The Wild Ride of Cryptocurrencies: Top 7 Market Crashes in Crypto History – Metaverseplanet.net

The volatile world of cryptocurrencies offers investors a thrilling adventure, balancing the fine line between great risks and potential returns. In this article, we’ll explore the seven most significant market crashes in the history of the cryptocurrency world.

1.Bitcoin’s First Major Blow in June 2011

The Wild Ride of Cryptocurrencies: Top 7 Market Crashes in Crypto History

The year 2011 marked Bitcoin’s entry into the mainstream. Prices skyrocketed from $2 to $32, giving early investors a glimmer of hope. However, on June 19, Mt. Gox, the largest Bitcoin exchange at the time, announced that it had been hacked, resulting in the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of Bitcoin. The announcement sent shockwaves through the market, causing Bitcoin’s value to plummet below $1, leaving many investors devastated.

2.The Ponzi Scheme of August 2012

The Wild Ride of Cryptocurrencies: Top 7 Market Crashes in Crypto HistoryThe Wild Ride of Cryptocurrencies: Top 7 Market Crashes in Crypto History

In 2012, a cleverly crafted Ponzi scheme promised investors an unbelievable 7% weekly return. The scammer behind the scheme managed to steal approximately 700,000 Bitcoins before disappearing. This incident fueled another wave of panic in the crypto markets, shaking investors’ trust in the ecosystem.

3.Bitcoin’s Success Leads to a Crash in April 2013

By 2013, Bitcoin was gaining traction in the media and attracting a surge of new investors. The price soared to $260, but the surge in demand overwhelmed the Mt. Gox exchange, leading to its technical collapse. Hackers took advantage of the chaos, causing the exchange to shut down completely. As a result, Bitcoin prices plummeted to $50 almost instantly.

4.China’s Bitcoin Ban in December 2013

In December 2013, the Chinese government officially banned Bitcoin, triggering a massive sell-off. The market experienced a dramatic 50% price drop, causing widespread losses and reinforcing the notion of regulatory risks in cryptocurrencies.

5.The 2017 Bubble Burst

Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $20,000 in December 2017, driven by unprecedented interest from retail investors. However, this rapid climb proved unsustainable. On December 27, 2017, the bubble burst, leading to a steep decline. Bitcoin’s value tumbled from $20,000 to below $12,000, marking one of the sharpest corrections in its history.

6.The Pandemic Crash in March 2020

The onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 caused widespread panic in financial markets, and cryptocurrencies were no exception. Over the course of just two days, Bitcoin lost half its value, dropping to as low as $4,000.

7.The May 2021 Sell-Off

In May 2021, Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $64,000. However, several factors, including Elon Musk’s Tesla announcing it would no longer accept Bitcoin payments, China’s tightened regulations, and debates over Bitcoin mining’s environmental impact, led to a sharp correction. Bitcoin’s value plunged by over 50%, sending shockwaves across the market.

Lessons from Crypto’s History

These crashes highlight the high-risk nature of cryptocurrency investments. While the potential for returns is undeniable, investors must remain vigilant and prepared for significant volatility. As history has shown, the crypto market’s highs can be meteoric, but its lows can be just as dramatic.

Google has announced that it is equipping its artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, with the capability to operate directly within applications. This groundbreaking feature, currently in development, is poised to significantly enhance the functionality of digital assistants. As part of this update, the Android 16 developer preview introduces a new “app functions” API, enabling Gemini to perform specific tasks within apps. This feature is similar to the “app intentions” API unveiled by Apple in iOS 18, which allows smart assistants to operate more efficiently. With these updates, Google Gemini will soon be able to interact with apps on behalf of users.

Google and Apple’s Rivalry in Empowering Smart Assistants

Google Enhances Gemini with App Functionality in Android 16

According to Google’s developer site, application functions are defined as “the functionality that an application offers to the system.” These functions are designed to integrate seamlessly with various system features. For instance, Gemini will allow users to order food from a restaurant without even opening the app. Meanwhile, Apple is also testing a comparable feature for its assistant Siri in iOS 18, set for release in 2025. Siri’s update will introduce capabilities like ordering food or completing app-specific tasks on behalf of users, ensuring direct competition with Gemini.

