Avalanche Shooter ‘Off the Grid’ Has a Thriving Black Market Ahead of On-Chain Trading – Decrypt

Blockchain gaming is supposed to solve the problem of players creating “black markets” for digital items in traditional games, as trading tokenized, user-owned weapons and skins are a key part of open crypto economies.

But ahead of the launch of its Avalanche-based GUNZ L1 mainnet and the on-chain item trading and token that’ll come along with it, Off the Grid—one of crypto’s biggest games to date—has found itself in a very familiar “Web2” kind of situation.

The battle royale shooter has a bustling black market where players trade skins and GUN tokens for real money. This underground economy has spawned due the game currently not allowing players to trade their items freely on-chain, as its mainnet launch looms.

Avid skin collectors gather in clan Discord servers or trading-specific groups, spamming the chat with messages like “Want to buy GUN tokens with USD,” or offering to sell their rare skins in exchange for cash.

This kind of activity is strictly prohibited in the game’s terms of service, but for players aiming to secure some of the game’s best loot before on-chain trading is implemented, it’s apparently worth the risk.

Two of the game’s largest skin collecting whales, Money Magician and torToro, don’t engage with what’s called over-the-counter or OTC trading, because they believe the skins will be worth much more once the GUNZ mainnet launches and items can be freely traded on OpenSea. But they said they’ve received offers.

“For my account, somebody offered $60,000 or something,” Money Magician told Decrypt. “Maybe it seems reasonable right now, but I still wouldn’t sell it—because I know where these NFTs are going.”

These whales own approximately 10,000 and 19,000 NFT items each, both starting their collecting through Off the Grid’s predecessor, a compact mobile experience called Technocore. The pair were then invited to the game’s closed testing period under strict non-disclosure agreement, during which the game’s rarest items to date were released.

During this testing period, players that bought the monthly OTG Pro subscription for $10 were handed the Pioneer content pack as thanks. This came with eight NFT items, and it is believed by the community that only 550 of each were minted at the time.

Thought to be even rarer, however, is the Convict gear and Zippermouth Mask that were available to extract via hexes for a short period of time. The community believes that these are the rarest items in the game, with only 300 of each ever minted. That’s not to mention the possible increased rarity of an item based on its serial number.

There were also guns with modified stats or alternate attachments that were discontinued, which have since been rebranded to “Legacy” and “Retro” skins of stock guns that remain in the game.

Those that own items released during the closed play test are hopeful they will never return to the game, but Theodore Agranat—director of Web3 for developer Gunzilla Games—said that isn’t the case, at least for one of the rare items.

He told Decrypt that the studio “reserves the right” to release items that were never “officially released,” which is defined by it being added to the battle pass, as a monthly content pack, or as part of a special campaign. Agranat said that the Convict gear will “absolutely” be officially released in the future.

Left: Convict chest rig and pants. Right: Pioneer set. Image: torToro

On top of this, Agranat confirmed that Gunzilla Games is working on a more comprehensive numbering system to help validate the amount of items minted. The studio is also implementing a system to display which items are exclusive and which are not.

Off the Grid is currently running on a testnet of GUNZ, the dedicated Avalanche L1 gaming network, meaning that items can be traded on its marketplace using its in-game GUN token. However, items and tokens cannot yet be sold on third-party marketplaces or exchanged for other currencies.

As a result, some players are turning to the black market out of necessity to fulfill their collecting dreams. An avid Off the Grid player simply known as H claims to have bought the Pioneer, Prankster, and Anarchist sets for $3,000, so that he can gift the Pioneer set to his son (who also plays the game) once mainnet hits.

Gamer Henryk Ptasznik shared evidence with Decrypt of an almost $1,500 Solana payment he received, which he claimed was in exchange for his full Pioneer set. He told Decrypt that he did this because he already had enough GUN tokens, and wanted to cash in some of his inventory before mainnet launch, as he fears the uncertainty it may bring.

Most traders, however, are looking to grow their inventory before mainnet, as they believe there will be an immediate price jump—and an even larger increase once a bigger audience starts playing the game and engaging with its on-chain features.

“I believe in the future of Off the Grid. It could be the next Apex [Legends] or Fortnite,” Cpt. Jaxie, a gamer that claims 40% of his crypto portfolio is in Off the Grid NFTs, told Decrypt. “My total investment into Off the Grid is around $4,500, I’ve already turned a profit. I’m around $2,000 in profit.”

“It’s a long-term hold for me,” he added. “One year or more and [it will] 10x in price.”

With so much demand for a black market, many of the biggest Off the Grid clans—such as Flaw Gaming—have dedicated trading Discord channels. In these chats, players look to sell bundles of 1,000 GUN tokens for anywhere between $4 to $10 in an unofficial form of pre-market trading, as well as shift unwanted skins or even sell off their accounts. Other times, buyers will directly approach those holding an item they want, without the need for advertising.

When trading a specific item or set, the two parties enter a dance of risk and trust. After agreeing on a price, one party must list an item on the in-game marketplace for the other to purchase using GUN—which is often sent back to the buyer. Then the buyer must send the agreed-upon amount, usually via crypto, but there are obvious risks here as they could ghost the seller at any time. If there are multiple items to trade, then it may be done in multiple transactions.

Trust risks aside, there are also potential hazards with listing items on the marketplace at all, as a sniper bot could purchase it—especially if it is an ultra-rare item not already on the marketplace. But some traders still persist amid these hurdles.

