5 Reasons Why Genesis Is Taking The Luxury Car Market By Storm

Genesis is a Korean brand that branched off from its Hyundai in 2015 and has taken the international automotive market by storm. As the only luxury brand born from a Korean company, Genesis is proud of its distinctive heritage and infuses much of its culture into the purchasing experience and customer relationship.

Genesis is experiencing a very rapid pace of sales growth. In July of this year, the company marked its best-ever monthly U.S. sales achievement with 6,300 units vehicles, representing a 22% increase over July of last year. In 2023 alone, the company says it has already hit a sales record in terms of cars sold for the first half of the year.

Among its different models are the G70 sport sedan, G80 executive sedan, the flagship G90 sedan, all-electric GV60 SUV, GV70 SUV and GV80 SUV. The GV60 is its first, fully-dedicated electric vehicle although it offers all-electric models of the G80 and GV70. Here are five reasons why Genesis vehicles are worth exploring if you are looking for a new luxury vehicle.

The design

Genesis had the opportunity to essentially build a new brand from scratch by rethinking what they wanted in a high-performance, luxury market vehicle.

The most popular model in the U.S. is the G70 SUV with its sweptback, coupe-like roof line showing off a level of athletic elegance. An immediately noticeable feature of many Genesis vehicles are the dual-line head and tail lamps that give it an almost sportscar-like look. The crest-style grille makes it instantly recognizable, and this is where the hidden charging point is on the electrified G70, which can reach 429 horsepower in no time (push the “boost” button if you really want to floor it!). The car also comes in a twin V6 engine that can reach 375 horsepower.

Inside, the vehicle relies on a simplistic, yet functional, design. A variety of pairings is available for the leather and dashboard accents, many of which bear color names influenced by global destinations. The inspiration for the look actually comes from athletic leisure wear, underlining the brand’s commitment to being a more casual style of luxury vehicle and appeal to a broader audience.

Air vents are slim, yet powerful, and the heads up display behind the steering wheel (within view) provides an alternative to the GPS capability from the main screen in the center console. Expect heated or cooling leather seats, massage features, Bang & Olufsen stereo systems and detailed finishes throughout the vehicle.

Genesis also has its place in the sedan market showcasing its latest iteration of the G90, considered to be its flagship, which was totally redesigned with new driver systems and two new V6 engines instead of one V8. It comes in both standard and electric models, but the latter adds both horsepower (from 375 to 409) as well as better air suspension to avoid extra bumps on the road.

Pioneering technology

Genesis cars are renowned for their attention to detail, but also the level of sophistication that goes into every aspect of the vehicle. A surround-view mirror uses side-facing radar technology and a blind spot alert system that kicks in when you use the turn signal. It also uses a remote spot park assist system to make parking both safer and easier. All of the safety mechanisms of a Genesis vehicle come standard; there is no need to pay extra for particular features the way other car manufacturers may price vehicles with add-on services.

As part of the Prestige model in the U.S., even the noise level from inside the car was carefully considered. A system carefully measures the noise and sound frequency to create an inverted frequency (some might call it one level above your standard white noise) to make the drive even quieter.

Another unique feature in the all-electric GV60 SUV is the crystal sphere that illuminates when the car is not in driving mode. Inside the sphere is a laser-engraved version of the Genesis G-Matrix design signature.

The car is so quiet, in fact, that it can sometimes be hard to know if it is even on. Once the ignition is pressed and the foot is on the brake pedal, it revolves to reveal drive-mode features. It’s a snazzy addition, for sure.

Front-facing cameras are always looking out for road imperfections, like bumps or potholes, to prepare the vehicle for a smoother ride. Face Connect is another world’s first feature, which allows users to unlock the vehicle using their face (similar to what you may do on a smartphone using biometric data) rather than carrying a key around with you.

For now, it is only available in the all-electric GV60 SUV with innovative biometric technology so that owners can rev up their cars without even using a key. Just by scanning their face, the user’s profile prepares the car for that specific driver including settings for the steering wheel, the driver’s seat and head-up-display positioning.

In the G90 flagship sedan, a “mood curator” design system adjusts the lighting, seat features and massage functions, and fragrance emission at the touch of a button.

