Major Moves: Loewe Appoints Former Proenza Schouler Designers As Creative Directors; Mugler Names A New Designer

With the global economy slowing down, the fashion industry has never been more volatile — and designers have never been more vulnerable. In the past year, the fashion news cycle has seen plenty of creative directors come and go between coveted top spots at the helm of luxury brands. Veteran figures like Hedi Slimane and John Galliano left their roles at Celine and Maison Margiela respectively, with nothing else lined up (as far as we know). There were some exciting changes, too: last December, Matthieu Blazy left Bottega Veneta to join the house of Chanel, ending months of rumours and speculations about who would be Virginie Viard’s successor. Meanwhile, his former role at Bottega Veneta was taken up by Louise Trotter, the former creative director of Carven.

If 2024 was full of twists and turns in fashion’s so-called “game” of musical chairs, 2025 is already looking to outdo it. Ahead, tune into all the major shifts within the fashion industry and catch up on all the fashion news to know, from creative director appointments to departures.

Mugler Names A New Creative Director As Casey Cadwallader Exits

MARCH 2025: Mugler appoints Miguel Castro Freitas as creative director (Photo: Robi Rodriguez, courtesy of Mugler)

Hot on the heels of Loewe’s major announcement, Mugler has named its new creative director: Miguel Castro Freitas.

Freitas succeeds Casey Cadwallader, who has helmed Mugler since 2018. During his seven-year tenure, Cadwallader reinvigorated the French fashion brand founded by Thierry Mugler with a fresh energy, offering bodycon styles and cut-out catsuits that were embraced by popstars like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and more.

Freitas is a relatively behind-the-scenes figure in the fashion industry. Prior to his appointment at Mugler, the Portugal-born designer and Central Saint Martins graduate worked at Lanvin, Dior (first during John Galliano’s tenure, and again under Raf Simons), Dries Van Noten and, most recently, Sportmax, Max Mara’s sister brand.

In a statement, Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum, the global brand president of Mugler Fashion and Fragrances, said: “Miguel lives and breathes the Mugler spirit. His deep understanding of Mugler’s DNA and his vast creativity and talent made him a natural choice.”

Freitas will join Mugler officially on 1 April. He will present his first Mugler collection during the Spring/Summer 2026 season at Paris Fashion Week this September.

Loewe Appoints Former Proenza Schouler Designers As Creative Directors

On 24 March, Loewe named not one but two new creative directors: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, formerly of Proenza Schouler.McCollough and Hernandez will take the helm of the Spanish luxury fashion brand from 7 April. The designer duo will oversee all of Loewe’s collections, including womenswear, menswear, leather goods and accessories.

In a joint statement, the designers shared, “We are incredibly honoured to join Loewe, a house whose values and mission align closely with our own. We look forward to working alongside its extraordinary teams and artisans, whose talent—under the exceptional creative direction of Jonathan Anderson—has shaped Loewe into the cultural force it is today.”

The news comes just a week after Jonathan Anderson announced his departure from Loewe, ending his 11-year tenure. McCollough and Hernandez exited Proenza Schouler in January 2025 after an even longer tenure. The pair, who met at Parsons School of Design, founded Proenza Schouler in 2002 and immediately established it as one of New York’s most beloved fashion brands. They went on to win five CFDA awards at their womenswear label.

Sidney Toledano, the chief executive of the LVMH Fashion Group, said in a statement, “I have long admired Jack and Lazaro’s work at Proenza Schouler, their eclectic creativity and dedication to craft make them a natural choice to build the next chapter for Loewe.”

Jonathan Anderson Exits Loewe After 11 Years

Jonathan Anderson has officially announced his exit from Loewe.

The fashion designer shared the news of his departure on Instagram, a few days after Loewe’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection was presented at Paris Fashion Week.

“Eleven years ago, I was given the most incredible opportunity: to write a chapter in a story that is now 179 years old,” wrote Anderson. “They say all good things must come to an end, but I disagree. While my own chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come and I will look on with pride.”

Anderson joined Loewe as creative director in 2013, and he spent the next 11 years shaping the Spanish luxury house with his eccentric vision. At Loewe’s fashion shows for men and women, he often unveiled surreal items that would go viral, like balloon shoes and hoop dresses. He also oversaw the brand’s buzzy collaborations with On, Studio Ghibli and Paula’s Ibiza.

Anderson also launched the Loewe Craft Prize in 2016. The designer wrote, “We created a platform that genuinely supports and gives visibility to vanishing crafts, young makers, old masters, and new ideas. I would like to thank the (Loewe) Foundation team, the members of the Jury and Expert panel for their time and dedication.”

Reflecting on his legacy at Loewe, Anderson wrote, “Since day one, I envisioned creating a cultural brand. This idea relied heavily on the trust and generosity of the many artists, craftspeople, estates, foundations, museums and galleries who contributed their work. I am sincerely grateful to you all.”

Anderson’s successor at Loewe has not been named. Many fashion insiders speculate that Anderson is headed to Dior (Kim Jones stepped down from his role as creative director of Dior Men in January 2025). The designer will continue to helm his eponymous label, JW Anderson.

Demna Is The New Artistic Director of Gucci

After 10 years at Balenciaga, Demna has been appointed to the role of artistic director at Gucci, one of the biggest fashion houses in the industry. He is expected to join the house early July, after presenting his final couture collection for Balenciaga.

“I am truly excited to join the Gucci family. It is an honour to contribute to a House that I deeply respect and have long admired. I look forward to writing together with Stefano and the whole team a new chapter of Gucci’s amazing story,” the designer said in a statement.

Donatella Versace Steps Down As Creative Director; Dario Vitale Succeeds Her As Chief Creative Officer

Over in Milan, Donatella Versace has stepped down as creative director of Versace after 30 years in the role. She will take on the newly created role of chief brand ambassador, while Dario Vitale, who cut his teeth at brands like Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta, has been installed as the brand’s new chief creative officer.

“I am truly honoured to join Versace as the chief creative officer and to be a part of this special and powerful fashion luxury House created by Gianni and Donatella,” Vitale said in a statement. “The House of Versace has a unique heritage that has spanned decades and has shaped the history of fashion. I want to express my sincere thank you to Donatella for her trust in me, and for her tireless dedication to the extraordinary brand that Versace is today. It is a privilege to contribute to the future growth of Versace and its global impact through my vision, expertise and dedication.”

Following the announcement, Donatella shared a heartfelt Instagram post following the news with the caption, “I hope I’ve made you proud so far”, undoubtedly a dedication to her late brother Gianni Versace, who founded the brand in 1978.

Sabato De Sarno Leaves Gucci

Sabato De Sarno is leaving Gucci after two years. The news was announced via a statement from the Italian luxury brand on 6 February.

In that statement, Gucci CEO Stefano Cantino says, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to Sabato for his passion and dedication to Gucci. I sincerely appreciate how he honoured Gucci’s craftsmanship and heritage with such commitment.”

De Sarno joined Gucci as its creative director in 2023, succeeding Alessandro Michele. The Italian fashion designer brought a minimalist vision to Gucci’s womenswear and menswear collections, with a focus on wardrobe staples, coats and tailoring. His Gucci campaigns were similarly straightforward, and he made an effort to spotlight emerging models in them. De Sarno also tapped celebrities like Dakota Johnson, Kendall Jenner, Paul Mescal and Debbie Harry to front Gucci’s campaigns.

The 41-year-old designer started his fashion career as an assistant pattern-maker at Prada, and during his early years at Valentino, where he was design director, he focused on designing men’s coats. De Sarno’s tenure at Gucci, which he joined after leaving Valentino, lasted two years.

De Sarno’s successor is yet to be announced. Gucci will present a collection from its in-house design team during its Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show on 25 February, during Milan Fashion Week.

Kim Jones Exits Dior

Kim Jones is leaving Dior. The British designer is making his exit mere days after presenting his Dior Men’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection in Paris, which received a standing ovation. In January 2025, Jones was also awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian honour.

Jones spent seven years at the helm of Dior, taking over Kris Van Assche in 2018. He drew upon the maison’s rich archives of womenswear and haute couture to create desirable menswear. He also created buzz with a string of collaborations with the likes of Nike, Kaws, Shawn Stussy, Hajime Sorayama, Travis Scott and Lewis Hamilton.

On top of being recognised at the CFDA and the British Fashion Awards, Jones was also awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2020. The news of Jones’s departure from Dior comes three months after he stepped down at Fendi, where he served as artistic director of haute couture and women’s ready-to-wear.

In a statement, Jones said, “It was a true honour to have been able to create my collections within the house of Dior, a symbol of absolute excellence. I express my deep gratitude to my studio and the ateliers who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey. They have brought my creations to life. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the artists and friends I have met through my collaborations. Lastly, I feel sincere gratitude towards Bernard and Delphine Arnault, who have given me their full support.”

Dior has yet to announce Jones’s successor.

Glenn Martens Joins Maison Margiela

JANUARY 2025: Glenn Martens is the new creative director of Maison Margiela (Photo: Instagram / @kylieminogue)

Glenn Martens has been named as the new creative director of Maison Margiela.

The Belgian designer succeeds John Galliano, who left the Paris-based fashion label in December 2024 after a decade.

“I have worked with Glenn for years, I have witnessed his talent, and I know what he is capable of,” said Renzo Rosso, chairman of OTB Group, which owns Maison Margiela. The label was founded in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela, who retired from the fashion industry in 2009.