“I like to have multiples of everything in the market, so I can sell some on mainnet and keep some for myself and my sons,” H told Decrypt. “You can call it a bit of an addiction.”

Previously, Gunzilla Games told Decrypt that it was aiming for a Q1 2025 mainnet launch, which would fully enable trading and eliminate the need for a black market. With only about three weeks left until that deadline, Agranat confirmed to Decrypt that this is still the plan.

Until then, the black market continues to thrive as community members show clear signs that they’re hungry to trade their skins. If Gunzilla Games can’t offer this yet, then much like in Web2 games, players will continue to find ways to trade.

A Complete Guide to Rektguy: The Home of Web3 Culture

Web3 culture is forever changing. Created by degens, innovators and the curious minds that have ventured into blockchain technology, Web3 culture is thoroughly unique – and one NFT brand condenses, lives and represents Web3 culture more than any other. That NFT brand is Rektguy.

Built around the story of an eponymous translucent skull character that’s a real blockchain degen, Rektguy quickly grew from its humble beginnings as a gift to the community into an emblem of artistic expression, boundless creativity, and a de-facto representation of honest Web3 culture.

With Rektguy, holders, believers and fans can experience a true slice of the Web3 industry that they won’t get anywhere else in the NFT industry – but what exactly is Rektguy, what have they created so far, and how has the project become such a success?

Here’s our complete guide to the Rektguy NFT project.

    Key Insights

Conceptualised in January 2022 by OSFReleased as a 8,814-piece NFT collection in May 2022Heralded for its die-hard, culture-focused communityKnown for in-person events, all-in moments, and celebrity holdersExpanded into Rekt Brands, Rekt Rewards and Rekt Drinks in late 2024

A Complete Guide to Rektguy: The Home of Web3 Culture

    What is Rektguy?

Rektguy is an 8,814-piece NFT collection, minted on Ethereum in May 2022, and created by OSF – in collaboration with co-founder Mando and AlienQueen, and with contributions from OSF’s own family.

The eponymous character of Rektguy is a semi-autobiographical symbolisation of a typical degen trader, getting “rekt” by the volatile crypto markets. His hooded nature, gloomy overtones and penchant for a drink reflect the all-too-real coping mechanisms that many lean into during a market downturn.

With this bold, stark and honest approach to both Web3 culture and the realities of being a part of the blockchain community, Rektguy resonated with a wide audience, becoming a symbol of shared experiences, degen communities, and crypto culture.

The creator of the Rektguy character is Ovie Faruq, known in the community as OSF. Rektguy’s inception dates back to OSF’s tenure at Barclays bank. Disillusioned with his corporate role, he would doodle in his spare time – and on one fateful day, OSF would doodle a skull figure wearing a hoodie with “gm” printed on it, holding a cup of coffee.

During this time, OSF was dipping his toes into the blockchain industry – and as he began to explore creating NFT art himself, this character would become front-and-centre of his artistic explorations. OSF’s first major NFT endeavour would be the Degenz NFT collection – but in October 2021, OSF minted the first of what would become known as the Rektguy character as a unique 1-of-1 NFT on Foundation, simply titled “gm”.

This character would become the focal point of his digital creations – leading to the conceptualisation of the Rektguy NFT collection in January 2022, and its eventual launch in May 2022.

    The history of Rektguy

The Rektguy NFT collection made its debut in May 2022.

Holders of OSF’s prior NFTs, including his Degenz NFT collection, could mint a Rektguy for free, with an additional mint available to the public. A total of 8,814 NFTs were minted over the multi-day minting window. The collection saw immediate success, rising to an all-time high floor price of 1.2 ETH shortly after mint.

As Rektguy was released under a Creative Commons Zero (CC0) licence, any holder could make derivative artworks, products and brands from their Rektguy. The first of these, eRektguy, debuted in June 2022, starting a long list of future Rektguy derivative projects.

Rektguy Guide - Rekt CommunityRektguy Guide - Rekt Community

2022 was a busy year for the Rektguy team. It was during this period that the culture-centric focus of the Rektguy community came to the forefront, with an engaged holder-base led by a few standout community members – interacting in The Dive Bar Discord server and elsewhere. This includes figures such as the ever-enthusiastic The Patron, the mysterious figure known as The Ghost, and later celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Gary Vaynerchuk.

Hype and excitement rose towards summer 2022, where Rektguy staged The Rekt Show at famed burlesque venue The Box during NFT.NYC 2022. Bringing together the Rektguy community in an official capacity for the very first time, the event was a celebration of the Rektguy brand and the insatiable community they had build up to that point. This show would later be replicated in London, and again in NYC, solidifying Rektguy’s IRL events as must-see attractions.

September 2022 heralded the start of The Metallic War, a fiercely-contested yet friendly rivalry between three groups of Rektguy holders: the Golden Girls (gold hoodie Rektguys), the Silver Foxes (iced hoodie Rektguys), and the Strawberry Laces (strawberry lace hoodie Rektguys). This inner rivalry continues to this day, and serves as a testament to the passion and engagement of Rektguy holders around the world.

Rektguy Guide - OSF gm TattooRektguy Guide - OSF gm Tattoo

September 2022 also marked the start of a challenge, issued by OSF: if Rektguy hits 1 ETH, he’ll get a “rekt” tattoo. At the time, the floor price sat at 0.3 ETH – making that target seem ambitious, but not unachievable. In a show of solidarity, many members of the Rektguy community pledged to join OSF in receiving a tattoo should the collection hit 1 ETH. The floor price steadily rose, until that 1 ETH target was reached in December 2022.

