AI Coding Assistants Showdown: ChatGPT vs Cursor.ai vs Windsurf

AI-powered coding assistants no longer represent optional productivity boosters—they’ve become integral components of modern development workflows. However, choosing the right AI tool requires understanding not just their capabilities, but how they align with your specific development patterns and project requirements.

After extensive hands-on experience with the three leading AI coding platforms—ChatGPT, Cursor.ai, and Windsurf—clear patterns emerge in their strengths, limitations, and optimal use cases. This analysis provides practical insights to help developers make informed decisions about which tools deserve space in their development arsenal.

The Current State of AI-Powered Development

AI coding assistants have evolved beyond simple code completion tools. Today’s platforms offer sophisticated capabilities including contextual code generation, architectural guidance, debugging assistance, and even project planning support. However, each platform approaches these challenges with distinct philosophies and technical implementations.

The key differentiator lies not in raw AI capability—most platforms leverage similar underlying language models—but in how they integrate AI assistance into existing development workflows. Some prioritize versatility and general-purpose problem-solving, while others focus on deep codebase integration and contextual awareness.

ChatGPT: The Versatile Problem-Solving Companion

ChatGPT represents the Swiss Army knife approach to AI assistance. Built on GPT-4 Turbo, it excels at general-purpose problem-solving that extends far beyond code generation. Its strength lies in versatility—the same session can handle code debugging, architectural discussions, documentation writing, and even project planning tasks.

Core Strengths

Conceptual Problem-Solving: ChatGPT shines when developers encounter unfamiliar concepts or need to explore new approaches. Whether you’re learning a new framework, understanding complex algorithms, or brainstorming implementation strategies, ChatGPT provides clear explanations and multiple perspectives.

Cross-Domain Flexibility: Unlike specialized coding tools, ChatGPT seamlessly transitions between technical and non-technical tasks. You can debug a Python script, then immediately pivot to writing project documentation or crafting team communications.

Rapid Prototyping Support: For exploring new libraries, understanding syntax patterns, or quickly testing implementation approaches, ChatGPT delivers fast, contextually relevant responses without requiring project setup or configuration.

Optimal Use Cases

ChatGPT proves most valuable in scenarios requiring broad knowledge application rather than deep codebase understanding:

Best Practices

Maximize ChatGPT effectiveness by framing problems clearly and providing context about your goals rather than simply pasting code blocks. The model responds better to problem descriptions than raw code dumps, producing more targeted and useful solutions.

Cursor.ai: The Context-Aware Development Environment

Cursor represents a fundamentally different approach—rather than adding AI features to existing workflows, it rebuilds the development environment around AI assistance. This creates a more integrated experience where AI suggestions feel native rather than bolted-on.

Core Strengths

Contextual Code Understanding: Cursor maintains awareness of your current file, recent edits, and project structure. This contextual understanding enables more relevant suggestions and reduces the need for lengthy explanations when requesting assistance.

Seamless Workflow Integration: AI assistance happens within the development flow rather than requiring context switches to external tools. Code generation, refactoring suggestions, and debugging help appear directly in your editing environment.

Intelligent Code Completion: Beyond simple autocomplete, Cursor provides context-aware code generation that understands local patterns, variable names, and coding styles specific to your project.

Optimal Use Cases

Cursor excels in active development scenarios where maintaining context and flow matters most:

Feature Development: Building new functionality within existing codebases while maintaining consistency with established patterns

Windsurf: The Deep Codebase Intelligence Platform

Windsurf takes a unique approach by focusing specifically on large, complex codebases where understanding historical context and cross-file relationships becomes critical. Rather than general-purpose assistance, it specializes in helping developers navigate and understand substantial existing code.

Core Strengths

Historical Code Analysis: Windsurf indexes your repository history, understanding how code evolved over time. It can explain why specific changes were made, how bugs emerged, and what previous developers intended with particular implementations.

Cross-Repository Understanding: The platform maps relationships across files, dependencies, and modules, providing insights that would typically require extensive manual exploration or tribal knowledge from senior team members.

Organizational Knowledge Capture: By connecting with GitHub or GitLab repositories, Windsurf captures and makes searchable the kind of institutional knowledge that usually exists only in senior developers’ minds.

