Black Ops 6 Reveals First Look at Shattered Veil Zombies Map Coming in Season 3

The fifth Black Ops 6 Zombies map is just around the corner, and our trip to the Liberty Falls mansion may coincide with an encounter with Eddie Richtofen!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 recently delayed its Season 3 update, which was supposed to launch next week on March 20.

Instead, we’ll have to wait a further two weeks until April 3 in order to drop into Season 3 – where it appears a new Zombies experience will be waiting for us!

First Look at Shattered Veil – Black Ops 6 Season 3 Zombies Map

Treyarch has begun dropping teaser images for its upcoming Zombies map, Shattered Veil, set in Edward Richtofen’s mansion in Liberty Falls.

The developer has now confirmed that Shattered Veil will arrive in Season 3, though the developer didn’t confirm whether we’d be heading to the mansion during the new update’s launch.

Given that Treyarch is already posting images of the Zombies map on its official social media accounts, it appears that a Season 3 day one launch is all but confirmed.

Teaser #1 – The Mansion Exterior

This image of the Project Janus mansion released on March 11, marking the first time Treyarch had publically acknowledged its next Zombies map.

Obviously, we know from the Liberty Falls introduction cinematic that the mansion had been home to Richtofen for some time.

But the cinematic also showed that Shattered Veil is an important location for Project Janus, and that its secret basement was where the Forsaken was being kept inside its containment.

Teaser #2 – The Banquet Hall

The second teaser image showcases the Banquet Hall, complete with a mysterious painting that appears to be wired up to some strange machinery.

The dates provided alongside the new screenshots reveal that they were taken around 10 days following the zombie outbreak.

Liberty Falls Mansion Banquet Hall

Judging by the image above, that seems to have been more than enough time to send the mansion into a state of disrepair.

It also means that it’s been ten days since the disappearance of Richtofen himself. The longtime series antagonist appeared to be abducted by the Forsaken, who may well have taken on the identity of S.A.M.

Seeing as Treyarch is posting what appear to be excerpts of audio log recordings by Richtofen as the image captions, it’s not unreasonable to think we’ll be picking up intel from the former Requiem Director himself throughout the map.

However, we can only hope that completing the Shattered Veil’s Easter Egg Main Quest will at least lead to us encountering Eddie once again.

Let’s just hope the new map, alongside the return of Verdansk in Warzone, is enough to bring back player interest in Call of Duty. After all, Black Ops 6 just reported a record-low player count on Steam, indicating that many users are losing interest in Activision’s shooter.

Split Fiction Review | TheXboxHub

A Genre-Bending Masterpiece

Despite myself and my better half both being avid gamers, us actually playing together is relatively uncommon. In fact, the last time we sat down and truly invested some quality hours into a game as a pair was when the terrific It Takes Two was released. At the time I genuinely thought it was an experience that was likely never to be topped.

However, the brilliantly bonkers Josef Fares is back with his latest adventure, Split Fiction, in an effort to prove me wrong.

Split Fiction Review 1
A tale of two

Co-op Creativity Unleashed

Split Fiction is an action & adventure game centring around two aspiring writers, Mio and Zoe. Both meet at a creative gathering where they hope to finally hit the big time in their respective genres, sci-fi and fantasy. However, before long it turns out that the head of the supposed publishing company, Rader, is not all that he seems. Mio and Zoe end up thrown into their own creations and need to team up to find a way back to reality and prevent their ideas from being stolen.

When it comes to the narrative, discovering more about each character is what makes Split Fiction so gripping as opposed to simply being about what’s happening in the worlds themselves. It’s an unashamedly human story, dealing with life changing events whilst at the very same time juxtaposed against huge space wars and battles with powerful magical creatures.

Both Mio and Zoe may not be instantly lovable, however their character development is handled brilliantly. Through their fictional stories we learn more about them, as you will no doubt try to figure out the significance of certain details and what inspired them from Mio and Zoe’s real life experiences. There are countless nods to other classic video games and popular culture too; some subtle and some not so much.