“After Martin, who gave life to the maison and its unique Artisanal line, and John who made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world, I am proud to have a third couturier at its helm,” added Rosso. “Glenn, who studied at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts like Martin, has already shown his prowess and his vision in couture.”

Martens is currently the creative director of Diesel — also owned by OTB Group — and was formerly at the helm of Y/Project. The 41-year-old designer left his role as creative director of Y/Project in September 2024, and the French fashion was shuttered in January 2025.

The date of Martens’s first fashion show for Maison Margiela is yet to be announced.

The announcement from Maison Margiela and its parent company OTB Group did not specify when Martens would show his first collection for the brand.

The Cost of New Creative Directors

The Cost of New Creative Directors

In the efforts to attract new audiences and stay relevant in an evolving luxury market, creative directors are often tasked with rebranding renowned fashion houses. While this injects a fresh perspective to a Maison and opens the opportunity for profits, it can also be something of a double-edged sword that could chip away at the “true essence” of the founder’s heritage, shifting the focus from legacy to trend-driven appeal. As designers reinterpret brand histories through selective eras or aesthetics, the risk of diluting tradition grows, leaving fashion giants in a constant cycle of balancing reinvention at the expense of authenticity.

Rise of the “Rebranding” Era

The luxury fashion industry operates at a crossroads — where heritage and reinvention are constantly at odds. Previous years have seen the former appointments of visionary creative directors like Alessandro Michele at Gucci and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent illustrating how the industry (or rather their conglomerates) prioritises a bold, contemporary overhaul to captivate new audiences. Michele’s maximalist, vintage-inspired take propelled Gucci to fresh cultural relevance, while Slimane’s Saint Laurent fixated on the rock-and-roll aesthetic — sidelining other aspects of Yves Saint Laurent’s legacy. These shifts may generate buzz and financial success, but they often leave behind the nuanced, multifaceted heritage of the original founders.

Yves Saint Laurent was pivotal in shaping the 1960s mod era, introducing sharp tailoring, A-line silhouettes and clean, architectural lines that were more refined than the grunge-heavy Saint Laurent of today. His designs for women, like the 1966 Le Smoking tuxedo and safari jackets, embodied a forward-thinking modernity that was bold yet elegant. During his tenure, Slimane cemented the brand’s reputation as the go-to for skinny jeans, biker jackets and indie-rock aesthetics, largely omitting Saint Laurent’s more refined innovations. His version of Saint Laurent became synonymous with punk and youth subcultures, but at the cost of other dimensions of the brand’s heritage. Hedi Slimane’s interpretation of Saint Laurent’s legacy prioritised the brand’s rock-and-roll persona, but this narrow lens overlooks the full breadth of Yves Saint Laurent’s innovative fashion — from the renowned le smoking tuxedo jacket to his embrace of global inspirations. In focusing on one chapter, the brand lost the richness of its founder’s multidimensional story.

Similarly, it was McQueen’s dramatic silhouettes, controversial narratives and conceptual runway showcases inspired by historical events, personal struggles or macabre fairy tales — that challenged fashion norms. When Sarah Burton took over as creative director, she carried on McQueen’s craftsmanship but steered the brand toward a more wearable, commercially palatable aesthetic. While her designs retained McQueen’s appreciation for intricate details and couture-level execution, they lacked the raw, provocative edge that made his work so distinctive.

Despite this, Burton’s McQueen was successful, and her tenure was marked by technically brilliant designs. However, it was arguably tamer, prioritising elegance over shock value. Now, with Sean McGirr taking over, there is speculation about whether McQueen’s original daring spirit will return or if the brand will continue down a more “commercial” path. That being said, having a collection with “commercial” appeal is not necessarily a bad thing as evidenced by the success of Sarah Burton’s tenure and Maria Grazia Churi at Dior.

The Fine Line Between Evolution and Erasure

Maintaining a brand’s DNA while catering to modern audiences is an increasingly delicate balancing act. At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s feminist-driven collections have reshaped the house’s identity, infusing it with new cultural relevance — but at the expense of the romantic, architectural silhouettes that once defined Christian Dior’s vision. Similarly, Virginie Viard’s Chanel leans into the ease of wearability, yet risks diluting the theatrical craftsmanship that Karl Lagerfeld cemented as the brand’s modern identity. The challenge for these brands is not just about staying relevant but ensuring that reinvention does not come at the cost of heritage.

Under Lagerfeld, Chanel experienced immense commercial success, yet his embrace of casual wear — T-shirts and even menswear — diverted the focus from the intricate, artistic side of Chanel that had made the brand a symbol of Parisian haute couture. Virginie Viard’s tenure has been marked by a softer, more approachable aesthetic that feels safe compared to Lagerfeld’s daring creations. While this has resonated with some consumers, it is also seen by some as less “groundbreaking”, losing the edge that Chanel once had.

Kim Jones — who draws inspiration from Christian Dior’s life and eccentricities — has successfully reinterpreted the brand’s legacy, offering a modern, gender-fluid perspective without losing its spirit. His Dior Men collections introduce layers of personal connection to the founder, giving consumers a deeper emotional bond to the brand. By referencing Dior’s life and eccentricities, Jones invites consumers to connect with the history of the brand on a deeper, more personal level. This adds layers to the designs and gives the collections emotional depth, rather than presenting them as mere reinventions of past glories. It enriches the brand narrative without losing its identity. Jones does not simply replicate Dior’s designs or ideas but reinterprets them, reflecting how the house’s rich history can be recontextualised in today’s fashion landscape. For example, he may reference Dior’s passion for gardens or the iconic New Look but adapts them with a modern, sometimes gender-fluid, sensibility that speaks to a new generation of luxury consumers.

Demna arguably played a huge role in transforming the Maison into a cultural phenomenon but was at times criticised for not successfully bridging his approach with Cristóbal Balenciaga’s original vision. His designs include everything from dystopian aesthetics and meme-worthy footwear (like the sock sneaker and Crocs collaborations) to provocative ad campaigns. Despite the contrast, Demna has echoed Balenciaga’s original craftsmanship in some ways. His tailoring — particularly in structured coats and draped dresses — nods to Cristóbal’s technical genius. However, his prioritisation of branding, streetwear and shock value has, at times, overshadowed this aspect.

Unlike many other luxury houses, Louis Vuitton has managed to modernise while remaining true to its origins. Founded in 1854 as a trunk-making company, Louis Vuitton’s DNA remains deeply embedded in its roots of travel. While creative directors like Marc Jacobs, Kim Jones, Virgil Abloh and now Pharrell Williams have introduced contemporary elements, the brand’s core identity — luxury travel — remains intact. Its iconic monogram, steamer trunks and travel-inspired accessories continue to be a cornerstone of its identity.

Unlike Saint Laurent or Balenciaga — which have undergone extreme transformations — Louis Vuitton’s evolution has been more seamless. Even with streetwear collaborations and experimental designs, its heritage as a trunkmaker and its commitment to artisanal craftsmanship remain central.

What Comes Next: The Future of Fashion’s Heritage Houses

The Cost of New Creative Directors

As fashion moves into a new era of creative leadership, questions arise about whether heritage brands will continue reshaping their pasts or if the industry will see a return to their founding principles. Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel and Jonathan Anderson’s potential move to Dior Men could redefine house codes with a fresh perspective, while Alessandro Michele’s Valentino may pay closer homage to Valentino Garavani’s original elegance. On the other hand, history has proven that some of fashion’s most admired rebrands — from John Galliano’s extravagant Dior to Hedi Slimane’s singular take on YSL — had little resemblance to their founders’ original visions.

As it stands, Demna’s tenure at Balenciaga is at an end and he is moving to Gucci. Donatella Versace is stepping down from her role as creative director. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez — the visionary duo behind Proenza Schouler — are set to succeed Jonathan Anderson as LOEWE’s new creative directors. Matthieu Blazy moves to Chanel while Glenn Martens makes a move to Maison Margiela. Louise Trotter will be at the helm of Bottega Veneta while Michael Rider is at Celine and Simone Bellotti is Jil Sander. Jonathan Anderson is rumoured to be heading to Dior as roles in Fendi and Balenciaga are still open. As the fashion industry continue on its game of musical chairs, these brands will face tough decisions about how to evolve while maintaining their original identities.

2025 Ramadan Capsule Collections Combine Sartorial Modesty With Modernity

2025 Ramadan Capsule Collections Combine Sartorial Modesty With Modernity

There is a short story by Malaysian writer Karim Raslan entitled “Bunga Telur and Bally Shoes”, which explores themes of tradition, modernity and social class in Malaysia. The story contrasts the deeply rooted cultural practice of bunga telur — a symbol of blessings and continuity — with material success, represented by a pair of expensive Bally shoes. While the narrative centres on social mobility, it also reflects a broader regional truth: an inherent appreciation for material refinement alongside a steadfast commitment to cultural heritage. This balance is precisely where luxury brands position themselves during Ramadan season. Brands are increasingly focusing on shoes, bags and accessories for their Ramadan offerings, recognising that many consumers turn to traditional attire and regional designers or tailors for their Raya clothing.