Knowing that the 1 ETH floor was coming, OSF got his tattoo done in advance with Ian Rogers, the CXO of Ledger, at renowned Paris tattoo studio Tin-Tin Tatouages. Sharing the images as soon as the 1 ETH floor was hit, the community response was overwhelming. Other Rektguy holders quickly following up on their pledges too, cementing the passion, camaraderie and degen culture of the Rektguy brand.

This isn’t the only challenge issued by the Rektguy founders. Not only has OSF pledged that he will not cut his hair until Rektguy reaches a 4.2 ETH floor price, co-founder Mando – ostensibly not a “tattoo guy” – has stated he will get a “rekt” tattoo on his posterior should that 4.2 ETH floor become a reality.

2023 was somewhat of a quieter year – even though Gary Vee became a Rektguy holder in May 2023. In 2024 though, it all ramped up once again.

In July 2024, OSF announced that Rekt Brands, a company set up to manage and direct the future of the Rektguy brand, had distributed shares in the company to holders of Rektguys NFTs – becoming the first major NFT collection to do so.

This was followed by a laundry list of cryptic social media posts, all with the caption “Something is brewing…”. Then, August 1, 2024 came the announcement of Rekt Rewards. Through Rekt Rewards, participants could earn DRANK points by completing social quests, and later down the line, for purchasing Rekt Drinks – a new sparkling water beverage developed by Rekt Brands.

September 2024 saw OSF announce that all revenues and royalties from any new artworks he made would be directed to Rekt Brands, growing the company and investing in the Rektguy community.

Rektguy Guide - Rekt Seed RoundRektguy Guide - Rekt Seed Round

Rekt Drinks launched on October 30, 2025, available to purchase online in fiat, SOL and SOL USDC, with near-worldwide delivery. The launch was a massive success, with all of the drinks selling out by November 1 – totalling over 222,000 cans.

Five days later, Rekt Brands announced a $1.5M seed round, with investors including Luca Netz of Pudgy Penguins, Zagabond of Azuki, and Jack Butcher of Visualize Value.

Those DRANK points didn’t take long to have an effect, as November 22, 2025 saw the launch of $REKT – an ecosystem token for the Rektguy community. Today, $REKT sits at a market cap of $12.2 million USD, with a fully-diluted value of just over $20 million USD.

The Rektguy X profile was taken over by a $REKT-powered AI agent in January 2025 – and the brand has continued to go from strength to strength. Rekt Drinks had a massive presence at NFT Paris 2025, and their Rekt Radio podcast hit its 100th episode in February 2025.

    What’s next for Rektguy?

With a brand that’s as community-centric and community-driven as Rektguy, the path ahead is an open book.

With their recent investment, and efforts in promoting Rekt Drinks in particular, here’s what we could expect in future:

More Web3-related products. Powered by $REKT, Rekt Drinks has been a huge success. More utility would be a clear boost for the token, so perhaps we can see an expanded suite of Rektguy-branded products in future.More community initiatives. Rektguy’s primary strength has always been its passionate, engaged and wildly degen community. Finding ways to capitalise on this following – in a way that benefits both brand and community – could be key to their future success.More partnerships. With their big-name Web3 backers, alongside a generally positive sentiment amongst many in the community, there could be ample opportunity to leverage other prominent Web3 communities for the benefit of the Rektguy brand and NFT holders.

Rektguy isn’t just a movement, it’s the movement of the Web3 industry. What started as a doodle in a notebook has evolved into an impactful challenger brand that’s finding new fans everywhere it goes.

Through love, passion and camaraderie, Rektguy has become one of the most well-liked and highly-regarded projects in the Web3 industry – and with the power of the community behind them, their future is as bright as ever.

8 Best JRPGs With Time Travel

8 Best JRPGs With Time Travel

One of my favorite themes in any work is time travel, whether it’s jumping from the past to the future or even dealing with alternate timelines.

Consequently, I also love games that embrace this theme, especially JRPGs. However, I recognize that it’s rare for a game to nail the theme appropriately, both narratively and in gameplay.

    Related

9 Best JRPGs With Anime Cutscenes

Who put these anime cutscenes in my JRPGs? More, please!

Usually, we have to be pretty lenient with the application of time travel in games because it’s easy to spot loopholes in its execution. But if a game masters time-hopping, the result is splendid.

In this list, I’ll highlight the best JRPGs that feature time travel and successfully incorporate the theme, whether through the story, a gameplay mechanic, or even both, creating a true time-traveling masterpiece.

    8 Tales of Phantasia

    Villain Everywhere All at Once

    tales-of-phantasia-time-travel

Tales of Phantasia was the first Tales of game released. It was already ambitious, introducing a new action combat system, high-end graphics for the SNES, and time-traveling mechanics.

The time-travel system in Tales of Phantasia is entirely structured around the narrative, as it has no gameplay implications, and even so, it’s still highly convoluted.

Cress, the protagonist, is sent to the past to find a way to defeat the villain Dhaos in the present. However, past Dhaos is still alive, and it’s up to Cress and the other party members to take him down.

With more levels than before, the protagonist returns to the present and manages to defeat the first Dhaos, not affected by past events.

Just when they think everything is fine, a visitor from the future shows up, saying the villain is still alive. Cress and the gang go again to smack him, now fifty years ahead.