Optimal Use Cases

Windsurf proves most valuable in scenarios involving large, established codebases with complex interdependencies:

Legacy Code Maintenance: Understanding and modifying code written by previous team members or inherited from other organizations

Team Onboarding: Accelerating new developer productivity by providing instant access to codebase context and historical decisions

Impact Analysis: Assessing the potential effects of proposed changes across large, interconnected systems

Code Review Enhancement: Understanding the context and implications of proposed changes during review processes

Pricing Structure

Currently operating on an invitation-only model with team-based pricing tailored for engineering organizations and product teams.

Best Practices

Maximize Windsurf’s value by asking questions that leverage its unique historical and cross-codebase understanding: “Where is this method used throughout the system?” or “What was the reasoning behind this architectural decision?” These queries tap into capabilities unavailable in general-purpose AI tools.

All Elden Ring Nightreign character classes announced so far

All Elden Ring Nightreign character classes announced so far

Elden Ring Nightreign may look familiar in many ways, but FromSoftware’s stand-alone multiplayer spinoff of Elden Ring will play differently thanks to its battle-royale-inspired map and a roster of playable characters. Unlike the blank-slate, highly customizable characters of the original Elden Ring, the playable heroes of Nightreign — known as Nightfarers — are predefined characters with class roles — think rogues, sorcerers, barbarians, archers, and mages.

There will be eight confirmed Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign. Here’s a guide to everything we know about all Nightreign’s character classes announced so far plus gameplay video of them in action. We’ll update this guide as more information becomes available.

The Duchess is “a nimble fighter who specializes in stealth and prefers daggers,” according to her official description. She’s essentially the rogue of the group, a speedy glass cannon who fights with quick, up-close slashes, and can provide crucial combat support to her team. If you’re a dexterity-focused Elden Ring player, she’s your Nightfarer.

Magnificent Poise: Dodge and attack swiftly with reduced stamina cost. Allows up to two consecutive evasive actions.

Restage: Reapply the last few seconds of team damage to enemies.

Finale: Obscure nearby allies to hide from foes. Enemies lose track of the caster (and her allies), wandering aimlessly or becoming prone to leaving themselves vulnerable. Basically, it’s an invisibility spell.

The Guardian is a “pinionfolk captain” — a flying birdman, in other words — who is skilled in offense and defense, and who prefers halberds, poking enemies from behind the cover of a heavy shield.

Steel Guard: Plants his feet and braces with his shield raised for a more powerful guard. Greatly improves guard boost, but prevents running while holding up shield.

Whirlwind: Guardian beats his wings to summon a cyclone that draws in enemies, knocking them off their feet. Whirlwind can be charged to enlarge its range and can repel light projectiles

Wings of Salvation: Dive from above to attack a large area and protect allies from damage. While in the air, Guardian can move briefly.

Iron Eye is an archer class with “split-second judgment and pinpoint accuracy.” If you like bows (and giant bows), Iron Eye’s your guy.

Eagle Eye: His keen observation increases drops from downed enemies — allies get the same boost.

Marking: Marks enemies to create a temporary weak point. Iron Eye cuts his foe with a dagger, creating a temporary weak point. Inflicting damage on that weak point to damage and stagger foes. Damaging the weak point extends its duration.

Single Shot: Shoots a supersonic arrow that pierces any defense. Single Shot pierces all types of enemies, terrain, and structures.

Raider is a “powerful sea-farer who favors enormous weapons.” If you like walking around with a giant sword, axe, or hammer, and playing offense, you’re a Raider.

Fighter’s Resolve: Taking damage boosts the potency of Raider’s character skill, Retaliate. He cannot be knocked down while using it, and will stay in the fight with a sliver of HP even after taking heavy damage.

Retaliate: Assume a defensive posture that reduces incoming damage and unleash a vigorous punch that can stagger large enemies.

Totem Stela: Summons a giant tombstone that deals damage, boosts nearby allies, and can be climbed and used as a platform. The tombstone radiates a protective aura, boosting strength of nearby allies, and blocking arrows.

Keep your distance as the Recluse, a witch of the deep forest who deftly wields ancient sorceries. Elden Ring players who focus on intelligence builds will gravitate toward the Recluse.

Elemental Defense: Collect elemental residues to replenish FP, and grant allies residues of specific elemental affinities.

Magic Cocktail: Combine elemental resides into different powerful spells. Collect the affinity residues of targets to unleash an affinity-exploiting magic cocktail. Complex affinity combinations create more powerful spells.

