Rainbow Six Siege’s “Biggest Transformation” Yet Teased

Rainbow Six Siege’s “Biggest Transformation” Yet Teased

During the championship weekend of the Six Invitational, Ubisoft has announced that it will be revealing a new era of Rainbow Six Siege on March 13 at the Siege X Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. A new attacker operator named Rauora, who hails from New Zealand, will also join Rainbow Six Siege.

The teaser for the big upcoming Siege update describes it as the game’s “biggest transformation” yet. This will include both graphical and audio improvements, as well as “deepened tactical gameplay,” although no specifics were shared. Additionally, Ubisoft said there will be “new ways to play,” but again didn’t say if that would come in the form of new game modes or something else.

Rauora will be available to play at the start of the upcoming Year 10 Season 1 as part of the Operation Prep Phase battle pass, and will be unlockable with Renown or R6 credits after two weeks.

Rauora is equipped with the 417 designed marksman rifle or the M249 light machine gun as her primary weapon, and the GSH-18 9mm pistol or the new Reaper MK2 machine pistol as her secondary. The latter has a red dot sight and an extended magazine. Her special gadget is the Deployable Omnilink Mesh Launcher, or DOM. It’s a smart bulletproof barrier that can only be used in doorways and reaches all the way to the ground. As a smart cover, DOM can sense when ally drones are nearby and will let them through by lifting itself up.

DOM also has a trigger at the top that can be opened by any operator through shooting it. While both attackers and defenders can open and close the barrier, the attacking side has more benefits. Defenders will be locked out for a short time when the barrier is first deployed or has just closed, and only an attacker’s presence will open it again. It also opens up much faster when an attacker triggers it.

While Rauora’s barriers are bulletproof, they are still susceptible to explosions. They also cannot remove Castle’s reinforced barricades if it’s already out or used while Tubarão’s Zoto Canister is in effect. Jäger’s ADS gadget can also take out DOM before it gets a chance to even deploy.

Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015 and has been one of Ubisoft’s premiere live-service games since. It’s gotten a ton of support of the years, most recently full cross-play as well as stricter anti-cheat measures, including cheaters being instantly perma-banned.

Despite rumors of a sequel, Rainbow Six creator director Alexander Karpazis claimed that its a game that can “last forever,” which is good news for the nearly decade-old game. Separately, Ubisoft’s executives said that they are doubling down on open-world and live-service games going forward.

Bold and the Beautiful: Hope – Thomas Rewind in the Wind?

Bold and the Beautiful: Hope – Thomas Rewind in the Wind?

Bold and the Beautiful has Hope Logan needing a saving grace, like Thomas Forrester, as it seems she’s about to see life as she knows it hit a brick wall on the CBS soap.  Last week, Hope blew up as Carter Walton suggested they apologize to the Forresters and hand back the FC reins.

There is no way she will kowtow to Steffy Forrester ever again. So, if Carter makes the guilt-ridden move of giving it all back to Steffy, Ridge Forrester, and Eric Forrester, Hope Logan likely looks at this as a betrayal from Carter Walton and backs away.

Bold and the Beautiful: Hope Logan Soon Becomes a Ship Without a Port?

As of last week, Bold and the Beautiful dropped enough hints to suggest Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) and Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) aren’t long for this world as a couple. With Carter sniffing around, Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire), the writing is on the wall.

Bold and the Beautiful: Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) - Hope Logan (Annika Noelle)
      B&B | CBS

It looks like Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) finally sees her daughter’s destructive side. Everyone, including Brooke, seemed to choke on Hope’s speech about Carter taking Forrester Creations to new heights.

Brooke will never abandon her daughter on Bold and Beautiful. But, Hope will likely see her mother as part of this betrayal if Forresters rule again. Then she likely snubs Brooke for a little while. This would leave the Logan daughter like a ship without a port. There would be no one to turn to.

B&B: Thomas Forrester Enters the Stage?

Bold and the Beautiful got a ton of fan attention with the Hope Logan – Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) love affair. Plus, Hope was always there for Thomas, even when everyone else was against him.

While Matthew Atkinson’s photo has been eliminated from the opening credits, neither Atkinson nor the peeps who run B&B officially said he was done. But, if he plans on not coming back, which would upset fans, they could always recast him.

