Is the Nintendo Switch 2 too expensive? | TheSixthAxis

The Nintendo Switch 2 has spun the gaming world around this week, with excitement and joy mixed in with gasps of exasperation. Why the exasperation? Well, it’s partly because of the price. The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be the most expensive Nintendo hardware of all time, coming in at £395.99/$449.99/€469.99 for the console itself, or £429.99 / $449.99 /€509.99 for a bundle with Mario Kart World.

Based on the reaction from certain parts of the internet and the wider world, it’s clear that people were hoping for it to be closer to the price of the original Switch, but there’s a variety of reasons why it’s not. In further bad news for price-sensitive gamers in the US, it might actually get worse.

As a starting point, we need to talk about inflation. Inflation, rather than just being for balloons, is an economic effect wrapped up in the tracking of increases in average prices. They look at general goods – milk, bread, etc. – and see how much they were in the same month last year, with the percentage increase setting the inflation figure for that month. Inflation in the UK is 3% while it’s 2.8% in the US, so a pint of milk costs 3% more now than it did in April last year, and that impact is felt much stronger when compared over longer periods of time.

What drives inflation? This isn’t the place for an essay on economics, but increases to wages are the main driver, as this then affects every business and service, who then put their prices up to maintain their own growth and profits. So, in basic terms for milk’s case, the farm hands’ wages increase, the delivery drivers’ wages increase, the factory workers that package the milk wages increase, and then the workers in the shop that sell the milk wages increase. The result? The price of milk goes up.

This is a long way of saying that the price of things generally goes up. Electronics have often defied that upward trend over the past few decades, but the world-changing events of the last five years has put paid to that. On a baseline level, we shouldn’t expect the Switch 2 to cost the same price as the original Switch, which launched at £279.99/$299.99/€329.99 eight years ago – £280 in 2017 is now £367, when adjusting for inflation.

On top of that, this is a wholly improved console. While we don’t know the specifics of the chipset or RAM yet, it’s clearly a much more powerful device, capable of running titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and Elden Ring, along with the addition of a larger 7.9″ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, improved Joy-Con 2, 256GB storage, new microphone and chat functionality and an impressively useful mouse mode. The Switch 2 is a natural and clear evolution of one of the most successful consoles of all time.

Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2

Alongside those technical improvements, the handheld landscape has changed in the past seven years, with the rise of Valve’s Steam Deck, and Windows portables like the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. While we can’t be sure of the Switch 2’s hardware, it seems to be more proficient than the current Steam Deck model, which starts at £349 in the UK, with a lower resolution and plainer 60Hz LCD screen, and where you’d have to then buy a separate £69 dock for TV play, and some kind of controller on top of that.

Where the Steam Deck has the clear edge is on game pricing. Steam, and PC gaming in general, has always had lower software costs, and that’s emphasised here with Nintendo making bumping up the price of their top tier games to £66.99/€79.99 for digital versions of games like Mario Kart World, while physical copies are even more expensive again at £75. Nintendo are far from the only company to have increased prices in the last few years. £70 is now the baseline for an Assassin’s Creed, an EA Sports FC, a Call of Duty, and Nintendo are loosely matching that, and Sony has been all-in on double-dipping with PS5 remasters with paid upgrades from PS4, which Nintendo is now following with their Switch 2 Editions.

Game prices languished in a £50-60 region for a long, long time, even if it often didn’t feel like that thanks to retailers like Amazon, supermarkets and others often chopping the price of games after a couple months or even a few weeks, and with deep cuts that we always eagerly await during sales. Even Game Pass and PlayStation Plus have changed the perceived value of games. We’ve been living in a golden age where you could likely afford, and gain access to, a heap of games to play – probably more than you physically have time for – but this might be another indication that it’s coming to an end.

By splitting the pricing, though, this is a clear push to get people to go digital. You can spin that as cutting out the cost of producing a physical cartridge, or note it as a shrewd way to disincentivise the second hand market.

All of this is made worse by the stagnation of wages, which, while increasing, haven’t kept in line with inflation. Fundamentally, you can afford less than you used to. Does it suck? Yes, and the increase of game pricing is a huge burden for people in this hobby, but those blaming Nintendo for all of this need to turn their attention elsewhere.

