Saboteur 2 – An enhanced mod by thealfest for the Amstrad CPC/ZX Spectrum [UPDATE]

Now here’s a blast from the past and a game that I remember as being one of the best action-adventure games I had ever played on the Amstrad CPC 464. It’s ‘Saboteur II’ developed by Clive Townsend and released by Durell Software in 1987, the same publishers behind the incredible dragon flying ‘Thanatos’. This fine game was released for many platforms such as the CPC, ZX Spectrum and C64, and featured a female protagonist who must break into a high-security compound, fight off guards, avoid pumas and alter the course of a nuclear ballistic missile and then escape on a motorbike.

But the news of today is this all time classic game of which we have featured countless times in the past, has recently been updated for the Amstrad CPC with an enhanced mod by thealfest. As in the words of the website. “I am a big fan of the original 1987 Saboteur 2 for ZX Spectrum by Clive Townsend. This is my attempt to make this old classic more enjoyable but still very close to the original. The entire game code was rewritten with performance and playability as the highest priorities”.

Update : Today the creator has also updated the ZX Spectrum version, and he was quoted as saying. “I am a big fan of the original 1987 Saboteur 2 for ZX Spectrum by Clive Townsend. Katie Thurston Reveals Breast Cancer Is Stage 4, Has Spread to Her Liver

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

We have some unfortunate news to report about one of reality TV’s most beloved stars.

Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer back in February.

She’s offered frequent, candid updates throughout her treatment, revealing earlier this week that she feared a diagnosis of stage four cancer.

Sadly, Katie revealed today that her worst fears were confirmed, and her cancer has spread to her liver.

Katie Thurston says she remains optimistic about her treatment

“After days of waiting, unfortunately, I did find out today that my breast cancer has spread to the liver,” Katie shared in an Instagram post.

“It is fairly small, however, it does put me at stage four,” she continued, adding:

“I know stage four can sound very scary, and it can be.”

Obviously, this is not the news that Katie was hoping to receive following her latest round of tests.

Katie explained that despite the prognosis, she remains “very optimistic” about her future.

She informed fans that she is “triple positive,” and the cancerous spots on her liver are “fairly small and detected early.”

“43 days since diagnosis and still no treatment? There is a lot of testing and prep that goes into cancer treatment. One important test is checking to see if the cancer has metastasized (spread),” Katie added in a caption.

“Unfortunately for me, mine has and I am now #stage4breastcancer . I’ll finally start my treatment next week.”

Katie receives an outpouring of support from fans

The news comes just days after Katie revealed that she had married longtime boyfriend Jeff Arcuri in a small, private ceremony.

Today, Jeff was one of thousands of commenters who offered loving and supportive words

“You’re the strongest woman I know. We got this,” Arcuri wrote.

“You’ve got this Katie. Someone told me it would be the hardest year of my life, but it will give me back the rest of my life. Your positivity will be the backbone of it all, sending so much love!!” another supporter wrote.

“Both my aunts survived stage 4 very advanced cancers and both have been in remission fior for 25+ years. You got this!” a third chimed in.

“You got this Katie ! Prayers to you,” wrote Grant Ellis, the most recent star of The Bachelor.

We’d like to add our voice to the chorus of fans wishing Katie all the best in her road to recovery.

We’ll have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Patrick Johnston on Why Celebs Are Hugging Pots at His Ceramics Studio

Patrick Johnston on Why Celebs Are Hugging Pots at His Ceramics Studio

Play with clay! Kendall and Kylie JennerSeth Rogen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Hailey Bieber have been flocking to Patrick Johnston’s Temple of Mediclaytion ceramics studio in Venice, California, and there’s a special reason why.

The artist, who has become known for his signature hugged and loved vases, sat down with ET to share why A-listers can’t get enough of his one-of-a-kind collection

“When I was 12, I was finally eligible to take a wheel throwing class and have not stopped since. … I learned early on that imagination and motivation are the keys to success in ceramics,” he explains.

