SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro: Low price buds with a bold clip-on design

SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro: Low price buds with a bold clip-on design

I’ve been testing the new SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro earbuds for a some weeks now. These launched in January 2025, and SoundPEATS kindly provided me with a pair to try out. I was initially curious (and more than slightly skeptical I admit) about their “Clip-On” design. Can a low-price buds work in the modern work and life that well? Now, after some hands-on experience, here’s my take on how they perform and what experiences I have so far.

The most striking feature of the PearlClip Pro is obviously the Clip-On design. While traditional earbuds sit inside your ear canal (a stem or some other part sticking out), these have an “arm” that curves around the front to the back of the ear. It’s almost like wearing a pearl earring that hooks on – hence the name “PearlClip.”. As a man not wearing any earrings or other ear decorations, this does look very odd to me (on me) but let’s focus on function over the style. On the style, I need to point out that I did try out Microsoft Surface Buds three years ago (2022) , which also had a distinguishing design element. Btw, Surface Buds 2 never came out and I never got them to sit securely in my ears.

PearlClip Pro got VGP2025 Gold Award / VGP 2025 Best Cost Performance Award. I wasn’t familiar with these awards earlier, but I suppose these awards aren’t very loud in western / European countries.

The package contained all the essentials + some stickers. The package is not designed to be recycled fully, as there seems to be one plastic piece (where the case sits). Seeing how many companies put effort for package recycling, I wish the practice would extend to budget products as well.

The charging cable ( USB-A to USB-C) was provided but frankly that is a bare minimum. Cable is short and using that would mean digging a charger with USB-A port from the storage.. All my chargers come with USB-C port these days.

Sizewise, here is a size comparison to Jabra Evolve2 Buds case. These are similar in the size. the PearlClip Pro’s case design makes it easy to put to the “coin pocket” in jeans, despite being a bit larger than Jabra’s case.

I missed it first, but that “row of lights” is actually also a button that is used when pairing buds to other devices, or if there is a need to do a reset.

Comparing to Jabra’s case, PearlClip’s case feels plastique and cheap. It does the job, but the case might have a shorter lifecycle than Evolve2’s case has. But I point here as well: we are talking here about a totally different price range.

Solid Audio Quality Despite the unusual design, the PearlClip Pro sound better than I initially expected. They have a 12mm dual-magnet driver coupled with a Dynamic EQ, so you get good highs and decent lows. The open-ear design also creates a more natural soundstage, which can be quite “cinematic” if you want to be aware of your surroundings.

Music and Calls: Whether I was listening music or taking a Microsoft Teams call, I found the audio to be a good one, especially considering the price for around 50–60 USD (60-80 EUR).

Not Microsoft Teams Certified: Though not officially Teams certified, I had zero trouble using these for calls and virtual meetings on Teams. The mic quality was clear, and I didn’t have issues with connectivity.

At first, it wasn’t easy for me to figure out how to wear them. After practice, I got better at clipping them on, but I’m still not sure I’d trust them fully when moving around a lot or doing sports. This is mostly because of how they rest on my ear, pressing slightly on the ear flap. Normal buds are pressed into the ear canal, and to me it feels more secure but then there are buds which drop out too easily.. If you don’t like traditional buds (or they are never comfortable in your ears), give this design a try.

The comfort level is very personal. I found I could not wear them for two hours straight without feeling some pressure, but for shorter calls or music sessions, it was fine. If you have trouble with traditional bud designs, this clip style might be a great alternative. But if you prefer familiar in-ear buds (like I do), you might find these a bit strange. I can wear Jabra Evolve 2 or Logitech True Wireless buds easily for 3-4 hours without breaks.

Comparing to the promo picture with a model, it looks like I am wearing them quite ok but the model’s ear has a different shape that is better suited for the clip-on.

The PearlClip Pro features touch controls on the “arm,” letting you play/pause music, skip tracks, adjust volume, and answer calls. Unfortunately, I found these touch controls a bit unreliable. Often, a double-tap was registered as two single taps, making it feel tricky to navigate quickly. I ended up controlling music and calls directly from my mobile or computer, rather than using the touch interface on the earbuds.