Soulblood Song: Brand foes with temporary blood sigils that increase damage taken by enemies. Those sigils also restore the HP and FP of caster.

Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco

The Wylder is your classic all-rounder, with well-balanced abilities and easy-to-handle skills. Probably a good starting point in Nightreign before specializing.

Sixth Sense: Cheat death a single time. Can be restored by dying or passing through a Site of Grace.

Claw Shot: Launch a grappling claw to rope in foes or move swiftly. Only certain enemies can be pulled in with Claw Shot, but it’s effective at breaking guard.

Onslaught Stake: A powerful single attack that launches an iron stake with a great explosion.

Official details on the Executor Nightfarer are forthcoming, but the class appears to borrow from FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, with a focus on deflection and Faith-based skills.

We also don’t know much about the Revenant, but it appears to fill the role of healer.

Motsi Mabuse on ‘daily fight’ to ‘shut down’ her inner ‘negative voice’

    0
Motsi Mabuse on ‘daily fight’ to ‘shut down’ her inner ‘negative voice’

Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse started dancing competitively in the late 1990s.

And, during those early days, 44-year-old Motsi has previously revealed she struggled with her weight.

The star – on a repeat of Deal or No Deal with sister Oti today (May 17) – has been open about the criticism she’s received over the years with regards to her appearance.

And, despite putting her competitive dancing days behind her, Motsi has admitted she hasn’t shaken the pressure, as a dancer, to look a certain way or conform to a certain body type.

Motsi’s on-screen persona is unwaveringly smiley, but her life hasn’t been without struggle (Credit: The Great British Bake Off/YouTube)

Motsi Mabuse on daily struggle against pressure to conform

The eldest of the two Mabuse sisters lives in Germany. She runs a dance school there, and remembers arriving in the country “with plastic bags and a 50p coin”. She’ll “never forget that feeling,” she has said. Nor will she be able to leave behind the “negative voice” inside her head when it comes to her appearance.

“It’s still there,” she told the Mirror in 2023. “The seed is sown when you start in the industry and it grows when you’re dancing. You have to stop it yourself and be like: ‘This is not realistic and you can’t look that way.’ Being able to shut down that negative voice is a daily fight.”

Dance teacher’s shock instruction and relationship with WeightWatchers

In separate interview, Motsi described her weight as a constant struggle.

“There’s so much focus not just on winning, but what you weigh,” she said.

A teacher once told her to lose weight when she only weighed 50kg. According to the NHS’ BMI calculator, a person of Motsi’s height (1.6m) weighing in at 50kg has a BMI firmly within the healthy category.

“Naturally, my body has changed since then, and my weight goes up and down.”

In a sad admission, Motsi said she believes she’ll “never get to the stage where I think I look great, but I’m now much more compassionate towards myself. A healthy mind, body and soul is more important to being thin.”

WeightWatchers published a feature on her weight-loss journey on its website in late 2020. She joined the organisation in her early twenties, and talked about having lost 14kg in two years.

The company recently filed for bankruptcy in the US amid a boom in fat-loss jabs

Motsi and Oti Mabuse’s episode of Deal or No Deal is on ITV1 Saturday May 17 at 7.15pm.

Why Britain’s Got Talent’s live semi-final has been pulled by ITV tonight

      0
Why Britain’s Got Talent’s live semi-final has been pulled by ITV tonight

The semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent have been gripping the nation, Saturday by Saturday, but this weekend’s bonanza – expected to air tonight (May 17) – has been rescheduled.

Recent talking points include Bruno Tonioli pressing his golden buzzer for singer Jasmine Rice.

Amanda Holden is in hot water… again… over “rude” behaviour towards dance act Harry & Lewis. No smoke without fire? You decide.

And operatic legend Paul Potts has lambasted the show for being “unexciting” while issuing Simon Cowell with a stern warning. Yikes.

Jasmine Rice brought Bruno Tonioli to tears with her semi-final performance (Credit: Britain’s Got Talent/YouTube)

Why Britain’s Got Talent has been moved tonight

Britain’s Got Talent has been airing weekly on Saturdays this year, in a bid to turn it into more of an event each week.

The third semi-final took place on Saturday, May 10, and saw Ping Pong Pang and Jasmine Rice soar through to the grand finale.

The fourth semi-final, which would normally have aired on Saturday, May 17, has been rescheduled. It will air on Sunday, May 18, instead.