Nintendo’s business model has always been not to lose money on their consoles and that’s clearly a policy that’s worked, when other manufacturers like Sega have fallen by the wayside. The increased price for the console and its games are nonetheless a bitter pill to swallow, especially when everything else in the world is also going up, from your weekly shopping to a pint down the pub.

US gamers will soon have to think about another thing on top of all that: tariffs. Donald Trump has gone to economic war with the rest of the world, placing or increasing tariffs on imports into North America. That’s caused such a huge wave in the global economy that Nintendo have postponed Switch 2 pre-orders in that territory. The genuine outcome could be that the Switch 2, and its physical games, cost even more than the announced price, and gamers are the ones who’ll likely end up out of pocket. This will affect PlayStation, Xbox and PC gamers just as much.

So, will I be getting a Switch 2? Yes. It feels like a natural competitor to the Steam Deck, and the pricing is in line with that. Nintendo also make amazing games that you can’t play elsewhere, and while I think the price of Mario Kart World is steep, the amount of playtime I’ll get out of it with my family and friends will still make it a sound investment. I totally understand anyone who isn’t going to make that jump quite yet. It hasn’t dimmed my excitement for a system that’s been talked and hypothesised about for a long time, but for some, it makes a Switch 2 a real luxury, and as a luxury it might not be as essential as its predecessor.

Will you be nabbing a Switch 2? Or do you think the prices too high?

Terrence Howard Claims Diddy Tried To Come On To Him During Acting Lessons

“Iron Man” actor and musician Terrence Howard recently made the shocking allegation that Sean “Diddy” Combs attempted to come on to him during a private meeting they had years prior.

While appearing on the “PBD Podcast” on Friday, April 4, Howard, 56, recalled a situation with Diddy in which the “Empire” actor claimed the now-imprisoned hip-hop mogul wanted to “f-ck” him. After their alleged interaction, Howard claimed he cut off all communication with Diddy so he could protect his “man card.”

Howard Makes The Shocking Allegation That Diddy Tried To Come On To Him

During the “PBD Podcast,” Howard opened up to Patrick Bet-David about scientific theories, academia, and his departure from Hollywood.

At one point in their conversation, Howard reflected on an alleged situation he had with Diddy, who’s currently facing several criminal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering.

According to Howard, he once visited Diddy to help him with his acting skills after being “invited … for weeks.” However, Howard claimed that when the two were together, Diddy didn’t have materials to work on, and, instead, he only sat there, “looking” at Howard.

The “Best Man Holiday” actor then claimed that Diddy asked to listen to some of Howard’s music, but instead of offering feedback, Diddy allegedly stayed silent, “just sitting” there.

Howard revealed to David he was confused by Diddy’s behavior before saying his assistant alleged the “Hello Good Morning” rapper was “trying to f-ck” him.

“Now you know to be hands-off with somebody,” Howard said, adding he’s had that interaction with several producers in the past whom he’s threatened “to punch” or “knock their head off.”

He continued: “When you approach a real man about his masculinity, you’re going to get a real reaction back.”

Howard, who has starred in TV shows like “All My Children,” “Family Matters,” and, most recently, “Flight Night,” also revealed he won’t take certain roles, including any gay characters.

“I’ve lost businesses because I don’t bend over in that way. I don’t compromise. I don’t play gay roles. I don’t kiss a man. I don’t do that sh-t because the man card means everything,” he said.

Howard’s claims come 10 years after reports surfaced that Diddy banned his sons from appearing on the Fox show “Empire,” which also featured Taraji P. Henson.

“Diddy kicked up a huge stink and called all the top brass at 20th Century Fox TV to get them to change their rules over music rights,” a source told Page Six. “He said there was no way his son was signing over his intellectual property. So he banned him from the show.”

Diddy Charged With New Additional Sex Trafficking Charges In Federal Indictment

In April 2025, TheBlast reported about the two new counts of sex trafficking and transportation added to Diddy’s ongoing federal case.

Per court documents, prosecutors working the case made new claims about the rapper, including that he “recruited, enticed, harbored, transported, provided, obtained, advertised, maintained, patronized and solicited” the victims to “engage in commercial sex acts.”

The new charges come months after Diddy was first arrested and indicted on prostitution-related charges, per PEOPLE. In the documents, Diddy allegedly manipulated women into participating in “highly orchestrated performances,” also known as “freak-offs.”