      Patrick Johnston/Instagram

Beyond using pottery as an outlet to ‘fire up’ his creativity, Johnston also appreciates the bond the activity forms between people.

“I love how regardless of social status or background, my ceramics studio levels the playing field and everyone is welcome,” he says.

As for how he accomplishes this: “Our model is to create a space where nobody wants to leave. … Every class is a potluck. We eat together and clay together, and those who clay together, stay together. Everyone in the classes becomes friends. It’s a true community.”

      Rosie Huntington-Whiteley/Instagram

The California native also maintains a laid-back approach when it comes to his teaching style, whether you’re a celebrity client or not.

“I give my students the space to make mistakes and actually learn. … I let everyone make a mess and feel normal and free to have fun with clay. … We genuinely don’t care how famous you are, and clay doesn’t care if you’re famous,” he notes.

But celebs certainly care about the clay, and they’re showing it with physical touch thanks to Johnston’s original hug a pot experience, which he created due to his own blunder.

“After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2004, I was working on a piece and accidentally hugged it, but I stepped away thinking it was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful,” he shares.

From there, the ceramics expert wanted to capture that same innocence in all of his work — and give others the opportunity to do the same.

      Kendall Jenner/Instagram

“The hug experience can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. … We laugh, we cry and truly feel every aspect of being alive. It can be quite the unexpected emotional roller coaster ride and people are moved in indescribable ways,” he tells ET.

“Hugs generally make people feel safe, heard, seen, and happy. It’s a very basic, but powerful human experience that everyone has had at one point. … People are hugging each other, or even themselves. The pot is just the vessel in the middle of their unique embrace,” the potter adds.

The Big Picture: Disney Movies That Need A Sequel | MarkMeets Media

Big Hero 6: A Tale of Untold Movie Potential

Big Hero 6, a heartfelt narrative revolving around family, grief, and the journey toward healing, stands as one of Disney’s beloved creations. Despite its monumental success, the absence of a theatrical sequel remains conspicuous. While the franchise expanded with two follow-up series, Big Hero 6: The Series and Baymax!, fans continue to yearn for a sequel on the big screen. Given its phenomenal storyline, widespread popularity, and commendable representation of diversity, Big Hero 6 undoubtedly merits a second cinematic installment.

Uniting Marvel and Disney: A Unique Narrative

Big Hero 6 serves as a rare amalgamation of Marvel’s comic universe and Disney’s animated storytelling prowess. The tale follows the journey of Hiro Hamada, a young genius grappling with loss, and his endearing companion Baymax, a lovable medical robot. Together with their friends, they navigate through challenges, blending science with heroism to confront adversities. Despite the film’s captivating narrative and enduring fanbase, a theatrical sequel remains elusive.

A Decade-Long Wait: The Curious Case of Big Hero 6 Sequel

Since its release almost a decade ago, speculation about a sequel to Big Hero 6 has persisted. While other Disney hits like Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph received sequels, the absence of a follow-up to Big Hero 6 is particularly striking. Although the franchise witnessed the return of characters through spin-off series, the anticipation for a theatrical sequel remains unabated. The lack of official announcements has left fans pondering over the fate of their beloved characters.

The Tease of Continuation: Rumors and Speculation

Following the release of Big Hero 6, rumors of a sequel circulated widely, fueling excitement among fans. Cast members hinted at potential sequels, igniting hopes for further adventures. However, despite the buzz surrounding the possibility of a continuation, no concrete plans materialized. The vague nature of these rumors left fans yearning for clarity regarding the franchise’s future.

Expanding the Universe: TV Series and Beyond

While a theatrical sequel remained elusive, the Big Hero 6 franchise found new avenues of exploration through television series and a Disney+ miniseries. Big Hero 6: The Series, spanning three seasons, delved into the team’s adventures at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Meanwhile, the Baymax! miniseries offered insights into Baymax’s altruistic endeavors beyond his role as Hiro’s companion. While these expansions enriched the franchise, the desire for a cinematic sequel persisted.

