Speculation Swirls of Hedi Slimane Heading to Chanel as Michael Rider Replaces Him at Celine

Speculation Swirls of Hedi Slimane Heading to Chanel as Michael Rider Replaces Him at Celine

Fashion thrives on change, and behind these status-quo-challenging shakeups often lie designers. Gabrielle Chanel’s singular vision to liberate women from restrictive clothing spurred the immense success of her label, Chanel, and then there’s Daniel Lee, whose tenure at Bottega Veneta saw fringed skirts and the inception of celebrity-favourite It-bags like the Jodie, which ushered in a new era of youthfulness at the historic Italian label.

This undercurrent of change is more relevant than ever in 2024, considering the reshuffling of personnel at fashion’s top jobs. With this typically comes a drastic switch in the aesthetic sensibilities of the brand—think Sabato De Sarno’s understated take at Gucci compared to Alessandro Michele’s tendency toward romantic excess, an approach he’s already bringing to Valentino.

As of August this year, we’ve seen creative directors like Peter Hawkings and Dries Van Noten unexpectedly bowing out at their respective houses without announcing a successor. Van Noten, in particular, embraces the possibility of his replacement veering away from the codes he’s established over 38 years at his eponymous brand. “No, I absolutely don’t want them to do it the way that I do,” the member of the Antwerp Six told Business of Fashion’s Tim Blanks in an interview, explaining that he’d prefer them to approach his brand with a “new eye”.

Chanel and Givenchy have faced the same situation since Virginie Viard and Matthew M. Williams left their posts at the respective fashion houses. In the case of such industry power players, speculation amongst fashion insiders about Viard and Williams’s potential successors are understandably rife.

For one, there were reports by the likes of Fashionnetwork on John Galliano’s rumoured decision to leave Maison Margiela for Fendi or Chanel—or even to make a return at Dior—although Maison Margiela has not confirmed this. Amongst the three labels, though, Fendi has been highlighted as the most likely destination for Galliano if he were to be tapped for another brand, considering his past controversies.

Notably, Maison Margiela is missing from the roster of upcoming presentations for Spring/Summer 2025, though an event will be staged by the house in late September.

In other news, Celine’s Hedi Slimane—known for his distinctive svelte silhouettes and references to the rock’n’roll genre—is speculated to be in the running for Chanel’s top position once again by major publications like W and Highsnobiety. He had previously faced similar rumours when he left Saint Laurent in 2016.

But Galliano and Slimane are not the only creative directors being watched closely—so is Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson, who has been said by multiple sources on the internet to leave Loewe for Gucci. This, like many others on this list, has not been officially confirmed.

Over at other fashion houses, the future seems a tad more certain with new creative directors already in place. See the latest on the confirmed changes in creative directors at each brand ahead.

Michael Rider Is The New Creative Director Of Celine

Hedi Slimane’s successor has been named: Michael Rider is the new artistic director of Celine. From early 2025, he will helm the French fashion brand’s womenswear, menswear, leather good, accessories, and couture.

Rider was most recently the creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren. But Philophiles may know him as the design director of Celine during Phoebe Philo’s tenure. He served that role for 10 years. Before that, he worked alongside Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga.

“Celine is a maison with values very close to my heart and a beautiful heritage to build on,” said Rider in a statement. “I am honoured to come back and shape the future of the maison together with the Celine team.”

Hedi Slimane is saying goodbye to Celine. The news was announced in a statement by LVMH, which owns the French fashion brand. Slimane became the artistic, creative and image director of Celine in February 2018.

“Under his creative and artistic direction, Celine has experienced exceptional growth and established itself as an iconic French couture house,” said LVMH in its statement while Celine noted in a statement “Under his creative and artistic direction, Celine has experienced exceptional growth and established itself as an iconic French couture house”.

“The holistic vision of Hedi Slimane, his exigence and rigor have made it possible to redefine the codes of Celine whilst reaffirming its feminine and Parisian roots. He has also remarkably enriched new territories for the maison such as the men’s silhouette, couture and haute parfumerie. The extraordinary journey taken together over the last seven years has made Celine a house with a formidable foundation for the future.”

There are no news yet on where Slimane is headed next. The fashion designer previously made his mark at the helms of Saint Laurent and Dior Homme. At Paris Fashion Week, Slimane unveiled Celine’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which included tweed ensembles. The collection has led some fashion insiders to speculate that Slimane may be headed to Chanel, which is yet to announce its creative director.