According to the indictment, “freak-offs” involved male sex workers who Diddy allegedly flew to his location.

Following the new charges, Diddy’s representative shared a statement with The Blast, clarifying that the allegations were not “new.”

“These are the same individuals, former long-term girlfriends, who were involved in consensual relationships. This was their private sex life, defined by consent, not coercion,” they said.

The Rapper Claims CNN Altered Video Of Him Seemingly Assaulting His Ex-Girlfriend

      Diddy
      MEGA

Nearly a year ago, CNN released a video of Diddy seemingly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a Los Angeles hotel. The disturbing clip showcased the rapper running down the hallway after Ventura in a towel before grabbing her by the neck area and slamming her on the ground.

In court documents, Diddy’s team alleged CNN bought the only copy of the video and altered it before destroying the original footage.

“CNN purchased the only known copy of the Hotel’s surveillance footage, uploaded that footage into a free editing software, altered the video, and then destroyed the original footage, even though it knew about and repeatedly reported about the federal investigation,” the rapper’s team said in a joint letter.

They also accused the news network of “covering the time stamp and then changing the video sequence.”

“It also includes speeding up the video to make it falsely appear that the actions in the video are taking place faster than they are. As a result, the CNN videos do not fairly and accurately depict the events in question,” they finished.

3 High-Performing Crypto Picks for 2025: BlockDAG, Tether, Shiba Inu & Binance Coin

3 High-Performing Crypto Picks for 2025: BlockDAG, Tether, Shiba Inu & Binance Coin

In 2025, price surges alone don’t define the high-performing crypto. What truly stands out is a coin’s ability to show growth through adoption, technology, and lasting impact. Some tokens are gaining momentum by expanding their ecosystems, while others are securing their position through scale or reliability.

BlockDAG, Shiba Inu, and Binance Coin are some of the names catching attention from traders and analysts. Each brings a unique strength that places it among the standout-performing crypto projects this year.

      1. BlockDAG Raises $212M as It Pushes Toward $600M Target

BlockDAG (BDAG) has become one of 2025’s high-performing crypto projects thanks to its impressive progress. Its presale has raised $212 million so far, spread across 27 batches, with over 19.2 billion BDAG coins already sold. With Keynote 3 released, the project now looks firmly set on reaching its $600 million presale goal.

This latest keynote outlined important updates, including upcoming listings on centralized exchanges, the launch of its Beta Testnet, a mobile mining user base of more than 1.2 million, and a record-breaking presale—all achieved without venture capital support.

      1. BlockDAG Raises $212M as It Pushes Toward $600M Target

Priced at $0.0248, BDAG has already gained 2,380% since the start of its presale. And according to analyst forecasts, the best may still be ahead. Some predict BDAG could reach $1 by 2025, $20 by 2027, and $30 by 2030, citing its consistent development, accessibility, and strong user base. For those looking to enter a promising crypto early, BlockDAG is offering a rare opportunity before its full network goes live.

      2. Shiba Inu (SHIB) Gains Attention with Utility Expansion

Shiba Inu is currently testing strong resistance near $0.0000134. If support levels hold, technical analysis suggests a potential 20% price jump. Meanwhile, the SHIB team continues to expand its ecosystem with Shibarium—a Layer-2 chain focused on cutting transaction fees and improving speed.

The token is widely available on leading exchanges and benefits from an active token burn strategy that reduces supply over time. These factors help keep SHIB among the high-performing crypto picks of the year, especially for retail traders. Although it began as a meme coin, Shiba Inu has evolved with new infrastructure and increasing utility, keeping it relevant across social and trading platforms.

      2. Shiba Inu (SHIB) Gains Attention with Utility Expansion2. Shiba Inu (SHIB) Gains Attention with Utility Expansion

      3. Binance Coin (BNB) Holds Value Through Utility and Burns

Binance Coin (BNB) is the utility token of the Binance ecosystem, offering fee discounts, launchpad access, and other platform benefits. As of April 3, 2025, BNB is priced around $598.60, with a total market value above $85 billion.