A single charge gives you up to 6 hours of playtime, with another 18 hours from the case, for a total of around 24 hours. There’s also a fast-charging feature that provides 2 hours of playtime after just 10 minutes of charging. Not bad, but not a winner either.

Auto-Adaptive Left/Right is a real nice feature: One handy trick is that you can place either bud in either side of the case. After about 10 seconds, they’ll automatically adapt to be left or right appropriately, saving you from accidentally putting the wrong earbud in the wrong ear.

Dual-Device Connection: These can connect to two devices at once, so it is possible switch between your phone and laptop. This worked without issues.

Jabra Evolve2 Buds ComparisonIf asked about how PearlClip Pro compares to pricier earbuds such as Jabra Evolve2 Buds here is my opinion. To be fair, Jabra is in a different league (often closer to 300–350€) and includes features like Active Noise Cancellation, multi-microphone arrays, and official Microsoft Teams certification with a dongle.

Although Jabra’s fit and ANC are top-notch, the PearlClip Pro does an admirable job mastering the basics at a fraction of the price. If noise cancellation isn’t a priority or you want to stay aware of your surroundings, PearlClip Pro may be enough for your everyday needs.

Considering the big price gap, it’s not exactly apples to apples. Still, if you need a budget-friendly solution that works for calls and music, PearlClip Pro holds its own.

I also asked SoundPEATS contact about how they see PearlClip Pro compared to the Apple AirPods 2. They replied that “In terms of price, the PearlClip Pro is definitely more affordable, but it also competes strongly in terms of features. The open-ear design provides a different kind of comfort compared to AirPods Pro 2, which are in-ear, making the PearlClip Pro ideal for long periods of use while maintaining situational awareness. In terms of performance, the dual-magnet driver and dynamic EQ on the PearlClip Pro give it a distinct advantage in sound quality. While AirPods Pro 2 excel in noise cancellation, the PearlClip Pro offers a more natural, open listening experience and impressive battery life for its price range.“

That summarizes pros these buds have: the price and maintaining the situational awareness. I do have doubt these have sound quality advantages over pricier buds, but when looking a the price these are very good in many ways. Music and audio sounds quite natural to me (normal knowledge worker use who likes to play music on background during the workday). Battery life seems to be also quite ok, I didn’t stress test it yet but on my casual usage I didn’t have any issues. In terms of the battery life it doesn’t meet Jabra’s 33 hours with ANC on (with the case recharges), it isn’t bad for the price.

Tech specs table

FeaturePearlClip Pro Specification/DescriptionDesign & FitInnovative clip-on style with 70% liquid silicone & nickel-titanium memory steel; open-ear for situational awareness; lightweight at just 5.85g per earbud.Driver & Audio12mm dual-magnet dynamic driver (PU + nickel-plated diaphragm), Dynamic EQ, and open spatial audio for cinematic, immersive listening.Battery Life & ChargingUp to 6 hours on a single charge, plus 18 additional hours via charging case (total 24 hours). Fast charge provides 2 hours of playtime with a 10-minute charge.Auto-Adaptive L/R ChannelPlace the earbuds in the charging case without distinguishing left or right; they automatically adjust and pair correctly after about 10 seconds. This is quite cool – no need to worry about mixing left and right versions when putting them to the charging case. Controls & AppTouch controls on each earbud (play/pause, calls, volume, track skip). PeatsAudio app support for EQ customization, checking battery status, and adjusting touch settings.ConnectivityBluetooth 5.4 with dual-device connection for easy switching between phone and laptop. Supports AAC/SBC codecs.Noise Reduction1-MIC AI environmental noise cancellation (ENC) for clearer calls and which minimizes background noise like wind, traffic, and conversations. (Note: This is not active noise cancellation for music.). Directional sound design directs audio into your ear canal, reducing sound leakage while maintaining crisp audio. With a -38 ±1dB microphone sensitivity, it ensures that external noise should not interfere that much.IP RatingIPX5 water resistance for protection against sweat and light rain.Dimensions & WeightEarbuds: 31.34 × 14.69 × 29.05 mm (5.85g each). Case: 72.21 × 24.15 × 45.53 mm (47.34g total with earbuds).