The sales process

The company sells cars in its Genesis Studios, a modern take on what others may consider to be a car dealership. But, there’s a major difference in the layout and design focus of the space. These sales spaces put the cars front and center as showpieces on the floor with living room-style areas and even entertainment space in some in the rest of the area. Visitors can peruse the vehicle, ask questions or schedule a test drive. The latest opening is in Edinburgh, Scotland with another new location in the Atlanta area.

More than 50 of them are expected to open within the next year around the United States. They embody the Korean philosophy of “son-nim,” meaning “honored guest,” offering an experience that is quite different from what other automotive brands do in the sales process. According to Genesis, this allows for a more transparent vehicle purchase and avoids the typical, high-pressure (and sometimes uncomfortable) dealership visit.

Genesis can also send people to someone’s home to help them in the decision-making and sales process. When a customer purchases a new Genesis vehicle, they receive access to a 30-minute fast charging service, the Electrify America network, on a complimentary basis for three years. Even after that, Genesis electric vehicles use an 800 volt architecture that allows you to go from 10 to 80% charging in just 18-22 minutes, depending on the model, so it’s not like you need a lot of time to power up a car.

In New York, the brand has its own Korean restaurant, which sits atop the Genesis House showroom. In the basement, additional entertainment space is available for rent. It’s no coincidence that Genesis sees its brand as one that intermingles with lifestyle and fashion. The New York space even has a tea pavilion, library and rooftop terrace.

Eco-friendly commitment

As of 2025, Genesis has committed to becoming all electric with its new cars, and by 2030, it sees its entire production line to be 100% electric. And as part of its power transformation, it is adopting a dual electrification strategy using fuel cells and battery EVs. It is also focused on developing better technology that involves lithium-ion batteries to be used in its vehicles.

This aligns with the general shift of the global economy as more North Americans look to lower their carbon footprint while also taking advantage of tax breaks along the way. Genesis is proud of the fact that it has re-engineered the body structure with more aluminum to make it more lightweight than a gas-fueled car.

Along its own value chain, Genesis wants to be entirely carbon neutral when it comes to how it sources its materials to the way it builds each vehicle from scratch. Hyundai itself has plans to provide hydrogen fuel cell versions for its own commercial vehicles; these will be available by 2028.

Genesis sees itself as more than just a car manufacturer. In fact, its eco-friendly ethos extends beyond vehicles. The brand team can come to a buyer’s home to help them set up onsite charging stations while also installing solar panels for their home. Known as Genesis Home, this helps owners with car charging, but also by saving electricity on a broader scale to continue their “electrification journey” into other parts of their life.

Its Korean distinction

The brand sees itself as a beacon of Korean hospitality across the globe. In Genesis retail venues, the car company has created a signature fragrance and a scent diffuser using soothing notes. North American customers receive a custom scent blend to also use in their home.

It also serves a variety of bespoke tea blends (its headquarters has a team of tea sommeliers that blend them from scratch) in retail venues and gifts them to customers. This brand leans heavily into its Korean heritage, which teaches humility as a core value. For a luxury car brand, the juxtaposition could not be more stark, but when owners rave about the brand itself, it becomes as real as it gets.

In the canon of successful TV spin-offs, we must now always mention “Young Sheldon.” Taking place in the same universe of “The Big Bang Theory,” the sitcom focused on a young Sheldon Cooper growing up in Texas long before he became the man audiences knew, as portrayed by Jim Parsons. When it came time to give his character new life through a younger lens, Parsons was directly involved not only as the show’s narrator, but as an executive producer as well. But while he is relatively confident as an actor, Parsons didn’t have that same confidence as a producer.

In a 2017 interview with CBS News, Parsons sat down with “Young Sheldon” star Iain Armitage to discuss the show, as well as their relationship. Parsons very much mentored Armitage to help him become the young Sheldon Cooper. But when asked specifically about being an executive producer, Parsons wasn’t shy about his feelings.

