The Corrupted is the intimate TTRPG version of The Last Of Us

The Corrupted is the intimate TTRPG version of The Last Of Us

We tend to imagine the hardest part of surviving a zombie apocalypse would be, well, the zombies. But as properties like The Last Of Us, The Walking Dead, and Navaar Jackson’s tabletop role-playing game The Corrupted show us, it’s actually other people.

While there are other games that tackle the zombie trope, like Free League’s licensed RPG for The Walking Dead and D&D’s Domains of Dread, the scale of the problems in The Corrupted are brought down to an interpersonal level — making them arguably more devastating. An intimate game about a small group of survivors, The Corrupted uses a familiar base d20 system and adds in mechanics that highlight the difficulties of adjusting to the new normal of a post-fall world with people you don’t even know.

While there are combat mechanics for high intensity moments, the main thrust of the game is the emotional toll the apocalypse takes on this small group. Resource management heightens the survival element of The Corrupted, as food, water, and other tools like bullets are tracked over time.

The base abilities for the game include Empathy, Intellect, Judgement, Brawn, Agility, and Vitality — with nearly all of those featured during out-of-combat play. Failed rolls don’t simply prevent players from achieving their goals, they also actively cause Stress and a unique “compromised” condition which elevates the stakes of any conflict. Unresolved Stress then compiles into conflicts.

The conflict system mechanically represents tensions that arise from the literal stress and trauma of not only survival, but of existing alongside other people. Those mechanics impact how player characters relate to each other as well as themselves, providing opportunities for conflict to arise between players as the outside world throws an unending series of obstacles at them.

For those interested in seeing just how emotionally devastating this game can be, Jackson produced Ties That Bind. A slice-of-life zombie apocalypse actual play of The Corrupted, Ties That Bind features Jackson alongside award-winning actual play performers Hamnah Shahid and Josephine Kim. The stunningly edited audio AP weaves between the day to day life of three survivors as they deal with the interpersonal and ethical complications of figuring out what comes after the apocalypse, with the lives they led before the pathogen tore through the United States.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Spotted Again, Includes Gameplay Tweaks

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Spotted Again, Includes Gameplay Tweaks

An Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake has been spotted sailing the high seas of a Ubisoft game designer’s LinkedIn page, seemingly all but officially confirming that assassin/pirate Edward Kenway is returning.

MP1ST got the scoop, noticing that a Ubisoft game designer had listed Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake (2024) on their profile. In a crazy twist, it’s the very same developer who also listed the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake.

Somewhat oddly, MP1ST did not include a screenshot of the Elder Scrolls remake information when they broke the story, but this time they have included a screenshot of the person’s page including both Black Flag and Oblivion.

Apparently, the developer has since wiped their profile.

According to MP1ST, the page included a few details about the Black Flag remake. First, the game is being rebuilt on Ubisoft’s upgraded Anvil Engine. This is actually the same engine the Assassin’s Creed series has used since day 1, but at this point it is heavily changed.

On top of that, the remake will allegedly feature “new systems.” Wildlife ecosystems and combat were specifically referenced.

We already knew Ubisoft is working on at least one Assassin’s Creed remake as the company’s own CEO Yves Guillemot outright confirmed it last year.

“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.” spouted the CEO in an open letter addressing the company’s portfolio. “Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think”

Insider Gaming previously reported that the Black Flag remake was scheduled for a November 2025 release, and considering writer Tom Henderson seems to have some strong sources inside the company that information was likely solid. However, they also noted at the time that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ delay may have changed these plans. Since then, Shadows has been delayed yet again, perhaps pushing Black Flag even further back.

‘Forgotten Runiverse’ Game Wants You to Crash Its Servers—And Earn Towards the Airdrop – Decrypt

The Forgotten Runiverse game launched its “Crash the Runiverse” event Tuesday, asking players to engage with its fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game—aka MMORPG—to push its servers to the limit as it prepares for a global launch.

“The goal is simple: stress-test our servers to their absolute limits and try to crash them,” the project wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter)..

The event will be open until January 17 at 5pm ET. After logging into Forgotten Runiverse’s browser-based world, users will be instructed to follow the onboarding process, begin a search for in-game items, and talk to fairy character Selene.

For their participation in the event, users have the opportunity to earn from a pool of 21 trillion Quanta, an in-game currency that will eventually be directly redeemable for XP, the recently announced ecosystem token for the Forgotten Runes Wizard’s Cult NFT project and the Forgotten Runiverse game.