Despite this mess and the constant tug at the player’s patience, it’s fun to travel through time and witness the crazy adventures along the way.

JRPGs that let us recruit party members through different eras are always amazing, and Tales of Phantasia was one of the first to do it.

7 Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

    Saving The World Alongside Yourself

    mario-luigi-partners-in-time-time-travel

I’ve got good news and bad news for you. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time focuses on time travel entirely for gameplay, bringing fun twists like most Nintendo games. If you’re looking for pure enjoyment, this JRPG has plenty.

However, it does this while disregarding any narrative implications of time travel. If you’re expecting a well-structured story or an airtight plot in this Mario game, you might as well give up and look elsewhere.

With that said, let’s focus on the positives. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time allows the Mario Bros. to travel to the past through Time Holes found in Princess Peach’s Castle. In the past, they meet Baby Mario and Baby Luigi.

That’s where the gimmick begins. The player can control all the characters together, with the babies adorably piggybacking on their older versions, or separately for puzzle-solving, like slipping into small crevices.

In battles, the adult versions usually take action, but if they get knocked out, the babies take the lead. The entire time-traveling theme exists just to justify Mario and Luigi meeting their younger selves and to introduce this unique and amusing gameplay mechanic.

6 Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle)

    Building Bases Through Time

    dark-cloud-2-time-travel

In Dark Cloud 2, known as Dark Chronicle everywhere outside the US, the player can travel between times using stones called Atlamilia, held by Max and Monica.

The villain, Griffon, wants to steal the stones so he can control time and dominate the future. To prevent this, Max and Monica travel through eras—past, present, and future—restoring villages to thwart Griffon’s powers.

This is where the core gameplay loop of Dark Cloud 2 comes into play.

Those who wanted to explore Nintendo’s JRPG catalog in the 2000s would have to rely on its handhelds rather than home consoles.

We need to rebuild villages using the JRPG’s town-building mechanic. To do this, we explore dungeons, collect materials, and use georamas. After restoring the corresponding village and gathering new allies, we move on to the next.

Time traveling is the central theme of Dark Cloud 2, but it has no technical applications in gameplay. Like many other games that feature it, it’s best to leave science and theories aside.

Otherwise, you’ll find so many loopholes and possible paradoxes that your enjoyment of Dark Cloud 2 will shrink the more your suspension of disbelief struggles. If you can’t do that, just enjoy the game for its base-building design and be happy.

5 Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

    The Post-Game Content

    dragon-quest-11-time-travel

To me, Dragon Quest XI is a JRPG masterpiece and would be my favorite in the franchise, stealing the crown from Dragon Quest VIII if only the game hadn’t chickened out in its third act.

The first and second acts of Dragon Quest XI, considered the canon story, are fantastic. The JRPG franchise has always been colorful and way too friendly. But not here, in the eleventh entry. At one point, everything goes wrong, and even a party member dies.

That is, until the protagonist, the Luminary, decides to travel back in time, return to the past, and break everything that had happened up to that point.

All the stakes, conflicts, losses, and moments of overcoming hardships were erased. God, I was so frustrated with that.

A robust post-game is a tradition in the franchise, adding tons of new content, a whole new storyline, and an endgame boss. Even though Square Enix labels Dragon Quest XI’s third act as post-game, it really feels canon, especially considering its connection to Dragon Quest III.

    4 Cris Tales

Indie JRPG Based on Time Travel

    cris-tales-battle

The Colombian studio Dreams Uncorporated released Cris Tales in 2021. It’s a JRPG-inspired indie game that revolves around time traveling, both in the narrative and as a tool for its turn-based battles.

Story-wise, it’s pretty straightforward. The Empress of Time, Cris Tales’ main antagonist, destroys the protagonist Crisbell’s village.

At that moment, the girl discovers she also has temporal powers and sets off on an adventure to defeat the villain.

Where Cris Tales really shines is in battle. During combat, the screen is divided into three sections. Enemies on the left side can be sent to the past, turning into their younger, weaker, and less experienced selves.

Meanwhile, enemies on the right can be sent to the future, causing their metal armor to rust or causing a poisonous seed planted to suddenly bloom into a deadly plant.

It’s an incredibly clever mechanic that pushes the player to think strategically rather than just spamming available attacks.

Sometimes, sending an enemy to the past makes them healthier and stronger, while sending them to the future makes them more skilled and dangerous. Cris Tales is a goldmine for fans of JRPGs and time-traveling mechanics.

    3 Final Fantasy XIII-2

Fixing Paradoxes While Creating New Ones

    final-fantasy-13-2-time-travel

While the community mocked Final Fantasy XIII for its linearity—often dubbed a hallway simulator—its direct sequel, Final Fantasy XIII-2, took the complete opposite approach.

Playing as Serah, Lightning’s sister, alongside the newcomer Noel, we hop from timeline to timeline, fixing paradoxes and unlocking new alternate universes, considerably growing the game’s mythology.

I know many people hate Final Fantasy XIII-2, but I love this JRPG. The feature that lets us pick episodes in a matrix-like structure, watch how our actions influence different outcomes, and explore various possibilities is incredibly satisfying.

The story also gracefully tackles the time-traveling theme. Caius, one of the most underrated villains in the entire Final Fantasy franchise, truly deserves more love because his character arc is extremely relatable.