Rather than competing in the space of festive garments, global luxury houses position their selections as complementary — with shoes and accessories becoming the point of departure, enhancing modest silhouettes with a touch of opulence. Handbags and statement footwear, in particular, appeal to the exuberance of the season, allowing for self-expression while remaining in harmony with the occasion’s refined elegance. While Lunar New Year is often associated with prosperity and good fortune symbolised by the colour red, Ramadan carries a different essence — one of reflection, spirituality and communal celebration. This sentiment is reflected in the collections unveiled for the season, where brands lean into rich, jewel-toned palettes, intricate embellishments and thoughtful craftsmanship that mirror the depth and beauty of Ramadan’s traditions.

As luxury brands increasingly recognise the significance of Ramadan, exclusive capsule collections are emerging as a way to honour tradition while embracing contemporary design. From MCM to Miu Miu, these collections blend modesty with modernity, offering stylish yet culturally resonant pieces that cater to both regional and global audiences. While some brands craft Ramadan-specific collections, others integrate modestwear into their core offerings — proving that conservative fashion is not just a moment but a lasting shift in luxury. Modestwear collections are not just for Ramadan, but also speak to a growing demand for clothing that combines style with a more covered, modest aesthetic.

The International Perspective

For global luxury houses, Ramadan capsule collections have become more than just seasonal drops — they are strategic expansions into a market with immense purchasing power. Brands like Celine, Balenciaga and Jimmy Choo have embraced the festive season with exclusive releases that blend their signature aesthetics with subtle nods to Middle Eastern tastes. Whether through opulent fabrics, jewel-toned colour palettes or elegant silhouettes, these collections cater to consumers seeking both celebratory occasionwear and statement investment pieces. The approach varies — some brands lean into gifting culture with accessories and fine leather goods, while others create entire ready-to-wear lines that align with modest dressing principles. Yet, for these international powerhouses, Ramadan is not just about the release of fashion capsule collections alone — it is also a chance to cement cultural relevance and deepen ties with a discerning clientele.

Celine

Celine’s foray into the Ramadan market aligns with the growing demand for luxury fashion that caters to the cultural and sartorial preferences of consumers in the Middle East, South East Asia and beyond. Under Hedi Slimane’s creative direction, the brand has cultivated a sleek, structured aesthetic that resonates with modest fashion sensibilities — flowing silhouettes, high-neck blouses and longline tailoring have long been integral to its collections. Featuring pearlescent python and glossy crocodile leathers, the collection exudes refinement, while silk pyjama sets — paired with sandals and accessories — offer a balance of comfort and elegance. This makes Celine’s Ramadan offering a natural extension of its design philosophy, seamlessly blending contemporary minimalism with the opulence often sought during the festive season.

For luxury brands, Ramadan presents a key retail moment, much like the Lunar New Year or Christmas, with a surge in demand for occasionwear, accessories and exclusive drops tailored to the celebratory mood. Celine’s approach leans into its heritage of craftsmanship and understated elegance, appealing to consumers seeking exquisite materials and luminous hues. One could argue that Celine’s Ramadan capsule is not purely designed for consumers to wear during Eid celebrations, given its emphasis on silk pyjama sets and statement accessories rather than traditional occasionwear. Instead, the collection appears to be tapping into the Ramadan and Eid gifting market, where luxury purchases — from handbags to fine accessories — hold cultural significance as tokens of appreciation and generosity during the festive season.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga’s Ramadan 25 Series reimagines the brand’s House signatures. The womenswear and menswear collection features a rich colour palette of dark burgundy and pine green, seen across the emblematic Rodeo, Bel Air, Hourglass and Le City Bag lines, along with ready-to-wear pieces like fluid viscose dresses, skirts, blouse and shirts. A standout of the collection is the bags with the Rodeo Top Handle bag reimagined with a black strass-embellished finish, while jewelry and accessories featuring Arabic typographic motifs — necklaces, bracelets and keyrings — add to the collection’s cultural connection. The series also introduces Maison staples in classic beige and black colourways, such as hoodies, T-shirts, tailored jackets, Knife Mules and Cosy Sandals. While Balenciaga remains rooted in its edgy, urban aesthetic, the series subtly incorporates more elevated pieces — like the flowing viscose garments and the Arabic typographic motifs in the jewellery. This makes the collection more versatile, catering not just to those who will wear it during Ramadan festivities but also to those who are looking for exclusive pieces to integrate into their wardrobes year-round.

MCM

Noor Stars fronts MCM’s second Ramadan capsule collection. The campaign sees the celebrated digital creator as the face of its 2025 Ramadan campaign. As the latest addition to MCM’s “Maverick tribe” — a diverse and dynamic group of digital nomads who chart their own paths — Noor Stars brings her global influence to the brand’s second Ramadan capsule collection. With over 60 million followers, Noor exemplifies the spirit of individuality and creative rule-breaking that defines MCM’s ethos.

A beloved figure in the Middle East, Noor Stars’ journey beautifully blends Eastern values with a global, modern perspective. Having grown up in the West while remaining deeply connected to her cultural heritage, Noor’s narrative resonates with MCM’s commitment to pushing boundaries while celebrating universal creativity. Ramadan — a time for reflection, generosity and togetherness — serves as the ideal backdrop to tell Noor’s story. With her unwavering connection to her roots and her advocacy for women’s empowerment, Noor becomes the perfect talent to represent MCM’s Ramadan collection. Through the lens of photographer Morwoyne Mezeraia and videographer Yassin Yassin, the campaign reimagines tradition, blending modernity with cultural heritage to create stunning visuals.

The five-piece Ramadan collection features a black silk robe with intricate embroidery, a high-neck shirt paired with sleek trousers and a small black diamond crossbody bag. The bag’s geometric design is inspired by the Bavarian diamonds of Munich, with the signature Laurel logo embossed on the front, a metal hardware handle and an adjustable leather strap for practicality. The collection’s design incorporates spatial reflections and shimmery accents, invoking the interplay of light and shadow — both a hallmark of the Ramadan season and Noor’s vibrant personality.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors marks the festive season with a refined Ramadan capsule collection, crafted exclusively for the Valiram-distributed markets. Centred on understated luxury, the collection introduces limited-edition Tribeca handbags, espadrilles and ready-to-wear pieces. The Tribeca handbags — available in opulent cream and sage with a pearlised finish — take centre stage. Each piece is adorned with a commemorative plaque honouring Eid al-Fitr, elevating it beyond an accessory to a keepsake. With only a select number available per style, the collection reinforces the allure of exclusivity. Complementing the handbags, the capsule includes espadrilles that balance comfort and elegance, making them an effortless choice for Ramadan gatherings and festive evenings. The ready-to-wear selection follows suit, featuring tailored separates that embody refinement while embracing the principles of modest dressing. Designed for the modern woman who values both tradition and style, Michael Kors’ Ramadan collection offers a seamless blend of celebration and sophistication.

The Regional Approach

In contrast to international brands, homegrown and regional labels take a more intrinsic approach, weaving Ramadan into their design ethos in a way that feels organic rather than seasonal. With a deep-rooted understanding of cultural nuances, these brands move beyond trend-driven interpretations, offering pieces that reflect both religious values and contemporary style. From abaya specialists redefining modern modestwear to Malaysian designers crafting intricate kaftans and demi-couture pieces, the regional market showcases a more immersive take on Ramadan dressing. Rather than treating the holy month as a standalone moment, these brands often integrate modest silhouettes, luxurious embellishments and artisanal techniques into their collections year-round — making Ramadan capsules a seamless extension of their existing identity.

Khoon Hooi

Khoon Hooi’s Raya 2025 collection is a study in contrasts — where classic silhouettes find new energy through bold details and heritage is reimagined with a touch of surrealism. Drawing inspiration from 1950s Malaysian fashion icon Saloma, the collection honours timeless elegance while embracing contemporary sensibilities. The result is a line-up that feels both refined and exuberant. The “Baju Kebaya” and “Baju Kurung” take centre stage, crafted from floral brocade, fil coupé and velvet jacquard for a sophisticated yet statement-making effect. For the first time, floral-printed chiffon makes its debut, lending an ethereal lightness to the collection. Complementing these silhouettes is a capsule of “Baju Kedah”, elevated with guipure lace and geometric jacquard, offering a fresh take on a heritage favourite. With structured shapes, irregular hemlines and intricate details, Khoon Hooi once again balances classic elegance with contemporary flair.

The collection’s colour palette is equally dynamic, playing with the contrast between timeless black and white, muted pastels and rich jewel tones. Asymmetrical draping, pleats and origami-inspired elements add movement, while floral embellishments, crystal chains and an array of brooches introduce a layer of festive sparkle. The Khoon Hooi Raya 2025 collection is a tribute to the past, woven seamlessly into the present — a celebration of heritage that continues to evolve.

The Lina set reinvents the “Baju Kurung” with striped floral brocade, a wide neckline and puffy sleeves adorned with lace patches and floral embellishments, striking a balance between effortless elegance and delicate drama. The fully lined skirt — structured with box pleats at the back — maintains a fluid silhouette. Meanwhile, the Nala set blends tradition with modern refinement, featuring a fil coupé top with demure lace trims and a sarong-style striped satin skirt, elevated by three floral brooches with dangling pearls and glass bead embellishments that add texture and subtle sparkle. For those drawn to glamour, the Trisya Baju Kebaya set dazzles with a floral sequin top lined with organza for lightweight structure, paired with an overlapped draped satin skirt with glass bead detailing at the hem, while floral pearl brooches down the front lend vintage sophistication. The Rani set, in deep, rich hues, turns heads with its luxurious velvet jacquard fabric, delicate lace trims and oval pearl-crystal brooches that add dimension and shimmer. Fastened with a discreet hook-and-eye closure, its fully lined sarong skirt ensures both comfort and elegance with an elastic waistband and back zipper. Together, these designs redefine tradition with contemporary artistry, making a bold statement for the festive season.

