Marvel Rivals Season 3 went live on Friday, bringing lots of new content. Besides a new hero and a Klyntar Domination map, NetEase also performed a rank reset, which is why many players are climbing back up in the competitive mode. On top of that, the latest Battle Pass is packed with fantastic cosmetics, some of which can be unlocked for free.

Despite all of this new content in the recent update, the Marvel Rivals developer has already revealed many things that will come in the future. Season 3.5 is planned to launch on August 8 and will bring a game-changing feature.

The next big Marvel Rivals update will bring a new ranked mode

Shortly before launching Season 3, NetEase revealed a Marvel Rivals roadmap for July and August, promising lots of new content. In the second week of the season, the developer will release summer costumes, followed by new Fantastic Four skins based on an upcoming MCU movie. The final week of the season will bring Phoenix skins for Magik and Black Panther, all leading up to the release of Season 3.5.

This mid-season Marvel Rivals update will bring Blade, another Duelist, additional balance changes, and more. But the most exciting addition? A brand-new ranked mode, which was officially teased by NetEase.

At the moment, it’s unknown what this mode will be about. However, there is a chance that NetEase will overhaul the existing ranked system. Considering that this is something many players have complained about, it could be the right move. Combined with the developer’s recent crackdown on smurfing in Season 3, this could significantly improve the competitive experience going forward.

Season 3.5 is scheduled to come out on August 8, exactly four weeks after the release of Season 3.

Kotaku’s Weekend Guide: 4 Sweet Games We’re Beating Back The Summer Heat With

Kotaku’s Weekend Guide: 4 Sweet Games We’re Beating Back The Summer Heat With

Screenshot: IOI / Claire Jackson / Kotaku

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Verified”)Current goal: Stop failing my Freelancer campaigns

Last weekend, I accomplished a Weekend Guide goal. As it turns out, Hitman is a perfect fit for me. Challenging myself to suit-only runs (a self-imposed restraint where you refuse to use disguises), and with a gameplay approach that prioritizes swift stealth instead of hanging around for the right disguise or opportunity to show up, I’ve found myself glued to this game in a way that clearly tells me Hitman is now a staple of my gaming hobby.

This weekend, though, I have a more refined goal. I have a few more missions to go at the end of the campaign trilogy that established this era of Hitman, but I also want to dig deeper into Freelancer mode.

If you’re unfamiliar with this mode, it’s a roguelike mode that scatters Hitman’s stealthy gameplay across three campaigns’ worth of maps. Succeed in your assassination and escape, and you progress the Freelancer campaign while keeping all of your equipment. Fail, and you lose everything.

I’m not sure that I’ve played many roguelikes before this, but once the synapses in my brain made the connection to extraction shooters, I was sort of stunned that I’ve been sleeping on this genre. And given my love of stealth games, it really is a shock that I’ve not been a Freelancer since the mode arrived in 2023. It’s a satisfying mode that really tests your knowledge of the maps, enemy behavior, and the push and pull of Hitman’s stealth mechanics.

So, let’s see if Agent 47’s dark and sneaky world will pull me in for yet another 30 hours this weekend. — Claire Jackson

Honkai: Star Rail officially kicks off Fate/stay night collaboration with no boosted 4-stars and no plans for English VO – but there’s a free character

Honkai: Star Rail officially kicks off Fate/stay night collaboration with no boosted 4-stars and no plans for English VO – but there’s a free character

Today is a big day for Honkai: Star Rail, and everyone who’d been looking forward to the game’s first (and long-teased) collaboration event. The free-to-play RPG welcomes the world of Fate/stay night as part of this new event.

The collab arrives about a week after the release of patch 3.4, which brought more to the game than just content inspired by the visual novel.

Manage cookie settings

We’ve known for a while what to expect from today’s launch, thanks to a developer livestream that took place in June. Without question, one of the most-anticipated elements of the Fate/stay night is the pair of new guest characters.

First things first, the collaboration content won’t be going anywhere for a good long while; in fact, there’s no end date listed yet, although rumours have surfaced that it’ll last until at least November of this year.

Saber, from the Fate series, drops in Honkai: Star Rail as a 5-Star Wind/Destruction hero. Archer is another 5-Star addition, a Quantum/Hunt character instead. Archer is free for anyone who logs in during the collaboration event, whereas you’re going to have to pull to get Saber. Archer also comes with enough materials to get him to level 60.