      3. Binance Coin (BNB) Holds Value Through Utility and Burns3. Binance Coin (BNB) Holds Value Through Utility and Burns

Its deflationary model continues to draw attention. In January 2025, Binance completed its 30th burn, removing roughly 2.14 million BNB from circulation—worth about $600 million at the time. Analysts expect more token burns and ongoing platform use could lift BNB to between $900 and $1,200 before the year ends. This combination of use and supply reduction supports BNB’s standing as a high-performing crypto asset in the current cycle.

Why These Are the High-Performing Cryptos of 2025

BlockDAG, Shiba Inu, and Binance Coin each bring something different to the table—but all show why they belong among the high-performing crypto picks of 2025. Shiba Inu shows technical breakout potential near $0.0000134, largely driven by retail support. Binance Coin, trading at $598, maintains value with its utility-driven model and regular burns.

Why These Are the Best-Performing Cryptos of 2025Why These Are the Best-Performing Cryptos of 2025

Then there’s BlockDAG, which stands out as one of the most exciting early-stage opportunities in the market. With over $212 million raised, 19.2 billion coins sold, and 2,380% ROI since launch, BDAG—currently in Batch 27 and priced at $0.0248—may offer one of the most compelling value entries in 2025. With each batch, the entry point narrows, making this a key moment for those seeking long-term upside in a rapidly evolving space.

The Biggest Games Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 – Decrypt

The Biggest Games Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 – Decrypt

Nintendo fully unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 this week, and it sports a bigger LCD screen, updated Joy-Con controllers that can also be used as mice, two USB-C ports, and a better kickstand. It can also play games at 4K resolution on your TV, and 1080p at 120 frames per second on the Switch 2 itself.

Of course, none of that would even matter if there weren’t some killer games on the way. We’ll see a few big ones right at launch, with more to come later—and we’ve combed through the announcements to find the best stuff on the way.

      Mario Kart World (June 5)

The first thing that popped to mind when we saw Mario Kart World was, “Hey, it’s Forza Horizon!” Mario Kart World offers a whole bunch of tracks to race on—over 30 of them—but the big idea here is that all of these tracks are part of a unified open world. So you can go for your best time on your favorite track, but you can also spend time exploring the wide world of Mario Kart by free-roaming the map on your own or with friends.

Legend of Zelda upgrades (June 5)

These are two separate games—The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom—but we’re lumping them into one, because what makes them new is about the same for both. It’s a simple list, but it might be enough to warrant diving back in.

The Switch 2 editions of these games will feature enhanced resolution, smoother frame rates, an additional save slot, and faster load times. They’ll also support the new Zelda Notes app, which will help you navigate the world, as well as give you a community-created repository of Ultrahand contraptions to use in your own game.

Better yet, if you already own these games (you do), then you can buy an upgrade instead of having to re-buy the whole game. We wish it was free, but it’s better than having to re-purchase the whole game. However, Nintendo did confirm that the Zelda upgrades will be free if you have the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

      Donkey Kong Bananza (July 17)

Donkey Kong 64 fans: You’ve been waiting a long time, but your patience is being rewarded with Donkey Kong Bananza, an open-world 3D Donkey Kong game where you’ll be battling the mysterious VoidCo to reclaim the Golden Bananas they stole from you.

One of the most exciting features of this one is the high level of destructibility offered by the environment. With a vibe that recalls the lovely Super Mario Odyssey, this is one to look out for.

Super Mario Party Jamboree NS2 Edition (July 2025)

Super Mario Party Jamboree originally hit in 2024, and this is another example of a game getting the Switch 2 upgrade treatment. It has all of the features of the original, looking better than ever, but it’ll also add minigames to address the Nintendo Switch 2’s unique features.

If you and your friends have the optional camera, for example, then you can see a live portrait of yourself next to your character—plus there are mini-games that take advantage of the fact that the Nintendo Switch 2 controllers can act as mice.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (Q4 2025)

The latest Hyrule Warriors sequel is exactly what you’d expect: Legend of Zelda characters in the familiar hack-and-slash Dynasty Warriors formula, albeit with Tears of the Kingdom-style graphics. The game takes you back in time to before the cataclysm to a period in Hyrule’s history called the Imprisonment War, and once again lets you fight off enemies by the thousands.

      Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (2025)

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be coming to both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. If you’re playing it on Switch 2, though, you’ll get a bunch of additional features on top of finally getting a new Metroid game (Kept us waiting, huh, Nintendo?).