“I’m very mediocre at it,” Parsons replied, although Armitage quickly interjected and disagreed, saying, “Not true.” Speaking a bit further. Parsons elaborated on his new position and explained why it had been a challenge for him. What it came down to is that he didn’t want to tell another actor how to do their job:

“It’s very strange and it’s taken a lot to get used to, even talking to another actor, in this case, Iain. I’ve never been someone comfortable giving another actor direction. I don’t know what makes any other actor tick, necessarily, and I don’t want to break it, or him!”

“I’m not that fragile. I’m fragile, but not that fragile,” Armitage commented. Parsons then agreed, replying, “No, you’re not actually.”

Big Sheldon had to pass the torch to Young Sheldon

For what it’s worth, everything worked out regardless of Parsons’ feelings about himself as a producer. “Young Sheldon” ran for seven seasons on CBS before concluding its run in May 2024. That’s a whopping 141 episodes, for those keeping track. It’s not as many as the 12 seasons and 279 episodes as “Big Bang Theory,” but to say that the spin-off had anything shy of a resoundingly successful run would be unfair.

Parsons largely allowed Armitage to put his own stamp on Sheldon Cooper, even from the beginning. Yes, we know the old Sheldon, which Armitage referred to as “big Sheldon” in the interview, but this was a very different version of the character. Parsons spoke a bit about that, explaining that watching the younger Sheldon discover everything he loves would keep the show running:

“It really is its own character. What you’re seeing is how he became what we see in the adult show, and so this is kind of its own creature that [Iain’s] portraying here. There are overlaps, but we watch him discover things, like comic books, and his clothes are going to change style as he goes through this. All the things that you associate with Sheldon now, you see how they got there through him.”

Even though he only served as the narrator for the vast majority of the show, Parsons did appear as Sheldon Cooper in the “Young Sheldon” series finale. He helped finish what he started, with Armitage now able to build a career after a very successful seven-year run on a hit show. Everyone won out. So it might be hard, with the benefit of hindsight, to agree that Parsons is a bad producer.

The former This Morning host, who quit ITV after admitting to having an affair with a much younger colleague, returned to our screens for Channel 5’s Cast Away.

The show followed Phillip around on a remote island for ten days and detailed the challenges of isolation. Within the three episodes, the 62-year-old opened up about his fallout with ITV, the affair, and struggling with mental health.

Still, Phillip’s vulnerability wasn’t good enough as critics and viewers slammed the show.

“Well that was the most boring hour of television I’ve ever watched on Channel 5 and he is still as annoying as we all already knew,” one X user wrote.

It’s been one thing after another for MasterChef host Gregg Wallace.

In November, the 60-year-old announced he would be stepping down from the show. This revelation arrived following allegations of inappropriate sexual comments from 13 people.

Gregg’s lawyers deny that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature. However, Gregg has “committed to fully co-operating throughout the process” as the investigation takes place.

Amid the scandal, Rod Stewart responded to the news via his Instagram page, stating that he “humiliated” his wife, Penny Lancaster, on Celebrity MasterChef. The Hot Legs hitmaker insulted Gregg by calling him a “tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully”.

Hitting back at the headlines and allegations, Gregg insisted the complaints came from a “handful of middle-class women of a certain age”.

Cancelled Celebrities: Diddy

Rapper and business mogul Diddy, also known as Sean Combs, has remained in the headlines throughout 2024 for all the wrong reasons.

The hitmaker, who helped develop the legendary artists Usher and Mary J. Blige, faced lawsuits related to sexual assault. On September 16, he was arrested at a hotel in New York.

Denying all charges, Diddy faces a criminal trial having been denied bail at $50m (£37.8m). However, more allegations have continued to emerge, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

In October, Diddy’s mother, Janice Smalls Combs, released a statement via her attorney.

“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” she wrote.

“To bear witness to what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words,” Janice continued.

“Like every human being, my son deserves to have his day in court, to finally share his side, and to prove his innocence. I am not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not. He has made mistakes in his past, as we all have.”

Graziano Di Prima

Italian dancer Graziano Di Prima was immediately axed from Strictly earlier this year after initially being confirmed for the 2024 series. He first joined the show in 2018.

However, following allegations of misconduct against him, Graziano revealed he would not be returning to Strictly. His spokesperson confirmed that he once kicked his 2023 dance partner Zara McDermott in rehearsals. “There is never a time when kicking, or any sense of that is right,” they stated.