Advocating for a Theatrical Return: The Case for Big Hero 6 Sequel

Despite the franchise’s success in the television realm, the allure of a theatrical sequel remains undeniable. Big Hero 6’s profound narrative, coupled with its enduring popularity, warrants a cinematic continuation. The impending addition of San Fransokyo to Disneyland’s California Adventure stands as a testament to the franchise’s cultural impact. Moreover, the film’s adept handling of diversity and its promotion of scientific curiosity underscore its significance in Disney’s repertoire. As fans eagerly await further developments, the case for a theatrical sequel to Big Hero 6 grows stronger with each passing year.

In conclusion, the legacy of Big Hero 6 endures, beckoning for a sequel that can capture the essence of its beloved characters and their captivating world. As Disney continues to explore new horizons, the prospect of a cinematic return for Big Hero 6 remains tantalizing, promising audiences a continuation of the adventure they hold dear.

Other movies we hope will receive a follow-up…

Here are some additional Disney features that could be strong contenders for a sequel, similar to your argument for “Big Hero 6”:

        1. Moana (2016): This critically acclaimed film with stunning visuals and powerful music left fans craving more adventures for Moana and Maui. Exploring further Polynesia myths and challenges would be refreshing, and Moana’s journey of self-discovery could continue.

        2. Treasure Planet (2002): This underappreciated gem combined classic Treasure Island with sci-fi elements, capturing audiences with its unique aesthetic and themes of friendship and family. Fans have dreamt of seeing Jim Hawkins continue his adventures exploring space and facing new challenges.

        3. The Emperor’s New Groove (2000): This hilarious comedy with memorable characters like Kuzco and Kronk remains a cult classic. A sequel could delve deeper into their dynamic, explore Kuzco’s reign as emperor, and introduce new comedic situations.

        4. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001): This visually stunning film presented a unique world with rich mythology and intriguing characters. Exploring more of Atlantis, uncovering new mysteries, and delving further into the Atlantean culture would be fascinating.

        5. The Great Mouse Detective (1986): This Sherlock Holmes-inspired film captivated audiences with its witty dialogue and noir-infused atmosphere. A sequel could introduce new mysteries for Basil to solve, delve deeper into his relationship with Dawson, and expand on the Victorian London setting.

        6. Hercules (1997): This action-packed comedy with its lovable hero and memorable songs has a dedicated fanbase. A sequel could show Hercules navigating his newfound godhood, facing new challenges alongside Megara, and encountering other mythological figures.

        7. Tarzan (1999): This visually stunning film explored themes of belonging and identity with memorable music and characters. A sequel could showcase Tarzan’s further integration into human society, his relationship with Jane, and potential environmental challenges.

        8. Mulan (1998): This celebrated film empowers young girls with its message of bravery and self-discovery. A sequel could explore Mulan’s life after saving China, her continued contributions as a warrior, and navigating her role within family and society.

        9. Lilo & Stitch (2002): This heartwarming story of friendship and family resonated with audiences of all ages. A sequel could show Lilo and Stitch facing new challenges, encountering other “experiments,” and exploring their evolving relationship.

        10. The Princess and the Frog (2009): This beautiful return to hand-drawn animation offered a fresh take on classic fairy tales. A sequel could showcase Tiana and Naveen’s life as rulers, introduce new challenges for them to overcome, and explore their kingdom further.

FARTCOIN Up 25%, SHIB Eyes $0.00002—Dragoin Just Launched a Presale That Could 67X Early Investors

        0
FARTCOIN Up 25%, SHIB Eyes alt=

Meme coins continue to capture attention with their dramatic price movements and bold narratives. FARTCOIN’s recent 25% surge, fueled by $TRUMP coin’s endorsement, has sparked curiosity among investors, while Shiba Inu’s gradual comeback hints at renewed bullish sentiment. Despite these developments, both coins face potential volatility and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Dragoin stands out by transforming crypto investment into an immersive adventure. Its thematic presale stages, beginning with “The Fall of Valyria,” combine storytelling with financial participation, creating a unique experience that captivates both fantasy enthusiasts and crypto investors. Dragoin’s narrative-driven approach truly sets it apart from typical meme coins.