You can play it at 4K/60fps on your television or 1080P/120fps on your Switch 2. It also has enhanced textures and load times. The most exciting part for FPS fans, though, is that it’ll support using the mouse feature of the Switch 2 controllers.

      Drag x Drive (TBA)

This entry is designed to show off the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers in their best light. Teams of 3 players will battle on a basketball court, playing as futuristic wheelchair athletes. You’ll have to use the two controllers’ mousing functions simultaneously to keep your chair moving, and then when you’re in range, pick one of them up and gooseneck your wrist to put the ball through the hoop.

      Pokémon Legends Z-A (2025)

It’s time to head back to Lumiose City from Pokemon X and Y, but in much greater detail. For the first time, though, this series will allow you to battle as a Pokemon trainer in real time, moving around on the battlefield and deploying your Pokemon when you want.

      The Duskbloods (2026)

While Sony doesn’t seem keen on resurrecting Bloodborne anytime soon, From Software is still hungering to re-enter the world. Enter The Duskbloods, a multiplayer game exclusive to the Switch 2 from developer From Software.

A quick look at the trailer will show you what we’re talking about. This game has a Victorian horror aesthetic that definitely reminds us of Bloodborne. From Software’s Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to come out this year, and Duskbloods next—it seems like From is going big on multiplayer games right now.

      Your multiplatform faves

Alongside the great games above, there are tons of games coming to Switch that have already appeared elsewhere. If you’re one of those gamers who finds that playing a game on Switch or Steam Deck enhances the experience, you’re about to be buried in riches. Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VII, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws—these games are all coming to the Switch.

The First Berserker: Khazan: 6 Best Early Skills For Dual Wield Builds

The First Berserker: Khazan: 6 Best Early Skills For Dual Wield Builds

Jumping into a playthrough of The First Berserker: Khazan is not exactly for the faint of heart. As the latest big addition to the Soulslike party, Khazan has staked its claim already as one of the most challenging entries in the genre to date.

While the game has already received a patch to re-balance things a bit, there’s still plenty of challenge to be had with this one. Don’t be surprised if it soon becomes the latest member on the list of games that were simply too hard for most players at launch.

The First Berserker: Khazan: 10 Essential Beginner Tips

Khazan is brutal, so these tips will give you a better fighting chance.

Still, if you’re starting this journey and have found yourself drawn the most to the dual wield weapon class, there are some skills you can invest in right off the bat that will set you up for as much success early on as possible.

Here are the six dual wield build skills you should save up for right away in The First Berserker: Khazan. Pair this info with some additional early game tips and tricks, and you might soon find your way to victory. Maybe.

      6 Reflection

Blocks Are Good, Parries Are Better

      The First Berserker Khazan Reflection

From the start of Khazan, it will become abundantly clear that negating enemy damage via the block mechanic is crucial for survival. This system works well enough, but you can make this action even more useful with the purchase of the Reflection skill, found in the Common tab of the skill tree.

This adds an actual parry to Khazan’s repertoire, which is certainly harder to get the hang of than a regular block, but worth the effort once you figure it out and adapt.

Not only does this move prevent you from taking attack damage, but it also drains a nice chunk of stamina from your enemy, getting them closer to becoming fully exhausted, giving you have a window for a few free shots once they fully deplete their energy.

Like in most games, not every single attack in Khazan can be successfully parried, so you will still have to learn the proper times to put this skill into action.

      5 Whirlwind

      Path Of Destruction

      The First Berserker Khazan Whirlwind

Adding a diverse offensive moveset to your arsenal as a dual wield user is never a bad idea. In general, dual wield builds will be a little uncomfortably close-ranged, so whatever you can do to make combat more likely to go your way can make a big difference.

One skill you should consider adding early for this purpose is Whirlwind, an attack that spins Khazan into the air with the additional option to twirl quickly back down to earth for a particularly devastating and immediate combo.

      Related

How to Farm Lacrima of Circulation in The First Berserker: Khazan

This guide covers the best way to farm Lacrima of Circulation in The First Berserker: Khazan.

This skill is triggered by your potent blow button and chains directly into a combo you’re already in the middle of doing if you’re swinging away with swift attacks, making it an easy, powerful move to throw in to really pummel an enemy into the ground.