The PearlClip Pro is clearly designed with mobile devices in mind, but they state that it is fully compatible with both Windows and Mac laptops/desktops as well. My tests with my Surface Laptop Studio PC didn’t have any connectivity issues and Apple iPhone 16pro also worked without any issues with PearlClip Pros.

These earbuds work with the new PeatsAudio app, which lets you customize EQ settings, check battery status, and configure touch commands. This can help mitigate some of the problems with the touch controls if you’re up for fiddling with settings. Here are some pictures from the app, to give understanding about features available.

Connecting to the device was easy.

Oddly, the device color needs to be picked. I suppose this is important for some people – but as usual, black / dark is my choice.

You can set buds also to Game and Movie mode.

It is possible to customize touch controls.

And more..

The PearlClip Pro stands out with its bold aesthetic. You either like it or you don’t, but I give SoundPEATS points for daring to be innovate. Traditional earbuds don’t fit everyone, so maybe this shape is exactly what you’ve been looking for?

If you find the design appealing (or if typical earbuds never quite feel right for you), spending around 50–60 USD (60-80 EUR with discounts, the original price is about 85€) might be worth it. Personally, I’m still relying to my Jabra Evolve2 Buds (and Logitech Zone True Wireless) for work and travel, since they fit my ears better and include active noise cancellation that removes surrounding noise. And I do admit, I do like more how traditional buds look. For casual music listening or calls here and there, PearlClip Pro does the job just fine. And if using Microsoft Teams noise cancellation / voice isolation the buds mic don’t have to excel at removing surrounding noise (despite they do claim it is good) and other people’s voices. And if you need to stay (audio) aware of your surroundings, this less closed design helps with that too. Microphones did pick up my voice clearly, which is pretty good for buds.

Overall, the SoundPEATS PearlClip Pro is an interesting new take on wireless earbuds. The clip-on design may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the sound quality, battery life, and call performance are surprisingly good for the low price point. If you’re intrigued by the concept – or if typical earbud styles have never been comfortable for you – it’s definitely worth giving these a try. They come at a budget-friendly cost, making them an easy recommendation for curious or those looking for something more unique.

So.. Buy or not? It all comes down to whether the clip-on design suits your ears and preferences, and whether you’re okay without the active noise cancellation. For me, it was a fun experiment, but I will still reach for my trusty (and more expensive) everyday buds for work and travel. Still, PearlClip Pro is a solid option in its price range, especially if you’re looking for something different.

If you want to check them out and you live in US, you can find these on Amazon US (I don’t get any incentive with that link). If you don’t live in US, you can find other countries from SoundPEATS pages where there are direct links to other Amazons, where you can buy these For example Amazon DE, where the price is 67€, with a 20% discount in place. The price seems to vary between different European countries a bit.

SoundPEATS kindly provided PearlClip Pro buds for me to write an honest experiences review.

2XKO game director speaks out about the next “much smaller” online play test, a new fuse, and more ahead of February update

2XKO game director speaks out about the next “much smaller” online play test, a new fuse, and more ahead of February update

2XKO game director Shaun “unconkable” Rivera has posted a lengthy statement online (first on Reddit, later on X) shutting down speculation and misinformation regarding the game and its upcoming online play test. This includes the fact that the next play test will be “much smaller” than the first Alpha Lab test.

The entire statement, which you can read here, kicks off by acknowledging the “crazy memes and hysteria” of the game’s official subreddit, before revealing the team were initially planning on running a larger-scale play test next month, with the February update covering this event. However, it looks like plans have changed to a smaller play test instead, while the team builds up infrastructure for a larger influx of players later this year.

Manage cookie settings

Rivera also addressed the Pulse Fuse, as there have been discussions among the community of it going away. This fuse, for those who can’t remember, allowed for players to mash a single button and perform a decent combo (while retaining all their usual attacks). This, it seems, has been replaced with an auto-combo setting selectable during character select.