FARTCOIN’s Meteoric Rise: Peak or Prelude?

FARTCOIN has recently captured the attention of the crypto community with a notable 25% surge, outperforming established meme coins like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and Pepe. This uptick coincided with former President Trump’s endorsement of the $TRUMP coin, which rallied over 15%, suggesting a ripple effect across the meme coin sector. Currently trading at $0.50, FARTCOIN has breached multiple resistance levels, thereby entering a phase of price discovery.

FARTCOIN's Meteoric Rise: Peak or Prelude?

Furthermore, technical indicators reveal a Relative Strength Index (RSI) above 72, signaling overbought conditions, while an Average Directional Index (ADX) reading of 100 denotes an exceptionally strong trend. In addition, the Bollinger Bands indicate heightened volatility, with a 64.46% spread. As a result, investors are now contemplating whether this ascent marks the pinnacle for FARTCOIN or merely the beginning of a more extensive rally.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Price Analysis: Will the Bulls Take Over?

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is showing signs of a potential comeback after a period of consolidation. Currently trading at around $0.00001352, the recent shift in trend has sparked optimism among investors. The daily chart indicates a subtle uptrend with Heikin Ashi candles showing smaller bottom wicks, thereby suggesting reduced selling pressure.

Additionally, consecutive green candles hint at growing bullish sentiment, especially if the price remains above the crucial $0.00001300 support level. Moreover, technical indicators also paint a positive picture. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has risen to 52.23, entering bullish territory, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) has shown a bullish crossover. Consequently, this pattern historically signals potential for upward movement, raising hopes for a rally toward the resistance zone of $0.00001500.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Price Analysis: Will the Bulls Take Over?Shiba Inu (SHIB) Price Analysis: Will the Bulls Take Over?

However, maintaining momentum will be crucial. A breakout above $0.00001500 could pave the way for a surge to $0.00001800–$0.00002000, while dropping below $0.00001250 might trigger further declines. Therefore, investors are closely monitoring the next moves to assess whether the bulls will take control.

Dragoin Presale’s Immersive Journey for Crypto Enthusiasts

Dragoin ($DDGN) isn’t just about token ownership; rather, it’s an immersive adventure crafted to captivate both crypto enthusiasts and fantasy lovers alike. The presale is divided into 25 thrilling stages, each inspired by legendary events that transport investors into a world of myth and power. Notably, the journey begins with “The Fall of Valyria”, where participants navigate through fiery ruins to escape cataclysmic destruction, echoing the fall of an ancient empire.

As the presale progresses, the stages continue to impress with their thematic depth. For instance, “Aegon’s Conquest” allows users to relive the rise of the conqueror, commanding dragons to dominate the Seven Kingdoms. This sense of command and strategy resonates with investors seeking more than just financial gain—it’s about feeling part of a grand quest.

Dragoin Presale's Immersive Journey for Crypto Enthusiasts Dragoin Presale's Immersive Journey for Crypto Enthusiasts

Other stages, like “The Battle of Harrenhal”, challenge investors to survive destruction as dragonfire consumes mighty towers, while “The Rebellion of Dorne” takes them over desert landscapes, battling fierce resistance. As a result, the dramatic storytelling is woven seamlessly into the presale, making each investment feel like a step closer to glory.

Currently in Stage 1 presale at an exclusive price of $0.0000292. Early investors will witness remarkable growth with an anticipated launch price of $0.002, generating returns of over 6700%.

What truly sets Dragoin apart is not just the gaming element but the way it transforms financial participation into a narrative-driven experience. By blending blockchain technology with the epic tales of mythical dragons and fierce battles, Dragoin creates an unmatched thematic journey that keeps users engaged and motivated. Consequently, for those who value creativity and immersion in their crypto ventures, Dragoin’s presale stages offer a unique blend of storytelling and opportunity.