Why? Well, ITV is showing live coverage of the FA Cup final earlier on in the day and, should it run over with extra time and penalties, the BGT live show would need to be pushed back.

So, better to be safe than sorry, Britain’s Got Talent has been moved from tonight to tomorrow night.

Judges give a standing ovation on Britain's Got Talent

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions so far this year, and it’s not over yet! (Credit: Britain’s Got Talent/YouTube)

      Eurovision is also on

As well as that, the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest is also on the other side – so could it be that ITV doesn’t want the competition when it comes to viewing figures…?

All the acts so far confirmed for the BGT 2025 final

Six acts have already made it through to the BGT 2025 final.

Drag diva Jasmine Rice impressed the judges with her performance of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. Bruno Tonioli golden-buzzed her through to the final last week.

Self-described “ping pong dance revolution” performance group Ping Pong Pang beat fellow semifinalists Electric Umbrella and Albert Amores to win the public vote, putting them through to the grand finale.

Vinnie McKee is through. He’s a singer-songwriter from Liverpool who also works as a bingo caller.

Swedish dance group The Blackouts got a full house of golden buzzers earlier in the competition, and another from Amanda Holden during their semifinal. They’re through.

Olly Pearson, the 11-year-old Mancunian rockstar, blew audiences away during his semifinal with a medley of AC/DC, Guns And Roses and Bon Jovi tracks.

And Yorkshire singer Stacey Leadbeatter, golden-buzzed by KSI, performed a gorgeous rendition of Leona Lewis’ version of Run, by Snow Patrol, during her semifinal. She’s through.

Eight-year-old magician Teddy Magic, however, won’t appear after he pulled out of the live shows.

Two more will be decided this weekend. Will you be watching?

BGT is on Sunday May 18 at 7pm on ITV1.

Leading 3 Cryptos With Big Upcoming Moves: BlockDAG, Cardano, Toncoin

Leading 3 Cryptos With Big Upcoming Moves: BlockDAG, Cardano, Toncoin

In a market driven by speculation, updates, and timing, nothing catches attention quite like a major upcoming reveal. Crypto investors looking for the next surge often chase coins with concrete, short-term catalysts that can trigger sharp upward movement. That’s where the phrase “crypto with big upcoming” becomes a guiding keyword for 2025’s sharpest eyes.

With BlockDAG locking in a massive reveal for June, and heavy hitters like Cardano and Toncoin rolling out high-impact upgrades, investors now have three power plays worth tracking.

      1. BlockDAG (BDAG): GO LIVE Reveal Could Change Everything

BlockDAG is stealing the spotlight as the crypto with big upcoming events, thanks to its anticipated GO LIVE reveal scheduled for June 13. This isn’t just another update, it’s a major public unveiling of 20 confirmed exchange listings, expanded from the originally promised 10. Five leading names are already public: MEXC, LBank, CoinStore, XT.com, and BitMart. The identities of the remaining 15 will stay under wraps until reveal day, building suspense and speculative hype across the crypto community.

The current presale fundraising stands at close to $255 million, with batch 28 ongoing and the price frozen at $0.0020 until June 13. This limited-time pricing comes with powerful context. BlockDAG has achieved a staggering 2,520% ROI since batch 1, and over 20.6 billion coins have already been sold. The GO LIVE reveal is expected to dramatically shift pricing as the open market takes control after the announcement.

      1. BlockDAG (BDAG): GO LIVE Reveal Could Change Everything

But it’s not just talk. BlockDAG’s credibility is further reinforced by action, miner shipments are officially in progress, and user-generated unboxing content will soon flood social platforms. This commitment to real-world utility offers a firm counterbalance to speculation. Add to that the surging activity in Buyer Battles and a referral program paying out up to 25% in bonuses, and BlockDAG presents a compelling case as the leading crypto with big upcoming moves that could deliver exponential upside.

      2. Cardano (ADA): Governance Overhaul After the Hard Fork

Cardano has always been a project that plays the long game, and it’s now entering a crucial phase of its roadmap that many investors have been anticipating. Following the latest hard fork, Cardano is preparing to roll out a comprehensive decentralized governance system. This includes on-chain voting, treasury management, and wider participation from ADA holders in protocol-level decisions.

What makes this one of the standout cryptos with big upcoming events is the potential shift in how Cardano operates. With the governance update, Cardano aims to deliver on the long-promised model of self-sustaining decentralization, a benchmark that many projects talk about but few achieve. If successful, this move could significantly boost investor confidence and attract more institutional attention.