Sarah Burton Is Givenchy’s New Creative Director

September 2024: Sarah Burton is the new creative director of Givenchy (Photo: Givenchy)

One of the biggest announcements coming out of New York Fashion Week? Sarah Burton is the new creative director of Givenchy. Burton succeeds Matthew M. Williams, who exited the French luxury fashion house in January 2024.Burton is the former creative director of Alexander McQueen, and the longtime right-hand woman of the brand’s late founder, Lee McQueen. During her tenure at Alexander McQueen, which she helmed from 2010 to 2023, she designed the royal wedding dress for Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. The British designer was also awarded an OBE for her services to British fashion.

Burton will present her first collection for Givenchy during Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. She will oversee both women’s and men’s collections.“It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel,” Burton told WWD. “I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs.”

Haider Ackermann Replaces Peter Hawkings At Tom Ford

September 2024: Haider Ackermann is the new creative director of Tom Ford (Photo: Tom Ford)

Haider Ackermann is the new creative director of Tom Ford. He replaces Peter Hawkings, who led the American luxury label for one year and departed in July 2024.“It is with tremendous pride that I will seek to honour the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have long admired and have the utmost respect for,” says Ackermann, who previously helmed Berluti. “I am much looking forward to what lies ahead.” Tom Ford offered his stamp of approval: “I have long been a great fan of Haider’s work. I find both his womenswear and menswear equally compelling. He is an incredible colourist, his tailoring is sharp, and above all he is modern. We share many of the same historical references, and I could not be more excited to see what he does with the brand.”Ackermann succeeds Peter Hawkings as creative director of #TomFord. He will show his debut collection at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. “I suspect that I will be the first on my feet to applaud after his show in March,” says Ford. Like Ford, Ackermann has a star appeal: his headline-making designs have been worn on the red carpet by celebrities like Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton and Kylie Jenner.

David Koma Joins Blumarine

Earlier this week, Blumarine announced that it has tapped David Koma as its new creative director following Walter Chiapponi’s exit in March. This was unexpected but not shocking, considering how the designer’s slinky, celebrity-favourite offerings at his eponymous brand reflects that of Blumarine’s.

Veronica Leoni Joins Calvin Klein

Likewise, Veronica Leoni at Calvin Klein just makes sense. Pre-Calvin Klein, the Italian designer had cut her teeth at the likes of The Row and Phoebe Philo’s Céline—who excel at producing elevated, wearable basics—before launching her own brand, Quira. Come next March, expect a lineup of tailored, minimal pieces on Calvin Klein’s Fall/Winter 2025 runway.

Paul Andrew Joins Sergio Rossi

Paul Andrew, who was previously at Alexander McQueen and Ferragamo, was just onboarded as footwear giant Sergio Rossi’s creative director. Andrew also has his own label, Paul Andrew.

Internet Star Peanut The Squirrel Seized And Euthanized

Animal lovers are mourning the loss of a squirrel who stole the hearts of many online. Peanut the Squirrel, owned by Mark Longo, was seized and euthanized earlier this week. Longo is speaking out about the “selfish” people who had a hand in Peanut’s unfair demise.

Peanut was well known on Instagram and TikTok, as Longo shared many videos and photos of his furry best friend. He recently took to Instagram to share the sad events that happened this week.

Longo took to Instagram to share his frustration, anger, and sadness about what happened to the squirrel he called his “best friend.”

“Well internet, you WON. You took one of the most amazing animals away from me because of your selfishness. To the group of people who called DEC, there’s a special place in hell for you,” he began his Instagram caption. “Today at 10 am Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024…The NYC State DEC showed up to my house and took Peanut. He was TAKEN to the EUTHANIZED.”

He continued his caption to explain that he’s “in shock, disbelief, and disgusted” about who did this to Peanut.

“For the last 7 years, Peanut has been my best friend. He’s been the center of my world and many of yours for so long. I don’t know how to process this, emotionally,” he continued. “Last year we moved to NY in hopes of starting a NONPROFIT animal rescue in PNUT’s name.”

Mark Longo Doesn’t Know How He Will ‘Continue To Fundraise’ For The Nonprofit

Longo’s caption continued to share his frustration and explain that he’s not sure how he will be able to keep the funding the rescues without Peanut.

“With over 350 rescues, we’ve relied heavily on PNUT and his internet family to gather donations to help more animals,” he explained. “I don’t even know how I will continue to fundraise for this nonprofit.”