Split Fiction is also genuinely funny, as both Mio and Zoe balance each other really well. The dialogue is thoughtful and believable, saving both women from feeling like one dimensional cliches. Both are also brought to life by how fantastic the character models look, and the excellent job done with the lip syncing.

Worlds Within Worlds

At this point I must explicitly say that Split Fiction looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s actually quite staggering that despite only residing in some of these worlds for a brief period, the detail and creativity that has gone into creating them is high. Aside from the two main genres, you’ll also explore partially finished ideas by the protagonists, such as a sickly sweet world of candy and a hand drawn 2D sketchbook which changes with the narrator.

Split Fiction Review 2Split Fiction Review 2
How will your playthrough go?

These side stories are optional, but contain some of the best moments of Split Fiction and should not be missed. If it wasn’t for the epic climax to the main story, I would say my favourite moments came when jumping into these asides which further break up the gameplay, pushing the variety message.

A Platforming Powerhouse

It’s that central theme of variety that is evidenced by how good this game looks, and even though most chapters play out in one of two genres, no two ever feel the same. This is reinforced by the wonderfully creative gameplay too. What we have on our hands here is a “greatest hits” (if you like) of platform gaming.

Both Mio and Zoe come equipped with a double jump, dash, wall run and grapple to help traverse each environment. These abilities are constantly available throughout the vast majority of Split Fiction and line up some brilliant action set pieces. You’ll be sliding, swinging and sprinting to avoid all sorts of environmental hazards and enemies in pursuit.

What particularly impressed me is that there can be an awful lot happening on screen, with the perspective shifting and the need to react quickly. Despite this mayhem the camera tracks perfectly and doesn’t confuse you, meaning you won’t be moving in the wrong direction or getting unfairly punished by the control setup. This means the illusion remains intact, and as a result the on-rails segments are absolutely thrilling, pulse-pounding segments of play which will constantly catch you off guard. Despite the entirety of Split Fiction playing in a pretty linear fashion, the environments have the illusion of an open world in the way they are designed.

This feeling of not quite knowing what to expect next is weaved into the pace of the game beautifully, and I must say it’s damn near perfect. Just when an idea or setting may start to be outgrowing its welcome, things change and the game turns the action on its head. The sheer amount of ideas in Split Fiction is jaw-dropping but what’s more impressive is that given the vast variety of gameplay mechanics, each feels perfectly calibrated. It’s a real creative tour de force.

Split Fiction Review 3Split Fiction Review 3
Co-op chaos

Co-op Chaos and Creative Challenges

Generally the sci-fi areas feel a little more action orientated, whilst the fantasy sections contain more puzzle based platforming. Split Fiction is filled with so many lightbulb moments that kick in when you discover how your abilities and the environments fit together to reveal the path forward.

There are also segments of play where both women are bound together, and must move in tandem whilst safely navigating all sorts of hazards without breaking their link. On another occasion you work together to guide yourselves through a giant pinball machine. Or how about blasting your way through colour coded doors and force fields? Split Fiction has it all.

Mio and Zoe will also zip around with jetpacks, ride dragons, hoverboard down mountains, take part in an intergalactic game show, gain otherworldly abilities and much, much more besides. Split Fiction is a rollercoaster, and I had it pegged as being equally as entertaining and enthralling as It Takes Two. However, that was before I hit the final level, Split.

The Unforgettable Climax and Replayability

Now, I’m not in the business of spoilers so I won’t go into details here. However, it’s fair to say I audibly gasped when I got started, something I haven’t done since playing Alan Wake 2. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it before in a video game, as the traditional platforming mechanics are experimented on and distorted, to the point where Hazelight Studios were clearly just showing off.

Split Fiction also dials up the replayability value thanks to Mio and Zoe adopting different abilities, weapons and paths throughout the game. As a result you can replay the adventure and have a genuinely different experience the second time around. It’s just another piece in the expertly crafted puzzle which makes Split Fiction an incredibly well designed and put together game.