In his own statement, Graziano said he “deeply regrets” the events leading up to his exit. He also accepted that his “intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime”.

Jermaine Jenas

One minute Jermaine Jenas was busy presenting BBC’s The One Show and Match of the Day, and then the next he was completely removed from the network.

In August, Jermaine was sacked from the network after he was accused of sending “inappropriate messages” to two female colleagues. Jermaine has been married for 13 years and shares a child with his wife, Ellie Penfold.

Responding to the news, Jermaine stated there were “two sides to every story” and was letting his “lawyers deal with it”. However, the BBC confirmed he would not be returning to their presenting line-up.

Amid the controversy, Ellie spoke out, stating the past few months had been “incredibly hard”.

“Naturally this has been hard for me but my only concern has been our children and that will not change,” she told The Sun. “Now I just want to move forward.”

From bad to worse, it was revealed months later that Jermaine had been replaced by Nicki Shields as host for Formula E after ITV signed a deal to broadcast the season.

Cancelled celebrities: JK Rowling

JK Rowling feuded with Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe regarding transgender identity and rights in 2024.

The best-selling author called out “celebs” who she claimed had “used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors”.

In 2020, Emma and Daniel previously spoke out against JK’s stance on gender identity. After raising her concerns about gender identity services for those under 18, JK took to X earlier this year to share a report, which said the evidence on medical intervention in gender care against children was “remarkably weak,” and described it as a “watershed moment”.

In response to JK sharing the report, one user replied: “Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology… safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them…”

JK saw the message and responded with: “Not safe, I’m afraid.

“Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

In April, JK listed and misgendered several transgender women on X. This was in response to the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021 going into effect.

Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated over the summer.

Pleading guilty to a lesser offense of “driving while ability impaired,” he was given a 25-hour community service. Justin also received a traffic violation fine worth $500 and a 90-day license suspension.

The stars of the show are often seen sipping drinks, however, they’re not allowed to be inebriated while on camera.

The rules have been implemented for a pretty understandable reason – producers don’t want the cast slurring their words while trying to comment on what they’re watching.

Tom Malone Jr, a former star of the show, once spoke to The Sun about the rule.

“We weren’t allowed to order or drink alcohol, because I don’t think the show would work if we were all there slurring our words,” he said.

‘Pantomime’ behind the scenes

Another rule that the Gogglebox stars must follow is that they have to be paying attention to what’s on-screen – and not looking down at their phones.

After her exit from the show in 2021, Paige Deville described the show as being a “pantomime” behind the scenes.

Speaking to The Sun at the time, she said: “It’s a bit of a pantomime behind the scenes, you have to understand that you’re a character in a show and you can’t be your 100 percent authentic self, otherwise everyone would be on their phones for half of the show.”

She then said that producers prep cast members for big moments to react to by giving them a countdown.

Paige also claimed that producers could film things up to three times to get the reaction they wanted.

“At times it can be a bit like, ‘Right, I’m watching this again’, but it’s a job at the end of the day,” she said.

It was also revealed that stars have a budget per day that can go towards ordering a takeaway.

The Most Anticipated Games of 2025 – Decrypt

Look, 2024 was a pretty great year for games, delivering gems like Metaphor: ReFantazio, Astro Bot, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Off the Grid, and more. But we’re an optimistic bunch, and we think 2025 could be even better.

That’s the vibe we’re getting from the early batch of games expected to launch this year, spanning sequels and original titles alike, ranging from Grand Theft Auto 6 to (potentially) Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and plenty more in between.

Wait, let’s linger on that for a moment: GTA 6 is indeed expected to come out later this year, only a dozen years after its predecessor. Let’s hope that promise holds true. And the Nintendo Switch 2 is likely just around the corner, as well.

There’s a lot to get excited about already, and we’ve started highlighting the biggest hitters coming down the pipeline in 2025. You’ll find some of our early picks below for games to keep your eye on, but stay tuned as we’ll be updating this list regularly throughout the year to expand it and swap in newly revealed games.