Instead, Rivera reveals more about a new fuse: Sidekick. This basically removes the ability for the two playable characters to switch at all, instead providing the point character with more health and providing the second player more of a “support” role. Think of it like Yummi in League of Legends, who is attached to another champion and assists them by throwing out abilities (in 2XKO, assists) that aid in their assault.

This information seems to have been suddenly posted in response to leaks that had appeared online earlier this month (we obviously can’t link to ’em here), which explains the sudden and largely unexpected post by Rivera here. He doesn’t provide a date for the February update, which remains the main topic of speculation in the minds of 2XKO fans.

Obviously, this post raises a bunch of questions. The first, and most pressing in my mind, is how much smaller the upcoming play test will be? The first alpha lab proved popular, with flocks of new and experienced fighting game players rushing for access.

It also begs the question of why a smaller test? If I may speculate, it could be to gather data on a specific user base, perhaps to better balance the game for a wider net of players. For example, they’re adding the Sidekick fuse, right? So maybe they want a smaller test aimed at a control group of 50/50 experienced and totally new testers? It’s something I’m personally keen to learn more about.

Then there’s the decision to build infrastructure for an increased number of future players, which itself is interesting. Perhaps, given the popularity of the first Alpha Lab, the team is anticipating a very significant increase in sign ups for a future test. This on its face makes sense, we saw plenty of players left in the cold last time, and these sorts of slow builds to release tend to gain interest the closer they get to that long-awated 1.0 launch date.

However the cookie crumbles, it’s February 21 as of writing, which means it shouldn’t be too long until we know for certain what the deal is. Still, an interesting peek into what’s going on, even if it was sudden.

What do you think of this new info? Does Sidekick sound like a cool new addition to you? Let us know below!

Onramp Partners With Arch To Provide USD Loans Secured By Bitcoin

In Brief

Onramp has partnered with Arch to offer US dollar loans backed by Bitcoin collateral, providing clients with a streamlined credit solution that includes personalized support, Bitcoin storage, and secure collateral management.

Onramp Partners With Arch To Provide USD Loans Secured By Bitcoin

Bitcoin-focused financial services company Onramp has announced a new partnership with Arch to offer US dollar loans backed by Bitcoin collateral. This collaboration aims to provide Onramp clients with a streamlined credit solution that includes personalized support, dedicated Bitcoin storage, and secure collateral management.

Among the key features of this offering, Arch provides dedicated customer service, ensuring round-the-clock assistance to address client needs efficiently. Client Bitcoin holdings are maintained in separate, verifiable addresses, enhancing security and transparency. The collateral is stored with Anchorage, a qualified custodian operating under a US-based trust structure designed to protect assets in case of bankruptcy. Arch operates as a fully compliant US entity, authorized to lend in most US states and select international markets.

Borrowers can access up to 50% Loan-to-Value (LTV) with fixed two-year terms. There are no penalties for early repayment, and clients have the option to increase their credit line in real time. Credit lines are capped at 50% LTV, with margin calls triggered at 70% LTV. If the LTV reaches 80%, a partial liquidation is conducted—only to the extent necessary to bring the LTV back down to 50%.

Currently, this product does not utilize multi-institution custody. However, both Arch and Onramp are committed to transitioning to Onramp’s multi-institution custody framework as the service evolves.

How To Get Started With Onramp’s Bitcoin-Backed Lending Service?

In order to begin using the service, new users are encouraged to sign up, while existing Onramp clients can contact their representative to initiate the process. Alternatively, they can visit the platform’s website for further details. Once registered, users must complete their initial collateral deposit, during which their Bitcoin will be transferred to a segregated address that has been independently verified by both Onramp and Arch.

After approval, the loan proceeds can be transferred directly to the user’s bank account or provided in the form of stablecoins. Users have the ability to monitor their LTV ratio in real time. If the price of Bitcoin increases, they may choose to lower their loan balance or request a partial release of their collateral.