Split Fiction Review 4Split Fiction Review 4
An absolute masterpiece

As we have come to expect from Hazelight Studios the emphasis is firmly on co-op play, whether that’s on your couch at home or over the internet. If you aren’t lucky enough to have someone in the same household to accompany you on this adventure, providing you own a copy of Split Fiction you can use the Friend’s Pass feature to bring a buddy along for the ride, even if they are on a different platform.

A Co-op Triumph and a Game of the Year Contender

Not to exaggerate but Split Fiction is a very special game. It’s one thing to aspire to offer variety and bring so many ideas together. It’s entirely another to manage it so successfully, creating a game which just gets better and better and better, as well as managing to stick the landing when it comes to the final act. It manages to be wonderfully simple and accessible, whilst engrossing and wildly entertaining at the same time. It’s so good that what we have here is another Game of the Year contender. You heard it here first.

The team at Hazelight have done it again, creating an experience in Split Fiction that is relentlessly diverse, innovative and, above all, an absolute riot.

Swell Integrates Obol Distributed Validators To Enhance Performance And Maximize Rewards

Swell Integrates Obol Distributed Validators To Enhance Performance And Maximize Rewards

In Brief

Swell is integrating Obol Distributed Validators to modernize its staking stack, delivering improved performance, reduced risks, and greater rewards.

Swell Integrates Obol Distributed Validators To Enhance Performance And Maximize Rewards

Non-custodial liquid staking protocol, Swell announced the integration of Obol Distributed Validators (DVs) into its liquid restaking protocol. This marks a major advancement in enhancing the staking system, with the aim of providing better performance, reducing risks, and increasing rewards for users.

The Obol Collective is the leading Decentralized Operator Ecosystem and a key proponent of Distributed Validators. It aims to improve performance, boost rewards, and minimize risks for Ethereum and other decentralized infrastructure networks.

In its effort to modernize its staking system, Swell is implementing multi-operator clusters. This approach enables multiple validator operators to collaborate in order to improve security, reliability, and decentralization. Through Obol’s Distributed Key Generation (DKG), validators can collaboratively generate and manage keys, ensuring that no single operator holds full control. This reduces the risk of failures and strengthens key security, minimizing penalties and enhancing staking performance overall.

New Integration To Bring Better Performance

Performance plays a crucial role in Ethereum staking—greater uptime and efficiency lead to higher rewards and a more reliable network. Obol’s DVs optimize validator uptime and eliminate inefficiencies that are common in traditional setups, delivering top-tier performance. The multi-operator architecture not only enhances security but also boosts validator responsiveness and fault tolerance, helping maximize staking rewards for Swell users.

With improved performance and reduced downtime, distributed validators provide higher rewards compared to conventional validators. Furthermore, Swell users may gain additional incentives from the Obol Collective, increasing total staking rewards.

By modernizing its staking framework with Obol DVs, Swell enhances security, optimizes performance, and offers greater rewards. More updates are expected in the future.

Swell is a liquid (re)staking protocol that features its own vertically-integrated rollup. Users can stake and restake their assets on Swell, and further enhance their restaking yield on Swellchain—the first rollup specifically designed for restaking, powered by Proof of Restake.

Recently, the AMM DEX Velodrome integrated with Swellchain, adding substantial liquidity and enabling low-slippage swaps for Swellchain users.

Blizzard is investing Diablo 4 PTR on console to massively expand testing

Blizzard is looking into bringing Diablo 4 PTR updates to console, allowing players on PlayStation and PC to try out new features before their official launch.

At the time of writing, Diablo 4’s 2.2 update is currently in PTR, allowing players to test new multiplayer features and the upcoming season and report issues to the developers. This option is only available on PC, but it could soon come to console.

