VGB TURNS 20 YEARS OLD TODAY! WOW! As Albert Einstein said in one of my favorite games Command & Conquer: Red Alert “Time will tell. Sooner or later, time will tell…” And time sure flies when you’re having fun! Time to once more blow out a birthday candle to make a wish for many more years to come! 😀
It really was a lifetime ago when I started working on VGB back in October of 2005 with the goal of helping gamers enjoy gaming more with news, reviews and guides. Only to launch it a month later, one day before the Xbox 360 console launched. And times, they are a changing… While five years back Microsoft’s Xbox Series X / S and Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles launched the 9th generation of video game consoles, this Summer of 2025 we got Nintendo’s Switch 2 console-handheld hybrid and this month an announcement for Valve’s first PC-console hybrid Steam Machine coming in 2026! What a time to be a gamer. ^_^
Thank you all so much for visiting VGB over the years. Almost HALF A BILLION of you have visited us over 20 years! An insane number! 😮 Our website server still burns through 5 TerraBytes of data each month! Gamers are the best global community there is. As always, I feel that’s because we all have a shared memories of our favorite video games that makes us recognize how similar we are despite our differences.
Special thanks to my folks, my beautiful family and loyal friends for always supporting me. What started as a dream to blog about video games as a hobby turned into a full-on career, thanks to my ad agency Playwire for helping to make my wildest dreams come true to own a house, car, and semi-retire at 35, crazy stuff in a world where games journalism is the worst paying profession. It’s why I still love updating the website every week. I took the blue ocean approach Nintendo is famous for (read Reggie & Iwata’s books for inspirational quotes) and working 112 hour weeks for over 10 years paid off (no shortcuts there; you just gotta work hard, luckily I don’t have to work that much these days). Thanks to Josh, Laura, Toni et al for covering all the latest gaming news like a pro for many years alongside me. And if you’ve ever contributed to the blog, or maybe we just chatted that one time, I’ll always appreciate the time we spent together. Gamers rule the world! 🙂
GAME ON! 😀
PS: From one of my Top 10 favorite games, here is Super Mario 64’s epic credits song.
