While it may be tempting to stay in the Shallows, marvelling at the wonderful sights and friendly fish, at some point in your Subnautica 2 playthrough, you’re going to have to brave the open ocean and dive a little deeper.
There’s plenty to be found in the murky depths of the sea, from sparkling new minerals to strange alien contraptions to all sorts of bizarre and brilliant creatures, ready to flee from you or devour you whole!

In the depths, no one can hear you scream…
However, diving deep with your Tadpole isn’t without its limits. While you may have adaptations that allow you to survive the crushing depths, your vehicle does not. As soon as you get below 250m, your Tadpole will start to break apart.
So how do we combat this? Well, a Depth Module, of course! Let’s see where to find the Tadpole Depth Module Blueprint, and how to equip it to our vehicle!
Data Box Location
To get this blueprint, we first need to find a data box containing the information. This can be found pretty much as soon as you’ve discovered the Alien Ruins location and established yourself on the eastern part of the map.
From the Alien Ruins, turn to the southeast and begin gliding forward with your tadpole. Soon, you’ll notice a large underwater mountain teeming with Needler Fish. This is a great location for collecting a bunch of Celestine and Creature Enamel for later use.

Their bones will make you stronger!
Simply avoid the fish and head through the blue ring into the cave beneath the rock structure. You’ll notice there’s a small human-made light beside a hole in the floor. Leave your Tadpole near the top of the cave, just above 250m, and swim down through the hole.
You’ll start hearing a beeping sound along with the bright orange glow of a Tadpole Wreck. Directly in front of the wreck is the Depth Module Data Box. While you’re here, you can also scan the wreck for a fragment of the Tadpole Haul Chassis, which can be used to carry extra items!
Crafting the Depth Module
Return to your base and ensure your Modification Station is fully powered up. If you don’t have a Modification Station yet, you can find one in the Alien Ruins hub.
To craft the module, you’ll need the following items:
3x Celestine
2x Enameled Glass
1x System Chip
Celestine can be collected from the area around the Depth Module Data Box. The same can be said for the Creature Enamel, which can be combined with Glass to make Enameled Glass.
The System Chip can be crafted using a Fabricator by combining a Wiring Kit and 2 pieces of Quartz.
Once you have your Depth Module, simply head back to your Tadpole and look on top for the small rectangular compartment just behind the power cell. Open it up and insert your Depth Module into one of the boxes. And just like that, you’re done! Now your Tadpole can reach depths of up to 450m. Time to go exploring!