The launch brings four special banners for Saber, Archer and their respective light cones. Interestingly, there are no boosted drop rates for 4-star characters or weapons on any of these banners, though you are guaranteed to get Saber’s light cone after 200 warps.

One other thing worth mentioning is that none of the Fate collaboration characters have English voice over, seemingly by design, which is particularly interesting given MiHoYo’s recent harsh stance against their US-based voice actors supporting the SAG-AFTRA video game strike.

Beyond that, you can also look forward to a new Trailblaze Continuance called Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail. And for the next 30 days – ending August 11 – you can take part in a limited-time event that’s basically a combat challenge. There are exclusive rewards you can earn right up until that date. The event content itself will later join the game’s Conventional Memoir for those who missed it, but several of the rewards are time-limited.

Earlier this month, the game added more playable characters that aren’t part of the Fate series. Phainon, who’s been an NPC in Honkai: Star Rail for a while now, joined the roster of playable characters. Phainon is likewise a 5-Star hero, with a Physical/Destruction speciality.

The first phase of reruns also arrived alongside 3.4 on July 2. We saw the return of Tribbie, Sunday, and Sparkle. Phase 2, which kicks off on July 23, will see the return of Firefly (who’s also getting a new outfit), Jingliu, and Blade.

Update 3.4 also introduced some upgrades to Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Blade, which took the form of enhanced game mechanics. The timing of Jingliu’s rerun is pretty good, too, considering her kit got an upgrade alongside those three.

10 Best PS2 Games Currently On PS Plus

10 Best PS2 Games Currently On PS Plus

The PS2 was the gift that kept on giving in the early and mid-2000s, with a prolific run giving birth to some amazing new IPs, while also allowing for some of the finest entries ever in long-running and uber-successful franchises.

10 Best PS2 Co-op Games, Ranked

Nothing beats retro classics with a friend.

It was the console that everyone wanted, and judging by sales figures, the one that everyone had. Which naturally means that even with the slew of modern games on offer these days, many gamers are still keen to jump back into older titles for a nice little blast from the past.

This is where the PS Plus Catalog comes in, as the classic collection has a wealth of iconic PS2 titles. Some may not be as eye-catching as others, but we have curated a list of all-killer, no-filler games, that warrant a revisit in 2025 and beyond.

We will only be considering original PS2 versions of games that live on the classics catalog. So remasters like Kingdom Hearts or Klonoa Phantasy Reverie won’t be listed here.

10

Dark Cloud

Sony’s Alleged Zelda Killer

Dark Cloud Screenshot

Back in the early days of the PS2, Sony was making moves to try and create their own Zelda to rival Link’s adventures on Nintendo consoles, which is what birthed the idea that would eventually become Dark Cloud.

Honestly, the Zelda-style dungeon crawling aspects don’t even come close to rivaling any 3D Zelda game. But, thanks to fun combat, an addictive gameplay loop, and an interesting town/city builder aspect that feels like something out of the Suikoden playbook, there’s plenty to love about this one, Zelda fan or not.

The weapon degradation system is a pain, and the dungeons can be a little repetitive. But, as a sum of its parts, Dark Cloud is actually a ray of sunshine, and a PS2 classic well worth diving into.

9

Summoner

A Rare PS2 Open World RPG

Combat in Summoner Ps2

It’s fair to say that the Western RPG genre was something that didn’t quite make the leap from PC to PS2 particularly well. JRPGs had a swell time on console, but it would take a long time before traditional RPGs would have their moment in the sun.

Games like Morrowind, Gothic, and many others were absent from the PS2 lineup, but a game boldly holding the line for RPGs everywhere in their absence was Summoner.

Offering tactical combat, a vast and open world, a summon system that could help or hinder you depending on how you fared in battle, and a gritty fantasy story, Summoner has it all. It’s a plucky title that walked so that games like Baldur’s Gate, Divinity and The Witcher could run. So, play it and give it the respect it deserves.

8

Timesplitters

About Time You Played

Timesplitters Game

While I would have absolutely preferred to place Timesplitters 2 on this list, we sadly only have the original on the lineup at the time of writing. That said, though, it’s a classic FPS title that goes to show that not all console FPS games of this era were objectively terrible. Just most of them.

Sure, it doesn’t have the campaign of your Goldeneyes or your Perfect Darks to ground the experience. But the missions are still quality outings, if a little random and disconnected. Plus, the gameplay is fast, fluid, and fun in all the ways that those aforementioned classic FPS hits were too.