Kit Woo

Kit Woo’s first-ever Raya and Pre-Spring capsule collection reimagines traditional Malay silhouettes through a contemporary lens, creating a dialogue between heritage and modernity. In what he considers his most gender-neutral collection to date, Woo strips tradition down to its core and reconstructs it with architectural precision, refining each piece into something both familiar and entirely new. Silat, the ancient martial art of the Nusantara, serves as a key inspiration. Its fluid movements and controlled power echo through the collection’s clean lines, sculptural drapes, and dynamic layering. Traditional garments form the foundation, but their transformation is subtle yet radical — meticulously tailored yet free from rigidity.

At the heart of the collection is a structured “Baju Melayu”, designed with a distinctive button closure in black and white, a nod to classic tailoring with a contemporary edge. A languid “Jubah” takes shape with adjustable drawstring details and an asymmetrical collar, offering versatility in movement and wear. A sharply tailored “Samping” suit in black subverts traditional menswear codes, while a collarless tailored jacket with raw edges challenges the boundaries of formalwear. Trousers echo the collection’s interplay of structure and fluidity, with Samping-inspired wraps and closures that deconstruct the idea of ceremonial dress.

Fabric choices reinforce Woo’s signature aesthetic — indigo denim, chambray and Oxford shirting bring texture and depth, elevating the collection beyond mere reinterpretation. The restrained palette of white, indigo blue and black ensures that each piece is effortlessly wearable, designed to be styled and layered in multiple ways. Beyond the pieces themselves, Woo invites the wearer to engage in the process of self-styling. The collection is trans-seasonal, meant to be worn, reworked and reshaped over time. In a world where tradition is often seen as fixed, Woo presents it as something fluid — an evolving conversation between past and present, structure and movement, tradition and personal identity.

Fiziwoo

As Fiziwoo marks ten years of Raya ready-to-wear collections, the brand reflects on a decade of evolution, challenges and triumphs. More than a milestone, this is a tribute to those who have shaped its journey — celebrities, fashion stylists, loyal customers and supporters who have been part of the brand’s story. To honour this moment, Fiziwoo names each piece in the collection after individuals who have played a role in its success. Familiar names like Marion, Neelofa, Zaihani and Minluna now grace its designs. But “Journey” is more than a nostalgic nod — it is an embodiment of the designers’ personal and professional evolution, in both craftsmanship and spirituality.

For designers Fizi and Kai, “Journey” is deeply personal. It signifies their growth as designers and individuals, shaped in part by their recent Umrah pilgrimage. This experience reinforced their commitment to self-improvement, infusing a greater sense of purpose into their work.

Inspired by the old Arabic souks of Saudi Arabia, a place the designers encountered during their pilgrimage, the collection carries the warmth and mystique of these ancient markets. Arabic calligraphy influences its typography, while the campaign’s visual direction captures the rustic yet refined essence of these historic spaces. A palette of dusty sand, golden hues and earthy tones mirrors the vast desert landscapes, paying homage to Middle Eastern heritage.

Revisiting its archives, Fiziwoo draws inspiration from its best-selling Raya ready-to-wear designs over the past ten years. Signatures silhouettes are reimagined with refined craftsmanship, giving customers fresh interpretations of beloved pieces. This year, Fiziwoo introduces its largest Raya collection yet, with 32 womenswear and 50 menswear pieces. The womenswear collection embraces diverse silhouettes suited for modern and modest women alike, featuring three exclusive fabric selections — polyblend brocade, polyblend cotton and embroidered cotton lace — each finished with fagot-knit border lace and crystal bow embellishments. For menswear, Fiziwoo makes a bold move by introducing its first “Baju Melayu” set, blending the Spread English collar with the traditional Cekak Musang for a modern yet refined aesthetic. The collection also includes embroidered cotton linen kurtas in 30 colours, spanning pastels, earthy tones and jewel hues. A new pinstripe-textured fabric adds depth to the classic Baju Melayu, reinforcing Fiziwoo’s commitment to innovation.

Rizman Ruzaini

Rizman Ruzaini marks its 20th anniversary in 2025 with a bold return to the Raya season, unveiling three distinct collections that capture the essence of the brand’s legacy. Alongside the return of the much-loved Couture Raya collection, the fashion house introduces two ready-to-wear lines, including the revival of the Rizman Ruzaini Red label. This milestone reaffirms the brand’s place in Malaysian fashion, blending nostalgia with modern sophistication. Following the success of the Rizman Ruzaini Spring Summer 2025 collection at Dubai Fashion Week, the inspiration behind the Mustika collection has been reinterpreted for Raya 2025. The couture line pays homage to Malaysia’s cultural heritage, marrying traditional silhouettes with contemporary craftsmanship. Kebaya-inspired designs, intricate pleats and embroidery showcase a refined approach to Malay fashion’s evolution. The collection’s muse, Yang Mulia Tengku Shaheera binti Tengku Abdullah, embodies the elegance of the modern Malay woman, reinforcing the collection’s theme of heritage and sophistication.

The Mustika collection draws inspiration from classic Malay films such as Perempuan Melayu Terakhir, Penarek Becha and Rachun Dunia, evoking a sense of nostalgia and highlighting the enduring significance of the kebaya. The 23-piece collection features opulent fabrics like velvet, premium crepe, tulle and chiffon, finished with machine embroidery that takes cues from Malay and Peranakan motifs. Creative Director Ruzaini Jamil has reimagined customer favourites, refining them with a contemporary edge while staying true to the brand’s signature aesthetic. Featuring eight distinctive designs in soft hues, the collection is crafted from luxurious chiffon and adorned with delicate embellishments.

Completing the trio of collections is the revival of Rizman Ruzaini Red, the brand’s accessible yet equally striking ready-to-wear line. Designed as a more attainable extension of the couture collection, it channels the “Mustika” inspiration into eight refined yet wearable designs. The collection reimagines traditional silhouettes, offering variations of “Baju Kurung Kedah”, “Baju Kurung Pahang”, “Baju Kurung Moden”, “Kebaya” and “Kebaya Labuh”. Crafted from crepe and lace, most designs come with a complementary shawl, adding an elegant finishing touch. With these three collections, Rizman Ruzaini cements its place at the forefront of Malaysian fashion, honouring its past while embracing the future. Each piece reflects the house’s dedication to craftsmanship, innovation and timeless style, ensuring that Raya 2025 is celebrated with elegance.

Hotel Review: The Ned NoMad New York

Hotel Review: The Ned NoMad New York

If you are familiar with the private club concept that comes with staying at The Ned (or being a member), then this well-located hotel is for you. Its small lobby is the first indication that The Ned NoMad New York is not like other hotels in the neighborhood. It oozes sophistication and charm, making it feel like you have stepped into somewhere that is reserved for someone special.

While there is membership, this hotel is one of New York’s special gems. Here are five reasons why you should give it a try, whether you belong to its club or not.

The rooms

The rooms here are just as swanky as a public areas, and the variance size from the smaller Classics or Crash Pads to the much larger Grand and Studio rooms. What they have in common are beautiful hardwood floors with colorful area Ruth’s and a mix of antique and modern furnishings. It’s an early 20th century vibe, but in closer inspection although the modern conveniences are in place. Yes, you can charge your phone using the latest USB port, for example.

You’ll sink right into the beds with pillowtop mattresses, thick duvets and a bevy of pillows up against studded leather headboards. Eclectic design pieces and books like the shelves and tables. Work space is plentiful, and closets have all the necessities, including umbrellas. Deluxe rooms have cozy armchairs while Grand rooms and larger come with sofas.

The most impressive feature, besides the views from many of the rooms of the bustling neighborhood, are the bathrooms. Like other Ned properties, vanities stock Cowshed products, but not just small bottles. Instead, there are a half dozen full-size bottles of every scent and desired effect from rejuvenating to relaxing. By the sinks, some of which are open to the room (like in Studios), are even more toiletries like combs, razors and even condoms. Larger rooms add soaking tubs in the room.

The suites are real winners here. The salon and larger rotunda suites have separate living areas, and the Broadway sweep is enormous with lovely views of its namesake neighborhood. The largest is the Johnston Terrace Suite, which comes with a proper dining room, living room and stunning outdoor terrace.

The membership

Similar to its hotels in London, Washington DC and Doha, this hotel offers membership rates that allow others to enjoy exclusive access to special events, deals at its food, beverage and spa outlets, and priority service. Few other hotels tread this line, and the benefit of being a guest here is that you feel just like one of the members (as long as your key unlocks one of the guest rooms here).

Members can access the Library for a space to work away from home or the office and both the Magic Room and the Club room for live music or special events. They can also attend special panels and educational talks. And when they have guests in town, they enjoy special member rates for overnight stays.

If you’re a Ned member in Doha, you have access to any of the other locations, for example. It is this type of exclusivity, as well as opportunity to hob knob with other elite of the same ilk, that pays off for joining. If you chat with members, story after story reveals how membership has paid off in spades for them. They have closed big deals, networked with investors and even sparked romantic relationships among the people that they meet here.