Diablo 4 PTR on Xbox and PlayStation

Speaking to IGN, Blizzard’s head of Diablo Rod Fergusson explained that the studio does want to bring Diablo 4 PTR to console in the future.

According to the outlet, Fergusson explains that the reason the early test servers aren’t available on console right now is due to “certification challenges and the general difficulty of releasing new builds on consoles”.

As with any game on console, PTR updates will have to be certified by their associated console manufacturers to make sure there’s no hardware exploits or major issues with the game. Additionally, there is a cost associated with certification on platforms as real employees must test updates on Xbox and PlayStation.

Nevertheless, Blizzard is “investing in” the process of bringing Diablo PTR to console players, likely starting with Xbox. With other games such as PUBG having their own private test server builds on console, it’s not impossible, but it does require significant investment.

“It’s tough as iteration and updates on PTR can be sometimes difficult on platforms/services that aren’t on our own,” explained Diablo global director of community Adam Fletcher in a recent Twitter discussion.

Fergusson also explained the importance of having a testing space for new updates before launch. While the service does end up spoiling content for very hardcore fans, it also results in a better experience for millions more.

“You just realize that it’s better to ruin the surprise for 10,000 people so that millions of people have a great season,” the Diablo lead explained.. “And even if you mess up PTR, even if whatever you’re offering to them in the mechanics is bad, I would much rather have a bad week of a PTR than a bad three months trying to recover from putting in something that we were surprising players with and it turned out to be wrong.”

For more Diablo coverage, read Fergusson’s thoughts on a potential Diablo 5 in the future. Additionally, listen to our podcast interview with series creator David Brevik on his early career as well as his future.

Britney Spears May Be Heading For A Career Comeback With Son Jayden

Britney Spears May Be Heading For A Career Comeback With Son Jayden

Pop star Britney Spears may finally be ready to make a career comeback, and it’s all thanks to her son, Jayden.

Although her “The Woman In Me” memoir is being turned into a biopic, the “Toxic” singer hasn’t released new music in years.

However, that might all change now that her 18-year-old son is invested in launching a music career of his own.

    Article continues below advertisement

Should Britney Spears Collaborate With Her Son To Release New Music?

The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer has two children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18. Over the winter break, Jayden came to live with his mother in California while he’s looking at schools to study music. Although they’ve had a rocky relationship in the past due to her controversial 13-year conservatorship, it looks like things are looking up.

Ever since Christmas, Britney has taken to Instagram in order to applaud her son’s musical skills. Things haven’t changed, with Britney sharing a video on Instagram of her son playing in their living room. “WOW WOW WOW !!!” she wrote in the caption. “That’s sick,” she can be heard saying as he plays.

Britney Is Proud Of Her Son

In another Instagram video, she said that she felt his music in her bones, her heart, her lungs, her a–, and her throat. “He’s a genius and I’m in awe of him !!! I can’t believe he’s mine !!! I was honestly scared that’s not normal !!!” she wrote in the caption. Comments on both posts were disabled, but this video did receive over 90,000 likes.

It’s clear that Britney is proud of her son. On December 31, 2024, she took to Instagram to share another photo of him. “Mine forever !!! It’s weird we’re like twins but he’s a boy and I’m a girl !!! He’s mine I hadn’t seen him in 2 and half years or maybe 3 !!! I’m in shock !!!” she wrote in the caption.

    Article continues below advertisement

“He came back and he feels older and smarter than me !!! He’s a man and I cry everyday of my life because of the miracle and genius he is !!!” she continued, adding, “When he plays the whole earth shakes !!!”

    Article continues below advertisement

How Britney Spears Can Launch Her Son’s Career

It’s no secret that her fans have been begging for a career comeback ever since she released “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John. The track was released on August 22, 2022, and marks the first song that she released following the end of her court-ordered conservatorship in November 2021. The last single she released was “Mind Your Business,” a collaboration with will.i.am, in July 2023.