      2. Cardano (ADA): Governance Overhaul After the Hard Fork2. Cardano (ADA): Governance Overhaul After the Hard Fork

While ADA hasn’t been in the spotlight recently, these structural developments could reset its trajectory. Investors seeking long-term plays with strong fundamentals should be watching Cardano’s rollout closely, especially as the broader market begins to favor governance transparency and protocol autonomy.

      3. Toncoin (TON): Telegram’s Favorite Eyes a Comeback

Toncoin is another crypto with a major event on the horizon. After a stormy past involving regulatory heat and a near-abandoned project status, Toncoin is rallying back with the help of a massive, loyal community, much of it drawn from the Telegram user base. In fact, the integration of TON into Telegram’s ecosystem is the real story here.

The buzz surrounding TON’s recovery and use-case expansion is growing, and investors are watching closely for signs of official Telegram feature adoption that may cement TON’s utility. In short, if Telegram formally backs Toncoin as its native transaction layer for micro-payments, tipping, or subscriptions, the token could experience a breakout moment.

      3. Toncoin (TON): Telegram’s Favorite Eyes a Comeback3. Toncoin (TON): Telegram’s Favorite Eyes a Comeback

The current phase is all about community coordination and infrastructure development, but the road ahead could include announcements that trigger a reevaluation of Toncoin’s value. For those scanning the market for crypto with big upcoming inflection points, TON is on the radar as one to monitor in the second half of the year.

      Final Say

As the market readies for its next breakout cycle, timing is everything. Investors are no longer chasing hype alone, they’re eyeing projects with tangible catalysts. That’s exactly what defines a crypto with big upcoming momentum.

      Final Say Final Say

BlockDAG leads the pack with its June 13 GO LIVE reveal, setting the stage for a potentially explosive transition from presale pricing to market-driven valuation. Cardano follows with governance shifts that could redefine decentralized project management, while Toncoin builds quietly but confidently toward a Telegram-integrated use case. Each has a high-stakes milestone in the pipeline, and for investors hunting returns, the time to position is now.

Bold and the Beautiful: Liam Sends Hope On a Collision Course Next Week?

Bold and the Beautiful: Liam Sends Hope On a Collision Course Next Week?

Bold and the Beautiful leaves Hope Logan a mess after learning Liam Spencer doesn’t have long to live on the CBS soap. Hope promised not to tell Liam she knows he is dying. But her behavior became a dead giveaway for Liam. He figured it out almost instantly that she knew about his looming death on the CBS soap.

But as Hope Logan and Liam Spencer talk about the future, Carter Walton happens to show up at the door just in time to hear that talk. But he has no idea of the context of their conversation. So, this leaves it wide open for a major injustice, which is about to happen to Hope Logan.

Bold and the Beautiful: Liam Spencer Pushes Hope Logan to Carter Walton

Bold and the Beautiful has Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) as a desperate guy. He wants to get Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) back. But we will soon see if the aftermath of his eavesdropping outside Hope’s door leads him to a point of no return.

After hearing Hope tell Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) they should spend their future together, Carter becomes hurt and angry.

Bold and the Beautiful has Liam pushing Hope Logan toward Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor). This is what Carter first heard with his ear to Hope’s door. And it brought a smile to his face hearing Liam advocating for him.

But it wasn’t until Hope Logan spoke that he became visibly upset in this Bold and Beautiful scene. Instead of Hope agreeing with Liam and professing her love for Carter, Hope talks about her future belonging with Liam.

B&B: Carter Walton Jumps to Conclusions About Hope

Carter is unaware of a major piece to this puzzle on Bold and the Beautiful – Liam is dying. So, yeah, Hope feels her place is with Liam for the rest of his future, which is what Carter heard. But he doesn’t know how short that future is.

And Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) also feels a need to be with him, but she has no intention of trading Finn in for Liam. So, that is probably what Hope meant and what Carter misunderstood… but is it too late by the time things get cleared up?

Bold and the Beautiful: Carter Walton (Lawrence St Victor) - Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) - Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire)
        B&B | CBS

Carter goes back to Forrester Creations, hurt and devastated over what he heard Hope say to Liam. And who is there ready to help him through his pain? None other than Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire). But Carter’s sudden change of heart confuses Daphne. Just an hour or two before, Daphne had warned Carter about Hope likely going back to Liam after talking to employees at FC.