Longo said he will be taking a break from social media, and that he will be setting up a fundraiser for anyone who wants to donate in Peanut’s name.

“I’ll never give up on this nonprofit or those who fell in love with Peanut,” he concluded his caption.

Fans of the popular, sweet squirrel took to the comment section to share their disbelief and sadness over what happened.

“I can’t believe I am reading this. Why can’t miserable people just let others be happy. And WHY in the right mind would any agency euthanize him. I’m so sorry. This is so maddening and sickening,” one follower wrote.

Another added, “I am absolutely HORRIFIED and sick to my stomach reading this. I literally cannot believe that 1) this is how the laws in the state of NY are and 2) that anyone would go out of their way to report you. What an absolute tragedy. My heart breaks for you guys and for sweet baby Peanut.”

Mark Longo Shared An Emotional Video On Instagram

Just a few hours ago, Longo shared an emotional video on Peanut’s Instagram page holding back tears.

“I just want to say thank you to all of you. Peanut was the best thing that ever happened to us, and we got confirmation that they put him down,” he said. “I want to continue to fight this fight as much as I can, but we need all of you to come together and help us. Please continue to help us to raise money for the ongoing legal battles and for the nonprofit so we can keep Peanut’s name alive. Thank you all.”

The video’s caption shares more of the story.

“RIP MY BEST FRIEND. Thank you for the best 7 years of my life. Thank you for bringing so much joy to us and the world. I’m sorry I failed you but thank you for everything. Yall we desperately need your help. Help us raise the money to fight this and help @pnuts_freedom_farm continue to help animals like peanut,” the caption reads.

Many left their thoughts and condolences in the comment section.

“This is disgusting that he was euthanized, without even allowing you an opportunity for a hearing of some sort,” one person wrote. Another said, “What happened here is such a tragedy. How dare they treat you this way & murder your fur babies! We all stand with you in getting justice for Peanut.”

‘Call For Justice For Peanut The Squirrel And NYSDEC Reform’

    Peanut the Squirrel
    Change.org

A petition and a GoFundMe asks for help from fans and animal lovers for change and reform. Over on Change.org, a petition with an “urgent call to action” has been signed by more than 31,000 people. On GoFundMe, more than $14,000 has been raised so far.

The GoFundMe explains that Peanut was euthanized, as well as Longo’s raccoon, Fred.

“It is with profound sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news: on October 30th, the DEC made the devastating decision to euthanize our beloved Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon. Despite our passionate outcry for compassion, the agency chose to ignore our pleas, leaving us in deep shock and grief. To add to our anguish, they informed the media of their decision before even notifying P’nuts Freedom Farm, his loving home. This demonstrates a troubling lack of respect and empathy. Their lives were precious, and we refuse to accept this loss in silence,” the GoFundMe description reads.

    Article continues below advertisement

“We urgently call on all of you to stand with us in demanding accountability from the DEC and the New York State government.  We must advocate for a more passionate approach to wildlife management to ensure that no other animals suffer such a fate. Together, we can amplify our voices and fight for the change that is desperately needed.”

    Remembering Peanut The Squirrel

With more than 537,000 followers on Instagram and an additional 6,000 on TikTok, it’s safe to say that Peanut will be missed by many.

Just a few days before tragedy struck, Longo shared a video of Peanut climbing onto his head to get a waffle. The video also features other animals that Longo cares for.

Peanut’s Instagram page has more than 1,400 videos of the talented little squirrel.

How Celeb Facialist Shani Darden Maintains Glowy Skin When Traveling

Glow everywhere you go! Celebrity facialist Shani Darden is known for keeping Hollywood stars like Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Chrissy Teigen, Kelly Rowland, Shay Mitchell, Emmy Rossum and more look flawless, and now she’s telling ET how you can do the same wherever you are — or are going.

With the holidays and travel season approaching, Darden spilled her tips for maintaining luminous skin pre, mid, and post flight.

Before hopping on a plane, the Shani Darden Skincare founder recommends following a regimen filled with high-quality products that suit your specific skincare needs.

      Frankie Marin

“Start with the Cleansing Serum, which is a gentle cleanser with hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin, oat bran to re-balance moisture levels, and olive extract to soothe irritation or inflammation. Next, use iS Clinical’s Pro-Heal Serum to protect the skin and offset the effects of oxidative stress,” she says.