This should come as no surprise since The Ned is born from Soho House’s Membership Collective Group although there is no reciprocal access between the brands.

The food

Cecconi’s, the main restaurant here, is a local institution. While it serves a decadent breakfast, it is the lunch and dinner menus that draw the most interest. Expect dishes like an authentic taglierini cacio e pepe, cavatelli with lamb ragu and veal Milanese.

Once the sun sets, don’t expect to parade around as you wish. A strict dress code calls for at least business casual attire if you want to enter some of the swanky bar spaces. The most prized vantage point is up on the rooftop where the city’s glittering skyline unfurls as you sip sexy cocktails (or mocktails) or indulge in the bar bites menu.

Little Ned serves light bites and craft cocktails to complement the famous Cecconi’s menu. Top Chef winner and culinary host Kristen Kish is adding her talents to the menu here, which means there are plenty of reason to dine onsite and hob knob with members rather than fight for a table elsewhere.

The location

In the heart of Broadway’s bustling theater district and not far from most major tourist and business addresses, this hotel is in the center of it all. It sits in the landmark Johnston Building, which dates back to 1908. Seen from across the street, the Beaux Arts architecture is rather chic and striking, alluding to the interesting encounters that a visit might entail.

This is New York City after all, and space is at a premium. There are not as many restaurants and bars as other Ned properties, but the city-center NYC location makes up for it. Being a member here pays off, especially since a second Ned location is in the works (and DC is not far away either).

The decor

From the vintage elevator entrances to the marble floor of the lobby, this is no average hotel. Guests sink into leather sofas while they await friends to join them in the bar, perhaps a special treat for locals who have always wondered more about The Ned NoMad.

Mahogany woods and Art Deco accents fill the public spaces, which are divided into numerous smaller rooms adding curiosity for arrivals to discover hey is just around the dim corner or behind the thickly tasseled curtain.

If you’re an art aficionado, you’ve come to the right place. The hotel boasts almost 300 individual, museum-quality pieces in its collection from names like Mickalene Thomas, Laurie Simmons, Hank Willis Thomas and Rachel Jones. A particular focus was given to female artists, a cue the hotel took from its sublime property in London. Many are bespoke for the hotel and include work from emerging talent who can showcase their work in front of the discerning Ned clientele.

Most Covetable Dress Watches for Men To Know About

The quintessential dress watch represents the perfect balance of elegance, restraint, and craftsmanship. The ideal dress timepiece is typically thin enough to slip discreetly beneath a shirt cuff, modest in diameter (generally between 36-40mm), and showcases clean, uncluttered design with minimal complications.

These watches prioritize refined aesthetics over technical innovation, though many marry both brilliantly.

In this curated selection, we explore the finest dress watches available today – timepieces that combine heritage, exceptional finishing, and timeless design. From established Swiss maisons to Japanese craftsmen and German engineering marvels, these watches represent the pinnacle of horological elegance suitable for life’s most important occasions.

This radical minimalism creates a uniquely modern take on the dress watch concept while adhering to traditional proportions. Behind this simplicity lies exceptional craftsmanship, with in-house movements featuring the innovative Moser interchangeable escapement.

The Essence of Elegance: Choosing The Perfect Dress Watch

The finest dress watches share certain fundamental qualities despite their varying designs. Ideal proportions typically mean diameters between 36-40mm (though rectangular watches follow different rules) and thicknesses under 10-11mm to ensure they slide easily beneath a shirt cuff.

Materials tend toward precious metals: gold, platinum, or high-grade stainless steel. Leather straps complete the formal aesthetic.

Beyond these practical considerations, the true measure of great dress watches for men lies in their restraint. Even complicated examples maintain visual harmony and balance.

When selecting your own dress watch, consider not just the occasions where you’ll wear it, but how it reflects your personal aesthetic. The watch you choose for life’s significant moments should speak to your own appreciation for craftsmanship and design. Whether your budget accommodates a Grand Seiko or a Patek Philippe, the perfect dress watch is one that brings you lasting satisfaction with its timeless elegance.

Sharing is caring!

Fashion’s AI Early Adopters – University of Fashion Blog

Lessons in 3D and AI design at University of Fashion (Image credit: University of Fashion)

In an industry where fashion trends can come and go at warp speed, you’d expect our industry to embrace 3D & AI with open arms. Not so fast.

Over the past 50 years, I have witnessed initial resistance to using CAD tools for drawing and PDS for pattern making. But today the industry can’t imagine doing without programs like Photoshop & Illustrator along with digital pattern drafting and grading tools.

With the launch of our 3D and AI for fashion design lessons at University of Fashion, we have received emails that challenge the use of these tools as “real designing.” However, I’m here to tell you that these are just tools and, they are here to stay. While some people see AI as a threat, and that it could replace certain jobs, the reality is that it’s a tool used to enhance human work.

McKinsey analysts predict Generative AI could boost fashion industry profits by $150 billion to $275 billion by 2030 and in their recent survey claim that “73% of global fashion executives consider generative AI to be an important strategic priority”.

Therefore, embracing AI for tasks like designing, merchandising, production, marketing, promotion and sales is the way to go. In this blog post I will explore how some fashion brands have already incorporated AI into their design process and are even using it to create legacy archives.

In 2023, the Spanish fashion brand Desigual launched its first Online Only On Demand collection. The garments and denim bags were produced once the customer bought them online, with an estimated manufacturing time of 90 days.

This innovation allowed the brand to make better forecasts for raw material needs and logistics. According to Desigual, the key to success in this process has been learning to manage the technology to enhance creativity. This strategy not only improves efficiency but also offers a more personalized and sustainable fashion experience for consumers.

Luxury Gifts for Men That Scream Class & Exclusivity

March 22, 2025

Luxury gifting is considered an art. All you need to be able to do is treat the gifting with the utmost thoughtfulness and attention to detail. One should know their recipient’s taste and lifestyle. Finding a suitable gift for the distinguished man in your life is very difficult. Luxury gifts do not solely comprise material possessions, but they are the goods that stand for their exclusivity, craftsmanship, and timeless allure. An exquisite luxury item, sorts the feeling of appreciation and admiration for it and makes the recipient feel treasured.

Luxury gifting could offer no shortage of exquisite choices, finely made watches or leather goods, perfumery, and luxury travel pieces. It is all about grandeur and making a mark. Match whatever you choose with his personality and lifestyle, a classic piece that he would love forever, or a treat one that would become a cherished memory. To ensure you ease your quest, we have formulated a list of brilliant luxury accessories gifts that are assured to make a lasting impression.

1. Designer Watches

Designer Watches

A luxury, as a timepiece, is more than just an accessory, it speaks a statement. A good timepiece does not just elevate a man’s style, it says a lot about his character and accomplishments. Famous brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet make masterpieces that serve to be both functional and collectible. These watches have been well built, with perfect movements alongside designs that have a timeless aspect, capable of being passed down as heirlooms for generations.

A classic dress watch, a rugged dive watch, or a sophisticated chronograph, investing in a high-end wristwatch will always be a smart investment. You can go for the more personalized option of custom engravings or custom designs wherein the gift stands out with exclusivity. A luxury watch is not just a mechanism to tell time, it is a statement of success, elegance, and sophistication.

2. Bespoke Leather Goods

luxury gifts for men

Indeed, leather goods present an irresistible charm and utility in the world of luxury gift choices. A well-shaped wallet, office briefcase, and luggage are paired with high-end leather gadgets like accessories. Some brands offer elegant pieces as limited-edition products. Bottega Veneta, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton produce exquisite items made of the finest materials, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal. A leather wallet or cardholder with customized embossing will give it a personal and thoughtful touch.

For professionals who appreciate both style and function, a premium briefcase or business bag would be a perfect choice. For a voyager, a monogrammed leather duffle bag or a luggage set makes for an incredible gift blending practicality with sophistication. Custom-made leather pieces stay in style, aging with grace and being an eternal investment. An exquisitely crafted leather accessory not only amps up the daily essentials but also adds an air of refinement and exclusivity truly worthy of any unforgettable gift.

3. High-End Fragrances

High-End Fragrances

The perfumes make an excellent gift because a signature smell rests at the core of a man’s personality. Provided that they come from perfume houses of renown names, such as Creed, Tom Ford, and Clive Christian, for the finest scents that emanate elegance and individuality. Unlike the colognes at the mall, luxury perfumes have rare and more expensive components, designed to guarantee long-lasting fragrance with a covert aura. Rich woody compositions and fresh citrus bouquets help tell this unique story with each fragrance.

Many luxury brands also offer bespoke perfumery services to help you design a unique scent just for him. Limited is exclusive with the words “Eau de Toilette”. Alongside is a really great-looking box. Gifting high-end fragrances is no longer merely gifting fragrances; it is a sensorial gift of chicness that begets confidence and charm and gets well remembered wherever he goes.

4. Tailored Suits & Apparel

luxury gifts for men

The charm that a perfectly tailored suit exudes is unmatched. But then again, a sharp suit caters not only for confidence but an untold level of individual style and attention to detail. Bespoke suits cut to perfection and made of premium fabrics are crafted by luxurious brands such as Brioni, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Tom Ford. A great tailored suit means a great investment, a taste which the man will cherish as he puts on a timeless suit for the very first formal reception, business meeting, or a glamorous evening out.

