The New Monster Manual for Dungeons & Dragons Has Over 500 Stat Blocks and New Features – TGN – Tabletop Gaming News

The official Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel recently provided an in-depth look at the upcoming 2024 Monster Manual. The book, described as the final installment in the revised trio of core rulebooks, is set to feature significant updates and new content aimed at enhancing its role as both a gameplay resource and a tool for inspiration.

The designers shared that this new edition includes over 500 stat blocks, making it the largest Monster Manual in the history of Dungeons & Dragons. They explained that every monster has been updated in some way, with adjustments to mechanics, lore, and presentation. Additionally, the book introduces over 80 new creatures, expanding the range of options available to Dungeon Masters.

The artwork was highlighted as a major focus, with illustrations showcasing monsters actively engaging in their environments rather than appearing in isolated settings. The creative team emphasized that this approach aims to help Dungeon Masters visualize how creatures might interact within their campaigns, making it easier to integrate them into stories. Monsters like the rust monster, beholder, and ancient dragons were described as receiving fresh depictions that highlight their abilities and behaviors.

The team also pointed to mechanical improvements, particularly for legendary creatures and higher-level threats. Changes such as streamlined stat blocks and the incorporation of new abilities are intended to make encounters more dynamic while simplifying gameplay for Dungeon Masters. The inclusion of default loot tables and environmental details for each creature was mentioned as another way the book supports smoother preparation and play.

Classic monsters, including vampires and dragons, have been revisited to include new gameplay options. For example, the designers noted that ancient dragons now have spellcasting abilities directly integrated into their stat blocks, while vampires have gained additional tactical tools to reflect their elusive and dangerous nature. Lower-level creatures, such as goblins, have also been expanded with new variants to offer more diversity in encounters.

In terms of organization, the book has been designed to be more intuitive. Monsters are listed alphabetically by name rather than by type, a change aimed at making it easier for newer players to locate specific entries. Comprehensive indexes for sorting creatures by challenge rating, type, and environment remain, offering flexibility for those planning detailed adventures.

The narrative content has been reworked as well, with lore streamlined to provide Dungeon Masters with enough context to inspire creativity without overwhelming them with rigid backstories. The designers explained that many entries now include concise taglines summarizing a monster’s essence, serving as quick reference points to spark ideas.

Fans of The Traitors fume after contestant is accused of being done ‘so dirty’: ‘This is an outrage’

Fans of The Traitors UK were left saying the same thing after Faithful Kas was banished at the round table tonight (January 8).

Kas, a 33-year-old doctor from Cambridge, had been suspected to be a Traitor by many contestants since the beginning of the series. Over the past few episodes, viewers have argued that he has been unfairly singled out by the cast. During Wednesday night’s round table, he continued to be in the firing line.

When it came down to voting who to banish, Kas received the most votes, becoming the fourth person banished. When he revealed to the room that he was a Faithful, emotions hit.

The Traitors UK: Fans say Kas was done ‘so dirty’

Following his exit, viewers rushed to social media to express how they felt about tonight’s episode.

“Poor Kas has had a rotten experience on the show. Literal bullying they should feel very bad about that,” one user wrote on X.

“Kas deserved better,” another person shared.

“Wowww they did Kas so dirty,” a third remarked.

“Kas has been done soooooo dirty, the disrespect is crazy,” a fourth viewer said.

They did him so dirty. #TheTraitors,” a fourth person shared.

“This is an outrage. Justice for our boy Kas,” a fifth user wrote.

    Remaining Traitors attempt to recruit

So far, only one Traitor, Armani, has been caught. However, two Traitors, Minah and Linda, remain in the game.

At the end of the episode, host Claudia Winkleman informed the remaining Traitors that they have the choice to murder another Faithful or offer one of them the choice to join them as a Traitor.

With so many Faithfuls left in the game, they debated on picking Fozia, Freddie, or Anna.

Viewers won’t find out who they chose to seduce until tomorrow night’s episode (January 9).

Meghan Markle Mourns Beloved Rescue Dog: ‘My Sweet Guy’

Meghan Markle Mourns Beloved Rescue Dog: ‘My Sweet Guy’

Meghan Markle is mourning her beloved dog.