Thomas Forrester showing up in Hope Logan’s deepest hour of need would work for Bold and the Beautiful fans. But they would want Matthew Atkinson as Thomas Forrester.

So, what would Thomas coming to Hope’s rescue look like? After all, he is supposedly in a committed relationship with Paris Buckingham (Diamond White). But that could be fixed with a simple, mundane breakup story.

Bold and the Beautiful: Thomas & Hope Do Over?

If Bold and the Beautiful put Hope Logan and Thomas Forrester back together again, they could trade their previous places. It might work, as it did with Hope coming to Thomas’ rescue all those times.

Except this time it would be Thomas Forrester trying to redeem Hope to his parents and sister. In the past, it was Hope Logan trying to get her family to see the good in Thomas, as she did forever on Bold and Beautiful.

The tables could turn, now that Thomas has shown he is a changed man. Only now it would be Thomas trying to sell Hope as a changed woman.

But, fans would love to see Atkinson in that role of Hope Logan’s guy. Carter Walton looks like a man who is a hopeless romantic. Just the whiff of a heavenly scent turns his head. And today on Bold and the Beautiful, he has another hopeless romantic pursuing him.

Sure, at first Carter was part of a plan for Daphne, but hints suggest she’s really into him. So, until the right one comes along, Carter may continue to be in love with just being in love, no matter who it is, on the CBS soap.

Head back to Soap Dirt for the latest Bold and the Beautiful spoilers.

Deepseek R1 is one of the most promising tools driving this transformation. Whether you’re an AI enthusiast, a developer looking to integrate advanced AI into your applications, or a business exploring AI solutions, Deepseek R1 is a name you need to remember.

DeepSeek, a Chinese tech giant, has launched a language model that challenges the status quo. Imagine accessing AI capabilities comparable to OpenAI’s GPT-4 but at just 2% of the cost. Yes, you heard that right—Deepseek R1 operates at 1/50th the price of its competitors. But its speed, accuracy, and flexibility make it even more intriguing.

However, the journey to creating Deepseek R1 wasn’t straightforward. The AI landscape is filled with challenges, from data dependency to scalability issues. Yet DeepSeek not only tackled these challenges but turned them into opportunities for innovation. This guide explores the nuances of Deepseek R1, its features, and why it’s poised to revolutionize AI integration across industries.

      Challenges with Traditional Reasoning Models

The journey to developing robust AI models has always been challenging. Despite their advancements, traditional reasoning models still face several critical issues that hinder their full potential.

      1. Dependency on Supervised Data

Most advanced AI models, including those from OpenAI, rely heavily on supervised learning. This means they need vast amounts of high-quality annotated data to train effectively. But here’s the catch—curating such datasets is no walk in the park. It’s expensive, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. Every data point must be manually labeled, verified, and refined. This reliance creates a bottleneck, slowing down the development of new models and making AI research an expensive endeavor.

      2. Scalability Issues

Scaling AI models is another significant challenge. As models grow in complexity and size, they demand more computational power. Training large-scale models require immense hardware resources, often out of reach for smaller organizations and independent researchers. The cost of GPUs, storage, and energy consumption adds up quickly, making scalability a luxury only a few can afford.

      3. Generalization Limits

Even the most sophisticated AI models struggle with generalization. They perform exceptionally well on tasks they’ve been trained on but falter when faced with unfamiliar scenarios. This limitation restricts their usability in dynamic environments where tasks and inputs constantly change. Models that can’t be generalized effectively are less versatile and more prone to errors in real-world applications.

These challenges have long stifled innovation in AI, but DeepSeek saw them as opportunities to innovate.

      How Deepseek Overcomes AI Challenges

DeepSeek didn’t just aim to build another AI model; it aimed to redefine how AI models are trained, scaled, and deployed. Here’s how Deepseek R1 overcomes the traditional challenges associated with AI reasoning models.