There are other heavy combos you can earn later that will ultimately be more useful, but Whirlwind is still a great option to grab early before other moves unlock.

      4 Outrage

      The Distance Closer

      The First Berserker Khazan Outrage

Often times throughout Khazan (and especially as a dual wielder), you’ll simply feel too far away from enemies as you approach them, or after you’ve dodged away from danger.

Timing is absolutely everything in this game, and sometimes you simply can’t waste an open window to get an attack in before your enemy regroups and gets back on the offensive.

This is especially true for the game’s intense boss fights, as you’ll often find yourself panic dodging away from danger, then simply being too far from the action to inflict an damage.

The Blade Phantom boss fight in particular will punish you repeatedly if you’re not keeping yourself within range to strike whenever you can.

Outrage is the best early counter for this exact issue. This one allows you to sprint full speed at an enemy, then launch immediately into an extra-powerful, distance-closing potent attack with the press of a single button.

      3 Blazing Assault

Would You Like That As A Combo?

The First Berserker Khazan Blazing Assault

Blazing Assault is unloackable immediately after gaining access to the skill tree, and you’d be remiss to not heavily consider it as your first purchase.

By default, the dual wield weapon type will allow for four consecutive swift attacks before placing an automatic break in your attack pattern. This combo reset can spell disaster when misplaced, and can also end an opportunity to burn an enemy’s HP down to zero before they even have a chance to react.

Blazing Assault is pretty straightforward, simply adding a fifth swift attack that you can now do in one, single attack combo. If you’re spam attacking an enemy and trying to defeat them as quickly as possible, this extra fifth move can be all the difference you really need.

What’s nice about this one too is that it doesn’t require any additional button combination to pull off. It’s just an inherent skill that Khazan will be capable of from this point forward, making it an easy one to quickly turn the tide of any encounter.

      2 Dragon Slayer

      Say Drake

The First Berserker Khazan Dragon Slayer

Dragon Slayer is one more example of a dual wield ability that can quickly close the distance for you in a fight. As a dual wielder, you automatically have the least range of any weapon class in the entire game.

This trade-off, of course, comes with benefits as well, like the fact that your moveset is also the fastest of the group, but the fact remains that you’re going to be way more up close and personal with enemies much more frequently than anyone that mains a different weapon type.

      Related

10 Best AA Soulslikes You Need To Play

      Mid-tier budgets, top-tier punishment

Dragon Slayer specifically relates to your heavy attack. Now, instead of charging a heavy and praying that your opponent doesn’t either move out of your attack range or counter you with an attack of their own before yours is fully charged, you can keep a bit more of a safety buffer as you power up a strike.

Your fully charged potent attack is now equipped with a forward dash, allowing Khazan to immediately close some precious ground before swinging away with a nice smash.

      1 Blowback

The Best Offense Is A Good Defense

      The First Berserker Khazan Blowback

As previously mentioned, The First Berserker: Khazan is a title where you’re going to spend a lot of time blocking and guarding. Because of this, any skill you can pickup that makes your guard capabilities stronger is an easy win, and absolutely something you should consider investing in.

If you time a block precisely as an enemy strikes lands, it becomes a brink guard, which just means that you timed the move perfectly, and it won’t drain as much stamina from you as a nice, additional perk.

Blowback makes a brink guard even better, dealing a small amount of damage to your attacker whenever you block at just the right moment. This can be repeated several times during a single enemy attack combo.

Yeah, the damage you inflict from this skill isn’t substantial, but if you’re going to be guarding against attacks all the time anyway, this extra chip damage will absolutely stack up and give you better odds of victory every single time.

How Web3 is Disrupting Traditional Forex Trading

        0
How Web3 is Disrupting Traditional Forex Trading

Forex trading, or the foreign exchange market, has long been a lucrative avenue for individuals and institutions to trade currencies. Traditionally, forex trading has been dominated by centralized institutions like banks, brokers, and exchanges, acting as intermediaries between buyers and sellers. These institutions facilitate trades, ensure liquidity, and enforce security protocols, but they also come with certain limitations. The rise of Web3 technology, powered by blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi), is beginning to disrupt this traditional system. Web3 promises to create a more open, secure, and efficient forex trading ecosystem by eliminating intermediaries, reducing costs, and offering greater transparency and control to traders.