Ernst & Young (EY), one of the Big Four accounting and consulting firms, has integrated emerging technology into its recruitment process. The company now allows candidates to practice interviews in the metaverse before participating in a real one.

Once applicants reach the interview stage, they are sent a link to access “eVe,” an artificial intelligence-powered avatar.

Built using OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model and content specific to EY, eVe provides candidates with a realistic preparation experience. It answers questions and offers insights about the company, helping candidates get ready for their live interviews.

eVe is available to candidates throughout the recruiting process and can also be used after the first interview.

EY introduced eVe last month. Candidates have been spending 15 to 20 minutes interacting with the avatar, using the opportunity to ask questions and receive follow-ups, said the global lead of EY’s Metaverse Lab in an interview with Business Insider.

The use of AI and the metaverse in education and training contexts is not new.

In May, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology implemented AI-generated teachers, including a virtual Albert Einstein, to enhance academic engagement.

Earlier, in April, Meta announced a virtual reality product for educational purposes, designed to provide teachers with tools for immersive learning.

Several institutions have also embraced metaverse-based learning environments. For instance, Northlands College, King Saud University, Florida A&M University, and the University of Salford have all launched virtual campuses to complement traditional education methods.

The adoption of the metaverse in education is gaining traction. According to Statista, the metaverse education market is projected to reach $2.5 billion in 2024, with an expected compound annual growth rate of 46.14% through 2030. By the end of the decade, it could reach a market volume of $24.7 billion.

Chill Guy Meme Coin Pumps Another 50% as Creator Fights Back – Decrypt

Chill Guy Meme Coin Pumps Another 50% as Creator Fights Back – Decrypt

From TikTok trends to crypto wallets, the “Chill Guy” meme has become an internet phenomenon, turning a laid-back cartoon dog into the face of a million-dollar market cap crypto.

Since its November 15 launch, the Chill Guy meme coin ($CHILLGUY) ballooned from a $10 million market cap to over $461 million, driven by the widespread popularity of the Chill Guy character—a relaxed anthropomorphic dog in a grey sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers.

The Solana-based meme coin has increased in value by 50% over the last 24 hours alone, trading just shy of $0.50, per CoinGecko data. The token’s rise reflects the ongoing craze around meme coins, which continue to defy market norms with their volatile yet lucrative returns.

CHILLGUY features an anthropomorphic brown dog sporting a grey sweater, rolled-up jeans, and red sneakers, captivating audiences with its laid-back demeanor and has become a cultural phenomenon.

Frequently paired with humorous captions on platforms like TikTok, the character embodies a carefree attitude, resonating particularly with Gen Z audiences.

However, the coin’s ascent has not been without controversy. Behind the meme coin’s success lies growing tension as the meme’s creator, Philip Banks, pushes back against what he calls unauthorized exploitation of his work.

“Just putting it out there, Chill Guy has been copyrighted. Like, legally. I’ll be issuing takedowns on for-profit related things over the next few days,” Banks tweeted last week.

While Banks clarified that casual use by brands or individuals isn’t his target—“I just ask for credit. Or Xboxes.”—he noted unauthorized merchandise and shitcoins are crossing the line.

Despite these concerns, early adopters of CHILLGUY have seen massive returns, with one trader turning a $1,000 investment into over $1 million within days.

It isn’t the first time meme coins have demonstrated their ability to convert internet phenomena into financial windfalls.

Recently, the Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) token—inspired by the viral story of Peanut, a pet squirrel euthanized by New York authorities—reached a $1 billion market cap within two weeks, while the First Convicted Raccoon (FRED) coin climbed 383% in a day.