      Door Kickers 2 Steam Review

I both like and hate Door Kickers 2. It’s a great strategy game… where I can’t beat the tutorial missions because it is hard as hell. You put a squad of men together and go raid compounds to kill terrorists and rescue hostages. It is pretty nifty and well put together. I can’t really fault it for that. What I can fault is the unbalanced difficulty. You see, the first Door Kickers was a bit more forgiving. I seem to remember you could make mistakes and not have to restart the entire mission, just redo the section over again. Here you don’t get that luxury. I think its best to show you a video of a raid that ended because I put a guy in the wrong place looking the wrong direction. Opps.

In the map above, there are two ways into the compound, the way I took, or the grated gate with ten dudes behind it on the other side. That way would require a flash bang and rushing in and praying. There’s two ways of play, active directing and planning. Planning is drawing paths and choose where to look and what to do at points. The problem with planning is when you have the dudes go through with it, your enemies could be anywhere. They’re not all that stupid. I find active directing a bit easier in Door Kickers 2 at points as you can change strategy on the fly.

There’s a lot here for you to enjoy, if you can get there.

Outside Gaming has an article that summarizes the difficulty of Door Kickers 2 as follows:

The game doesn’t pull punches. Mistakes are often punished harshly, but rarely do players feel the game is unfair. Failure usually comes down to a lapse in strategy, not random chance.

I’m not necessarily sure that’s true with Door Kickers 2. I’ve opened doors quietly and a dude is standing behind there. Sometimes, the dude isn’t there, why, who knows? But it is true mistakes are punished harshly, that I can agree on. In the end, Door Kickers 2 is pure tactical fun. Just remember that you can’t fail, or its back to the start. Good Luck! This gets a Your Mileage May Vary with an eight back-end score.

Overall: Door Kickers 2 is a great tactical game that is not for the faint of heart. Mistakes are punished, and punished harshly.

      Verdict: YMMV

      A Vlogger’s Venture into Darkness

After years of playing horror games, I have managed to set a few ground rules; things that I have learned along the way should I ever find myself in the same position as some of the victims of these games.

Number one is to never go towards any strange or creepy sound. You must never try to summon the dead or the antichrist either, mostly as that never goes well. Thirdly, never trust a mannequin.

Dreamless is a game that sees a number of these rules be broken, fully embracing the usual horror cliches along the way. Sometimes I like going down a familiar route in games, but in this short experience, it doesn’t quite give me a new scare.

      Dreamless Review 3
      Ticking the horror set-up!

So here comes the plot for this short, five-chapter game. In a small town – somewhere unspecified – is a horrific event that happens every 25 years. For one week in August, strangers mysteriously disappear, all thanks to something that is locally known as ‘death week’. It’s here where the folk of the town are told to stay indoors for that week, rarely venturing out. The thing is, no one knows what the mystery is; it could be something paranormal or perhaps a serial killer.

It’s here where John, a 17-year-old vlogger, comes to the fore, looking to investigate the mysteries. After a tip that week he heads to a strange house and begins his investigation…

      Dreamless’ Narrative and Gameplay

The story found in Dreamless is intriguing and I like the fact that it is told through the eyes of a 17-year-old protagonist. The story unravels well, revealing bits of itself slowly. And I quite like the self-narration from the main character; it is fine, but sometimes does feel a bit off-kilter and has a few too many quips. Overall the narrative doesn’t feel like it’s treading any new territory, but it does tell a story in a micro, well contained way.

The gameplay runs in a first-person perspective throughout. Over the five chapters, you will find yourself in a series of quite contained areas where you have to progress by doing a certain amount of things to progress. This might include picking up objects or actioning a sequence of events in the right order.

It’s in the first part of the game, as you wander around an empty house in the darkness, that you make the most of a video camera, utilising it as a source of light. However, Dreamless is a dark game, and this means it is tricky to see throughout, especially when you don’t have a camera and you have to use candles or a flashlight. In the end, I decided to go and turn the brightness settings to full.

      Rarely scares

      Navigating the Darkness

There is also that age-old problem of having the game translated over from PC to Xbox, and inaccuracies of the controls. I found at times the control system to be off slightly; at least in regards to how tight I would have liked things. But that said, battle through and the puzzle elements of the game are good ,with some nice things to do like hunting out a correct order to perform a demon summoning ritual or a ball puzzle game that is as hard as nails. Dreamless comes with a fair few surprising elements too, accompanied by others that feel extremely familiar, overused in the horror game genre.