Onramp specializes in providing high-quality financial products and services designed to facilitate Bitcoin adoption among high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and institutions. By prioritizing security through multi-institution custody and offering a streamlined approach to holding Bitcoin, Onramp’s platform minimizes counterparty risk and serves as a reliable choice for investors looking to gain Bitcoin exposure.

Prominent Customer Communications Management Market Share Trend for 2025: Technological Advancements Transforming The Landscape Of Customer Communication Management | Web3Wire

Customer Communications Management Market Share

What market dynamics are playing a key role in accelerating the growth of the customer communications management market? The global boost in smartphone usage is a key driver for the expansion of the customer communication management market. The term “smartphone penetration” refers to the ratio of active mobile subscriptions to the total mobile market. Smartphones have become essential tools for managing customer interactions across diverse channels, including live chat inquiries, email feature requests, SMS/MMS, mobile-responsive experiences, and in-app notifications. For example, Uswitch Limited, a financial regulatory body from the UK, reported that in February 2023, mobile connections in the UK hit 71.8 million-an increase of 3.8% from the previous year, equating to roughly 2.6 million new connections. Looking ahead, predictions say that by 2025, the UK’s population will grow to 68.3 million, with approximately 95%, or around 65 million people, expected to own a smartphone. Consequently, the surge in smartphone usage will likely stimulate the market’s growth in the next few years.

Taylor Swift’s Alleged Role In ‘It Ends With Us’ Casting Exposed

Taylor Swift’s Alleged Role In ‘It Ends With Us’ Casting Exposed

A resurfaced interview is shedding new light on Taylor Swift’s involvement in the production of “It Ends with Us,” suggesting that the pop icon may have played a bigger role than previously acknowledged.

While sources have attempted to distance Swift from the ongoing legal battle between the film’s director, Justin Baldoni, and its lead actress, Blake Lively, newly resurfaced statements from Baldoni and actress Isabela Ferrer indicate that Swift had direct influence over casting decisions.

During a past interview with “Access Hollywood,” Baldoni revealed that he consulted both Lively and Swift when selecting Ferrer for the role of young Lily Bloom, the character played by Lively.

“I had actually brought in and showed her casting tape to Blake and Taylor and they were both, like, ‘Yes! Her,’” Baldoni said in the clip, adding, “And that’s a true story.”

Meanwhile, Ferrer confirmed Swift’s involvement in her casting while speaking to Extra at the film’s premiere.

“I don’t even know if I’m supposed to be saying it, but I’m saying it!” she said hesitantly. “Yeah, she was a helpful part of the process of the audition, which I found out later after I got it and that rocked my world. I have no words.”

Beyond casting, Swift also had a direct impact on the film’s soundtrack.

Lively previously stated that she personally reached out to her longtime friend to request permission to use Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet” in the trailer and soundtrack.

“I think that, for better or worse, she experienced the whole thing with me,” Lively shared during an August 2024 interview with “CBS Mornings.”

Lively also admitted that including Swift’s music in the film was not something she initially thought was possible.

“This was actually, it’s quite a small budget movie. … So we never thought, like, our eyeballs were not that big to think that we could put one of her songs in the movie and it had to be.”

While Swift’s name was already connected to “It Ends with Us” in a creative capacity, Baldoni further brought her into the legal drama by referencing her in his $400 million extortion and defamation lawsuit against Lively.

In January 2025, after Lively accused him of sexual harassment and other claims in a California Civil Rights Department complaint, Baldoni alleged that Swift was indirectly used as leverage against him. According to his lawsuit, Baldoni was invited to Lively’s New York City penthouse to discuss script rewrites with Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and “a famous, and famously close, friend,” referring to Swift.

Following the meeting, Lively allegedly sent Baldoni a text, writing, “If you ever get around to watching ‘Game of Thrones,’ you’ll appreciate that I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have a few dragons.”

She then reportedly referred to Swift and Reynolds, saying, “For better or worse, but usually for better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really, we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. You will too, I can promise you.”

Baldoni’s lawyers argued that the text message sent a clear message of intimidation, claiming that “Baldoni was not just dealing with Lively. He was also facing Lively’s ‘dragons,’ two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world, who were not afraid to make things very difficult for him.”