“For extra hydration, use the Moisture Boost Plumping Serum and Intensive Eye Renewal Cream. Finish with Supergoop’s Play Everyday SPF, which is one of my favorite sunscreens. It’s hydrating but doesn’t cause congestion and has an SPF 50,” Darden adds.

When you’re up in the air, the skincare guru suggests incorporating a few essentials as you sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight.

“I always travel with my Facial Sculpting Wand and use it when I’m on board. It really helps to counteract puffiness from flying and will keep your face sculpted. I usually wear eye masks as well to keep my under eyes hydrated. Once I remove the eye masks, I put on my eye cream and love to use it with the wand to help the product penetrate deeper,” she shares.

Next, it’s time to reapply your sunscreen.

“When you’re traveling by plane, the UV rays are that much more intense, so keeping yourself protected is essential. … UV rays can penetrate the clouds, windows, and so on, so even if you’re inside all day, wearing sunscreen is essential to keep your skin healthy,” Darden notes.

Once you reach your destination, the esthetician suggests resetting your complexion with the Triple Acid Signature Peel.

      Marc Patrick/BFA.com

“It’s the perfect chemical exfoliant to achieve a studio-level glow at home and something I always rely on to keep my skin glowing and my pores clear. Follow it with the Moisture Boost Plumping Skin, which leaves skin supple and bouncy while nourishing it with snow mushroom and glycerin.”

And even if you’ve landed in a cold climate, keeping SPF on hand is necessary.

“Everyone is always trying to reverse the signs of aging, however, you can prevent brown spots, discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles by protecting your skin from sun exposure, which involves wearing sunscreen regardless of the weather,” Darden explains.

Finally, don’t let your jet lag hit you before completing your nighttime routine.

“Cleanse again and add the Retinol Reform, which is the go-to serum I recommend to all of my clients to keep their skin glowing in between facials. … Follow it with a hydrating serum and eye cream again. Then apply the Hydration Peptide Cream to deliver deep hydration and support your skin barrier,” she spills.

      Shani Darden/Instagram

To amplify your skincare goals throughout your trip, the Déesse Pro LED Light Mask is key.

“It’s a quick 10-minute treatment with clinically-proven wavelengths of red, blue, and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular response to clear mild to moderate acne, target pigmentation, and visibly diminish fine lines and wrinkles. … It yields amazing results when used consistently,” Darden reveals.

Crypto Whales Lose Faith In XRP Price Amid SEC Struggle, Move Into WallitIQ (WLTQ) For 6,000% Returns Over Shiba Inu

The lackluster XRP price action resulting from the ongoing Ripple and SEC struggle has made crypto whales wary. These crypto whales are notably shifting from the XRP price toward WallitIQ (WLTQ) for its potential to provide 6,000% returns over Shiba Inu (SHIB).

Why Wallit (WLTQ) Can Deliver 6,000% Returns To Crypto Whales

There’s been an increasing demand for an effective crypto wallet, especially among crypto whales. Wallit (WLTQ) uses AI and machine learning algorithms to provide a decentralized crypto wallet that addresses the major challenges in existing wallets.

The WallitIQ (WLTQ) wallet will be protected by intelligent security measures, such as Escrow-Connect by AI-Einstein, which will intercept connections between external dApps and users’ wallets to perform a thorough security analysis.

The wallet will also include advanced Anomaly Detection and Behavioral Analysis. Here, its AI will create a behavior profile for each user, and any anomalies in behavior will trigger alerts, detecting potential security breaches before they occur.

WallitIQ (WLTQ) will also help crypto whales make informed investment decisions through its AI-driven crypto education and portfolio management. The wallet’s AI will conduct an analysis of users’ portfolio and market data to identify strengths, deficiencies, and potential paths to increased profits.

Crypto whales and investors can increase their crypto knowledge through WallitIQ’s AI, which will curate education content to suit every experience level and investment goal. With many financial processes moving to DeFi, WallitIQ (WLTQ) has pioneered a Physical 2 Digital (P2D) technology that will enable users to digitize and store in their decentralized wallet vital items such as passports, driver’s licenses, and ID cards.

Despite being in the first stage of its presale, WallitIQ (WLTQ) has already received a listing on CoinMarketCap and the integrity of its smart contract verified by a SolidProof analysis. Stage 1 is close to 50% done, with WLTQ tokens selling at $0.0171 and a profit of more than 405% expected upon launch.