All Quanta earned will be distributed when Forgotten Runiverse officially launches into its Global Early Access. Beyond earning Quanta, users can also roll pieces to four different cosmetic armor sets that are exclusive to the Crash the Runiverse event.

Crash the Runiverse is the third major event hosted by Forgotten Runiverse, following its Eve of Memory and New Foundations events in 2024. Players from the previous events will also be eligible for the Quanta airdrop.

The latest event implements improved party, chat, and other UI optimizations, but a much larger set of new content is expected to come later this year.

Forgotten Runiverse launched its open beta access in August after migrating to the Ronin blockchain, an Ethereum sidechain gaming network and home to popular games like Pixels and Axie Infinity. Players in the MMORPG can join forces to battle through player-vs-player and player-vs-environment adventures based on the Forgotten Runes lore.

Real reason Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott split after five years ‘revealed’

Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott split after five years recently, with the couple’s relationship being pulled into the spotlight in recent weeks.

Now, the real reason behind their split has seemingly been revealed.

Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott split

Earlier this month, it was reported that TV’s golden couple Sam and Zara had split after five years together.

A source alleged to the MailOnline: “Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.

“But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split. They will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025,” they then continued.

“There has been no scandal or fallout between them, it’s just the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects.”

‘Real’ reason Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott split revealed?

Now, according to a source speaking to The Sun, Sam and Zara reportedly split because Sam wasn’t “prioritising” their relationship.

“Zara never felt like she was the priority with Sam. He always seemed to find someone or something to put before her,” they said.

According to the source – allegedly a friend of the couple – Sam’s “immature” personality pushed the couple further apart when they were planning their future together.

This then led to them spending Christmas apart – before ending their relationship for good.

‘Things in the relationship weren’t right’

    The source then continued.

“Zara loved Sam, but things in the relationship weren’t right. They are both selfish in their own right and want to be successful in business as individuals – but of course that comes at a price. Sam is very childish – it’s even become a part of his ‘showbiz persona’ – but Zara feels as though she’s getting older and wants to start being taken more seriously. She knows she’ll want to start a family soon, but Sam thinks they’re both way too young and should focus on their careers,” they then said.

They’re both quite insecure and that came with its own issues.

“Sam’s family felt Zara didn’t make good choices and so they couldn’t see him with her long term. They’re both quite insecure and that came with its own issues. After her affair it built a wedge with Sam’s family and Sam looked at them for their approval. It was always an uphill battle to prove she had changed. Sadly they ended up growing apart rather than together and their relationship became more like friends who are housemates rather than lovers,” they then added.

ED! has contacted Zara and Sam’s reps for comment.

Ronan Keating breaks down in Boyzone documentary

Stephen Gately died in 2009 at the age of 33, not long after the band staged their highly-anticipated comeback. His cause of death was a congenital heart defect.

The boys continued as a four-piece, and in 2018 they celebrated their 25th anniversary with their final tour and album – featuring a tribute to Stephen. They included a reworking of a demo he had recorded in 2002, including his vocals.

In the Sky Documentaries teaser, Ronan explained: “I had to call the guys and give them the news.”

Keith Duffy emotionally remembered how he couldn’t process the news at first, saying: “No, no, no. Not our Stephen.” At the same time, Ronan was seen breaking down in tears.

The boys admitted that after Stephen died, “everything changed”. Footage of the boys carrying Stephen’s coffin at his funeral also features in the series.

In the trailer for the Boyzone documentary, Michael ‘Mikey’ Graham opens up on wanting to get away from everything to do with the band.

He says: “I just wanted out. I wanted to get away from that toxic environment.” Keith backed him up, explaining: There were things that happened that were cruel.”

      Stephen forced into coming out

Louis Walsh is also seen addressing the time that Stephen was forced into coming out as gay.

He explained Stephen was “living the dream” but was “hiding a big secret”, referencing his decision to hide his sexuality.

In 1999, Stephen came out after he discovered someone was trying to sell his story to the newspapers.

In the documentary trailer, Keith is seen getting upset thinking back, but admits: “The press were absolutely scandalous for what they did to Stephen.”

The camera then flips to their former manager who simply smiles and says: “He [Stephen] got the front page.”

The upcoming Boyzone documentary is set to be an extremely emotional ride, with the band opening up about things they have not spoken about over their 30-year career.
