Switch 2 Experience events.

Nintendo is also making preparations in case it needs to quickly ramp up production of the consoles, as was the case when the original Nintendo Switch experienced supply issues in 2020. “As was true with Nintendo Switch, we believe it will not be easy to rapidly increase production capacity,” Furukawa said. “So based on our prior experience, we are making preparations to be able to respond as quickly as possible.”

The company seems well-positioned to meet demand this time around, with an industry analyst revealing that Nintendo has lined up a supply chain to avoid another chip shortage. Nintendo has also said that having sufficient supply is a key part of its strategy to discourage scalpers–although it has run into a different issue with scalpers, with people attempting to sell off their non-transferable Switch 2 Experience tickets on eBay.

The earnings call also included a question about the Switch 2’s pricing. While Nintendo hasn’t revealed a price or even a ballpark range for the Switch 2, Furukawa has explained some of the factors the company has to consider when it comes to pricing. As well as inflation and exchange rates, which Furukawa notes have “changed significantly” since the original Switch released in 2017, it also needs to “consider the price range that consumers expect for Nintendo products.”

“I cannot tell you a specific price for Nintendo Switch 2 at this time, but we are taking various factors into account,” Furukawa said, adding that the company has no plans to change the price of the original Nintendo Switch hardware.

While Nintendo is staying tight-lipped on the price, analysts have estimated that the console will cost around $400. The original Nintendo Switch launched for $300 in 2017, though when adjusted for inflation is equivalent to around $388, making a $400 price point for the Switch 2 closer to its predecessor than it first appears.

Until we get more information about the Switch 2 in the April 4 Nintendo Direct, check out everything we currently know about the upcoming console.