Visually, apart from those darkness issues, Dreamless runs some decent environmental design. Even though I may chastise the use of mannequins, the developer does use them well here. But, there is nothing terrifying about how the monsters of Dreamless are revealed; this is not a game that will have you jumping in the middle of the night.

      A Chilling Atmosphere

Sound-wise, an equally decent job is done, with some scary effects from windows knocking in the wind to whispers in the darkness. The voice-over work is well delivered too, even though John sounds a lot older than the 17 years he is meant to be. On the whole, the soundtrack is good though and creates some chilling atmosphere to the game.

      Dreamless Review 2Dreamless Review 2
Will suit horror fans, but doesn’t go far enough.

A Short but Atmospheric Horror Experience with Familiar Tropes

Dreamless is a short experience, with each chapter taking around 30 minutes to complete. However, at no point does it do anything that allows it to stand out from the crowd. There is a scary doll, some mannequins, and strange dream sequences, but nothing that will ever scare.

Horror fans should have a good time with Dreamless, but it would have been great to see it take that extra step into the darkness.

Coinbase Targets USDT Stablecoin Rival Tether With an $86 Billion ‘Stretch Goal’ for USDC – Decrypt

Coinbase Targets USDT Stablecoin Rival Tether With an Billion ‘Stretch Goal’ for USDC – Decrypt

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said Thursday that the crypto heavyweight is taking off its gloves for a renewed fight in the stablecoin ring.

During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Armstrong said the firm will aim to challenge Tether’s position as the industry’s reigning stablecoin issuer. The ultimate goal is to make Circle’s USDC the world’s “number one dollar stablecoin.”

Armstrong characterized this new aim as a “stretch goal,” signaling it represents an ambitious yet potentially achievable feat, which will nonetheless push Coinbase outside its comfort zone.

As the second largest stablecoin, USDC’s market cap stands at $56 billion after hitting an all-time high last week. Still, that leaves a lot of ground for USDC to cover as it works to overtake Tether. As of this writing, USDT currently accounts for a hulking 60% of the stablecoin market at $142 billion market capitalization, per CoinGecko.

Because stablecoins are designed to maintain a 1:1 peg with another currency, in this case the U.S. dollar, the market capitalization tends to be a reliable indicator of issuance.

Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas contextualized Armstrong’s bold call on Thursday. “I think it’s important to note that we hope to achieve this over the next few years,” she said.

The high bar for Coinbase comes after its stronger-than-expected fourth quarter was marked by $1.3 billion in profits. Meanwhile, stablecoin legislation appears to be gaining momentum on Capitol Hill, after years of quibbling among lawmakers.’

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Senate Banking Committee Chairman, has already pledged that legislation covering stablecoins will be passed within the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s term.

That bill, dubbed the GENIUS Act, would create a pathway to legality for issuers of U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins. That would include sharing monthly audits on the health of the fiat reserves backing their products, according to a draft of the bill seen by Decrypt.

Since lawmakers may end up modifying the stablecoin bill before it can be passed through both chambers of Congress and signed into law by Trump, how sweeping stablecoin legislation could ultimately impact USDC, USDT, or any stablecoin remains unclear.

      Can legislation help?

Hours before Coinbase’s earnings, JP Morgan analysts posited that Tether may be forced to change the structure of the dollar-equivalent reserves backing USDT.

In its most recent attestation report, Tether said those reserves consist mostly of cash and cash equivalents and other short-term deposits, including assets like U.S. Treasuries and money market funds, which account for 82% of Tether’s reserves.

For years, Tether has sporadically and then more regularly published attestation reports about the reserves that back its stablecoin. But accountants and competitors alike have been quick to point out that none of those financial statements have been audited.

While audits seek to uncover risks and potential compliance issues by gathering data, attestations are typically used to authenticate how truthful data is.

But it is worth pointing out that, as of this writing, Circle also has never published an audited report on the reserves backing USDC. Like Tether, the company publishes attestations about the “highly liquid fiat reserves” backing USDC and EUROC, its Euro-backed equivalent.JP Morgan posited that Tether may have to sell a significant sum of “non-compliant” assets in its reserve, like Bitcoin and any remaining commercial paper, if it wants to comply with new U.S. rules.