In this article, we will explore how Web3 is transforming the world of forex trading, the benefits it brings, and the challenges it faces in disrupting the established system.

Understanding Web3 and Its Core Principles

Before diving into the ways Web3 is disrupting forex trading, it’s essential to understand what Web3 is and how it differs from the current internet (Web2). Web3 refers to a decentralized internet built on blockchain technology, where users have control over their data and digital assets. Unlike the traditional internet (Web2), where data is stored on centralized servers controlled by corporations, Web3 uses decentralized networks to allow peer-to-peer transactions without intermediaries. This opens up new opportunities for traders, especially those involved in cryptocurrency trading, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others.

        Key features of Web3 include:

Decentralization: Control and data are distributed across multiple nodes, ensuring that no single entity holds complete power.

Smart Contracts: Self-executing contracts that automatically execute when certain conditions are met, removing the need for intermediaries.

Tokenization: Assets, including currencies, commodities, and stocks, are tokenized on the blockchain, enabling fractional ownership and seamless transfer.

Security and Privacy: Blockchain’s inherent security features ensure data integrity and privacy, reducing the risks of hacks and fraud.

Web3 is not just a technological shift; it represents a philosophical change towards a more user-centric internet that prioritizes ownership, transparency, and fairness.

The Challenges of Traditional Forex Trading

To appreciate the disruption Web3 brings, it’s crucial to first understand the challenges and limitations of the traditional forex trading system.

Centralized Control: Traditional forex trading platforms rely on brokers, banks, and centralized exchanges. These intermediaries control the flow of information and are often the gatekeepers of the market. As a result, traders are forced to trust these entities to execute their trades fairly. This creates a single point of failure, leaving traders vulnerable to hacks, fraud, or market manipulation by those in control.

Lack of Transparency: Centralized brokers and exchanges often operate as “black boxes,” where traders have limited insight into how trades are executed or how pricing is determined. Market manipulation, slippage, and hidden fees are common complaints from forex traders who do not fully understand the forces at play behind the scenes.

High Transaction Costs: In traditional forex trading, brokers and financial institutions charge transaction fees, spreads, commissions, and other hidden costs. These fees, although seemingly small, can add up significantly, especially for high-frequency traders. These costs reduce the overall profitability for traders, especially when margin trading is involved.

Geographical Restrictions and Accessibility: Many forex brokers impose geographical restrictions based on regulations or licensing requirements. This can limit access to traders from certain regions, preventing them from participating in global markets. Additionally, traditional platforms often require a minimum deposit that may be prohibitive for small retail traders.

Slow Settlement Times: In the traditional forex market, settlements can take up to two business days to complete. This delay can be frustrating for traders, especially those looking for quick profits or engaged in short-term trading strategies.

        Web3: Revolutionizing Forex Trading

According to CompaForexBrokers.co.za, Web3 is revolutionizing the forex trading landscape by removing intermediaries, increasing transparency, reducing transaction costs, and strengthening security. In this article, we will delve deeper into how Web3 is fundamentally reshaping the way forex trading operates, bringing about significant changes to traditional practices.

        1. Decentralization and Peer-to-Peer Trading

One of the most significant advantages Web3 brings to forex trading is decentralization. Traditional forex platforms are centralized and rely on brokers and exchanges to facilitate transactions. However, Web3 enables peer-to-peer (P2P) trading, where users can trade directly with one another without the need for intermediaries. This removes the need for brokers and banks to match buyers and sellers, ensuring a more direct, transparent, and cost-effective trading experience.

Web3-powered decentralized exchanges (DEXs) use blockchain technology to facilitate these trades, enabling trustless transactions. Every trade is recorded on the blockchain, creating an immutable and transparent record of transactions. This ensures that all market participants have access to the same information, reducing the likelihood of market manipulation and providing an equal playing field for all traders.

        2. Transparency and Smart Contracts

Transparency is a major issue in traditional forex trading. Many traders feel that the lack of insight into order execution and pricing leaves them at a disadvantage. Web3 addresses this issue by leveraging blockchain’s transparent ledger, which makes all transactions public and accessible. Traders can independently verify the details of each trade, including price, volume, and execution time, allowing for greater trust in the system.