I’m A Celebrity fans turn on Jane Moore after ‘overreaction’ in camp: ‘She needs to get a grip’

I’m A Celebrity fans turn on Jane Moore after ‘overreaction’ in camp: ‘She needs to get a grip’

Fans of I’m A Celebrity were left annoyed by Loose Woman Jane Moore tonight (Sunday November 24) after her ‘overreaction’ to being nominated to do the dishes.

Danny and Barry were made the new camp leaders after a public vote. But when they gave out the new jobs, Jane kicked off.

Jane annoyed on I’m A Celebrity

Danny Jones and Barry McGuigan are the new leaders of the camp. They will get to stay in the luxury lodge as well as designate chores to the other campmates.

They hopped off as soon as they found out to decide who would do what. The duo then revealed Jane and Tulisa were on washing up. Meanwhile, water duty was for Melvin and Dean, camp maintenance was Coleen and Maura; Richard and Oti are cooking and GK and Alan are on wood.

However Danny and Barry’s decision appeared to ruffle a few feathers, with Jane being less than impressed with her chore allocation of washing up. Jane had shouted at Danny before he left that she didn’t want to do cleaning as she hates it. Danny unfortunately thought she’d said the opposite.

Jane accused them of being “sexist and ageist” after Barry tried to explain they thought Jane wouldn’t be up for carrying heavy water up and down.

Danny and Barry were upset that they had offended her, but Jane insisted she had just been winding them up.

      Fans react

Despite her protests she was messing around, fans at home were not impressed by her. Especially after she asked them why the looked so “depleted” later on.

“Jane acting like a diva because she has to wash up,” said one, while another added: “Jane moaning because they put her on washing up. She needs to get a grip.”

A third wrote: “Jane took that completely out of context even when they asked her what job she would have liked she acted like a spoilt brat.”

“Can’t wait to watch Jane get voted out first for turning something so small into a big sexiest/ageist protest. It’s not the Jane show and you don’t pick your role. You couldn’t carry logs everyday like other younger people could.”

      Another added: “Jane’s overreacting. OMG.”

“You weren’t winding him up though was you Jane. Throwing words like sexist and ageist openly against him are quite strong words,” said one more.

“‘You look depleted’ YOU JUST WENT AFTER THEM FOR NOTHING JANE,” raged another.

A further commenter said: “Jane, they look sad and defeated because you started kicking off for be given a chore.”

What else happened on I’m A Celebrity tonight?

Elsewhere tonight Dean McCullough went off to do yet another trial, this time accompanied by Coleen Rooney.

As they took part in Absolute Carnage, they were told one of them would be locked inside the back of a ute with all of the stars. The stars were locked into place with different fastenings. Different tools to undo each one of them. The other celebrity’s job was to search for the different tools and pass them over once found.

Dean was the one searching for the tools so Coleen was positioned in the back of the ute. Here she was joined by cockroaches, crickets, giant mealworms and rats, whilst Dean once again came face to face again with his arch nemesis – fish guts.

Working as a team with 12 minutes to unlock all the stars, Coleen and Dean successfully won 9 stars for camp.

Coleen certainly impressed, with Dec commenting: “You were very calm, very quiet, you just got on with it.”

Coleen replied: “Yeah that is my way of coping, silence, the silent treatment.”

Meanwhile, Coleen also shared a story of how she once went to the White House and met Donal Trump. And Oti gave up her bed for Richard after hearing he hadn’t slept well and was worried about his back. What a hero!

I’m A Celebrity star’s secret past as Britain’s Got Talent contestant

Secret reality show past of I’m A Celebrity star Dean McCullough has resurfaced as he battles the bush and bugs Down Under.

Radio 1 DJ Dean is one of many famous faces taking part in this year’s series – which is on today (November 24). Along with the likes of Coleen Rooney and Tulisa, Dean is roughing it up in the Aussie jungle for the next few weeks.

But it turns out Dean previously appeared on another iconic TV show, years before his jungle stint.