Dragoin’s Immersive Experience Outshines Meme Coin Hype

While FARTCOIN’s unexpected surge and Shiba Inu’s cautious comeback offer glimpses of potential, both remain heavily influenced by external factors and market sentiment. These meme coins often face challenges in maintaining long-term relevance, as their narratives lack depth and community engagement.

In contrast, Dragoin’s thematic presale journey sets it apart by blending fantasy storytelling with crypto investment. Each stage immerses users in a legendary adventure while fostering a sense of ownership and participation. Rather than just riding market waves, Dragoin builds a lasting connection through its captivating narrative, making it more than just another fleeting trend.

Why ‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic Launched a Solana Meme Coin From Behind Bars – Decrypt

        0
Why ‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic Launched a Solana Meme Coin From Behind Bars – Decrypt

Why did Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic from the viral Netflix docuseries “Tiger King,” debut a meme coin on Solana from prison earlier this week?

“I’m knee-deep in lawyer bills,” he told Decrypt in an interview, claiming the endeavor will also benefit children through donations to a nonprofit called Operation Smile.

The 62-year-old, who has lived behind bars for seven years, didn’t launch the meme coin himself. Instead, he said his lawyers helped him get “Official Tiger King” off the ground, which began trading under the ticker name EXOTIC on Monday.

Most celebrity meme coins end up as flash in the pan. Their value often hinges on people’s attention, which can fade quickly. Others end up marred by allegations of insider trading. Exotic said he’s hopeful that his token doesn’t end up becoming yet another example.

“I pray to god that they don’t rug it and ruin my reputation,” the former wildlife park owner said. “I’m hoping that people will see this is legit and it has a purpose.”

Celebrity meme coins, while nothing new, reached a boiling point last year, with names like Caitlyn Jenner, Jason Derulo, and Cardi B stepping into the space. Hailey Welch, also known as “Hawk Tuah girl,” was among those that got caught flat-footed. Her coin, dubbed HAWK, became a fiasco after it imploded. A spokesperson told Decrypt she “had zero control over it.”

EXOTIC debuted on a little-known launchpad called pumpkin.fun. The meme coin’s market cap initially surged to $900,000 but has since fallen to just over $100,000, according to the crypto data provider GeckoTerminal. It has less than 900 holders in total, per blockchain data.

The website for Exotic’s meme coin does not reference the project’s goal of contributing funds to Operation Smile. However, it does say tokens will be donated to a “foundation supporting tigers or animal health” upon his release from prison. On Friday, Exotic’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, said it had already donated $1,000 to the nonprofit.

Exotic says his lawyers got behind the idea of launching a meme coin as a way to showcase his commitment to charitable work. That’s a reason for him to be free, he said, as opposed to “sitting in here, watching people do drugs all day.”

Project Smiles and Exotic’s lawyers did not respond to requests for comment from Decrypt.

Exotic is currently being held at FMC Fort Worth, an administrative security center, according to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons He routinely uses the telephone to connect with the outside world, keeping fans up-to-date via podcasts and X Spaces.

When it comes to crypto, Exotic has been able to absorb a lot, even learning from other inmates. While familiar with key terms, his real-word experience is admittedly limited.

“There’s not a lot to do all day besides sit and talk to people who know shit,” he said. “I do a lot from here, but I don’t even know how to set up a wallet.”

In 2021, Joe Exotic was resentenced to 21 years in federal prison, per the Associated Press. He was convicted of a murder-for-hire scheme against animal welfare activist Carole Baskin, killing five tigers, selling tiger cubs, and falsifying wildlife records.

Exotic maintains his innocence, while also pressing U.S. President Donald Trump for a pardon on social media.