Carter had stormed out on Daphne, but now he is back, and The Bold and the Beautiful previews suggest he is interested in her this time around. It looks like Carter is about to make a huge mistake next week.

Bold and the Beautiful: One Door Shuts Gently – But the Other Slams Hard

Bold and the Beautiful has Liam Spencer expecting to spend the rest of his time left with Hope, Steffy, and their daughters. But he is also happy that the two women he loves have good men who love them, and he would never interfere with that.

So, Liam lets Hope down gently about not being a couple again. But he still wants her in his future, just as he wants Steffy in his life until the end. Before Carter finds out that Liam is dying and realizes the real scoop on what Hope was saying that day he overheard them talking, he likely rebounds with Daphne.

Bold and the Beautiful seemed to be gearing up to send Hope Logan over to Carter’s house just as Carter and Daphne take the plunge. Liam Spencer urges Hope to go to Carter and tell him she is hurt but she loves him. At the same time, Carter spills his pain to Daphne about Hope just using him after what he heard her say to Liam. He aldo says he almost messed up his life for her with that takeover. So, now he blames Hope for the FC coup.

Next, this looks like it becomes a Bold and the Beautiful collision with Hope finding Daphne and Carter together. This makes it a door shut very hard in Hope’s face. Unless Carter’s love for Hope holds him back and saves the day, it looks like one painful scene for Hope Logan next week, stumbling on Carter and Daphne on the CBS soap.

How Crypto Fight Night Became the Industry’s Premier Networking Event – Decrypt

How Crypto Fight Night Became the Industry’s Premier Networking Event – Decrypt

        In brief

Crypto Fight Night pits traders and industry influencers against each other amid crypto conferences.
It started as a “social experiment” coming out of the pandemic, but now has its own production team.
The promotion has spawned a number of viral moments and become a networking hub amid busy crypto events.

Two light heavyweight titans brawled it out in what, by all accounts, was a violent and enjoyable fight. But the crowd didn’t explode like other fight events I’ve attended when Tiko—who has a sizable following on social media—TKO’d his opponent in the second round with a ferocious overhand right.

Looking across the attendees in the hall and speaking to Crypto Fight Night’s founder, it’s clear that this is more than just a night of influencer boxing. Instead, it’s a premier networking event held during crypto conferences with the hopes of making the industry feel less antagonistic, or player vs. player—despite the obvious irony.

To many, Crypto Fight Night is a welcome change from the mixers that dominated the week of Token2049 that have no ice breaker or distraction aside from alcohol. Awkward silences are replaced by devastating knockouts, and tactical chess battles are suddenly an opportunity to pitch your business to the person sitting next to you.

        How it all began

Crypto Fight Night started as a “hobby” and sort of “social experiment” coming out of the pandemic, said co-founder Rahul Suri, an entrepreneur and investor based in Dubai. After a year of not being able to connect with people in-person, Suri set out to bring together friends he’d met online, all under one roof, to connect with a sports event as the backdrop.

“The first one was insane. There were so many people [I] met for the first time, people who were just nicknames and avatars, and now they’re a real person with a real name,” he told Decrypt. “The experience of Crypto Fight Night is highly networking-focused. I find it’s a lot more organic to network at a sports event than it is in other formats.”

For the first two events, Suri tapped established production teams led by two-time world professional boxing champ Amir Khan, then later Frank Warren of the prestigious Queensbury Promotions. While successful, the organization kicked things into third gear for it next event by hiring a team to handle matchmaking, production, logistics, marketing, and the rest.

Now on its ninth event, the organization has grown through a number of viral moments—none bigger than when crypto influencer titans Bitboy and Ansem faced off in the ring in December 2024.

Both fighters gave it a valiant effort, but their cardio levels failed them—so much so that Bitboy was forced to take a puff of an inhaler and put on an oxygen mask. He wasn’t disqualified due to the fight being under exhibition rules, ultimately creating an image that has become canonical for any crypto memer.

A unique challenge in the influencer fighting space is ensuring that fighters are equally matched, despite their lack of experience. As such, Suri said he’s composed a team of four dedicated matchmakers, and claims to sometimes bring in external matchmakers with experience at professional MMA organizations PFL and Bellator.

