    Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Deluxe Set is on sale for $50 (was $60) at Best Buy. This is the first discount we’ve seen for the collector’s version of the game. The Deluxe Set comes with a replica gold NES cartridge with a sleeve and display stand, 13 art cards, and a set of five nostalgic pins featuring 8-bit depictions of Mario, Link, Samus, and Donkey Kong as well as the Nintendo World Championships logo. Nintendo World Championships is just one of a dozen Switch exclusives discounted at Best Buy this week. You can check out the full list at the bottom of this story.

    Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Deluxe Set

    Best Buy is the only retailer offering this deal. The Deluxe Set is in stock for $60 at GameStop, but it’s sold out at Walmart and Target. As such, we’d recommend snagging this deal soon. It would make for a great gift for a retro gaming enthusiast. If you don’t care about collectibles, it’s worth noting that Amazon-owned retailer Woot has the standard edition in stock for $25 (was $30).

    Where to buy Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, Deluxe Set

    Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition released in July and is an ode to the original Nintendo console and the real-life 1990 Nintendo World Championships. It includes over 150 minigames spread across 13 NES titles. This includes seeing how fast you can complete the first level of Super Mario Bros, how quickly you can eat an enemy in Kirby’s Adventure, and defeating as many Octoroks as possible in The Legend of Zelda. If you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can compare your scores to players around the world.

    If you don’t have an NSO membership, you can still enjoy local multiplayer for up to eight players. After each round, you’ll receive a letter rating to let you know how well you’ve performed. You’ll earn in-game coins based on your performance, which can then be used to unlock additional challenges.

    The collection is meant to be played with NES controllers, but there are some great alternatives to the $60 pair only available to Switch Online members. The classic gray 8BitDo SN30 Pro Wireless Controller is available for $40.49 (was $45). This controller is modeled after the SNES controller, but it also has thumbsticks and both triggers and bumpers, so it has the added benefit of working well with modern games, too. Alternatively, you can get the 8BitDo Pro 2 for $45 (was $50). The Pro 2 is very similar to the SN30 Pro, but it has longer handles and feels fairly similar to the DualSense controller.

    For an NES-style controller, you can pick up the Retro-Bit Origin for $25. It connects wirelessly via a 2.4GHz USB adapter and is compatible with Switch Online, PC, and Mac. This model has a color scheme matching the original Game Boy–the model with the NES color scheme is sold out.

    No, Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios isn’t quite ready to show off its next game just yet, but it does have a little Advent calendar for you to get through at least.


    Here’s what we know about Larian’s next game so far: it exists! That literally is it at this point in time, which isn’t at all surprising considering Baldur’s Gate 3 only received its full launch last year, but fans of the studio will obviously be desperate for more (even if the RPG is massive and has yet another update coming next year). We do also know that the devs have had a summit to discuss what’s next, though none of us were privy to that conversation, so details are slimmer than a piece of paper. Still, Larian is hoping you’ll forget about all that, as that studio has prepared an Advent calendar for us all to go through as a nice little winter distraction.

    Larian shared word of the calendar with a tongue in cheek little video with the entire company thanking fans and wishing them a happy holiday season. It also featured senior communications developer Aoife Wilson picking up a present with a big ole label that reads “Larian’s Next Game,” though before we got to see what’s inside it CEO Swen Vincke rugby tackles her out the way. “Sorry about that! Uh, no. This thing? It needs a lot more time in the oven,” Vincke said in the video himself. “By the time it’s going to be finished it’s going to be so big,” Vincke exclaimed. “For the time being? You’re going to have to wait.”

    The Advent calendar itself so far has three days worth of activities to check out, though so far they’re all just very simple jigsaw puzzles. Once you put it together, you get some lovely art from across the studio’s games and some details about what the art is of. Nothing fancy, but a nice opportunity to get some new background art for your PC, and there’s something new every day until Christmas Eve! And definitely not a sign of what’s to come, so don’t even try to take a peak.

    The Witcher 4 made its surprise debut at The Game Awards with a gorgeous trailer starring Ciri, now a full-fledged Witcher, chopping down a monster that had been terrorising a village. But with Ciri confirmed as the leading lady, there’s one important question left: will Geralt appear?

    Yes. Yes, he will. That’s according to CD Projekt who confirmed it to IGN, stating that  “Geralt will appear in the game, but we don’t want to spoil his role precisely. You’ll have to wait to learn more for now.”

    Of course, the trailer did hint that Geralt would return as it ended with the gravelly voice of Geralt saying “Time for a new saga. See you on the path.”

    The last we saw of Geralt in the games was in The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine. The white-haired man was in semi-retirement at his vineyard in Toussaint. And we also know from the books that Geralt is alive and well some hundred years after the events of The Witcher 3.

    Meanwhile Geralt’s voice actor Doug Cockle got himself in some minor trouble with CD Projekt earlier this month when revealed that he would appear in the new game but not as the main character.