In 2021, an unofficial meme coin called “Tiger King Coin” was launched as well. Exotic said he was entitled to receive 1% of its supply, but never found out who was behind the project. He fears that coin may influence people’s perceptions of the one that just launched.

Operation Smile, founded in 1982, provides cleft lip and palate repair surgeries for children across the world. Exotic hopes his meme coin can ultimately help that initiative moving forward.

“People really need to invest in it,” he said. “I would like to be able to get it up there to where I can fix 500 kids’ [faces] and pay my lawyer bills.”

The live-action Disney Princess dresses, ranked

The live-action Disney Princess dresses, ranked

As Disney keeps rolling out live-action versions of its classic animated movies, costume and production designers keep facing the challenge of making attractive animated images look equally good in the real world.

Consider the Disney Princess characters: They all have iconic dresses that look gorgeous in their original animated outings (except Aladdin’s Jasmine, who rocks a pants-and-crop-top combination). In animation, these gowns are all spectacular. But how do they match up in live action?

So far, seven princesses from the official Disney Princess lineup have gotten live-action remake movies. The latest, Snow White, gives its protagonist a deeply… disappointing wardrobe, which prompted us to look back and see which remake team did and didn’t understand the assignment.

Like any good ranking, this one has a set of rules.

I only included theatrically released Disney live-action movies — sorry to the Descendants-verse and the Brandy Cinderella! I am only considering princesses from the official Disney Princess lineup. This means Jasmine makes the cut, even though she isn’t the titular character in Aladdin, but Mia Wasikowska as Alice in Tim Burton’s take on Alice in Wonderland doesn’t. Take it up with Disney! Some characters have more than one Defining Gown. I’ll be evaluating their wardrobes as a whole, in which case a passable extra outfit could make up for a terrible main dress. Or not! No sequel dresses included. Sorry, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil!

I’m also not necessarily looking for fidelity to the animated version. Sometimes that’s not a good thing (cough, Snow White, cough). The outfits should simply look good, even if they aren’t necessarily direct replicas.

In order from worst to best, here are all the live-action Disney Princesses and their wardrobes, ranked.

          7. Snow White in Snow White (2025)

          Image: Disney

Designer: Sandy Powell; Princess: Rachel Zegler

I’ve seen Halloween costumes that look better than this dress. I feel like I can tell exactly what sort of thick, foam-like material makes up the sleeves. I’m also zeroing in on the cheap vinyl stuff in the collar that’s suspended between some stiff wires. The skirt is this plastic-looking tulle monstrosity that’s a shade of yellow not even in the original animation.

Yes, the original Snow White dress does have some questionable color choices, but the live-action solution is not to crank the saturation up on the red, blue, and yellow. Snow White’s plot-relevant necklace — a gift from her father with four bland adjectives to ✨ inspire ✨ her — looks like something I could order off Etsy for $20. It’s just lazy! I don’t know where Snow White’s nearly $300 million budget went, but it certainly was not the wardrobe.

Snow’s other dresses in this movie are so briefly worn and so unremarkable that they can’t save the travesty of the main one.

          6. Belle in Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Emma Watson twirling in a yellow gown in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: Jacqueline Durran; Princess: Emma Watson

Belle’s core wardrobe isn’t terrible. The blue-and-white dress she wears in the village actually looks like a nice updated version of her animated going-to-town outfit. And her red winter cloak has some lovely embroidery. But when it comes to her big showstopping gown, the one she wears during the romantic ballroom scene — woof.

For starters, unlike her other dresses, it looks so distinctly modern. And not even in a fun, anachronistic way! I don’t give a hoot about whether or not she wore a corset, but its tiering and silhouette just looks more like late-2010s prom dress than 18th-century French ballgown.

Her finale dress is thankfully a bit better, at least in terms of the shape, but the pattern looks like a tea towel I’d find in a grandma’s kitchen.

          5. Jasmine in Aladdin (2019)

Jasmine (Naomi Scott) wearing a brightly colored turquoise outfit with peacock-feather beaded designs, with her handmaiden Dalia next to her. From Disney’s live-action Aladdin movie.

