EA Sports FC 25 claimed the top spot on Newzoo’s overall revenue charts for September 2024, demonstrating strong performance across all individual consoles. The game made a remarkable debut, landing within the top three across multiple platforms, showcasing EA’s dominance in the sports gaming genre.

Trailing closely behind were NBA 2K25 and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, taking second and third place, respectively. Notably, Star Wars: Outlaws climbed three positions to No.6, propelled by its launch on Steam on September 19. Meanwhile, on the individual platform charts, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 led on PC, NBA 2K25 reigned on Xbox, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom claimed the top spot on the Nintendo Switch, also landing at No.5 on the overall revenue list.

The month saw shifts not only in revenue but also in player engagement. EA Sports FC 25 made an impressive debut in the monthly active users (MAU) rankings at No.9, causing EA Sports College Football to slip one position. Meanwhile, God of War: Ragnarok experienced a resurgence, reaching its highest MAU count since December 2023 after its PC release, climbing to No.25.

Significant Position Shifts Across Platforms

Several notable engagement changes occurred across different consoles. EA Sports Madden NFL achieved a meteoric rise on the Xbox charts, surging from No.440 to No.15, signaling renewed interest in the title. Similarly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 saw a major resurgence on PlayStation, jumping from No.184 to No.18, driven by increased interest of the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

In contrast, Black Myth: Wukong, which led the revenue charts in August, slipped dramatically to No.13, possibly impacted by new high-profile releases. On the engagement side, long-time favorites like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox maintained their grip on the top spots, showcasing the enduring popularity of live-service games.

Revenue Chart Trends for September

The rankings reveal some interesting shifts compared to the previous month. Fortnite fell from No.2 to No.4, as newer releases dominated September. Meanwhile, God of War: Ragnarok shot up from No.91 to No.8, reflecting the success of its PC launch. Other titles, such as World of Warcraft and Valorant, saw slight drops in revenue rankings but remain within the top 20, highlighting their steady performance in competitive and MMO genres.

The Monthly active users charts show similar consistency, with Fortnite holding onto the No.1 spot. Noteworthy entrants include EA Sports FC 25 and NBA 2K25, both debuting in the engagement charts, signaling that these sports titles not only generate revenue but also maintain high player involvement.

These shifts in the charts underscore the impact of major game launches, seasonal events, and cross-platform releases, all of which are shaping the competitive landscape going into the holiday season.     Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has taken a step back from the show and won’t perform on Saturday night (November 2), it’s been announced.

    Amy was hospitalised after an ambulance was called on Saturday night (October 26). The star is said to have collapsed backstage, minutes after the live show went off air.

    Earlier on in the night, Amy was seen dancing her Halloween-themed foxtrot with partner JB Gill. Now, amid much speculation, the BBC has shared an update on Amy and her position on the show.

    Strictly news: Amy Dowden to miss Saturday’s show

    Amy and JB had been due to dance their couple’s choice this weekend. However, following her hospitalisation, Amy will now miss Saturday night’s show. Instead, JB will dance with Lauren Oakley, who’ll replace Amy as she recovers.

    The news was announced on It Takes Two tonight. Host Fleur East said: “Before we crack on with the show we have an official update on Amy, who wasn’t in last night’s results show.”

    Fleur then added: “Sending you lots of love Amy, hope to see you soon.”

    Meanwhile, a Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson also released a statement. It read: “Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better and the Strictly family send her love and wish her well.”

    It then added: “She is delighted that fellow professional dancer, Lauren Oakley, is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s Couple’s Choice dance.”

    The statement ended with an update about Amy’s future on the show. It read: “We are all hopeful that Amy will be back to dance with JB next week.”

    News broke on Sunday afternoon that Amy had been rushed to hospital after the Strictly live show.

    An ambulance attended the scene, with the fire brigade also being called to assist in getting the pro dancer to hospital.

    The health issue that caused Amy to be rushed to hospital hasn’t been revealed.

    Earlier this year, the star announced she was cancer-free following a breast cancer diagnosis. She has also been candid about her battle with Crohn’s disease.

    Christine Perry presenting at 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Emerging Metaverse (ISEMV)We are excited to announce the publication of “Interoperability is a Fundamental Requirement for the Open Metaverse,” in the proceedings of the 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Emerging Metaverse (ISEMV) held in conjunction with this year’s IEEE Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR).

    The paper defines technological interoperability and makes the case that an open and inclusive metaverse must prioritize interoperability in order to integrate with past, present, and future IT components. The paper advocates for collaboration within and across industries to create standards that enable innovation and integration at scale.

    In the paper, Forum board member Christine Perey explores how the rapid evolution of metaverse technologies hinges on the ability to connect and integrate diverse systems at scale. Risks posed by siloed, proprietary platforms include fragmentation and barriers to innovation. Without interoperability, developers and customers will suffer from “lock in” and be unable to easily choose and personalize their user experiences. Perey outlines three zones where the Forum’s members are advancing the development of interoperability but stresses that there are many more requirements that will need similar investment for success. By identifying requirements in Forum working groups, members are helping Standards Development Organizations to prioritize their metaverse standardization efforts. These efforts are crucial in enabling the full potential of immersive experiences and digital interactions.