With its pioneering technology, low market cap, growing community of investors, and relatively low entry price, WallitIQ (WLTQ) could deliver 6,000% returns to crypto whales.

Crypto Whales Lose Faith In XRP Price Amid SEC Struggle, Move Into WallitIQ (WLTQ) For 6,000% Returns Over Shiba Inu

Crypto Whales Lose Faith In XRP Price Amid SEC Struggle

According to James K. Filan, the SEC filed a petition for a deadline extension for its appeal brief until January 15, 2025 on October 24 after missing the court’s appeal brief submission deadline. The potential delay from the SEC petition has stalled hopes of a near-term recovery for the XRP price.

Over the past month, the XRP price has declined by over 15%, trading at $0.5255 at the time of writing. The XRP price has also remained in a confined range in October, failing to break the resistance at $0.55 several times. The bearish XRP price action and SEC struggles have caused major movements among crypto whales.

According to Santiment’s data, crypto whales with between 10 million and 1 billion XRP tokens have sold 700 million XRP since October 19, valued at approximately $357 million. This extensive liquidation has pushed the crypto whales’ XRP holdings down to 15.78 billion tokens, their lowest level since early August.

        Shiba Inu (SHIB) Price Outlook

The daily chart shows that the Shiba Inu (SHIB) price has increased inside an ascending parallel channel since August. Shiba Inu (SHIB) faced a rejection from the resistance trend line on September 27, sparking a decline. While Shiba Inu (SHIB) briefly bounced from the channel’s midline, it formed a lower high on October 19, confirming the $0.0000195 level as a key resistance.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) for Shiba Inu (SHIB) is on the verge of dipping below 50, and the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) has turned bearish. If Shiba Inu (SHIB) has indeed entered wave C, its price may descend to around $0.0000144 before finding support that potentially sets the stage for a renewed uptrend.

        Conclusion

Crypto whales and investors who have lost faith in the XRP Price amid the SEC struggle could consider moving to WallitIQ (WLTQ) for potentially 6,000% returns over Shiba Inu (SHIB).

        Screenshot: Sony / Kotaku

Since Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the same game as the original, returning players should have a pretty good idea of its length and content. If you’re new to the game, though, you may be curious how long it’ll take to complete.

An average playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered should take you around 20 to 25 hours. This includes casually dabbling in a few side activities but mostly focusing on the main story. Of course, the remaster also includes the game’s only DLC, The Frozen Wilds, which can take another 10 to 15 hours to experience.

However, those seeking to see and do everything the main game and DLC has to offer can spend up to 80 hours exploring its stunning landscapes, to clear all the bandit camps, climb all of the Longnecks, and finish a wide variety of other optional but rewarding tasks—doing that ultimately results in earning its coveted Platinum trophy.

Meet Recraft V3: The Best AI Image Generator You Never Heard Of – Decrypt

Meet Recraft V3: The Best AI Image Generator You Never Heard Of – Decrypt

Stand aside Flux and MidJourney: There’s a new player that just shot to the top of AI image generation rankings. A mystery model formerly known as Red Panda—which had AI watchers scratching their heads on Artificial Analysis’s leaderboards—finally revealed itself as Recraft V3, a fresh release from a little-known London startup.

The model enjoyed the top score on the ELO rating system for image generators, outperforming Flux 1.1 Pro and MidJourney. In terms of efficiency, Recraft V3 matches SDXL’s generation speed of under 10 seconds while delivering what blind tests indicate is unmatched superior image quality.

In four days of benchmark testing, Recraft V3 demonstrated superiority in text generation quality, anatomical accuracy, and prompt comprehension. It stands as the sole model capable of generating images with extended text passages, beyond simple word or phrase integration.

In fact, it was so good that even former Stability AI researcher Joe Penna, who worked on the development of SDXL—the undisputed king of open source image generation until Flux appeared—publicly praised the model on the company’s Discord server.

“Wow! Amazing new model, Recraft,” he said, “I’m very impressed.”

You may not have heard about it, unless you are deeply into generative AI or digital design, but London startup Recraft AI was founded in 2022 and started as a niche player focused on AI-powered tools for graphic designers rather than general image generation. Its trajectory shifted after securing $11 million in funding from the likes of Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO, Nat Friedman, earlier this year.

Recraft V3 excels in creating realistic images, handling fine details and imperfections with notable precision and operates on a subscription model similar to MidJourney, Leonardo, or Ideogram.