Creating a new single with her son, Jayden, would be a great way to help him get his foot in the door in an increasingly competitive industry. Although her website occasionally releases new merchandise from time to time, fans would love it if they got new music from the singer. With his piano skills, an accompanying vocal track from the singer could help make her son a household name.

Will Britney Be Involved In Her Biopic?

    MEGA

It remains to be seen how involved Britney will be in her biopic, which features “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu and Marc Platt attached to produce the film. No casting announcements have been made yet, but Chu previously told Entertainment Tonight that he wants the “Circus” singer to be involved in the project.

“I haven’t really started anything fully yet,” Chu said. “She will be very involved in this. I have ideas and things, an approach of things, but it’s very very early.”

“I’ve seen all the fan casting,” he added of rumors that Britney will choose who gets to play her on screen. “And I always take that into consideration because maybe there’s a good idea out there we’ll have to see. We’ll have to see what the approach of the movie is because we know who is right for it, but I’m open for anything.”

    Article continues below advertisement

Britney’s Son Could Appear In Her Biopic

Another way that Britney’s son could help get his name out there is to have him appear in her biopic – whether in a cameo role or as himself. Although many fans know that Britney Spears had two sons, they were predominantly raised by their father, who recently moved to Hawaii with his wife, former volleyball player Victoria Prince.

Britney has talked about her desire to be a good mother time and time again and it’s clear that she would do anything for her two boys, which is why fans have no doubt that she would step back into the music industry if it would help one of her son’s succeed in the highly competitive industry.

A Britney Spears song that also features her son Jayden? Now that’s music to our ears.

Have Gaussian Splats Arrived in the Standardization Sweet Spot?

Have Gaussian Splats Arrived in the Standardization Sweet Spot?

On Tuesday, January 22, the Metaverse Standards Forum (MSF) hosted a virtual town hall to explore a pressing question: Are Gaussian Splats (GS) ready for standardization? The event drew hundreds of participants and sparked a lively debate. The conversation has since continued at the “Gaussian Splats Town Hall Part 2” that was held on March 5, 2025, where Niantic, Cesium and Meta shared more details on their Gaussian Spat pipelines.

Gaussian Splats are an innovative method for representing 3D scenes using points (or “splats”) with attributes like color, opacity, and size. This technique enables highly realistic renderings with fewer data constraints compared to traditional mesh models.

The Forum’s Gaussian Splats Town Hall, co-hosted by MSF 3D Formats Interoperability Working Group co-chair Patrick Cozzi of Bentley Systems and Alexey Medvedev of Meta, who also serves as Khronos 3D Formats Working Group chair, was a dynamic, three-and-a-half-hour event that featured impressive demonstrations and persuasive arguments for GS’s future in 3D content creation and delivery. Notable contributors included Radiance Fields, The New York Times, Niantic, Meta, NVIDIA, PlayCanvas, Microsoft, Arrival.space, Waldek Technologies, Bentley Systems, Cesium, Hexagon, Esri, EARTHBRAIN, and JDULTRA.

The recording of Part 1 is now available, complete with bookmarks for easy navigation. As GS gains momentum, we also want to elevate the standardization discussion that emerged from the town hall and bring glTF stakeholders rapidly up to speed before the next event. What Does “Standardization Ready” mean?

How standards proliferate. Situation: There are 14 competing standards. Person 1: 14?! Ridiculous! We need to develop one universal standard that covers everyone's use cases. Person 2: Yeah! Situation: There are 15 competing standards

The town hall also dove deep into GS web applications, highlighting its versatility for real-time use cases. Will Eastcott from PlayCanvas demonstrated how GS enhances real-time collaboration by enabling dynamic virtual spaces for education and remote work, where users can interact seamlessly within rich, interactive 3D environments. Cedric Guillemet from Microsoft showcased how GS improves the efficiency of rendering complex web-based scenes, making it possible to achieve high levels of detail without compromising performance. Thomas Richter-Trummer from Arrival.Space presented real-world applications where GS allowed for the scalable display of large 3D datasets directly in browsers, significantly reducing load times. Yoshiharu Sato from Waldek Technologies explored how GS supports immersive web applications, focusing on its ability to handle intricate data structures while maintaining smooth user experiences.