I’m A Celeb star Dean McCullough on BGT

Back in 2013, Dean appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, as part of a dance troupe that competed on the ITV show.

The all-male group, The Glambassadors, put on a show with their routine; performing plenty of high kicks and lip-syncing to hits including Christina Aguilera’s Candyman and Alesha Dixon’s The Boy Does Nothing.

The performance went down a treat with the audience and judges, with David Walliams calling them “camper than Christmas”.

The Glambassadors made it all the way to the semi-final, but sadly missed out on a spot in the epic final. They were beaten by the eventual winners, the Hungarian shadow theatre group, Attraction.

        Dean McCullough ‘winging’ BGT performance

In an interview with OK! at the time, Dean opened up about his BGT appearance, revealing the group barely had time to rehearse.

“We formed because we all know each other through working in dance,” Dean said. He went on: “But a week before the auditions we lost two guys who got jobs in LA. So we found two other friends and we had one rehearsal before we got to the stage.

“I choreographed the dance so I was under pressure to get it sorted. We were winging it. But I think because of the pressure we were under it all came together. And now I have made friends for life. We have all been on this journey together, none of us have ever done anything like this before,” Dean added.

Watch Dean on I’m A Celebrity on Sunday (November 24) at 9:00pm on ITV1.

This Terrifying Horror Comic Echoes One Of Stephen King’s Greatest Haunted House Stories – SlashFilm

          0
This Terrifying Horror Comic Echoes One Of Stephen King’s Greatest Haunted House Stories – SlashFilm

One of the go-to scary stories is the haunted house tale; it’s as easy to tell one sitting around a campfire as it is to make a horror picture out of one. One recent haunted house story that may have slipped under your radar — but shouldn’t have — is the 2021 comic mini-series “The Me You Love In The Dark.”

Artist Ro Meadows has a showcase deadline approaching. So, she rents an old house in the midwest, thinking she needs some isolation to create. Her real estate agent warns her that her chosen house is rumored to be haunted, but Ro feels too drawn in to pass it up. As she still struggles to paint, she learns the house wasn’t empty even before she moved in.

“The Me You Love In The Dark” is the work of writer Skottie Young and artist Jorge Corona (who is currently killing it as artist on the best-selling “Transformers” comic). The comic is their second team-up, sandwiched between “Middlewest,” and their new Western, “Ain’t No Grave.” All three comics suggest they are a new comic-making force to look out for.

Speaking to AIPT, Young and Corona mentioned they first plotted the story shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic began. They felt like they’d been dealt an unwinnable hand, having conceived a comic about someone trapped in a house when their readers had just gone through their own horror story like that. Instead, it made their comic even more resonant. It helps that “The Me You Love In The Dark” captures the most essential part of the cabin fever experience: it has a slow onset.

The confined setting and Corona’s rhythmic paneling mean that “The Me You Love In The Dark” is a breezy read — the five issues flow easily as one. Each of the five covers follow a pattern; at the top of the page, the house is sitting on top of a black void. Beneath that, there’s a scene featuring the characters. In issue #1’s cover, it’s Ro with her back turned into the darkness as two shadowed hands stretch out towards her easel.

This is a book you can judge by its cover. The comic mixes true horror with a cartoony art style (take Ro’s impossibly huge, blue enough to be opaque glasses), but is no less scary despite how unrealistic it looks.

“The Me You Love In The Dark” invites comparisons to horror writer legend Stephen King. The collected edition’s back cover blurb mentions King (and Neil Gaiman, for there’s a lot of “Coraline” in this comic too) and someone in the book name-checks “The Shining.” Like that book, this one is also about a creative who tries to use isolation to get ahead on work. (Though Jack Torrance was a writer while Ro is a painter.) Their work-vacation goes awry when they meet something in the house that holds possessive ill-intent.

Despite the warranted “Shining” comparisons, the dynamic between Ro and the house ultimately becomes closer to another (almost as good) Stephen King book: “Misery,” which is about an author held hostage by a deluded fan.