Digital design is at the core of Recraft’s values. This model is also capable of processing text to vector generations, meaning users can prompt a model to generate images that can be upscaled infinitely without losing quality.

Free users receive 50 daily credits which is enough for 50 images. However—and this is a new business model, users don’t retain ownership of their creations. That right is reserved for paid subscribers, with plans starting at $10 monthly for 1,000 credits.

          How to use Recraft V3

Users can access Recraft V3 through three channels: a web interface, Discord commands, or mobile apps available on iOS and Android.

Fire up Discord, join Recraft’s server, and you’ll find yourself in familiar territory if you’ve ever used MidJourney. Head to the #image-gen channel, type /recraft, and watch the magic happen.

You can also use different modifiers after the prompt. Want a widescreen masterpiece? Throw in –ar 16:9. Need a portrait? Type –ar 3:4, and it has your back.

Other useful additions are the –style command that lets users choose the specific visuals of their generations whether it is photorealism, 3D, or even kawaii. Got a specific look in mind? The –sref command lets you upload reference images to guide the AI’s artistic vision.

Once the image is generated, users can choose the image they like the most between 2 generations and then they can either save it or upscale it to 4 times its size

          Recraft’s Discord-based UI

The web interface at recraft.ai flexes some serious muscle. To start, simply go to Recraft.AI and sign in.

Once on the image generation UI, users will just need to place their prompt on the text box on the left size.

They also have sliders to change the aspect ratio and the number of images.

Users can also change the style by clicking on the button with the icon on top of the text box and choosing their preferred option from a popup menu with a lot of examples.

          Recraft’s Web-based UI

The interface is a lot more sophisticated than other sites and it is clear just at first glance that it’s aimed at designers. It lets users generate frames, product mockups, sets of images, deal with backgrounds, vectorize images, etc.

Mobile creators haven’t been forgotten. The official apps on iOS and Android are available, offering the same quality generations. Simply download the app, login, click on the top middle button, and generate an image by putting the prompt on on the text box on the lower side of the screen and clicking the generate button

          Recraft Mobile UI

Users can choose how detailed the image will be, the aspect ratio, the styles and references on the same interface. It is pretty intuitive.

          Testing the model

We tested the model in different areas, both in terms of style and technical capabilities. Here is how it stacked up against its competitors—both open source and close source.

          Realism

Prompt: A projection of the word “Emerge” on a woman’s face

          Recraft V3:

Emerge image created with Recraft V3
Emerge image created with Recraft V3

Recraft shows the best understanding of natural skin texture, facial expressions, and environmental lighting. The projection appears well-integrated with the skin, and crucially, there are real imperfectionsvisible pores, slight skin blemishes, and natural hair flyaways. The candid expression and background context add significant authenticity.

          Stable Diffusion 3.5:

Emerge image created with Stable Diffusion 3.5
Emerge image created with Stable Diffusion 3.5

SD 3.5 comes in a close second place. It is a big improvement vs SD3 medium and even the best realistic SDXL finetunes. It shows a strong dramatic presence with the orange-tinted lighting and bold red lipstick. While the facial features are well-defined, there’s a noticeable artificial quality to the skin texture. The projection appears more like a sharp overlay, and the expression feels somewhat posed and synthetic.

          MidJourney:

          Emerge image created with MidJourney
          Emerge image created with MidJourney

As always, MidJourney creates a moody, cinematic look with strong technical execution. However, the woman’s skin has a glossy, almost ethereal quality that, while beautiful, feels less natural than Recraft’s attempt. The projection blends well, but the overall perfection of the features and textures—and the clear lack of authenticity in the expressions—reveals its AI origin.

          Winner: Recraft

          Prompt Adherence and Spatial Awareness

Prompt: A dog standing on top of a TV showing the word “Decrypt” on the screen. On the left there is a woman in a business suit holding a coin, on the right there is a robot standing on top of a first aid box. The overall scenery is surreal

          Recraft V3:

Decrypt image created with Recraft V3
Decrypt image created with Recraft V3

The model failed in terms of spatial awareness. However, it managed to achieve the surreal style in the overall composition. This is a departure from other models that exhibited great adherence and spatial awareness in the elements, but the overall mood or style of the scene was questionable.

This can be seen as a good tradeoff for some since it is easier to inpaint and edit elements in a composition than to restyle a whole image. However, it is important to consider this as a major limitation when compared against other models.