After the Duchess of Sussex rang in 2025 by returning to Instagram, she shared this heartbreaking news.

Guy was a beagle whom she rescued from a shelter.

Alongside moving footage of her beloved dog, Meghan shared a heartfelt tribute to him.

Meghan Markle mourns her dog, Guy

On Tuesday, January 7, Meghan Markle took to Instagram to share this heartbreaking news.

“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there,” she wrote on the new account.

“But they are. And that’s okay too,” Meghan affirmed. “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know. As ever, Meghan.”

As you can see, she shared even more than that while mourning Guy.

This beloved dog was part of Meghan’s life for many years. He was with her when she was filming Suits. He was there back when Harry proposed. And yes, Guy was around for the royal wedding.

The dearly departed dog also appears in the trailer for With Love, Meghan, her upcoming lifestyle and cooking series on Netflix.

“In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada,” Meghan Markle reflected.

“He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live,” she revealed. “I swooped him up … and fell in love.”

Meghan confessed to having named him, writing: “They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”

“If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him,” Meghan wrote to her longtime fans.

“He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom,” she listed. “He was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”

Naturally, words of sorrow and comfort came pouring in through the comments.

For some, this is only an excuse to hate her (like always)

However, not everyone was feeling entirely sympathetic. A particularly shady piece in The Daily Mail, one of the UK’s most notorious tabloids, included a jarring blend of empathy and condemnation.

“Noooooooo! Oh Meghan, my heart goes out to you. I did love you; I supported you,” the piece read at one point.

“But you made me angry with the revealing red red carpet dress, the wet look hair, the lack of elegance.” the piece spat. “Your new lost-grip-of-reality TV show has left me cold, as it brims with artifice and inauthenticity and controlling, never possible perfection.”

Just for the record, if you actively dislike someone because their hair looked “wet,” there is something wrong with you. Like, morally. The good news is that you can choose to become a better person! (It’s free!)

Despite her wet hair (whatever that means) and the audacity that she had to fall in love with Prince Harry, she’s just a person. A famous, beautiful woman who’s had a target on her for more than half a decade.

Our hearts go out to Meghan and her family at this time. They have Mamma Mia, another rescue beagle, and Pula, a rescue lab. Grief is never easy, but the mourning process is also a healing journey.

Stonemaier Games Announces Finspan, a New Spin on Wingspan – TGN – Tabletop Gaming News

Stonemaier Games, the publisher behind the popular board game Wingspan, has announced the upcoming release of Finspan, a new title that shifts the focus from birds to fish. The game is set to launch on 2025, and aims to bring a fresh take on tableau-building gameplay.

In Finspan, players act as marine researchers, collecting fish from different ocean depths, hatching eggs, and forming schools. The game introduces three zones—the Sunlight Zone, Twilight Zone, and Midnight Zone—that house a variety of fish. Instead of traditional resources like food tokens, players use cards from their hand as a form of currency, which can later be recycled.

Designed by David Gordon and Michael O’Connell, with contributions from Wingspan designer Elizabeth Hargrave, Finspan incorporates familiar mechanics while introducing new elements to differentiate it. Hargrave commented on her involvement, noting that while she was not the lead designer, she contributed feedback during development to ensure the game aligned with the style of Wingspan while offering a unique experience.

The artwork, created by Ana María Martínez, Catalina Martínez, and Mesa Schumacher, features 125 fish cards with detailed illustrations and educational facts. Like Wingspan, Finspan supports one to five players and includes a solo mode designed by Automa Factory. Gameplay focuses on building a collection of fish, hatching eggs, and completing objectives to score points.

The rulebook for Finspan has been made available online, offering players an early look at the game’s mechanics. With its release date approaching, Finspan aims to appeal to fans of Wingspan and players interested in exploring a marine-themed strategy game.

Coronation Street confirms Julie Carp return for Eileen exit storyline

Ten years after her exit from the cobbles, Katy Cavanagh will be returning to the soap as Julie Carp.

Julie will be involved in sister Eileen’s exit storyline in the late spring, with Sue Cleaver departing from her iconic role after 25 years.

It’s been teased that Eileen and Todd are thrilled to see Julie again. Although, her reason for returning to Weatherfield is being kept a secret for the time being.