    “Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about it. What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on Geralt,” said Cockle as downed several potions and prepared to fight a monster. “So it’s not about him this time. We don’t know who it’s about. I’m excited to find out. I want to know! I have not seen any script yet — I mean, I couldn’t tell you if I did. This is the thing, so I could be lying through my teeth. But I’m not. Or am I?”

    As for Ciri, there’s a lot the trailer sets up that the main game will need to answer. For example, Ciri is seen downing the special Witcher potions which would presumably mean Ciri has undergone the Trial of Grasses, despite not being able to previously. She is generally considered a Witcher even though she didn’t go through the usual process, and the book’s author Sapkowski also refers to her as a Witcher. Still, there’s a lot of questions waiting to be answered.

    MiceGard is a Nordic mythology tale of mice fighting evil frogs. The story is rather deep for a game of this type, but to be honest, I just skipped through the walls of text to get through the to game play. I regret that decision now that I look back on it, as certain things would have made more sense if I had bothered to read. But that’s not to say the game is bad, it is not. It is an action strategy game where you control a group of mice fighting frog soldiers. You have three stances you can have the mice in: free, attack and defense. In free, the mice run around and freely attack, and usually get their butts kicked. Attack is where they have a triangle formation and fire arrows. Defense is where they get into a circle and fight defensively.

    MiceGard levels consist of mostly of moving from point A to point B, fighting, defending and gathering stuff. As the levels move on, your choice of stance becomes critical, especially starting with the “New Leader” stage. In the levels, there are three things to collect, health potions, stones and mouse prisoners. Stones are used to rebuild buildings in your village which give you benefits, like extra health and regeneration. Mouse prisoners are used for the final stage/battle. The more you have, the easier it is in MiceGard.

    If I had to label MiceGard something, it would be “forgettable.” It is good for what it is and it doesn’t outstay it welcome. However, I never found myself excited or feeling like this would be something I would come back to. This is a game in six months I’ll forget I have reviewed it (and there are quite a few of those with over 500 reviews under my belt). Still, I cannot be hard on it as it still a competent game. It is for that reason MiceGard will get a Recommended with a seven back-end score. A good game that’ll you complete in an evening, but nothing more.

    Overall: MiceGard is a tale of mice versus frogs with Nordic mythology themes. MiceGard offers an intriguing but short-lived experience.

    Verdict: Recommended

    We have just found through Saberman, that Vega and team have released the eagerly awaited BBC Micro to Atari XL/XE conversion, of the hit game of ‘Bubble Bobble’. A game that has infuriated and thrilled us in equal measure at the Arcades and on our home computers since its original release around the year of 1986 to 1987! To coincide with this news, We’ve got the latest footage of the game, as well as the full details below. Seriously, if you have an Atari XL/XE you don’t want to miss this.

    And here’s the details. “The game based on the BBC MICRO version but written practically from the beginning in order to take maximum advantage of the graphical and musical capabilities of ATARI XE/XL. It has 100 levels with the final boss at the end. Also it has 2 different game endings depends on we play 1 player or 2 players. It requires only 64KB and a disk drive or emulated cartridge. To run the cartridge version you need at least the ALTIRRA emulator v1.30. The game works on NTSC and PAL but on PAL works a little faster”.

    One of the best aspects of The First Descendant Season 2 is the introduction of Fellows. So far we only have a German Shepherd companion, and he undoubtedly is a very good boy. More good boys are on the way, and Nexon has revealed the next planned Fellow for The First Descendant while also sharing bad news for people who prefer cats over dogs.

    Before the new year arrives, make sure to grab all of the December 2024 free rewards. In addition, there is a new code to get that expires on December 13th, and Nexon has just released a new bundle in honor of Season 2’s launch.

    The First Descendant is poised to have an excellent 2025, and it all kicks off with the introduction of Ines Raya as a new playable character. While we cannot wait for the arrival of Ines Raya and her peachy glutes, we’re also looking forward to more Fellows.

    The First Descendant next Fellow

    Ahead of Season 2’s launch, Nexon said they were looking into adding other types of companions for The First Descendant. Now, during their recent Void Chaser livestream conducted on December 12th, the developer shared what’s next.

    At the beginning of the Q&A at the 01:02:04 mark, Nexon revealed that they are looking to add keyboard and mouse support to consoles between mid-January to February. They then discussed the new Fellow they are planning for TFD.

    As per the English interpreter, “the next pup is the labrador retriever, so it will be cute”. Nexon presumably meant it will be an adult dog rather than a puppy as the German Shepherd was referred to as a “pup,” too. It’s also not clear if they misspoke when saying a Golden Retriever and Labrador together. It’s possible we could be getting one, or Nexon might be looking to add both whether at the same time or not.

    We’d absolutely love either a Golden Retriever or Labrodor as they are two of the best examples of man’s best friend. They are both gorgeous dogs, and the more dogs the better as they are wonderful companions.

    Unfortunately, if you’re a cat person, don’t be expecting any felines in TFD soon. The interpreter laughed at an immediate request for cats, and said “cats don’t really listen to their owners, do they, so they might not fit the game’s theme”.

    It’s possible Nexon could change their mind and add cats one day, but, right now, dogs rule and cats drool.