    By bringing together over 2,600 members, including technology providers, developers, and standards organizations, the Metaverse Standards Forum acts as a hub for pre-standardization discussions, the development of interoperability frameworks, and the promotion of existing and emerging standards. Its working groups are tackling vital areas such as 3D asset interoperability, real/virtual world integration, and identity management, ensuring that the foundational building blocks of the Metaverse are open and interoperable across platforms. This work paves the way for a more inclusive, scalable, and innovative Metaverse.

      Stylish sisters! The Pitman Sisters, Hasley, 26, Hope, 21, and Halle, 19, are known for sharing dance, beauty, and style content with their 3 million followers across social media, and now, the Florida-born trio is spilling their fashion tips with ET. 

      While the three are quick to swap style secrets, they each make sure to put a personal touch on their wardrobe choices.

      “My style is definitely more minimal, western-inspired and sporty, but I also love a fun statement piece. I think I gravitate to more traditional or timeless looks and my sisters are definitely quicker to take a fun fashion risk,” Hasley explained.

      “I usually stick to the essentials and try to add a funky twist or a vintage piece. I always prioritize what I feel comfortable and good in. I’d say I’m more laid-back than my sisters, but I tend to be a blend of Hasley and Halle,” Hope noted.

      “I would describe my personal style as clothes I can usually dance or move around in, while always trying to tap into what makes me feel the most confident. … I tend to enjoy street style and more boho chic looks,” Halle explained.

      And if they’re ever in a fashion bind, the sisters look to past and present trends for outfit inspiration. 

      “I love looking at ’90s fashion and finding influence from icons such as Princess Diana,” Hasley shared.

      “I enjoy diving into styling choices and looks from the seventies. My mom is also someone who I can always take fashion inspiration from,” Halle said.

      “I follow a lot of fashion accounts and love looking at runway shows, but street style is where I get most of my ideas. I love watching how people mix and match,” Hope shared. 

      As for what they can’t wait to wear as the weather cools down?

      “I am loving all the brown, and maroon tones, as well as the suede,” Hasley dished.

      “Layering and accessorizing are two ways I love to elevate my style in the fall,” Halle told ET.

      “I love throwing on jackets and sweaters over any outfit, but I really want to start playing around with more scarves and hats,” Hope spilled.

        Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper has revealed how he achieved his impressive weight loss.

        Kaleb is a star on Jeremy Clarkson‘s hit Amazon Prime show, Clarkson’s Farm. It follows the pair as they work on Diddly Squat Farm.

        Kaleb has become a firm favourite with viewers, with many wanting to keep up with his personal life. Now, in a new interview, Kaleb has opened up about his weight loss.

        It comes after Jeremy suffered a health scare, which resulted in him having to have heart surgery.

        Chatting to The Sun, Kaleb, 26, said he’s on a sugar-free diet. He said: “I’m on a no-sugar thing, and it’s all because I had this dream. I did and didn’t understand the dream, but I knew I had to quit sugar.

        I’m on a no-sugar thing, and it’s all because I had this dream.

        “I went to tell Taya [his ­partner] and she thought I wouldn’t do it. I’m four weeks in now, and I’ve lost six kilos, which is pretty good.”

        He added: “I do have the odd cheat day, but only sugars that naturally occur.”

        Kaleb also shared a health update on Jeremy following his heart surgery. He said the former Top Gear host is “doing all right” as he branded him a “fighter” and “strong man”.

        Earlier this month, Jeremy, 64, opened up about his health scare. The TV star said he went to hospital after suffering symptoms following a swim on holiday.

        Jeremy said he felt “clammy”, had a “tightness in my chest” and “pins and needles in my left arm”.

        Writing for The Sunday Times, he said he had to “take a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly” when he stood up.

        Jeremy said he also struggled to climb a flight of stairs “without holding someone’s hand”.

        He explained: “Back at home, though, the sudden deterioration began to gather pace. I woke on Wednesday morning not feeling too good. I was clammy and there was a tightness in my chest.”

        After going to hospital, Jeremy said: “It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.”

        The review embargo for Dragon Age: The Veilguard is reported to lift today, ahead of the game’s release on October 31st. However, one website has accidentally broken the embargo, giving us a small glimpse of what to expected.

        Noisy Pixel presumably got a little too excited and posted their review early. While it has now been taken down, it also appeared briefly on OpenCritic.

        While I didn’t manage to peruse the full review before it was hastily taken down, a quote from it did appear on Opencritic, along with the score of 8.5 out of 10.

        “Dragon Age: The Veilguard may have hit a few big stumbles along its path to release, but ultimately manages to deliver an innovative and fully-realized take on the series’ world, exploration, and combat. “read the quote. “The role-playing aspect has taken a minor hit in the process, but the game still boasts one of the best casts its studio has ever created, an engaging plot, and answers to many long-held questions, in addition to the best battle system in BioWare history.”