In addition to transparency, Web3 also uses smart contracts, self-executing contracts that automatically fulfill predefined conditions without the need for intermediaries. For example, a forex trade could be executed automatically when certain price conditions are met, removing the need for a broker or exchange to facilitate the transaction. Smart contracts increase efficiency, reduce human error, and ensure that all parties comply with the agreed terms.

        3. Lower Transaction Costs

Web3-powered platforms significantly reduce the costs associated with traditional forex trading. Centralized brokers and exchanges charge transaction fees, spreads, and commissions, which can eat into traders’ profits. With Web3, these costs are minimized or eliminated because there is no need for a middleman to facilitate the trade. Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) typically charge lower fees for transactions, and with smart contracts executing trades automatically, the need for manual intervention is reduced, further cutting costs.

For example, in the case of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Web3 allows traders to bypass traditional payment processing networks, which can impose high fees and delays. This makes it possible to execute trades with lower fees and faster settlement times, which is particularly advantageous for high-frequency and short-term traders. Additionally, Web3-based platforms can incorporate bitcoin predictions, offering traders more accurate insights into price movements and helping them make informed decisions based on advanced algorithms and real-time data.

        4. Security and Reduced Counterparty Risk

One of the most significant risks in traditional forex trading is counterparty risk. Traders must trust brokers and exchanges to execute trades fairly and securely. However, the centralized nature of these platforms exposes traders to the risk of fraud, hacking, or insolvency if the broker or exchange fails. In contrast, Web3 eliminates this counterparty risk by using decentralized platforms that do not require traders to trust a central authority.

Web3 platforms use blockchain technology to store transaction data in a secure, tamper-proof ledger, ensuring that all trades are executed safely. Additionally, with non-custodial wallets, traders retain full control over their funds and are not required to deposit money into an exchange. This significantly reduces the risk of losing funds due to a platform’s failure.

        5. Access to Global Markets

Web3 also offers global accessibility, making forex markets available to a wider range of participants. Traditional forex brokers often impose geographical restrictions, meaning traders in certain countries may not be able to access the same trading platforms as those in more financially developed regions. With Web3, anyone with an internet connection can access decentralized forex platforms, breaking down geographical barriers.

Moreover, Web3 allows traders to engage with digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins, which can be used for cross-border transactions in real-time. By tokenizing currencies and integrating them into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, Web3 enables instant, global forex trading without relying on traditional payment systems or intermediaries.

Bitcoin and Web3: A Perfect Pairing for Forex Trading

Bitcoin, the original cryptocurrency, has long been seen as an alternative to traditional fiat currencies. Its decentralized nature and ability to facilitate cross-border transactions make it an ideal candidate for integration into the Web3-powered forex ecosystem. As Web3 grows, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are becoming increasingly important in global forex markets.

In a Web3-powered forex market, Bitcoin can be traded alongside traditional fiat currencies and tokenized assets, allowing traders to diversify their portfolios and gain exposure to both traditional and digital currencies. The use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on decentralized platforms is already gaining traction, and this trend is expected to grow as Web3 technology becomes more mainstream.

        Challenges and the Road Ahead

While Web3 offers numerous benefits to forex traders, challenges remain. Regulatory uncertainty is one of the biggest obstacles to widespread adoption, as many countries are still figuring out how to regulate decentralized platforms and cryptocurrencies. Additionally, the Web3 ecosystem is still in its early stages, and further development is needed to improve scalability, user experience, and security.

Despite these challenges, the future of Web3 in forex trading looks promising. As the technology matures and regulatory clarity emerges, Web3 is poised to reshape the forex trading landscape, offering more transparency, lower costs, and greater security to traders worldwide.

        Conclusion

Web3 is poised to disrupt traditional forex trading by offering a decentralized, transparent, and cost-efficient alternative to centralized platforms. By eliminating intermediaries, increasing security, and reducing transaction costs, Web3 enables traders to access global forex markets in a more democratic and user-friendly way. With the integration of digital assets like Bitcoin into Web3-powered platforms, the future of forex trading looks set to evolve into a more inclusive and innovative space. Although challenges remain, the potential for Web3 to reshape forex trading is undeniable, and its adoption will likely continue to grow in the coming years.