A Tether spokesperson pushed back against JP Morgan’s suggestion, telling Decrypt that $20 billion in “other very liquid assets” had been overlooked by the Wall Street titan, along with “more than $1.2 billion in profits per quarter” from holding swathes of government debt.

Notably, Tether may also fall outside the stablecoin bill’s scope; the company recently relocated its business from the British Virgin Islands to El Salvador.

“If stablecoin regulation passes in the U.S., I do think it will disproportionately help USDC gain market share,” Bitwise Senior Investment Strategist Juan Leon told Decrypt. “But will that be enough to surpass USDT?”

USDC would have to become the predominately used stablecoin in developed markets for it to have a chance at surpassing USDT, Leon said. USDC is less likely to be able to displace USDT’s dominance in emerging markets, he added.

Former SEC Chair Gary Gensler once referred to stablecoins as “poker chips” used in decentralized finance, or DeFi, as a common way for traders to easily park funds and lock in gains. Remittances and payments represent real-world use cases, while the use of stablecoins in money laundering and sanctions evasion has also drawn controversy.

      ‘Accelerating’

On-chain activity involving stablecoins is largely concentrated on networks that support smart contracts, like Ethereum and Solana. But Armstrong said growing USDC’s footprint on the Ethereum scaling network Base—which Coinbase itself created and launched—is key, along with fostering commercial partnerships.

“We think USDC has a network effect behind it, and the compliant approach that they’ve taken, I think, is going to be really defensible long term,” Armstrong said, referring to Circle.

“We’ll be accelerating the market cap growth of USDC with more partnerships, and leaning into new use cases like adding payments support across our product suite,” he continued.

Stablecoin revenue totaled $224 million in Coinbase’s fourth quarter, falling $20 million from the previous quarter and representing just 9.4% of the company’s total sales.

In its shareholder letter, Coinbase described USDC as “the fastest growing ‘major’ stablecoin in 2024,” while pointing to $12 billion in on-chain USDC payments that the exchange facilitated.

Coinbase is taking an offensive approach to growing USDC now. But during the bear market in 2023, when trading volumes lagged, the company saw stablecoin revenue bolster its subscriptions and services segment.

In fact, subscriptions and services revenue temporarily surpassed transaction revenue as Coinbase’s main money maker, totaling $334 million and $289 million, respectively, in the third quarter of 2023.

In August of that year, Circle said Coinbase had taken an equity stake in the firm. Both companies agreed to shelve a “self-governance consortium” to better hone their alignment.

Circle and Tether did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Decrypt.

Fans Call for Black Ops 6’s New Slipstream Perk to Be Added to Zombies

Fans Call for Black Ops 6’s New Slipstream Perk to Be Added to Zombies

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a new Multiplayer Perk called Slipstream and Zombies fans already want a piece of the action.

Since releasing back in late October 2024, Black Ops 6 has already delivered two seasons of excellent post-launch content.

Zombies fans have been eating especially good, thanks to Treyarch’s release of two new round-based maps bringing the game’s map roster to a total of four undead survival arenas already.

But fans of the survival mode have been eyeing up a new Perk that arrived in the Black Ops 6’s Multiplayer, and they believe that it should make its way to Zombies in the future.

Slipstream Perk Should Come to Zombies, Fans Believe

In Black Ops 6 Season 2, Treyarch added a new Enforcer Perk called Slipstream.

A player equipped with this Perk loses their ability to Tactical Sprint, but gains an overall speed boost that is marginally slower than the regular boosted sprint.

Black Ops 6 Zombies Grey on The Tomb Map

The Slipstream Perk is powerful because it removes the Aim Down Sight (ADS) time penalties that Tactical Sprint imposes on heavy weapons. In addition, while you can’t sprint quite as fast as with Tac Sprint, you can keep moving at high speeds indefinitely, rather than having a limited amount of sprint to fall back on.

Over on the COD Zombies subreddit, user mattiadece calls on Treyarch to introduce Slipstream to Zombies, despite the fact that Multiplayer Perks don’t currently exist in the mode.