        Dragon Age: The Veilguard has proven slightly divisive since it was officially revealed. The initial trailer’s tone caught fans off guard with how different it seemed to paint the new game compared to the grittier style of the previous titles. But gameplay released later on seemed to ease at least some of the doubt. That said, there is still a notable presence online rooting for the game’s failure. Despite that, it’s currently the number one pre-ordered game on PlayStation, indicating that people are at somewhat excited for it.

        Of course, it’s rarely ever a good idea to pre-order a game, chums. Best keep your money firmly in your wallet until you can get some idea of a game’s state at launch.

          At the dawn of the 1980s, Warner Bros. had two major in-house artists who could do just about anything they wanted. One was a movie star, the other a filmmaking genius, and they couldn’t have been more different in aesthetic or temperament.

          Clint Eastwood was a television star who found big-screen success by making Spaghetti Westerns in Europe with an upstart named Sergio Leone before becoming the avatar of the angry, Miranda rights-burdened American police officer as “Dirty Harry.” Stanley Kubrick was a Bronx born-and-bred autodidact who found his love for filmmaking via photography; after a string of critical successes with “Paths of Glory,” “Loilita” and “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” he was hailed as a visionary for the groundbreaking “2001: A Space Odyssey,” upon which he became renowned for his perfectionism and technical boundary pushing.

          We like to play the “what if” game with legendary director and actor pairings around here, but there is almost certainly not an alternate universe where Eastwood and Kubrick hooked up. Unlike Kubrick, Eastwood liked to work quickly, shooting very few takes and moving on, whereas the meticulous auteur could shoot over 100 takes to get whatever it is he thought he needed. These fellas were not simpatico.

          So it’s no surprise Clint Eastwood hated “The Shining,” and didn’t mind saying so on record.

          Eastwood did not consider The Shining a masterpiece of modern horror

          In a conversation reprinted in “Conversations with Clint: Paul Nelson’s Lost Interviews with Clint Eastwood, 1979-1983,” Eastwood tore into Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Shining” — and while you might vehemently disagree with the man, you at least have to admit he was entertainingly wrong.

          Here’s Clint letting ‘er rip:

          “I was joking the other day because Kubrick had put that byline on the movie poster: ‘A masterpiece of modern horror.’ Even some of the execs at the studio said, ‘Stanley, maybe you better wait and let some reviewer stick that byline on the film, because it might be considered a little forward of you to do it.’ Evidently that got overruled and he just went ahead and did it. We were talking about ads for ‘Any Which Way You Can.’ I said, “Well, maybe we should call it ‘a masterpiece in modern comedy and adventure.'”

          Eastwood went on to share his experience of watching the movie on the WB lot, where it went over like a lead zeppelin, primarily because no one found it scary. As Eastwood noted, “If it had been a new director, they would’ve bombed it right out of the building.” How anyone could find “The Shining” anything less than viscerally and psychologically terrifying (the film really does a number on the human body) is beyond me, but Eastwood was adamant that the film, in his view, stunk on ice. “It was just a giant failure. The greatest example in the picture is that there just wasn’t anything at all terrifying about it. That ax scene, coming in with the ax to hit Scat [Crothers], it’s dead as a d***.”

          Kubrick never responded to Eastwood’s criticism, nor did he address Stephen King’s displeasure with his adaptation. Why bother? He could always call up his pal Steven Spielberg, who was so obsessed with the film he watched it 25 times after it came out (and later inserted it into “Ready Player One”). And Eastwood could content himself in that “Any Which Way You Can” was the fifth highest grossing film of 1980, outpacing “The Shining” by $26 million at the U.S. box office. One way or another, everybody won.

          It seems there’s been some confusion on who can play the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds beta test, and Capcom is here to set the record straight.


          The issue with so many developers doing public beta tests for their games these days, is that they all do things differently – sometimes they’re open, sometimes they’re closed, sign-ups work differently from place to place, flowery complicated language makes it unclear who can even take part in them. It’s a bit of a ball ache to be honest, and clearly Capcom hasn’t done a good enough job at making it clear who can partake in the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds beta test, as the developer has taken to the series’ official Twitter account to clear up just who can partake in it – and to be clear, it’s everyone and anyone!

          “Hunters, we’ve seen some comments wondering if you need to have pre-ordered Monster Hunter Wilds to access the Open Beta Test,” reads the post on Twitter. “The answer is no, no pre-order is needed to play,” the account clarifies, before cheekily noting that “if you’d like to pre-order after playing the Open Beta Test, that’d be cool!” Part of the confusion probably came from the fact that PlayStation 5 PlayStation Plus players are getting to play it a couple of days before other platforms, but it’s good to have it made a bit clearer. That’ll obviously be quite welcome news to those of you hoping to try it out before pre-ordering the game, too.


          Our own Dom got to try the game out at Gamescom earlier this year, coming away from it excited and curious for more, writing, “TL;DR? Monster Hunter Wilds is good. The combat feels scrappier and more in-your-face than ever before, with more tools at your disposal to mess up your prey and more control in your hands to make you feel like a true superhero with your weapon once you’ve got your movement and strings down. This is seriously going to be something special, and I cannot wait to play more.”