Taylor Swift Reportedly Feels ‘Used’ In The Legal Drama

Following Baldoni’s lawsuit, sources close to Swift spoke out, claiming that the Grammy winner felt “used” by Lively and was unhappy with the “dragons” reference.

A well-connected insider told TMZ that Swift “had no idea” the penthouse meeting involved Baldoni when she was invited over that day.

“She doesn’t appreciate being referred to as one of Blake’s dragons,” another source claimed, suggesting that Swift wants to remain completely uninvolved in the ongoing feud.

Page Six previously reported that the “You Belong with Me” singer is “hurt by this whole situation and feels like a “pawn” in the legal battle, and is “taking a break” from her friendship with Lively.

However, conflicting reports about Swift and Lively’s friendship continue to surface.

A separate source previously told Page Six that the two remain on good terms and that rumors of a strained relationship are “not true.”

Franklin Templeton Launches EZPZ ETF for Weighted Bitcoin, Ethereum Exposure – Decrypt

    0
Franklin Templeton Launches EZPZ ETF for Weighted Bitcoin, Ethereum Exposure – Decrypt

What do you get when you combine EZBC and EZET? According to the launch of Franklin Templeton’s Crypto Index ETF, the result is EZPZ.

Representing the ticker name of Franklin Templeton’s newest crypto product listed on the Cboe BZX exchange on Thursday, EZPZ offers investors both Bitcoin and Ethereum exposure.

The product tracks price movements for the two top cryptocurrencies based on CF Benchmark’s Institutional Digital Asset Index, which debuted last year, and focuses on coins “recognized as being in conformance with major financial jurisdictions prevailing capital markets.”

That means that instead of targeting just one cryptocurrency, the index weights top coins by market capitalization. As a result, 82% of a dollar invested in EZPZ would be exposed to Bitcoin’s price, while 18% would be correlated to Ethereum’s performance.

EZPZ’s start follows Franklin Templeton’s introduction of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs last year. The financial giant, alongside its push into the digital assets space, first launched FOBXX, a tokenized money-market fund, on Polygon and Stellar in 2021.

Roger Bayston, head of digital assets at Franklin Templeton, said in a press release that the fund’s 0.19% expense ratio will make it a cheap way for investors to tap a budding asset class.

“Blockchains are emerging as important utilities for the current and future information and data economies,” he said. “With EZPZ, we’re offering a simple, low-cost way to gain exposure to this growing and important asset class.”

Though Franklin Templeton ranks among the world’s largest asset managers, its Franklin Bitcoin ETF’s (EZBC) $708 million in assets under management (AUM) ranks just ninth among the 11 U.S.-based spot Bitcoin funds currently trading, according to CoinGlass data.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT), the dominant fund in the fledgling space, has $56.6 billion in AUM.

The Franklin Ethereum ETF (EZET), which started trading alongside eight competitors last July, has $34 million in AUM to rank seventh among that group.

Despite lesser adoption for Franklin Templeton’s crypto ETFs, the firm’s digital assets arm is still, perhaps, at the forefront of crypto culture.

Earlier this week, Franklin Templeton Digital Assets posted a photo on X (formerly known as Twitter) of Benjamin Franklin wearing a hat that closely resembles a uniform at McDonald’s, which Crypto Twitter often portrays as an inevitable job for down-on-their-luck traders when markets are volatile.

“Putting the fries in the bag,” the Wall Street bank said.

What Is Lorazepam In The White Lotus Season 3? Victoria Ratliff’s Pills Explained – SlashFilm

      0
What Is Lorazepam In The White Lotus Season 3? Victoria Ratliff’s Pills Explained – SlashFilm

Mike White’s globe-trotting anthology series “The White Lotus” has been about rich people behaving badly since the first season dropped in 2021, and now that season 3 is underway, we know that we’re dealing with a whole new group of wealthy weirdos vacationing in Thailand this time around. (The first season took place in Hawaii, and the second was set in Sicily.) Included amongst the revelers visiting the fictional White Lotus in the beautiful Southeast Asian country is the Ratliff family, comprised of father and patriarch Timothy (Jason Isaacs), his wife Victoria (Parker Posey), and their children Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), and Lochlan (Sam Nivola).

