Wynne Evans has been the topic of conversation in showbiz news over the past 24 hours, after it emerged that he had allegedly made an “unacceptable” and “inappropriate” comment to Strictly colleague Janette Manrara.
He has now stepped away from his typical TV gigs to focus on his well-being, leaving many wondering…
What will happen to Wynne’s star-studded career? Will he continue in his beloved role as the Go Compare man? Here is what we know so far…
Wynne Evans news: Wynne fights to save £1m Go Compare job
Last night, Wynne issued a statement on social media, stating he “agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out”.
Now, the broadcaster is facing pressure to shelve Wynne’s latest gig, his new travelogue titled Wynne & Joanna: All At Sea, alongside Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page.
Wynne has also stepped back from his BBC radio Wales show.
Reports claim that Wynne was recorded on video suggesting three-way sex with Strictly favourite Janette Manrara, using the term “spit roast”, whilst at a photocall to launch the Strictly tour.
Executives at Go Compare, the insurance comparison website which Wynne is best known for fronting as Gio Compario in its quirky TV commercials, are said to have held crisis meetings over Wynne’s future with the company, as reported by The Sun.
The radio star is said to make £200,000 a year for the famous adverts. If this is the case, Wynne has likely earned around £5M for the popular gig. However, this could all hang in the balance.
A source told the publication: “His deal with them hangs by a thread. Wynne is so popular with viewers, so it will be a very tough call, but the sense is it is hard to keep him on.”
ED! has contacted representatives at Go Compare for comment.