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: Michael Wilkinson; Princess: Naomi Scott

I’m a bit torn about Jasmine’s outfits, which are so gaudy and over the top, they almost feel like a parody of the original movie. But then again, the entire movie plays into that aesthetic, so her looks do cohesively fit in. The turquoise ensemble that most directly imitates her animated counterpart is the best, since the others start to encroach on discordant color clashing. They might be splashy, but at least they don’t look cheap!

They do, however, look more like they belong in the Broadway show — bright and glittery, so even audiences in the cheap seats can appreciate them. But up close, they look a little too intense.

Mulan (Liu Yifei) on a chaotic battlefield in a long-sleeved red outfit, hair flying in the wind, in the live-action Mulan

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: Bina Daigeler; Princess: Liu Yifei

For the most part, Mulan’s wardrobe is understandably utilitarian. After all, she spends most of the movie in the military, wearing an official uniform. It works! She has one other dress — the gown she wears when her family hauls her off to see the matchmaker. It’s different from the animated version, but it still serves the purpose of showing that Mulan isn’t comfortable in a fancy dress.

          3. Ariel in The Little Mermaid (2023)

Ariel (Halle Bailey) in a frothy white dress, leaning down from a carriage to pet a dog in Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: Colleen Atwood; Princess: Halle Bailey

Ariel basically gets two dresses when she’s in human form, and both of them are callbacks to her animated movie gowns, while still fitting in with the new movie’s visual aesthetic. One is the blue dress she wears while exploring the town with Eric, which in the movie looks like it’s made of a very light, breathable material that’s still super cute. It’s now a pretty seafoam green, and the beachy design feels right in line with the Caribbean-inspired setting!

The other is the pink ballgown she wears to dinner with Eric and Grimsby, the one where she uses a fork to comb her hair. Let’s be real: The original bright pink dress never really worked with Ariel’s ketchup-red hair. But the live action mutes the colors a bit, making it the softer pink of a conch shell. It’s definitely supposed to be inspired by that pink ballgown with the puffy sleeves, but it has its own distinct look, evoking seafaring pirate-y attire.

          2. Aurora in Maleficent (2014)

Aurora (Elle Fanning) in a cursed sleep, Prince Phillip leaning over her. From Maleficent.

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: Ellen Mirojnick; Princess: Elle Fanning

Maleficent is told from the point of view of Angelina Jolie’s eponymous dark fairy, but the gowns her adopted daughter Aurora wears definitely give main-character energy. They really fit the movie’s dark medieval-fantasy aesthetic, with delicate embroidery and more muted (but still gorgeous) color palettes. The blue gown she’s wearing when she pricks her finger in the castle doesn’t look like the animated version, but it has a lovely, elegant silhouette, and it works better in this context, since the character isn’t dressed up for a ball.

She ends the movie in a particularly gorgeous gold gown with some intricate floral detailing, which really hammers home the whole “child raised by fairies in a magical forest” vibe!

          1. Cinderella in Cinderella (2015)

Lily James as Cinderella in the 2015 Disney live-action movie, twirling in her gorgeous ballgown.

          Image: Disney

Costume designer: …also Sandy Powell; Princess: Lily James

I have this understandably ridiculous theory that every cent of the live-action-Disney-movie costume budget, past, future, and present, went to Cinderella, leaving nothing for any other Disney live-action redux. This has to be the case, because apparently the costume designer behind the travesty that is the 2025 Snow White is also responsible for Cinderella, and I genuinely cannot think of another explanation as to why the difference in quality between the two is so vast.

Every costume Cinderella wears — even her servant-girl outfit! — looks so ethereal. The pink dress her stepsisters destroy is beautiful, and the wedding dress she wears in the finale, with its gorgeous flower accents, is absolutely stunning.