In the season 1 premiere “Same Spirits, New Forms,” Victoria spends most of the episode complaining about her jetlag and turning down the hotel’s various wellness opportunities (when Morgana O’Reilly’s hotel staffer Pam offers her a biometric scan to assess her needs, Victoria panics about not wanting to “take a test” and demurs). Later in the episode, she tells Timothy that she got a “second wind” but also tells him not to worry because she took a “lorazepam.” So what is lorazepam, why is Victoria taking it, and how could it come into play later in the season? Well, lorazepam is meant to aid with anxiety disorders … and it’s interesting that Victoria mentioned it so early in the third season’s very first episode.

Victoria is taking anti-anxiety pills in The White Lotus season 3

Even if you’re familiar with the concept of lorazepam and other anti-anxiety drugs that are classified as benzodiazepines, let me refresh your memory a bit with an official definition from the Mayo Clinic. “Lorazepam is used to treat anxiety disorders,” the official site reads. “It is also used for short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety or anxiety caused by depression.” The description also covers benzodiazepines, which “are central nervous system (CNS) depressants, which are medicines that slow down the nervous system.”

What this basically means is that Victoria has anxiety and uses lorazepam, ostensibly prescribed by her doctor, to manage it and keep her nervous system stable in moments when the anxiety gets to be too much. These types of drugs are pretty standard if they’re used according to your doctor’s instructions, and as I noted, they do need to be prescribed by a medical professional. Unfortunately, if not taken properly, people can also become dependent on them. If you’ve ever heard about someone popping’ “benzos,” they’re talking about abusing this form of drug. Okay, so now that we’ve got some of the medical jargon out of the way, why is this related to Victoria on “The White Lotus?”

Well, Victoria brought her lorazepam to Thailand to manage her anxiety … but because of the nature of this show, they feel a bit like Chekhov’s pills, so to speak. Within the first episode, we also learn that her husband Timothy has some shady business dealings that may cause trouble down the line, so specifically mentioning the medication she brought on their vacation certainly feels like Mike White wants us to notice that and keep it in mind; that lorazepam could be used in ill-advised ways before the season draws to a close.

“The White Lotus” airs new episodes every Sunday at 9 P.M. EST on HBO and Max.

New Chinese Blockbuster Just Surpassed Inside Out 2 To Become The Biggest Animated Movie Ever

New Chinese Blockbuster Just Surpassed Inside Out 2 To Become The Biggest Animated Movie Ever

      Screenshot: Beijing Enlight Media

Ne Zha 2, a new Chinese animated movie, has brought in $1.7 billion at the box office and dethroned Pixar’s Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated flick in history.

Released in January, Ne Zha 2 has been on a record-breaking run in China. Earlier this month the animated sequel became the first movie in history to cross $1 billon at the box office in a single market. The movie is currently only showing in mainland China and hasn’t been released internationally. It is also the first non-Hollywood movie to make more than $1 billion in ticket sales. And now it can add “Top-Grossing Animated Movie” to its growing list of records.

As reported by Deadline on February 20, Ne Zha 2 has now made ¥12.47 billion ($1.72 billion USD) at the box office in China since hitting theaters on January 29. That not only beats previous animated box-office champ Inside Out 2, but it also places Ne Zha 2 at number eight on the list of overall highest-grossing movies in history, above blockbuster hits like Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World, and The Avengers. The animated blockbuster, a sequel to 2019’s Ne Zha, is now projected to gross $2.08 billion in China. That would put it at number five on the highest grossers list, beating out Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War.

If Ne Zha 2—an animated movie based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Investiture of the Gods—can reach $2 billion, it will make history as the first movie to ever do so in a single market. It would also be one of only seven films to achieve $2 billion at the box office.

Due to the film’s continued success, Ne Zha 2 will be sticking around in theaters for a bit longer. The movie has been given an extended run in China and will stay in theaters until March 30. It is set to release in Hong Kong later this week.