The Zombies fan states their opinion that Tactical Sprint doesn’t belong in Zombies, claiming they’d rather see an increase in overall sprint speed.

The Arguments Against Tac Sprint in Zombies

It seems that more than a few members of the Call of Duty Zombies community have an issue with Tactical Sprint’s implementation in the mode.

Some of the arguments we’ve seen against Tac Sprint in Black Ops 6 Zombies are as follows:

Tac Sprint Is Rough on Controllers – Repeatedly Tac Sprinting leads to increased pressing of your controller’s analog sticks, which fans believe contributes to stick drift.

Extra ADS Times Not Needed in Zombies – Although a point could be made for increased Aim Down Sight times being necessary for balance in Multiplayer, fans aren’t happy with LMGs, Launchers, and Sniper Rifles taking longer to ADS in Zombies.

Zombies Speed Is Tied to Tactical Sprint – In later rounds of Black Ops 6 Zombies, the undead move so fast that it seems likely they’re balanced around a player’s Tactical Sprinting speed.

If Slipstream was added to the game mode, the complaints above would be resolved, but we’re not so sure that Treyarch would be willing to re-balance entire maps with the changes in mind.

As some Reddit users rightfully point out, the Stamin-Up Perk-a-Cola already boosts player movement speed in a similar manner.

Could Slipstream be incorporated into the Perk in some way, assuming Treyarch is even willing to change a Perk-a-Cola’s Augments after their release?

We wouldn’t get your hopes up. That said, Treyarch has been remarkably good at listening to player requests with regards to Black Ops 6 Zombies so far.

And with reportedly three more Zombies maps coming to the game before the end of the year, there’s still plenty of time for the developer to adjust the Black Ops 6’s movement speed.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show slammed over “staged” moment as viewers left fuming

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show slammed over “staged” moment as viewers left fuming

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show has been hit with backlash by angry fans who have claimed one moment was “staged”.

The BBC show returned to screens on Saturday evening (February 15) with comedian Michael back at the helm.

And for the latest ‘Unexpected Star of the Show’ segment, viewers were introduced to singer Lorna Brown, 41, from West Lothian.

However, fans were left rather unimpressed…

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show slammed by fans

On Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, Lorna Brown headed to London with her husband Scott, their three kids and her parents, for a weekend break.

“She thinks she’s about to check into an AirBnb which we have built here,” host Michael said, as he pointed towards a door on stage.

Michael gave a brief tour of the ‘apartment’ and hinted there was a surprise waiting for Lorna inside the fridge.

Lorna arrived at the ‘apartment’ and was then shown around her room by a member of staff, played by an actor.

And things took a dramatic turn when Lorna opened the fridge door – which was actually an entrance to the stage of a theatre audience.

The crowd roared with applause as Lorna emerged onto the stage before Michael introduced himself and explained the situation.

He then confirmed that her family was in the crowd and quizzed Lorna if she had any idea what was happening. She replied: “No, but then I started to think something is going on.”

        Viewers call out ‘staged’ moment

However, viewers were certain that Lorna was told about what was happening, with viewers fuming over the “staged” moment.

I can’t help but think loads of this is staged

“She absolutely knew what was happening, she didn’t look that surprised, she knew fine,” said one person on X.

Someone else mused: “I can’t help but think loads of this is staged…lady came from Scotland to London in those shoes.”

A third chimed in: “I think the unexpected star didn’t seem very surprised when she opened the fridge. I think somebody had warned her beforehand.”

Another agreed: “This woman absolutely knew what was happening.”

        ‘The best unexpected star’

Later on, Lorna – who leads a community choir –  then put on a stunning performance. She made jaws drop thanks to her beautiful rendition of Snow Patrol’s hit Run.

Lorna was absolutely the best unexpected star that’s ever been on

And viewers at home soon showered Lorna with compliments. One person said: “My God Lorna can sing! What a performance. Absolutely superb.”

Someone else agreed: “WOW!!! Lorna was amazing!!! Who needs BGT and XFactor. She deserves a recording contract.”

A third also wrote: “Lorna was absolutely the best unexpected star that’s ever been on #MichaelMcIntyresBigShow. Could listen to your voice all day.”