Also, Final Fantasy XIII-2 has one of the best boss battles tied to time-traveling mechanics. It’s not exactly a gameplay mechanic, but the JRPG presents a unique take where the boss avoids destruction by simply resetting itself to a past version before it dies. It’s confusing without playing it, but believe me, it’s amusing.

    2 Chrono Trigger

    Reference on Time-Traveling Mechanics

    chrono-trigger-time-travel

Discussing time travel in gaming is humanly impossible without immediately thinking of Chrono Trigger. The JRPG’s take on the theme was incredible, and even today, it serves as a reference for future games.

Right from the start, Chrono Trigger shows us exactly how its time-traveling mechanics will work. It’s elegant, embraces simplicity, and, most importantly, it works.

Every era we visit in the game feels believable and reflects the world’s evolution. Even better, some side quests allow us to directly influence how the world develops without feeling far-fetched.

Chrono Trigger proves that just because a game tackles a complex theme doesn’t mean its execution has to be overly complicated.

With careful design and technical finesse, this JRPG masterpiece simplified a mechanic that’s often poorly implemented and employed it to enhance the game as a whole.

    1 Radiant Historia

    The Butterfly Effect of JRPGs

    radiant-historia-time-travel

I know it sounds weird to put Chrono Trigger in second place, but if you play Radiant Historia, preferably the Perfect Chronology version, you’ll understand why.

While Chrono Trigger lets us travel through time and visit different eras, Radiant Historia takes a different approach to the theme. Here, we have two parallel realities, where the protagonist, Stocke, constantly hops between them.

Think of this JRPG as more of a Butterfly Effect than anything. Stocke encounters a problem in the original timeline, called the Standard Story, so he either jumps to the past, looking for a way to fix it, or to the Alternate Story, where his actions influence the other timeline and vice versa.

And despite the protagonist constantly shifting between the past, present, and an alternate reality, it’s surprisingly difficult to find any plot holes in Radiant Historia. The writing is impeccable, the motivations are believable, and the execution is flawless.

Overall, I still consider Chrono Trigger a better game than Radiant Historia. But if we’re strictly talking about time traveling in JRPGs, then I’d pick the latter without batting an eyelash.

Very few games have managed to grasp the theme’s nuances as well as Radiant Historia did.

Ant and Dec were almost sued for m by man who claimed duo ‘ruined his career’

Ant and Dec were previously nearly sued by an American star for an eye-watering amount.

Since shooting to fame in the late 1980s, the Geordie duo have become TV’s go-to presenting duo. From hosting Britain’s Got Talent – which is on today (March 8) – to I’m A Celeb, the boys have kept busy over the years.

However, back in 2008, the pair were almost sued by an American comedian to stop them from using his name while they worked in the US.

Why were Ant and Dec nearly sued?

In 2008, comedian Anthony Kalloniatis tried to sue Ant for trademark infringement.

Anthony – who legally changed his name to ANT in 1993 – is best known for hosting the US version of Celebrity Fit Club.

He was also a regular guest on chat shows in the 2000s, including The Tyra Banks Show and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

He claimed he was losing work due to him being confused for Ant and Dec. It was reported Anthony feared they could harm his career.

At the time, Ant and Dec were trying to crack America by hosting the US gameshow Wanna Bet?. However, due to poor ratings, the show was cancelled after one season.

Comedian tried to sue Ant and Dec

As MailOnline reports, Anthony wanted to sue for $30m and claimed that when Ant and Dec applied to use their names in America, they failed to make it clear they were comedians.

Under US rules, no two performers can have the same name.

As well as that, Anthony reportedly claimed that his “valuable reputation” could be tarnished due to Ant and Dec’s involvement in shows embroiled in phone-in scandals.

      Ant’s suit was rejected

The publication also claimed that, at the time, Ant and Dec’s American lawyers were investigating the allegations.

However, the suit ended up getting rejected in 2010. And, as the Telegraph reports, Ant McPartlin was awarded more than $60,000 in legal fees.

ITV announces Britain’s Got Talent schedule shake-up as week of live semi-finals cancelled

One of the longest running and most successful televised talent competition shows in UK TV history, Britain’s Got Talent has undergone various changes during its nearly 20-year run.

Its format was devised by Simon Cowell, who is also one of its longest-serving judges.

It has created winners and losers, and those in between. Diversity’s Ashley Banjo locked himself away for weeks after a dance routine he choreographed prompted upwards of 20,000 complaints to Ofcom. The backlash was epic, although he assured his fans that negativity was came from a vocal minority.

Ant McPartlin recently issued a warning ahead of a BGT performance, again provoking viewers’ ire. Bruno Tonioli has not escaped unscathed, with audiences requesting he “sit down” after a recent episode.

Now, in its Spring Highlights Brochure 2025, published on March 4, ITV has confirmed that it is shaking up the viewing schedule for the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals this year.

ITV changes schedule for Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals

By now, regular audiences will have adjusted to the fact that BGT has been airing on Saturdays only.

In the past, it was broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays.

        But that’s not all.

The live semi-finals will now air weekly, rather than airing all in one week, as they have done in previous years. They will also be live, per ITV. This means series 18 will be the longest in BGT history.

ITV’s commissioning editor Lily Wilson explained the intention behind this decision, saying the network wanted to “hit that family audience”. She added: “Starting in February means we can build excitement over a longer period while making the live semi-finals a much bigger event.”

Another difference this year is that the auditions are being filmed entirely in Blackpool, instead of London, as they have been in the past.

The winner of the show will receive £250,000 and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance, as per usual.