Despite these advancements, the presenters acknowledged challenges such as optimizing data compression techniques and ensuring consistent performance across different browsers. Ongoing collaboration within the community aims to address these hurdles and refine GS’s integration with web technologies.

    Geospatial and Digital Twins

In geospatial and digital twin contexts, GS supports precise, high-resolution mapping, allowing for detailed representations of physical environments. Renaud Keriven from Bentley Systems demonstrated how GS could accurately capture and visualize complex infrastructure projects, including fine details like power lines, wires, or telecom towers, reducing the time needed for site assessments. The acquisition and processing of GS are more flexible than traditional photogrammetry. Data can be captured using anything from a simple smartphone video to georeferenced drone or aerial imagery. Processing ranges from a quick draft reconstruction to a more computationally expensive but high-quality, large-scale reconstruction.

Despite these benefits, challenges persist. Konrad Wenzel from Esri noted difficulties in standardizing coordinate systems across different platforms, while Jean-Philippe Pons pointed out the complexities in managing the vast amounts of data generated, both of which require further exploration and innovative solutions.

    Are Gaussian Splats Standardization Ready?

The town hall revealed diverse perspectives on whether the industry is ready for GS standards. Pro-standardization voices advocated for leveraging existing frameworks like glTF to streamline GS adoption while maintaining flexibility. For instance, presenters from Cesium and NVIDIA highlighted how integrating GS with glTF could simplify workflows for digital twins and 3D mapping applications, enabling seamless data exchange across platforms.

Scott Simons from OGC offered a guiding principle during the global Q&A session: “The best way to standardize problems is really to find discrete pieces of those problems and solve them as those need to be solved.” In other words, stay niche. Simons suggested leveraging existing standards such as glTF that already address core aspects of GS use cases and building out extensions to address tailored user needs. This insight set the stage for a discussion on the right way to implement standards without overreaching.

Many participants suggested that glTF could play a pivotal role in future GS standardization efforts, potentially serving as a container or extension framework. Several speakers highlighted how 3D Tiles, a spatial data structure built on glTF, could enable streaming of massive GS-based scenes. Jason Sobotka from Cesium illustrated how 3D Tiles efficiently manages large-scale geospatial datasets, ensuring optimized delivery of high-resolution data in real-time applications. Konrad Wenzel from Esri reinforced this perspective, explaining how 3D Tiles’ hierarchical level-of-detail system allows GS to be integrated seamlessly into existing geospatial pipelines. Arrival.space also demonstrated how GS assets could be embedded within glTF files to enhance web-based 3D experiences without sacrificing performance or flexibility. These discussions further indicate that glTF, through its connection with 3D Tiles, may serve as a strong foundation for GS standardization, enabling interoperability and scalability across industries.

In addition, Niantic’s presentation introduced their open-source SPZ format for GS and proposed that SPZ could potentially become a glTF extension, following a path similar to Google’s Draco compression. They explained that SPZ is designed to efficiently store and transmit Gaussian Splats, making it a strong candidate for standardization. By leveraging glTF as an extension framework, Niantic suggested that SPZ could achieve rendering efficiencies, overcome challenges with interactivity, and build out metadata like view ranges to improve usability. Their proposal highlights how targeted extensions within established standards can provide practical solutions without overcomplicating the broader ecosystem.

Still, cautionary viewpoints emphasized the risk of stifling innovation if standards are imposed prematurely. Experts from Meta and PlayCanvas cautioned that GS is still evolving rapidly, with diverse experimental implementations that could be restricted by premature standardization.

Back on the pro-standardization camp, one should note that standards development is not a fast process. Getting started might not be such a bad idea and new technologies, which will inevitably arise, can always be incorporated.