Decrypt images created with Flux, Auraflow, and SD3 Medium
Decrypt images created with Flux, Auraflow, and SD3 Medium

          Winner: Flux

          Illustration and Style:

Prompt: Hand-drawn illustration of a giant spider chasing a woman in the jungle, extremely scary, anguish, dark and creepy scenery, horror, hints of analog photography influence, sketch

The model has a lot of different styles to choose from, but we went with Recraft RAW for this generation. At first we thought the “hand drawn” style was the best option, but… no, it wasn’t.

          Image created with Recraft RAW
          Image created with Recraft RAW

After trying different preset styles, the good old RAW (the most versatile one) was the best fit for what we were looking for.

          Image created with Recraft RAW
          Image created with Recraft RAW

Compared to the other models, Recraft generated an interesting composition, and was accurate at showing the key message of the scene: A giant spider chasing a woman. However, the overall art looked more like a digital illustration instead of a hand-drawn illustration.

Aesthetically, the most accurate model for this specific prompt seems to be the latest Stable Diffusion Model, which generated a hand drawn illustration, and was able to convey the anguish of a woman running away from a giant spider.

Images created with SD3, SDXL, MidJourney, and Ideogram

          Winner: SD3

          Conclusions

It is easy to see why Recraft V3 claims the top spot in the Image Generation Leaderboard. Unlike competitors like MidJourney and Flux, which often fall into predictable, stylized patterns—the smooth “Flux face” or the lifeless “MidJourney look”—Recraft leans into realism. Its outputs are compelling, showing intricate details like natural skin texture, subtle imperfections, and nuanced lighting. This aesthetic balance, favoring authenticity without sacrificing polish, gives Recraft an edge that other models struggle to match.

The pricing strategy is also important to consider. Recraft offers a free tier with generous daily credits, and it’s the only model supporting text-to-SVG generation, a boon for illustrators looking for scalable, professional-quality vectors. It is also priced similarly to MidJourney’s cheapest plan—but unless you are looking for the MidJourney aesthetics, Recraft is a lot more versatile and powerful, so it is the better option.

That said, Recraft isn’t perfect. When it comes to complex scenes with multiple elements, spatial awareness sometimes falters. Prompts requiring precise composition can result in minor misalignments, and users may find themselves inpainting or adjusting positions more than expected. But for those who prioritize realism and versatility, this shortfall is easily overlooked.

Also, free users not owning their creations may be a major flaw to take into consideration.

In general, Recraft V3 does seem to be the best closed-source option, delivering superior value and flexibility at a price point that respects creators’ budgets. For anyone in search of high-quality realistic images without the trademark “AI look,” Recraft is a clear winner.

However, those capable of running AI models locally, may be just fine enough with Flux or SD 3.5.

Don’t worry, the Monster Hunter Wilds beta might serve you eyeless NPC and angry blob nightmare fuel, but the full game shouldn’t haunt your dreams

The Monster Hunter Wilds beta has being doing very well in terms of attracting players so far, but plenty of those folks seem like they might now be in danger of wetting the bed – either in fear or amusement – after encountering some graphical glitch nightmare fuel that makes the game not look like one you’re planning on playing in 2025.

Upon loading in, a bunch of folks on the Monster Hunter subreddit have been sharing clips of these issues seeing NPCs revert to almost-2D eyeless texture form – which as you can imagine makes conversations interesting – and monsters simply being giant angry blobs that you’re hunting, as if you’re clearing up after a toddler that’s gone nuts with some Play-Doh (silly putty, I think, if you’re from across the pond).

You can just check out some of the posts embedded throughout this article if you want a taste of what it’s been like for these folks, as they’ve navigated a realm that’s a lovely mix of sharp, realstic visuals and abstract existential dread. To be fair, if you’ve signed up to hunt some monsters, you need to be ready for anything.

Anyway, the good news is that Capcom’s already on the case, suggesting that it’s ensuring the final release build of the game should be less prone to stuff like this, and providing folks with troubleshooting steps to follow in order to help them have a less weird beta experience.

“The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test,” the developer wrote in a tweet, with some other issues also being noted alongside steps to try in a troubleshooting guide it’s posted on Steam.

If you’re after some more Monster Hunter goodness, you can read some of our words previewing Wilds, and outlining why what Capcom’s done with armour in terms gender is cool.