Three acts who have received Golden Buzzer places in the semifinals

The auditions are still running, but three acts so far in series 18 of Britain’s Got Talent have wowed the judges (or Ant & Dec) enough to receive a free pass to the semifinals.

They are: Vinnie McKee (buzzed through by Simon Cowell), Will Burns (by Ant & Dec) and Stacey Leadbeatter (KSI).

Vinnie performed a rendition of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers. He’s a bingo caller who sometimes sings to holidaymakers while they dine.

Will is a singer and impressionist who works as a charity fundraiser. He sang Don’t You Want Me by The Human League and performed impressions of Peter Dickson, Craig Cash, Ant & Dec, David Attenborough, Gary Barlow and Marcus Bentley.

Stacey sang Leona Lewis’ cover of Run by Snow Patrol. KSI said he was in awe. Amanda Holden, meanwhile, faced backlash for her comments.

Britain’s Got Talent continues Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.

‘Mickey 17’ Review | A Sci-Fi Masterpiece That Explores Identity, Capitalism, and Survival

          0
‘Mickey 17’ Review | A Sci-Fi Masterpiece That Explores Identity, Capitalism, and Survival

Making a biopic is never easy. However, making a biopic about a name many people might not know is even more difficult. If you are a wrestling fan, you’d know names such as Dan McLeod, Cowboy Bob Ellis, Ric Flair and more. These are some of the names who took professional wrestling to greater heights and made it a global sensation. However, not many people know about women’s wrestling, its rise to success, and the struggles female wrestlers faced in a male-dominated sport. In today’s time, women’s wrestling has evolved so much and female wrestlers are getting the recognition that they wholeheartedly deserve. But there was a time when a section of society didn’t see women getting into the ring and being a part of the sport. However, one woman refused to back down, doing everything to bring women at the forefront, and that name was Mildred Burke. If you haven’t heard of her before, Ash Avildsen’s movie Queen of the Ring tells the inspiring story of how Burke stopped at nothing to prove that women not only belong in the wrestling ring but are also capable of headlining main events. But is the movie worth watching? The answer to that question is HELL YEAH!!!

Queen of the Ring tells the story of Mildred Burke (played by Emily Bett Rickards), a determined single mother who works at her mother’s diner but dreams of achieving something greater. From the initial scenes, viewers get to know that she loves wrestling and wants to know about the sport. While watching a wrestling match between two male wrestlers, she realizes that she wants to be a wrestler and wrestle professionally, but doesn’t know how to move ahead with it. One night, she meets wrestling promoter Billy Wolfe (played by Josh Lucas) and tries telling about her desire to be a wrestler. Initially, he doesn’t listen to her, but she doesn’t back down and Wolfe gives her a chance to have a practice match with a man. She defeats him in the practice, prompting Wolfe to train her. In no time, Burke became his most-valued asset and took her everywhere. But Burke’s ambitions were big as she wanted to be a big name in the sport of wrestling, and that’s when the story takes a dramatic turn, as Burke’s rise to fame is met with relentless challenges—both inside the ring and beyond—forcing her to fight not just for victories, but for respect, recognition, and her rightful place in a male-dominated sport.

A Story of Determination, Passion, and Perseverance

One of the film’s greatest strengths lies in its storytelling. Avildsen crafts a narrative that seamlessly balances Mildred Burke’s personal life with her professional journey, shedding light on the sacrifices she made to break barriers in the wrestling world. The screenplay delves into her tumultuous relationship with promoter Billy Wolfe, whose controlling grip on women’s wrestling presented one of Burke’s biggest obstacles. The film also explores her rivalries with contemporaries like Mae Young (Francesca Eastwood) and June Byers (Kamille), adding layers of complexity to the narrative. Beyond the wrestling ring, Queen of the Ring highlights the emotional weight of Burke’s battles, making her triumphs even more impactful. The film does not shy away from depicting the struggles of women in a sport where they were often treated as mere side attractions rather than legitimate athletes. By focusing on Burke’s relentless pursuit of equality, the film becomes more than just a sports drama—it is a testament to the power of perseverance and the fight for recognition.

Apart from good storytelling, the visuals make this film such an enthralling watch. This film is a stunning tribute to its era. The cinematography by Andrew Strahorn captures the atmosphere of 1930s-50s America in the most amazing way possible, from smoky wrestling halls to the bright lights of championship bouts. The film’s color palette and set design enhance the authenticity of the period, taking audiences back to a time when women’s wrestling was a fiercely contested battleground. Moreover, the camera work during the wrestling sequences is beyond amazing, using close-ups and wide shots to highlight the intensity and magnitude of the matches.

          Emily Bett Francesca Eastwood

Emily Bett Rickards shines as Burke, Francesca Eastwood triumphs

However, it is the stellar performances of the cast that truly make Queen of the Ring a knockout, bringing depth, authenticity, and emotional weight to this inspiring story. Emily Bett Rickards delivers a thumping performance as Mildred Burke, embodying the grit, resilience, and indomitable spirit of the wrestling pioneer. She brings an emotional depth to Burke’s character, capturing both her vulnerability and fierce determination. From the hardships of her personal life to the brutal battle inside the ring, Rickards ensures that the wrestler’s struggles and triumphs resonate deeply with the audience. Burke was the first female athlete in the history to earn $1 million at a time when women fought hard to break the shackles, giving women the motivation to move ahead. She worked hard for it and so did Rickards to bring the wrestler’s unique personality to the screen. Her physical commitment to the role is commendable and she looked like someone who could hold a wrestling championship over her waist.