Grand Theft Auto 6

This is undoubtedly the most anticipated game of 2025—and perhaps one of the most eagerly awaited games of all time. The last entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise remains incredibly popular, bringing in billions of dollars and still boasting 24 million monthly players despite being nearly 12 years old.

That’s part of why we’re all waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6. Set in the fictional state of Leonida, which is quite clearly based on Florida, players will be able to revisit Vice City in a story revolving around two protagonists in what looks to be a Bonnie and Clyde-esque story.

There have been all sorts of rumors around cryptocurrency featuring in the game, whether it’s Bitcoin or Ethereum, or perhaps an original token created by Rockstar Games. But as of now, they’re completely unsubstantiated.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft is back with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will see players transported to 16th century Japan to fight as a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and a historical samurai, Yasuke. The story will see the two protagonists clash as their respective factions fight as part of the political unification of Japan.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Release Date: 2025Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5

The eighth core entry into the iconic shooter franchise, Doom: The Dark Ages is set to be developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The first-person shooter will act as a prequel to the 2016 Doom title, following the franchise protagonist fighting through hell.

But the game promises to set itself apart from the rest of the series by adding dragon riding and focusing on melee battle. It’s a bit of a vibe shift, but not too much—after all, it’s still wildly, hilariously violent.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII

Release date: February 11Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Switch

Fancy world domination, but don’t want to get your shoes dirty? Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, developed by Firaxis, allows you to control famous leaders from history to fulfill your warlord fantasies without the messy part—or, alternatively, strive for greatness without causing so much destruction. It’s up to you.

New to the series will be urban title development, a new diplomacy screen, a new “age” system, and new civilizations at the dawn of every age—and Harriet Tubman as a new leader.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Release Date: 2025Platform: Nintendo Switch

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was initially announced at E3 2017—yep, that long ago—initially under development by Bandai Namco Studios . However, it moved hands in 2019 to Retro Studios, the team behind the original Prime trilogy.

It does mostly look like more of the same at this point, but given the quality of the previous entries—and how long it’s been since Prime 3 in 2007—fans are likely to be happy with it. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been announced for Switch, but we suspect it will also release on the upcoming Switch 2 as well.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Naughty Dog’s first totally new IP since The Last of Us, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet takes the third-person action genre to space.

In the trailer, we meet Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter on a mission on Sempiria, a planet that hasn’t received any communications for over 600 years. She is in search of a member of the Five Aces crime syndicate, who Mun appears to have history with. Once on the ground, our protagonist shows off a futuristic melee weapon and starts slaying robots. The trailer gives a cool retro-future vibe, and Naughty Dog rarely misses. This is one to be excited for.

Ghost of Yōtei

Release Date: 2025Platform: PlayStation 5

Sucker Punch Productions’ return after the success of Ghost of Tsushima is not quite a sequel, but definitely (somehow) related—although how exactly is unclear. Set some 300 years after Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is expected to have the same stealth action-fighting gameplay loop set in even more beautiful landscapes.

Fable

Release Date: 2025Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PC

Developed by Playground Games, known for racing game Forza Horizon, action role-playing game (RPG) Fable 4 looks to transport us back to the world of Albion for the first time since card game Fable Fortune released in 2017. Fable 4 looks to turn gamers into their own heroes, fighting through enemies using a mixture of swordplay and magic as player choices build or break their reputation.

Elden Ring: Nightreign

Release Date: 2025Platforms:PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S + One, PC

Elden Ring: Nightreign—developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco—will take place in Limveld, a similar location to Limgrave from the original title. This three-player co-op spinoff throws players through another gauntlet of mythical creatures and challenging boss fights. Have you (and two pals) got what it takes?

Nintendo Switch 2

Yes, the Nintendo Switch 2 is hardware rather than software—but besides Grand Theft Auto 6, is there anything in gaming more broadly anticipated than Nintendo’s next device?

The original Switch has been an undeniable smash after the deeply underwhelming Wii U, and Nintendo has continued to ride its momentum for nearly eight years now. Leaks and reports point to a successor that doesn’t scrap the winning hybrid formula, but makes some key upgrades in terms of power and hopefully durability. We’re ready, Nintendo.