Not to mention, this game had a robust level editor, which was pretty much unheard of back then. Which doubled up nicely with the quality local co-op to ensure you got out what you put in. It’s a little primitive, but even still, it’s one that true FPS fans will love.

7

Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

Strike Up The Cantina Band

PS2 Lego Star Wars

There are so many Lego games out there today, including a remake of this very game listed. But if you want to truly experience the best version of the Skywalker saga in Lego form, then you need to play the original.

It’s the classic Lego formula that has you solve puzzles, partake in accessible combat and platforming, and collect as many studs as you can. All the while role-playing as just about any of the major players this side of Tatooine.

The level design is much more straightforward, and the quintessential slapstick humor of the Lego games lands much more often in this version of the game. Sure, it’s a little less shiny and new, but there’s something about this game’s simplicity that makes it the better of the two.

6

Forbidden Siren

A Quite Literal Bloodbath

Forbidden Siren Enemy

When it comes to underrated horror gems, there aren’t many that deserve their props more than the original Forbidden Siren. A game that might look a little primitive by today’s horror standards. But even without high-fidelity gore, this game is creepy enough to keep you on your toes.

Zombies are one thing, but when you tweak that formula slightly to place the player in a village overrun with blood-cursed, demonically possessed townsfolk, the horror naturally elevates to another level.

Couple this with a gripping and tense plot, and the vulnerable nature of your character as you have to use sight-jacking powers to evade enemies, and you have something truly special. Alongside Silent Hill and Resident Evil, Forbidden Siren is one of the finest on the platform. No hyperbole, just facts.

5

Jak & Daxter: The Precursor’s Legacy

Mascot-Platforming Royalty

jak-and-daxter-precursor-legacy-smiling-daxter.jpg

Speaking of genre pedigree, there are few dynamic duos that can stand against the iconic pair of Jak and Daxter. Now, I know many will fight on this, as a lot of people prefer the GTA-esque sequel, which is also on the PS Plus Catalog. But for me, the original is still the best by a long shot.

It’s absent of that gritty, reluctant anti-hero shtick. It’s vibrant, whimsical, and oozing with charm, and above all, it feels much more like a traditional mascot platformer rather than a game trying to mash together Ratchet and Clank with Grand Theft Auto.

Don’t get me wrong, love them both. But across the series, The Precursor’s Legacy wins every time thanks to the amazing semi-open-world structure, the outstanding, memorable mini-games, and of course, Daxter’s one-liners when you kick the bucket.

4

Okage: Shadow King

Release Your Inner Demon

Okage Shadow King

The PS2 was a continuation of the breakout success of the JRPG genre on the PSX, and just as you had unsung heroes like Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve, the PS2 played host to its own cast of JRPG gems. Of which Okage: Shadow King was certainly one.

I’ll be honest, the JRPG mechanics, while serviceable, were nothing to write home about. But, where the game shines is in its visual style and its writing, as the game has a Tim Burton-esque, creepy but campy cartoon vibe. Not to mention, it’s a game that dares to shoot for humor, and hits the target more than it misses.

There’s something rather fun about fighting against the powers of evil while actively aiding and abetting a sleeping giant in the evil villain landscape. It’s a bold idea executed brilliantly, and it’s one that JRPG fans worth their salt should play.

3

Skygunner

An Alternate Persona

Skygunner Gameplay

We know ATLUS mainly for its collection of long-running and hugely successful JRPG franchises. But, alongside being masters of the JRPG realm, this team has also dabbled in the world of flight simulation, allowing you to take control of the skyships that have become a staple of multiple major JRPG franchises. So there’s your link, however tenuous it may be.

What’s great about this one is that, unlike typical aerial combat games of the era like Ace Combat, this game offers a more light-hearted tone, a more vibrant aesthetic, and, most importantly, gameplay that isn’t so much focused on realistic dogfighting as it is fun.

Picture an arcade flight simulator with a steampunk Studio Ghibli vibe, a colorful cast of characters, and gameplay that feels like Kingdom Hearts Gummi Ship missions on steroids, and that about sums up what’s in store if you choose to play Skygunner.

2

Rogue Galaxy

A Not-So-Rogue Inclusion

Rogue Galaxy Combat

There are quite a few genuinely magnificent JRPGs within the classics catalog, a few of which we have already mentioned. But, the pick of the bunch, where the PS2 line-up is concerned, has to be Rogue Galaxy.