While Rickards shines as Burke, the supporting cast elevates the film even further. Francesca Eastwood delivers a strong performance as Mae Young, portraying her with both charisma and intensity. Eastwood is one of the standout performers in the film and makes everyone realize how she can portray complex characters effortlessly. She may not have many in-ring sequences, but she captures Young’s charismatic personality with remarkable precision. Every gesture, expression, and line delivery reflects the confidence and charm that made Young stand out. Even in moments outside the ring, she commands attention, making her presence felt in every scene. Her portrayal adds depth to the character, ensuring that Young’s legacy shines through. Meanwhile, Kamille as June Byers is extraordinary. She has a commanding presence throughout the film and perfectly captures the competitive rivalry between her and Burke. Josh Lucas is outstanding as Billy Wolfe, embodying the manipulative and controlling promoter with chilling authenticity. His portrayal adds depth to Burke’s struggle, making her victories feel even more hard-earned. On the other hand, Deborah Ann Woll steals the show with an emotionally charged-up performance. Her story arc is really moving and gives the film more emotional depth.

          Emily Bett Camille

‘Queen of the Ring’s is a biopic done right

For fans of professional wrestling, Queen of the Ring delivers exhilarating in-ring action that feels raw and intense. The wrestling sequences are choreographed with precision, staying true to the classic wrestling style of the era. Each match is shot with a dynamic energy that immerses the audience in the brutal yet captivating nature of the sport. The climactic showdown between Burke and June Byers is particularly riveting, serving as an emotionally charged and technically impressive highlight of the film.

Overall,’Queen of the Ring’ is an inspiring and well-crafted biographical drama that does justice to Mildred Burke’s legacy. With thrilling wrestling sequences, and a compelling narrative, the film successfully blends sports action with deep emotional storytelling. Ash Avildsen delivers a movie that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, ensuring that Burke’s story will continue to inspire future generations. This is a biopic done right!

          A must-watch!

Public Keys: Strategy Skips the Bitcoin Dip as Circle Marks Its Spot – Decrypt

Public Keys: Strategy Skips the Bitcoin Dip as Circle Marks Its Spot – Decrypt

Public Keys is a weekly roundup from Decrypt that tracks the key publicly traded crypto companies. This week’s edition of Public Keys focuses on whether analysts think Michael Saylor’s Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, could have better timed its recent Bitcoin buys, a potential silver lining on the trade war fracas for would-be U.S. Bitcoin hardware manufacturers, and IPO speculation for USDC issuer Circle.

          Strategy’s timing problem

It’s no secret that Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has spent billions of dollars acquiring Bitcoin. At the time of writing, the software company is sitting on nearly $44 billion worth of BTC—an amount that’s equal to 56% of its $78 billion market capitalization. And this year alone, it’s already spent $5.3 billion buying Bitcoin.

But investors now seem skeptical that the company has a sound strategy for timing its buys as the post-election buzz cools. Its stock premium hit a 10-month low on Monday as the company noted in an SEC filing that it did not buy the latest Bitcoin dip.

On Friday afternoon, Strategy, which trades on the Nasdaq under the MSTR ticker, closed at $287.18, down 5.6% on the day.

Chip off the ol’ Block, Inc.

President Donald Trump’s trade wars have left financial markets on a punishing roller coaster. But if the friction lingers, there’s a small chance it could begin to erode the dominance of Chinese Bitcoin mining rig manufacturer Bitmain.

That could be good news for Jack Dorsey’s Bitcoin-focused Block, Inc. and Core Scientific, the firm to which Doresey’s company has initially agreed to sell its chips.

Core Scientific noted in its Q4 earnings call last month that it’s holding off on making any upgrades to its fleet of mining rigs until it’s able to get Block’s 3-nanometer mining chips up and running in the back half of 2025.

But Bitcoin mining analysts noted that it’s not the only company making moves to challenge Bitmain.

Block, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the XYZ ticker, closed the week at $59.81 after having gained 0.33% during trading.

          Circle marks its spot

Sure, the details are scant, but USDC stablecoin issuer Circle’s representatives made a trip to Washington to meet with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Task Force. The team included Circle President Heath Tarbert, General Counsel Dan Kaleba, Deputy General Counsel Christine Parker, and Vice President Corey Then.

A public memo notes that the company described USDC as a “payment stablecoins” and made its case for the “non-applicability of securities laws to certain payment stablecoins.”

A few months back, ARK Invest hypothesized that Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, was getting its house in order to make another run at an IPO under the Trump administration.

For a while, Circle was looking to go public via SPAC—but had to call it off in 2022. Then rumors were flying that it wanted to try again in 2024.

Late last year, the company moved its global headquarters from Boston to New York City, saying it wanted to be in the “heart of Wall Street.” It’s also looking to set up shop at One World Trade Center—right across the street from banking behemoth Goldman Sachs.

Of course, crypto exchange Coinbase was the first—and so far, only—major crypto company to go public with a direct listing in 2021. So it’s not surprising that Circle has spent years trying to follow in its footsteps.

          Other keys

Meanwhile, newly public Bitcoin rewards company Fold just added $41 million to its BTC reserve. It’s not the only corporate player buying the dip. Japan’s Metaplanet saw its stock rise 20% after it added $43 million to its own Bitcoin treasury, which is now valued at roughly $252 million.