Other posh-style clothing could also include chic menswear, including tailored suits, cashmere sweaters, and designer knitwear from luxury brands such as Balenciaga, Gucci, or Loro Piana. Certain brands provide bespoke tailoring services, allowing customers to request fabrics and linings with embroidery. Having one’s suit made to measure is a luxurious treat in itself. Whether a bespoke suit or a cashmere sweater, tailored apparel will prove one’s style.

5. Luxury Tech Gadgets

Luxury Tech Gadgets

For the technologically adept, the best gadgets make for an ideal, trendy gift. While luxury technology caters to the performance-conscious, such gadgets combine great technology with a spectacular look. From high-fidelity wireless headphones by Bang & Olufsen to cutting-edge smartwatches from Tag Heuer and Hublot, premium tech accessories instantly elevate the everyday experience. Stylish designer mechanical keyboards, ultra-thin laptops, and high-end gaming consoles appeal to persons who enjoy great performance technology delicately interlaced with style. On the other hand, limited-edition gadgets, including gold-coated high-end smartphones and luxury smart-home devices, are unique gifts.

For the music lover, an expensive high-fidelity home audio system can transform their living room into a concert hall, whereas a limited-release record player can reintroduce the magic of vinyl into a small apartment. Other great options include a luxurious drone with advanced photography features or perhaps a high-tech espresso machine for coffee lovers. From gifts for the workaholic to the traveler or gifts for the entertainment junkie, luxury technology gifts lend an elegant touch with cutting-edge innovations to everyday life and are truly great gifts for people who appreciate modern excellence.

6. Luxury Fashion Accessories

luxury gifts for men

In terms of couture, luxury fashion accessories elevate a man’s look and style from ordinary to extraordinary. The Hermès and their iconic designer belts, followed by chic sunglasses by Cartier or Tom Ford, can grace any outfit and offer the wearer a refined look. Gucci, Burberry, and Prada provide scarves, ties, and cufflinks that are known as the classic symbols of elegance.

The practicality of a luxury belt cannot be overstated as it makes any outfit noticeable with a unique class. Cashmere-lined leather gloves or a silk pocket square brings elegance to formalwear. A designer wallet or a pair of high-end sneakers, comfortable but chic, offers the perfect gift. The wrist cuff, made from rare materials, or a limited-edition designer hat can add an exclusive finesse to modern outfit styles. Fashion accessories are the low-key yet impactful way of highlighting the chicest style, making this an ideal gift idea for any occasion when it comes to luxury gifting.

7. Premium Travel Essentials

Premium Travel Essentials

High-end travel essentials enhance both style and convenience for travel enthusiasts. Luxury luggage from Rimowa, TUMI, or Globe-Trotter guarantees that every journey begins with sophistication. Monogrammed passport covers, designer travel kits, and high-tech noise-canceling headphones make travel more enjoyable and stylish. A luxurious cashmere travel blanket or high-end leather weekend bag adds to the comfort and elegance of any trip. A travel organizer or designer garment bag affirms his pursuit of maximized efficiency and accomplishes the total placement of his essentials.

The final extravagance of a gift could be lounge access to first-class airlines or an organized gift of luxury travel, i.e., a bespoke vacation at an exclusive resort. For every man who travels on business or leisure, these essential trinkets will not only beautify the travel process but reflect on his unique taste as well. Travel embodies the essence of contemporary luxury, and gloriously furnishing its procedural fluidity with practical and pleasant means is perhaps a sweet and striking gesture.

8. Bespoke Jewelry & Cufflinks

luxury gifts for men

1. Cartier Santos

Cartier Santos

The Santos, launched in 1904, is arguably one of the world’s first wristwatches. Designed for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, it bears a square case and exposed screws, a horological classic. Being from an aviation legacy and given a modern twist, the Santos is still a fashionable choice by those who celebrate excellence from bold design. Available in all manner of metals, sizes, and options, it straddles the fine line between sporty and dressy.

2. Cartier Tank Louis Cartier

best cartier watches of all time

Inspired by the military tanks developed during World War I, the Tank Louis Cartier is said to be a 1922 extension of the original Tank. With a rectangular case and royal blue cabochon crown, Roman numerals adorn this piece and display Cartier’s signature elegance. Cultural celebrities such as Andy Warhol and Princess Diana further cemented the prestige of the Tank Louis Cartier as an undying classic. Proceeding with the luxury of gold and platinum, the luxurious feel is added with a flat profile and sleek design. Whether fitted alongside a leather strap or bracelet, the Tank Louis Cartier still signifies luxury itself.

3. Cartier Ballon Bleu

Cartier Ballon Bleu

With its smooth, rounded case and distinctive crown integrated within the case design, the Ballon Bleu was launched in 2007. The crown, which is a blue cabochon sapphire, is uniquely featured as it is partially enclosed in a curved crown guard. Unique guilloché dial, Roman numerals, and sword-shaped hands unmistakably announce it as a Cartier. It’s available in different sizes and materials, such as steel, gold, and diamonds, and is adored by both men and women alike. A modern icon for Cartier, the Ballon Bleu is often pared down to comfortable wear and timeless elegance, often seen on celebrities or regal personalities.

4. Cartier Pasha de Cartier

best cartier watches of all time

Originally created in the 1930s and resurrected in 1980, the Pasha de Cartier is among the boldest and most characterized watches made by the brand. The watch contains Arabic numerals rather than Roman numerals and has a distinctive screw-down crown cover affixed by a little chain. Known as one of the sportier Cartier pieces originally made water-resistant, the round case has a big dial and exquisite detailing that flows seamlessly from experience into luxury. Now, it’s updated with interchangeable straps for day/night looks and added versatility.

5. Cartier Drive de Cartier

Cartier Drive de Cartier

Sleek and curved in case, because of this cushion-like setting, the Drive de Cartier bears testimony to modern and classic watchmaking-centric influences of vintage automobiles. Debuted in 2016, it is meant to captivate modern gentlemen who admire the art of classic watchmaking but with a twist. With guilloché dials, sword-shaped hands, and just the right dimension, this is beautiful and very versatile. It can be the perfect option for any man on the lookout for a dress watch with a bit of panache.

6. Cartier Tank Française

best cartier watches of all time

The Tank Française is a sportier and more modern interpretation of the classic Tank collection. It debuted in 1996 with an integrated metal bracelet. The case flows seamlessly with the bracelet for a bold and refined aesthetic. Unlike the regular Tank that would often come on a leather strap, the Française is meant to be worn as a metal bracelet watch, thus making it quite appealing among professionals. Ranging from plain steel to gold and in the case of diamond-setting, it incorporates the efforts of daily wear along with timeless luxury, which has established it as an icon of Cartier.

7. Cartier Ronde Solo

Cartier Ronde Solo

The Ronde Solo is among Cartier’s most understated and elegant timepieces. A classic round case is not something you see too often in Cartier timepieces. The appearance, inspired by early twentieth-century pocket watches, features Roman numerals, blued steel hands, and a rail-track minute scale for a classy and traditional face. Unlike other more flamboyant designs from Cartier, Ronde Solo is more sober in its appeal while still being ostentatious and perfect for everyday wear. Available in steel, gold, quartz, and automatic movement, it is a great entry-level Cartier for a watch lover who appreciates classical watch-making.

8. Cartier Tank Américaine

best cartier watches of all time

The Tank Américaine is a longer and more curved version of the classic Tank made in 1989. It keeps the rectangular case but adopts a sleeker, more ergonomic fit on the wrist. Original Roman numerals, a blue sapphire crown, and beautiful proportions, all speak of its elegant dress watch nature. These are often available in gold, platinum, and diamond-set variations, pleasing collectors who admire their refined presence. Its curved case back offers good comfort and is perfectly suited to both formal and casual watches.

9. Cartier Rotonde de Cartier

Cartier Rotonde de Cartier

A veritable magnum opus of high horology, the Rotonde de Cartier collection boasts some of Cartier’s most complex watchmaking feats. It’s a round-case watch, it holds impressive complications like tourbillons, perpetual calendars, moon phases, and mysterious movements. The dial frequently sets off Cartier’s signature guilloché patterns, sword-shaped hands, and Roman numerals, keeping the brand’s DNA alive. In either a simple dress watch form or a haute horology variant, the Rotonde proves Cartier’s technical savoir-faire. It speaks to serious collectors who seek aesthetics and mechanical ingenuity.

10. Cartier Clé de Cartier

best cartier watches of all time

Released in 2015, the Clé de Cartier stands out with its sinuous lines and ergonomic design, as a modern interpretation of Cartier’s ultimate classics. Its winding key-shaped crown makes it easy to handle and adjust. It is slightly rounded for a very comfortable fit on the wrist. Minimalism reflects a contemporary yet timeless Clé, with its blue sapphire crown-venerated by Cartier and its automatic caliber. Very well suited for those in search of an elegant and unique timepiece blending tradition with modernity.

11. Cartier Panthère de Cartier

Cartier Panthère de Cartier

The first big celebrity watch after it launched in the 1980s, the Panthère de Cartier fuses timekeeping and jewelry into one milestone timepiece. With sleek square cases and super-flexible bracelets, they come as elegant accessories rather than simply timepieces. The Panthère consists of gold, steel, and diamond-set versions of this, establishing it as highly popular with women who favor luxurious jewelry watches. With celebrities like Madonna and Princess Diana wearing it, the Panthère remains attuned to the luxury icon. Cartier reintroduced the Panthère in 2017, asserting its timelessness.