Alongside offering an interstellar storyline worth absorbing, the game also provides players with a great cast of characters to get to know intimately, excellent real-time combat complete with unique features like weapon fusion systems. Plus, the game provides vast open planets to explore rather than repetitive dungeons.

This, combined with the fact that the visuals and score still hold up nicely today thanks to the game’s timeless cel-shaded art style and the wealth of side content in the form of fun mini-games, makes Rogue Galaxy a title well worth exploring in 2025.

1

Deus Ex: The Human Conspiracy

Immersive Sim Heritage

Deus Ex gameplay from Steam

Screw your Adam Jensen, I want JC Denton. If you’re someone who was massively into gaming around the turn of the millennium, then I reckon you’ll feel the same way.

This one might not be quite as smooth to play on console, as it was developed in an era when PCs were king and then ported to the PS2. But, even still, it’s a way to jump into an immersive sim that rivals the Thief series in terms of quality and pedigree.

Each mission is something that can be approached in any way you see fit, with an insane level of depth and flexibility, considering this was a game made way back in 2000.

It doesn’t have the flashy gunplay of Mankind Divided, for example. But with quality level design and immersive gameplay like this, you won’t miss it.

How To Unlock Pro Goals In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

How To Unlock Pro Goals In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has a lot of goals to complete across its many levels, whether it’s collecting the S-K-A-T-E letters, saving guy’s from a shark, or releasing a prisoner from Alcatraz. But did you know there are also Pro Goals to complete as well? And even some Platinum Medals, too? Here’s how to unlock them.

To unlock the Pro Goals in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, you first need to complete every single regular goal across all the levels in THPS3 and THPS4. That means finding every single tape, beating all of the scores, grabbing all the letters – everything! While a couple of them are tricky and might take some patience, you should get through these fairly easily overall.

Once you’ve wrapped up the very last goal, the Pro Goals will unlock, offering up even more things to do, such as collecting the C-O-M-B-O letters, which must be done in a single, unbroken combo. There are also the special Platinum Medals to get in the skate competitions. If you can beat every single one of these challenges, you’ll then unlock Solo Tours for the individual skaters, leading to hidden boards and more.

Below, you’ll find the complete list of goals for every single level. Have fun.

Ghost of Yōtei brings back Kurosawa Mode, adds new presentations inspired by more great Japanese directors

Ghost of Yōtei brings back Kurosawa Mode, adds new presentations inspired by more great Japanese directors

Sucker Punch Productions shared an extended look at PlayStation 5 game Ghost of Yōtei on Thursday during Sony’s Yōtei-specific State of Play. It offered future ghosts more details about Atsu’s weapons, her journey across Ezo, and new and returning presentation modes.

Ghost of Tsushima’s Kurosawa Mode was a wonderful homage to the great Akira Kurosawa, director of some of samurai cinema’s best films, like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, and it’ll return in Ghost of Yōtei. It features a black and white presentation, film grain, and Japanese dialogue with lip syncing.

The new presentation style, Takashi Miike Mode, puts the camera closer to the action and features more blood and mud during fights; Miike has directed a wide range of films, and western audiences might recognize best him from his 2013 samurai film 13 Assassins. Sucker Punch has also partnered with Samurai Champloo director Shinichirō Watanabe for a presentation mode that adds lo-fi beats to exploration and combat, for when you need a slightly more relaxed vibe in between Atsu’s revenge kills.

Thursday’s deep dive showcases new weapons — dual katanas, ōdachi, and kusarigama — in action. Atsu can switch between them on the fly during combat, and can disarm opponents during fights — or be disarmed herself. Exploration was a focus in the trailer; like in Tsushima, Atsu can follow wildlife to discover hidden areas. Sucker Punch also emphasized Yōtei’s Elden Ring-like discoverability, encouraging players to travel to cool areas off in the distance to see what they might have in store.

Limited Edition Ghost of Yōtei-themed consoles and controllers were shown off at the end of the presentation. The console plates showcase Mount Yōtei while the controllers feature Atsu.

While retaining the Ghost title, Ghost of Yōtei isn’t a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima; it takes place 300 years after the first game and is set in a different part of Japan, Ezo (now called Hokkaido). Ghost of Yōtei follows new protagonist Atsu as she sets out for vengeance against those who killed her family, called the Yōtei Six. As she wracks up a body count, both from her Yōtei Six targets and from bounties you can take on, Atsu will fully embrace the Ghost persona. Ghost of Yōtei will offer more narrative freedom for the player than the first game as you’ll be able to take down the Yōtei Six in any order of your choosing.