Angus Jenkins was the sole matchmaker for the influencer fights at the Hong Kong event in February, with previous experience found in boxing management, journalism, and social media. For that event, he watched previous fights if they’d had any, and reviewed sparring and pad work footage sent by fighters in order to craft match-ups.

“The main [challenge] is convincing very wealthy Web3 influencers and entrepreneurs to take time from their daily grind to get punched in the face on a big stage,” Jenkins told Decrypt. “There’s a lot on the line, as they’re already successful, and stepping on the stage is an opportunity but also a risk.”

        Player vs. player

Suri believes that boxing naturally translates to a crypto audience, due to the innate player vs. player nature of trading. After months of tirelessly battling over capital in the meme coin trenches, the industry gathers to break bread as influencers bloody each other in the background.

Before, during, and after the fight, a continuous murmur of conversation can be heard throughout the hall. Most of the time, it appears that attendees aren’t all that fussed with what is happening inside the ring, instead more focused on establishing a connection with the people next to them.

This networking ethos runs throughout Crypto Fight Week, in the lead-up to the fights. Suri said that the organization hosted an exclusive 100-person event on the pre-fight Monday for fighters, sponsors, and ambassadors to network. The weigh-ins before the fights are also designed in an “open format” to promote networking.

        Stairs of Troy Dubai.

The Dubai event was a throwback to the organization’s roots, Suri said, as it was hosted in the same venue that CFN’s second and third events were held—Troy Dubai. The venue was formatted as a “VIP show,” segregating attendees with basic tickets from those with more exclusive access.

“I always felt that these are some of the most electric nights,” Suri told Decrypt.

While Crypto Fight Night might not be the event for die-hard fight fanatics—it certainly didn’t match up to Fury vs. Usyk—it definitely acted as an alluring social lubricant in the middle of a busy crypto conference week.

“We somehow stumbled upon a way of making Crypto Fight Night, very simply, cool,” Suri told Decrypt. “Now, as we scale it and grow it, we continuously try not to go away from that one element. And, as long as it stays cool and as long as it stays fun, we’re having a good time.”

Insider Teases Injustice 3: Netherealms’ Next Move

Insider Teases Injustice 3: Netherealms’ Next Move

It seems like Netherealms might be returning to the Injustice universe for a 3rd game, eight years after Injustice 2. Well, that’s what an insider appears to be teasing, at any rate.

Multiversusie was a notable leaker of all tings Multiverse, Warner Brother’s doomed cross-franchise fighting game. Multiversusie seemed to have a very reliable source for the game, indicating someone inside either the development team or Warner Brothers was slipping information.

Now, though, Multiversusie seems to be hinting that the developers of the Mortal Kombat series are returning to the Injustice games. In a tweet on X, Multiversusie described as the shuttering of Multiversus as an “injustice” and then went on to use the term twice more.

“multiversus shutting down is an injustice, then doing it all again is another injustice leaving me without any leaks is yet again another injustice”

Then Multiversusie replied to the tweet, simply saying: “3”

The hint seems to be quite clear: Injustice 3 is happening.

        https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

It would be an interesting move for Netherealms. Mortal Kombat is by far its biggest series, with Mortal Kombat 11 selling over 15 million copies. However, Netherealms opted to follow that up with another MK game straight away in 2024. Mortal Kombat 1 introduced yet another timeline into the series. Earlier this year, we learned that it has sold over 5 million copies, which is still impressive but seems slower than MK11, indicating some series fatigue. Mortal Kombat 1’s expansion was also reported to have done very poorly. In fact, it was rumoured to have done so badly that it resulted in a future story expansion being canned.

Fans are also under the impression that support for Mortal Kombat 1 is over due to the release of a complete edition that bundles all of the content together into one package.

It makes sense why Netherealm and Warner Brothers wants to return to Injustice, then. However, the DC fighting game series has historically not sold anywhere near as well. No official figures were released, but Injustice 2 was estimate to have sold 2-3 million copies. Keep in mind that DC also takes its cut of the sales.

If there truly is Mortal Kombat fatigue, though, then Netherealm may not have a choice. Making another Mortal Kombat might result in even lower sales, and right now Warner Brothers is already struggling and has even consider selling its gaming division. Netherealm can’t simply do nothing, and they don’t have any other franchises to work on unless they want to resurrect a Mortal Kombat spin-off like Shaolin Monks. That leaves them with either making a brand-new IP or go back to Injustice.