12. Cartier Tank Cintrée

best cartier watches of all time

The Tank Cintrée ushered in 1921 and became one of the most elegant representations of the Tank. With its long, curved case, the Cintrée hugs the wrist in a lovely manner and becomes very comfortable for the wearer. Its slim and minimalist design enhances it into a dress watch. While it is available mostly in gold or platinum, and in either manual or automatic movements, the Cintrée appeals to watch collectors for its vintage appeal. Due to its limited runs and unique look, it remains one of the most coveted Tank models, attracting the true connoisseur of timepieces.

13. Cartier Baignoire

Baignoire

Baignoire literally means “bathtub,” and was first made in 1912. It derives its name due to the elongated oval shape. Geared mostly towards women, it exudes grace and sophistication. With its curved case, Roman numerals, and minimalist dial, the Baignoire is a stunning statement piece. Several variations of the Baignoire have been introduced by Cartier, including diamond-set versions and more daring bracelet designs, making it a favorite among those who appreciate subtle femininity. Together with its delicate case and timeless design, this particular product makes the Baignoire one of Cartier’s most beloved women’s watches.

14. Cartier Crash

best cartier watches of all time

Introduced in 1967, the Cartier Crash is possibly among the avant-garde watches ever peppered into existence. The asymmetrical case took inspiration from a warped Cartier wristwatch that was on the other side of a car wreck, offering an artistic touch and surreal presentation. No other watch can match its charm as it is known as a collector’s dream, produced in very small quantities. Crafted in gold or platinum, often diamond-set, the Crash just echoes Cartier’s never-cautious design sensibilities. In the vintage market, it is extremely coveted and truly iconic in terms of anti-conventional luxury.

15. Cartier Tonneau

Cartier Tonneau

Launched in 1906, the Cartier Tonneau is a departure from generic round and square watches. Its streamlined barrel-shaped case combines vintage with modern design, allowing it to feature sleek curves and a long illusion. Made from various metals, including gold and platinum, the Tonneau is popular in dual-time versions for the traveler. A thin and well-finished accessory, the Tonneau appeals especially to collectors who admire early 20th-century watchmaking design aesthetics and Cartier’s legacy of elegant form.

16. Cartier Santos-Dumont

best cartier watches of all time

The Santos-Dumont, by contrast, is a more elegant, dressier take on the Santos, drawing ever-closer proportions while providing the slender benefits of a formal-a-little-slimmer-watch. This watch, unlike the Santos, which is inherently fitted with automatic movements, is available both in manual-wind and quartz versions, making it much slimmer. In gold, steel, and two-tone versions, it is a fan favorite among those who would rather show off vintage-inspired designs blended with slightly modern trims. The Santos-Dumont is an undying homage to Cartier’s first aviation history.

17. Cartier Tank Must

Cartier Tank Must

This collection is a modern reissue of the 1970s Tank Must de Cartier, which is reminiscent of its fans because of its colorful dials and minimalist aesthetics, which were the hallmarks of the Must collection. Thus, its deep blue, green, and burgundy lacquer dials define transfigured tank experiences. With quartz and price-friendly prices, Tank Must offers a great way for enthusiasts to initiate their Cartier experience for minimal concern. It’s an elegant and artistic timepiece exemplifying Cartier’s history of lighthearted luxury.

18. Cartier Tortue

best cartier watches of all time

The Cartier Tortue, launched in 1912, is a watch with an unusual tonneau-shaped (turtle-shaped) case. Its curved lines and elongated lugs impart an element of superiority and grace. The watch’s many complications, including chronographs, perpetual calendars, and minute repeaters, make it a darling among horology connoisseurs. Available in gold and platinum, the Tortue is a signature statement piece that marries Cartier’s heritage and craftsmanship to eternal aesthetics.

19. Cartier Maillon de Cartier

Cartier Maillon de Cartier

The Maillon de Cartier is not a wristwatch, but a jewel! Stating so, this watch was introduced in 2020 with a twisted bracelet-link design for what one recognizes as quite a bold yet elegant sculptural effect. In contrast to Cartier’s other traditionally designed timepieces, the Maillon’s bracelet flows seamlessly into the case as a whole and is artistically inclined. Created in versions of gold, white gold, and diamonds, this is a great piece that is meant for one who desires to integrate high-fashion luxury into their wardrobe. With a small and simple dial, the focus stays on the geometric and fluid bracelet form, allowing it to be an ultra-chic piece for any woman.

20. Cartier Hypnose

best cartier watches of all time

The Cartier Hypnose’s namesake collections symbolize the merge between haute horlogerie and jewelry design, vaunting an elliptical silhouette that seems hypnotically layered. Dual-layered but often diamond-studded, the frame makes the centerpiece look like it is in motion for an endless period, thus mesmerizing its viewer. Exclusively designed for women, it is available in rose gold, white gold, and fully paved diamond, making it a date Vincennes in romance. A delicate dial and plush feeling are a nice touch to Cartier’s grace, femininity, and technical precision since its inception.

21. Cartier Ballon Blanc

Cartier Ballon Blanc

As a more feminine equivalent of the Ballon Bleu, the Ballon Blanc has a delicate round case with a diamond-studded crown at 4 o’clock. Unlike its larger counterpart, the Ballon Blanc is suitable for finer wrists because of its smaller size (between 26mm and 30mm). The diamond replaces the traditional blue sapphire cabochon, which definitely adds glamour with a pop. Available in rose gold, white gold, and full pavé diamond versions, it is for those who love discreet luxury with a contemporary twist.

22. Cartier Rotonde Mysterious Hour

best cartier watches of all time

The Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour is a true high watchmaking marvel, featuring one of Cartier’s most coveted complications. The magic hands employ a floating connection to the movement, suggesting a complete lack of relation between the apparent floating hands and the movement, resulting from the mysterious movement technology, introduced first in the Cartier mystery clocks of 1912. Thanks to the transparent sapphire dial, time appears to be frozen, a masterful piece. Either in gold or platinum casing, the Mysterious Hour is a collector’s favorite and marries historical advancement to contemporary watchmaking finesse.

23. Cartier Prive Collection

Cartier Prive Collection

The Cartier Privé Collection is a series of timepieces that pay homage to some of the brand’s most iconic and historic watch designs, created in a limited production run. This privileged collection features reissues of the Tank Cintrée, Cloche de Cartier, and Asymétrique, all executed in modern materials and movements. The collection is targeted towards collectors and connoisseurs, able to maintain the vintage feel while incorporating the latest forays from Cartier into subversive technology. With their manual movement and use of precious metals and limited runs, they each represent a tribute to Cartier’s rarefied design legacy. Each issue becomes very coveted.

24. Cartier Libre Collection

best cartier watches of all time

The Cartier Libre Collection showcases a work of avant-garde boldness and creativity that not only watches with a new vision of design but goes beyond the limits of a normal collection. The limited-edition collection features unconventional case shapes and artistic patterns, as well as magnificent gemstones, taking the art of making a watch to a whole new level. Models like Tonneau Curvex, Baignoire Débordante, and Crash Radieuse combine traditional watchmaking with special high-jewelry finishes. The Libre is an embodiment of luxurious sophistication with extravagant use of diamonds, sapphires, and gold, just the collection to turn a collector into a true devotee.

25. Cartier Métiers d’Art

Cartier Métiers d'Art

The Cartier Métiers d’Art collection is an homage to the brand’s wondrous achievement in craftsmanship and artistry. The timepieces in this collection feature dials, and the handiwork of those accomplished in enamel painting, wood marquetry, and gem setting, to name just some of the rare techniques that make each piece a miniature masterpiece. The Métiers d’Art watches draw inspiration from nature, mythology, and certain established motifs at Cartier (the panther amongst them). Being produced in extremely limited quantities, these timepieces are made for art collectors and watch enthusiasts who appreciate the fusion of fine artistry with horology, making these among the rarest in Cartier’s lineup.

Cartier has been leading the world of luxury watchmaking – timepieces constructed through the union of age-old sophistication and novel artistry – since inception. From the iconic Tank and Santos through to the edgier Crash and high-jewelry Panthère, each Cartier timepiece carries with it sharp precision, art sophistication, and pedigree homing in on the combination of uniqueness, tradition, and selectiveness. Be it classic dress watches, blocks of stand pieces, or haute horology creations, Cartier holds a watch for any collector and connoisseur. These 25 pieces show just how Cartier remains as a name that denotes luxury, heritage, and novelty that can make each watch memorable for decades to come.

The Death of Subculture: How Cult Dressing Evolved into Mainstream Culture

The Death of Subculture: How Cult Dressing Evolved into Mainstream Culture

Joy in Freedom of Expression

Beyond Netflix documentaries and newspaper headlines, in the context of fashion, “cult dressing” refers to a sartorial trope associated with specific subcultures or underground movements, where clothing choices are often used as a form of rebellion, identity or self-expression that is distinct from mainstream fashion. These subcultures could include groups like punk, goth, grunge, skaters or alternative styles that rejected conventional fashion norms. Cult dressing is typically defined by its exclusivity and uniqueness, often showcasing a specific set of aesthetics — such as do-it-yourself (DIY) fashion, obscure designer pieces or unconventional ensembles that signal membership in a specific cultural or social group. This style is usually adopted by those who want to differentiate themselves from the mainstream, often as a form of resistance or individuality.