Grab Lego Monkey Palace Board Game For $15 At Amazon While You Can

Grab Lego Monkey Palace Board Game For At Amazon While You Can

Earlier this week, we covered a great deal on the officially licensed Lego Monkey Palace board game. The fast-paced strategy game was–and still is–$24 for Target Circle Week. Amazon was matching Target’s deal, but now it is offering a much better one during Prime Day. You can snag a copy of Lego Monkey Palace for only $15, a new all-time low.

Monkey Palace is a fun tabletop game that turns the act of connecting Lego bricks into a fast-paced and varied strategy game for 2-4 players. Created by Bezzerwizzer in collaboration with Lego, Monkey Palace released last October and often sells for close to its full $40 MSRP.

Since this isn’t officially marked as one of Amazon’s Prime Day board game deals, all shoppers can take advantage of the $25 price cut; you don’t need to be a Prime member.

The game is recommended for players ages 10 and up, but younger players with experience building Lego can enjoy the loop, too. My four-year-old regularly builds and modifies Lego Super Mario playsets, and he enjoys Monkey Palace. We have to help him at times with strategy, but that hasn’t stopped Monkey Palace from becoming one of his favorite board games.

Monkey Palace certainly isn’t the first officially licensed Lego board game, but it is the only one still in print at the moment. Older Lego board games tend to be listed for rather high prices on reseller storefronts, so it’d be wise to add Monkey Palace to your collection sooner rather than later, especially since it’s on sale for so cheap.

Monkey Palace: A Lego Board Game
Monkey Palace: A Lego Board Game

Monkey Palace is just one of many strategy board games available for reduced prices this week. Another highlight from the sale is Catan 6th Edition, which launched in April and has received its first discount. Our story on the Catan deal includes a big list family-friendly board game deals that are worth checking out.

Amazon also has a handful of notable deals on Lego building sets, but you should also browse the Lego promotions at Target and Walmart, as both retailers have a more varied selection of impressive deals.

Herra 47 : Midsummer Festival – A Leisure Suit Larry-like experience for the C64 by Vector5 Games!

Herra 47 : Midsummer Festival – A Leisure Suit Larry-like experience for the C64 by Vector5 Games!

While the latest news about Leisure Suit Larry: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards coming to the C64 was a huge hit for the website, there was another game that’s well worth checking out if you want some Larry-like goodness right now, and it’s Vector5 Games ‘Herra 47 : Midsummer Festival’. A new game that one of our readers even went as far as saying, ” pretty much the blueprint for a Sierra style adventure! It has much less text and perhaps a bit less complexity but it clearly shows, this can be done”. To coincide with this news, make sure to check out the latest footage below! Oh and thanks for the heads up readers, tis a good game indeed ;).

And while the game features 39 rooms to explore, 3 mini-games a unique story, plenty of low-grade humor and even a save/load game system (disk/cartridge) all set in that awesome classic Sierra designed goodness. Here’s the story in brief “amidst all the preparations and the anticipation of reuniting with familiar faces, Herra 47 harbors a personal aspiration for this Midsummer Festival. Beyond the joy of hosting and celebrating, he secretly hopes to find a meaningful connection, a Midsummer companion to share the warmth of the bonfire and the magic of the long summer nights”.

Arkane’s Next Game (Blade?) Is In Full Production

Arkane’s Next Game (Blade?) Is In Full Production

Back in 2023, Arkane Studios announced it was working on Blade, a new game based on Marvel’s badass vampire hunter of the same name. Since then we have heard almost nothing about the game or its projected release date, leading most to believe it is still years way. And now we know that’s almost certainly true, thanks to Arkane’s latest financial result.

It was an X user by the name of Timur222 that read through the financial reported and noted that “The production phase of the AAA game project was launched at the end of 2024, following prototype validation.”

Now, the financial document in question doesn’t specifically mention Blade, so there is a chance it’s something else. Perhaps Dishonored 3? But the likelihood is that it’s Blade, as that’s currently the only game officially announced by Arkane to be in development. Deathloop 2 could also be a possibility, I suppose.

Whatever it is, if it’s only just entered production, it’s likely at least a few years away. In other words, we’re probably looking at late 2026, early 2027 at the very least, but it’s far more likely to be 2028 onwards.

If it is Blade, then it’s yet another case of a developer/publisher announcing projects too early.