But the pièce de résistance is her iconic ballgown. It’s clearly inspired by the animated movie, but Powell gave it an identity of its own. It looks like a watercolor painting come to life, and moves with such elegance that it’s hard not to gawk at Cinderella as she glides across the ballroom. No wonder everyone in the kingdom immediately falls in love with her, the prince included.

Perhaps Powell knew her Disney live-action remake career peaked in 2015, and she didn’t lift a finger for the 2025 Snow White? I get it. Why mess with perfection?

The collaboration between Fortnite and Mortal Kombat has brought lots of new content to the game. However, all the cosmetics we’ve had so far are just the tip of the iceberg. Epic Games has prepared other things, and they will come with the v34.21 update on Tuesday. Yes, the next big Fortnite update is on April 1!

Epic has revealed many things the update will bring, including big map changes. Furthermore, there will be a new limited-time game mode based on Mortal Kombat, as well as exclusive quests.

Mortal Kombat quests are coming to Fortnite

The upcoming update will add three new landmarks, Scorpion as an NPC, and two gameplay items. Due to this, it’s no surprise that Epic Games will release limited-time quests as well. Epic has revealed six quests that will be available starting April 1 at 9 AM Eastern Time. However, more quests will come out in the future.

These are the Mortal Kombat quests coming to Fortnite on Tuesday:

Hit 10 players with Ice Slide

Deal 500 damage to players while on the bridge at The Pit

Shatter 5 players’ Shield beyond 10 meters

Collect the First Blood Medallion in 2 different matches

Hit an opponent with both a Kombat Kit air kick and uppercut within 5 seconds

Defeat Scorpion while carrying Sub-Zero’s Kombat Kit

Each of these quests grants 30,000 XP, for a total of 180,000 for the first batch. At the moment, it’s unknown how many quests in total Epic Games will release. However, we do know that they will be progressively available, which may indicate that there will be a new quest every day.

The update will come out on Tuesday, likely at 4 AM Eastern Time, and will require both download and downtime.

Something for the Weekend – 29/03/25 | TheSixthAxis

It definitely feels like spring has sprung… again this week. It’s been nice and sunny to cut through some of the chill, there’s been a little bit of mizzle, and now the clocks are going to jump forward this week, much to the delight of cats and dogs around the country that are going to get fed an hour early tomorrow (or more realistically, on Monday).

          In the News This Week

A surprise Nintendo Direct brought some announcements for the original Switch, while we all wait for next week’s big Nintendo Switch 2 stream, but there were also some significant shifts and announcements from around the rest of the industry.

Games in Review & Featured Articles

This week saw the release of Atomfall, Rebellion’s very British post-nuclear disaster sci-fi mystery, and the anime action adventure of The First Berserker: Khazan. Both have distinct appeal, for very different reasons.

Away from the reviews, Ade gave us a little look at the tactical action coming up in Commandos: Origins, and Dom went hands on with the gorgeous turn-based RPG of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

I got my hands on with a bunch of different games as well. Steel Hunters is about to pop into Early Access, and brings plenty of fun mech battling action, while practice will make perfect in Forestrike’s martial arts brawling, and I played split-screen co-op with the upcoming Revenge of the Savage Planet.

Dom checked out a bunch of charging tech from the UGREEN x Genshin Impact branding collab, which will keep all your electronics topped up when you need them.

We’re Finishing up for the week, What We Played featured Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Atomfall and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond gets a new gameplay trailer

Pokémon Legends: Z-A gets more dangerous after dark with the Z-A Royale battles

No Man’s Sky Relics update out now

          Your Achievements

What have you been playing this week?

TSBonyman’s is jumping into Atomfall this weekend, but while twiddling thumbs through the last few days before its release, he played a ton of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and sees many more hours ahead with the game – he upgraded it to Afterbirth as well – and played a bit of The Tainted Grail : Fall of Avalon demo, which he says it “a promising Skyrim-alike old-school RPG with some janky combat but great atmosphere.”

That’s the round up for this week. Hope you have a great weekend ahead, even if it’s only 47 hours long!
