Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4
Activision have revealed the next instalment of the hugely popular Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This time, the game is heading to Korea and features a bearded Captain Price and the tag line “No line holds forever.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on 23rd October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and, somewhat surprisingly, Nintendo Switch 2. It will not be available on the legacy consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, which are also losing support for Warzone.
This is the next divergence from the original Modern Warfare storyline:
“War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fight to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control. Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 4 pushes the series into darker and more dangerous territory, where consequence and escalation bring long-running storylines to a powerful and emotional breaking point.”
The campaign will see you playing as Private Park, “a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad.” While on a routine patrol, North Korea – about the only country that publishers aren’t afraid to pick on these days – starts a full-blown invasion. Alongside this Captain Price will be tackling his own mission: “Forced into uneasy alliances and illicit operations, Price is pulled deeper into consequences he can no longer escape.”
The multiplayer is receiving an overhaul with a new “weapon-first technology stack” for improved aiming, handling, audio, visibility and more. It will be “the most authentic Modern Warfare gunplay yet,” say Activision. They continue, “The promise is simple: no bloom, no guesswork, and no doubt. Every shot tells the truth.”
Of course, the multiplayer will still feature Team Deathmatch and all the other popular arena modes, and there will be the latest year of Warzone battle royale as the free-to-play companion, but Modern Warfare 4 is having a go at Tarkov, Arc Raiders and Marathon with the new extraction mode, DMZ.
This will let you deploy solo or in a squad to a conflict zone, tasked with recovering military technology in the wake of the war. With changing weather, dynamic objectives and hostile forces you’ll have to get in, get the tech and get back out. A first look at DMZ will be shared on 7th June during Summer Game Fest.
Modern Warfare 4 is in development at Infinity Ward, who recently described their new project as being “the definitive Modern Warfare” game.
