Curetopia has secured $1.77 million in funding to expedite treatments for rare diseases through a decentralized biotech model leveraging Solana.

The fundraising effort, supported by more than 1,000 individual contributors, highlights growing momentum in the decentralized science (DeSci) sector, particularly amid a sustained US freeze on traditional funding sources like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF).

The Curetopia DAO, launched on Bio Protocol with backing from Binance seeks to address an estimated $1 trillion rare disease market historically underserved by large pharmaceutical companies. Utilizing blockchain-based crowdfunding, Curetopia enables rare disease patients and researchers to collaboratively finance drug development projects, sharing ownership of resulting treatments through tokenization.

Curetopia recently identified a potential treatment for AARS2 progressive leukoencephalopathy, a fatal mitochondrial disease lacking any approved therapies. This discovery, arising from screening 8,500 repurposable compounds via yeast models, represents one of the first instances of a crypto-backed research project potentially reaching commercialization.

Curetopia is currently filing a provisional patent for this discovery. Any proceeds from subsequent commercialization will be reinvested into the DAO.

Curetopia’s operational model incorporates direct engagement with patient communities, a strategy championed by founder Dr. Ethan Perlstein, a Harvard PhD and former Y Combinator participant. Perlstein previously demonstrated cost-effective clinical development by advancing a rare disease treatment to Phase 3 trials for $5 million—markedly lower than traditional pharmaceutical pathways.

Perlstein emphasized that decentralized drug development empowers rare disease patients and families to directly influence therapeutic development, breaking the cycle of neglected research due to limited commercial incentives.

Participants in Curetopia’s decentralized trials receive CURES tokens, effectively becoming stakeholders in the therapies they help develop.

Curetopia’s model, which leverages drug repurposing, tokenized intellectual property, and community-driven trials, seeks to accelerate regulatory approval processes, significantly reducing both time and financial costs relative to conventional drug development.

The DAO also recently partnered with COMBINEDBrain and Unravel Biosciences to provide drug screening services to organizations representing more than 100 genetic neurodevelopmental disorders.

BNB launches Good Will Alliance to counteract MEV sandwich attacks


BNB Chain has launched the Good Will Alliance, aiming to counteract malicious maximal extractable value (MEV) practices, starting with targeted measures against sandwich attacks.

The initiative aims to unite infrastructure builders, validators, and the broader community to establish ethical standards, best practices, and enhanced security within the BNB ecosystem.

Sandwich attacks, a prevalent form of malicious MEV, have significantly impacted retail traders on Binance Smart Chain (BSC), causing losses totaling hundreds of millions of dollars, per BNBChain DAO.

Responding to these challenges, the alliance’s initial action focuses explicitly on mitigating sandwich attacks through advanced filtering mechanisms.

Infrastructure providers BlockRazor and 48 Club have deployed specialized sandwich attack filters within their block-building processes, setting an early benchmark for alliance participants. The alliance has established a GitHub repository listing builders compliant with these ethical standards, urging BSC validators to exclusively accept block bids from this vetted group.

Per BNB Chain, the alliance’s strategy involves defining clearer criteria for identifying sandwich attacks, developing sophisticated tooling to detect malicious MEV behavior, and fostering deeper community collaboration to bolster on-chain security.

These efforts will evolve through governance processes, BNB Evolution Proposals (BEPs), and regular codebase updates, aiming for long-term improvements in network fairness.

The initiative received strong community endorsement, evidenced by a DAO proposal that passed with 79% approval on February 14.

The proposal highlights the necessity of community-driven measures, including penalties for malicious builders, exclusion of irresponsible validators, and adoption of safer RPC nodes and MEV-protected wallets.

The Good Will Alliance plans to continue expanding its scope, actively seeking additional members to introduce further community-oriented security projects throughout 2025.

This post kicks off a series dedicated to the use of AI in frontend automation, where we will analyze and discuss specific tools, techniques, and practical use cases of AI that help developers in their everyday tasks.

AI in Frontend Automation – How It Helps with Code Refactoring

One of the most common uses of AI is improving code quality and finding errors. These tools can analyze code and suggest optimizations. As a result, we will be able to write code much faster and significantly reduce the risk of human error.

How AI Saves Us from Frustrating Bugs

Imagine this situation: you spend hours debugging an application, not understanding why data isn’t being fetched. Everything seems correct, the syntax is fine, yet something isn’t working. Often, the problem lies in small details that are hard to catch when reviewing the code.

Let’s take a look at an example:

When we ask AI to refactor this code, not only will we receive a more readable version using newer patterns (async/await), but also – and most importantly – AI will automatically detect and fix the typo in the URL:

However, AI can significantly speed up this process. Using ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or Claude allows for automatic generation of translations for the user interface, as well as detecting linguistic and stylistic errors.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may revise or abandon former chair Gary Gensler’s controversial proposal that would tighten crypto custody standards for investment advisers.

Under Gensler’s two-year-old proposal, the SEC sought to expand federal custody rules to include assets like crypto, requiring investment advisers to hold client assets with qualified custodians, such as federal- or state-chartered banks.

In his remarks at an investment conference in San Diego on Monday, acting SEC chair Mark Uyeda acknowledged “significant concerns” raised by industry commenters over the “broad scope” of Gensler’s proposal. 

“Given such concern, there may be significant challenges to proceeding with the original proposal,” Uyeda said. 

The regulator mentioned he had directed the SEC staff to work with the agency’s crypto task force to explore alternatives, including withdrawing the rule altogether.

The former SEC chair’s leadership was defined by stringent crypto oversight, but his resignation before Trump took office marked a pivot in the SEC’s regulatory direction.

The SEC’s stance on crypto has shifted considerably under President Donald Trump’s leadership, with a more lenient and collaborative approach replacing the hostile regulatory posture of the Biden administration. 

With Uyeda now at the helm, the SEC is reconsidering several major policies from Gensler’s era, including contentious crypto regulations, which led to a lawsuit by 18 states before his departure.

The changes include rethinking the expanded definition of “exchanges” and halting the enforcement of certain rules that targeted crypto firms.

The SEC under Trump also revoked the s Staff Accounting Bulletin (SAB) 121 rule that required firms holding crypto assets to record them as liabilities on their balance sheets.

The regulator has since dropped enforcement actions against major crypto firms, including Binance, Kraken, and Coinbase, among others, signaling a major relief from the taxing legal battles and uncertainty that plagued the industry for the past few years.

In line with the Trump administration’s approach to crypto regulation, a significant crypto initiative was the formation of a dedicated crypto task force led by Commissioner ‘Crypto Mom’ Hester Peirce. 

The task force is tasked with working closely with the crypto industry, with its inaugural roundtable, “How We Got Here and How We Get Out – Defining Security Status,” scheduled to be held this Friday.