As fashion becomes more inclusive and accessible, consumers are now able to express their authentic selves without the barriers that once kept certain styles exclusive. This democratisation of fashion means that people from all walks of life can find joy in dressing uniquely, without feeling restricted by mainstream fashion’s norms. The key idea is that these styles were once rare, niche and inaccessible to the broader public, but as fashion becomes more democratised through social media and collaborations between high fashion and mass-market brands, these once “cult” styles are increasingly absorbed into the mainstream, losing some of their distinctiveness and rebellious power.

The Rise of Social Media and the Death of Subcultural Significance

@cynicalneoprincess If last night was anything to go by I guess I can expect a looot of Chappell Roan comparisons over the next few years. But I need everyone to know I was doing the whole white face drag look before I ever knew who she was 😭 . . . . . . . . . #fitcheck #altfashion #altmakeup #gothfashion #clubkid ♬ original sound – ICONIC AUDIO

Fashion has always been a vehicle for self-expression, a tool to communicate identity and beliefs. For years, cult dressing — the hallmark of underground movements, niche subcultures and rebellious countercultures — was a bastion of inclusivity by means of exclusivity, a space where personal style was defined by what was different from the mainstream, a subculture of individuals who found their own sense of belonging amongst outsiders. In 2025, the landscape has shifted dramatically. Social media platforms — particularly TikTok — have democratised fashion, enabling subcultures once confined to the fringes to move into the mainstream, where their distinct styles are appropriated, commodified and mass-marketed causing the lines between what is “underground” and what is commercial to blur. What was once deemed “alternative” is now easily accessible to anyone with a phone and fashion has become a more collective, rapidly changing experience.

To many, the unique essence of subcultures that once defined individuality has been commodified and marketed to the masses. As these styles trickle down to mass-market brands and their consumers, they eventually become mainstream trends losing the very essence of what made them special. What was once a symbol of authenticity — from punk’s safety pins and flannel shirts to the streetwear born from skate culture — becomes diluted when packaged for profit. This results in the erosion of the authenticity these movements once held, leading to a sense of disillusionment in the joy of dressing and the expression of being “uniquely you”. The “proliferation” of these once-unique styles forces us — as fashion consumers — to confront the dichotomy: can adopting elements of a subculture still allow space for true individuality? If not, does this disillusionment affect the very idea of what it means to be “uniquely you”?

The Reconfiguration of Fashion Culture

The emergence of TikTok as a global cultural force has transformed the way many consume fashion. With TikTok’s algorithm-driven discovery tools, fashion trends can explode and evolve in a matter of hours. No longer do individuals need to belong to a specific subculture to gain visibility and the “cult” aspect of “cult dressing” is now diluted. In the age of TikTok, niche trends such as normcore, Y2K aesthetics or even specific clothing brands associated with subcultures are consumed and transformed by millions. While this level of visibility is empowering, it also raises the question of whether subcultures can retain their authenticity once they become commercially viable.

Normcore — which initially stood out for its embrace of simplicity as a form of non-conformity — quickly evolved into a mainstream trend. What started as a rejection of ostentation became mass-marketed and adopted by major retailers, making it accessible while maintaining its roots in minimalism. This shift highlights how subcultures — even those rooted in resistance to trends — can find themselves co-opted by the very industries they once challenged.

Similarly, Cottagecore — a style born from a romanticised, rural lifestyle that rejects modernity — draws inspiration from vintage, rural aesthetics with a countercultural edge. Originally a niche, it has seen a surge in popularity, driven in part by platforms like TikTok and Etsy, and compounded to mainstream culture by the popularity of the “Trad Wife” lifestyle trend. This movement — once defined by its “cultish” quality — has grown to see collaborations between indie brands and mass-market retailers like Urban Outfitters, blurring the line between underground and mainstream appeal.

The Y2K aesthetic — rooted in nostalgia for the late 1990s and early 2000s — exemplifies how trends are revived with new intensity in the digital age. Defined by metallics, exposed underwear waistbands over baggy, low-rise jeans and bold logos, this trend has exploded across social media and into the fashion mainstream (re-energised by Diesel, who one could argue was a pioneer of the trend in the early 2000s, showcasing the cyclical nature of fashion as styles make their way back into the spotlight, often evolving yet remaining rooted in their origins), revealing the power of collective memory and viral influence in reshaping past styles for today’s audience.

Finally, streetwear — which once emerged from skate, hip-hop, and punk subcultures — has ascended from its underground roots to become a dominant force in global fashion. Brands like Supreme and Off-White, which were initially part of countercultural movements, now stand at the forefront of high fashion, demonstrating how styles born in rebellion can redefine what is considered mainstream. This shift underscores the fluid nature of fashion, where the lines between subcultures and commercial success continue to blur. There is also an element of nostalgia, cultural relevance and timing at play. Cottagecore, for example, aligns with a collective desire for simplicity and a return to nature amidst digital overwhelm. Similarly, the resurgence of Y2K aesthetics taps into nostalgia — marketing it as a form of self-expression, but often reducing it to a way to commodify memories.

Redefining Individuality in a Collective Fashion Culture

One of the most notable markers of this shift is the increased frequency of collaborations between avant-garde designers and mass-market brands. Labels like Uniqlo, H&M and even fast-fashion titan Zara have long partnered with high-end designers to make their collections available to the masses. Designers with cult followings such as Jil Sander, Comme des Garçons and Alexander Wang have contributed to lines that bring high fashion into affordable retail spaces. This merging of high and low fashion serves to further dissolve the boundaries that once defined the two. These partnerships make luxury design more accessible but also challenge the concept of fashion as an expression of exclusivity. When cutting-edge designs are available at one’s local Uniqlo, it becomes difficult to claim that these pieces — once markers of individuality — are truly unique anymore.

In a time where digital trends dictate what is “in” and fast fashion accelerates production and distribution, personal expression in fashion has become more about what the consumer can access than about being “uniquely you”. The digital age has also accelerated the speed at which these trends evolve, making it harder for any one style to remain “cult” for long. The individuals who originated the trend or belonged to these subcultures, lose the joy of being “uniquely you” and soon move on to the next trend. Subcultural fashion was once about constructing an identity through unique choices — clothes that represented a specific belief, group or idea. Today, that process has been shortened into digestible moments: a TikTok challenge, an influencer partnership or a viral meme. The notion of “individuality” is now framed within the context of a collective cultural moment. The challenge consumers face is how they intend to preserve individuality in a society where cultural trends feel increasingly orchestrated and how brands market this to consumers while still leveraging on market trends and maintaining profit margins.

Luxury Labels, Cult Followings & Designer Reshuffle

Another element of cult dressing in luxury fashion moves away from the underground rebellions and instead taps into an entirely different subculture — one built around an aspirational lifestyle defined by exclusivity. Designers like Jonathan Anderson and Demna tap into this niche by creating collections that attract a specific type of consumer — one who values individuality but also seeks to belong to an exclusive group. These collections embody a unique intersection of personal style and aspirational status.

Jonathan Anderson’s tenure at Loewe — marked by surreal and often bold designs — pushed the boundaries of what was traditionally accepted in high fashion and gave rise to a form of cult dressing that resonated with underground and avant-garde movements. Anderson’s use of unconventional shapes, vibrant colours and unexpected materials brought joy in freedom of expression, aligning with the themes of individuality and rebellion that cult fashion represents. Jonathan Anderson’s creative direction at Loewe exemplified another element of cult dressing — pushing the boundaries of what was considered “fashionable” and mainstream. His work brought seemingly “outlandish” aesthetics to the forefront, often blurring the lines between high fashion and art. Loewe’s bold collections — with their surreal designs, oversized silhouettes and unconventional treatment of materials — resonated with a niche, cult-like following that embraced the rebellious spirit of individuality and avant-garde fashion. As Anderson leaves Loewe in 2025, this departure signals the end of an era where cult aesthetics and non-conventional beauty were embraced by a luxury fashion house. His departure raises questions about the future of outlandish aesthetics in the mainstream, as high fashion increasingly aligns with digital virality and fast fashion trends.

Under Demna’s direction, Balenciaga cultivated a cult following, thanks to his subversive designs that often blurred the lines between high fashion and streetwear. His work resonated with a new generation seeking to challenge fashion’s traditional codes. The brand’s bold, boundary-pushing approach — coupled with its ability to offer both exclusivity (through high price points) and accessibility (through beloved staple pieces like the Triple S sneaker) — turned Balenciaga into a cultural phenomenon. Despite what some may consider a controversial tenure, Demna’s departure from Balenciaga marks the end of an era in which his unique vision transformed the brand into a symbol of both underground rebellion and aspirational luxury. His influence on Balenciaga’s evolution — from its sensationalist product releases to its cult-like appeal — was as divisive as it was marketing magic.

It is also interesting to note that Gucci — during the Alessandro Michele years — similarly honed in on its own legacy of cult status, with his gender-bending, eclectic, maximalist designs that redefined the Maison’s heritage, breaking down traditional notions of menswear resulting in collections that resonated deeply with countercultural movements. As Demna transitions to Gucci, it will be intriguing to see how he navigates and meets the demands of Gucci consumers.