Julie’s ex Brian Packham also hasn’t seen Julie in years. Her return will likely cause a reaction one way or another.

Viewers will know that after a short fling with Jesse Chadwick (who recently left for France with Gail), Julie formed a relationship with Brian and left the Street with him in 2015. They then split up and Brian returned back to Weatherfield without Julie. Will any old feelings resurface when the pair cross paths again this time around though?

Lotte Group Chooses Arbitrum Blockchain for its Metaverse “Caliverse” – Cryptoflies News

        3

Lotte Group, a South Korean conglomerate, announced at CES 2025 that it has selected the Arbitrum blockchain to power its metaverse platform, “Lotte Caliverse.”

Lotte Caliverse is a virtual world built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. The platform allows users to explore a digital city, shop with real-world delivery options, play games, and engage with content in a more immersive way — replicating the feeling of being physically present.

The platform will feature well-known brands such as Givenchy, MCM, 7-Eleven, and even the music festival “Tomorrowland.”

Steven Goldfeder, CEO of Arbitrum’s development team, emphasized that the blockchain will offer efficient and seamless performance for the metaverse, ensuring users have a smooth experience.

This collaboration highlights Lotte’s continued focus on its virtual projects. The company introduced a prototype of its metaverse at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. Soon after, it announced a partnership with KT Alpha, a subsidiary of Korea Telecom, one of South Korea’s leading telecom providers, to incorporate virtual reality (VR) content into Caliverse.

Despite its push into the metaverse, Lotte’s recent history with blockchain technology has been mixed. In June last year, the company shut down its NFT platform after two years, citing declining sales and challenges in the broader industry. This decision followed similar moves by companies like Starbucks and GameStop.

Maze Mice from the dev of Luck Be a Landlord blends maze-running, time-freezing and bullet heaven together

Maze Mice from the dev of Luck Be a Landlord blends maze-running, time-freezing and bullet heaven together

TrampolineTales developer of the popular Luck be a Landlord slot machine deck-builder just announced Maze Mice and it really sounds unique.

You’ve played maze-runners before, and no doubt a good few bullet heaven games that spawned from Vampire Survivors and games that stop time until you move right? Well, this combines all of them together. If you’re after something quite different, that allows you to go at your own pace thanks to the time-stopping, this one might be for you.

“Following Luck Be a Landlord, I hope players will rejoin me on this new adventure with Maze Mice,” said Dan DiIorio, lead developer and founder of TrampolineTales. “I wanted to make a new kind of roguelike bullet heaven that stayed both familiar and welcoming. The cat-and-mouse chase keeps things recognizable, and the time-stopping twist equalizes the playing field for all players!”

        More about it:

Navigate the labyrinthian nooks and crannies of a once-cozy attic as a tiny mouse while staying one paw ahead of ferocious felines. Luckily, in this attic, time only moves when you move! Stand still to stop time, giving the resilient rodent ample opportunity to sketch the safest route ahead. Hoard precious upgrades hidden around each winding twist and turn to stay alive.

Scramble toward safety and collect upgrade dots to gain experience and unlock powerful upgrades. Bundle up in a Tiny Sweater for extra health, turn on the Vacuum to attract nearby items (cheese, please!), and gobble up Popcorn to temporarily avoid damage. Deploy Flame Trails, Knitting Needles, Hairballs, and other pesky provisions to send cats screeching!

Stay nimble to maneuver through the attic’s tricky side entrances, plotting the perfect path to the nearest dots. Escape the clutching claws of different kinds of felines, including curious Chasers and ghostly Phasers. Survive the chaos with tiny whiskers intact, or get caught and take a trip to the Big Mouse House in the sky.

Unlock permanent upgrades and add an adorable array of animal characters to the roster, including mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs, each with their own starting upgrades. Dash through a retro, top-down pixelated world rife with charming details and sway to the sounds of a tail-swishing soundtrack from Vincent Colavita, composer of Luck be a Landlord.

Not particularly sold on the art style but like a lot of games I’ve played over the last few years, the gameplay might be enough to sucker me in for some hours.

Maze Mice will be available on Steam sometime in 2025. Languages supported include: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish – Spain, Danish, Portuguese – Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Spanish – Latin America, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese – Portugal, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Arabic.