Wall Street analyst firm Rosenblatt initiated coverage of crypto exchange Coinbase with a buy rating and $305 price target on Friday. The firm added that the recent market pullback highlights that investors should stick to “higher ground,” meaning that they should limit their crypto investments to “blue chips” like Coinbase.

Speaking of Coinbase, fellow San Francisco-based crypto exchange Kraken might soon be joining it on Wall Street with an IPO of its own, according to a Bloomberg report late Friday. A Kraken spokesperson told Decrypt that going public has been in the works for a long time, so the news shouldn’t really come as any surprise.

And finally, Nasdaq President Tal Cohen has a question that’ll resonate with degens: Why sleep? He said in a LinkedIn post that the exchange has begun discussions with regulators to allow for 24-hour trading. But it wouldn’t be 24/7, just 24/5. The suits aren’t ready to give up their weekends.

The Evolution of Crypto Gambling: What’s Changing in 2025?

          0
The Evolution of Crypto Gambling: What’s Changing in 2025?

Crypto casino websites operate exactly like online casinos but offer several differences, including payment solutions. High security, impressive bonus offers, and 100% user data anonymity are mandatory aspects of a reputable Bitcoin casino.

Online gambling is a trend in today’s casino space. The industry has grown from $50 million in 2019 to an impressive $250 million in 2024. High potential for further growth and adoption continues to dictate the game. The article analyzes how an online blockchain casino works and why more and more online players hitch-hike over it from plain old, online ones.

          What Is a Crypto Casino?

A Bitcoin casino is an online gambling platform that enables players to process deposits and payouts with crypto. This does not mean a gambling house does not accept payments via wire or e-wallets in USD, EUR, etc. Crypto is the central form of payment, providing lightning speed, nonsensory fees, and 100% anonymity.

Bitcoin casino sites also use blockchain technology, which provides a decentralized and secure gambling experience. Reputable and trusted gaming platforms utilize blockchain to make transactions on-chain. This means automated and close-to-instant winnings withdrawals, leveling out the factor of human error. For the rest, a blockchain casino fully twins an online one regarding bonus offers, pro-level support, etc.

Bitcoin Casinos: Pros & Cons You Need to Know

The expected number of global crypto users may reach 861 million people in 2025. Most of the TA (target audience) have a soft spot for online games, including gambling. The fusion of crypto and gaming triggers even more interest between both communities, resulting in new Bitcoin online casino sites emerging monthly.

Far from all platforms can be called reputable and trusted, meaning some of them are risk-bearing. We suggest weighing all the pros and cons so that two sides of the same coin can be called a Bitcoin casino.

          Pros:

100% privacyTransactions and personal data remain anonymous.Quick processingInstant deposits and payouts.Easy-to-miss feesMinimal processing fees.Global accessAvailable worldwide, no geo-restrictions.Provably fairTransparent and verifiable game fairness.

          Cons:

VolatilityCrypto prices can fluctuate at any point.ComplexityIt can be confusing for beginners.Regulation issuesUnclear legal status in some locations.

Bitcoin Online Casino: What Cryptocurrencies Can You Use?

Blockchain gambling casino websites have a wide array of choices concerning digitalized payment options. Each of them has its killer features and can be used depending on a specific scenario:

Bitcoin (BTC) is the most well-known and widely used coin. It performs well in blockchain casino games and is booming in popularity, versatility, and security.Altcoins. All coins other than Bitcoin are called altcoins. The most common examples include Ethereum (ETH) for instant transactions, Litecoin (LTC) for low transaction fees, Dash for enhanced privacy, etc.Stablecoins. We recommend considering options like Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) as they are versatile and shiftable among top crypto gambling platforms. Plus, both are pegged as 1:1 to the US dollar.

Skilled gambling enthusiasts juggle with payment options depending on their value-adds. Meanwhile, newcomers can opt for stablecoins to lose no sleep over it and get on the roll in an instant.

Crypto Casino: Legal or Not? Let’s Find Out!

This is a mixed bag, as the legality of blockchain casinos differs depending on each jurisdiction. Some countries have already considered crypto and blockchain-related legislation. As a result, Bitcoin casinos operate within the legal framework, ensuring the validity and security of operations. For example, the UK and Malta have clear standards for crypto gambling.

On the other hand, cryptocurrency casino legality in the US varies from state to state. It all depends on the local legal position regarding online gambling in principle. Today, no federal law puts a veto on digital casino games or allows them.

The legal aspect of crypto gambling platforms remains a fundamental issue. A valid license is a mandatory detail for any BTC casino. We recommend checking a gambling provider’s license and jurisdiction and bypassing gaming sites that lack it.

Claps Crypto Casino: The Best Fit for You in 2025

We recommend Claps, the best cryptocurrency casino that has made a noise worldwide since 2024. The gambling platform is ideally tailored for crypto deposit processing and is a good pick for both newbies and veterans of online games. Final Words

Blockchain casinos run just like traditional online ones. However, they utilize blockchain tech to deliver instant payouts, 100% privacy, and low fees.

Gambling enthusiasts are eligible to use multiple crypto coins to deposit and withdraw winnings. The options range from Bitcoin and altcoins to stablecoins like USDT and USDC.

The legal aspect of the matter does not limit or restrict Bitcoin casinos. It all depends on the jurisdiction. Some countries, like Great Britain, have already implemented a regulatory environment. Others, like the USA, debate from state to state.
