Not everyone left Beyoncé’s show feeling on top of the world.

One frustrated fan is speaking out after what they call “the worst concert experience of my life,” claiming they were left completely blindsided, and nearly $700 lighter, during Beyoncé’s recent show at SoFi Stadium.

From distorted sound to shockingly bad seating, the attendee says everything that could go wrong, did.

“It turned out to be a waste of money,” the fan said in a Daily Mail report, noting that while others snagged cheap seats in the nosebleeds “for the same price as a McDonald’s meal,” they opted for pricier seats in the first elevation, just above the floor, for a better view of the superstar’s blockbuster stage.

At $350 per ticket, the fan thought they were investing in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “I wanted to be close to the action and had been advised that these would be better than floor seats because I’d get an amazing view of Bey’s blockbuster stage production,” they said.

“I was confident I’d found two of the best seats in the house,” they explained, despite being tempted to get something cheaper that was more in their budget. “I couldn’t believe that I’d spent $700 for me and my friend to see Bey live, but she is the most awarded artist in Grammy history and has been lauded as the greatest performer to ever grace the stage.”

But the excitement quickly turned to disappointment the moment the show began.

    Bamboozled By Beyoncé?

As Beyoncé kicked things off with “American Requiem,” an usher led the fan to their seat, and the view was anything but flawless.

“Not only was there gigantic scaffolding in front of me blocking half the stage, right next to it was some kind of huge box-shaped structure with people on top that blocked another chunk of my view,” the fan recalled in their Daily Mail piece. “Surely there was some mistake?”

Despite spending hours researching the section on Ticketmaster and third-party sites, even scouring concert photos and customer reviews to ensure the view would be unobstructed, the attendee said there was no warning about blocked sightlines.

“I frantically checked my tickets again to see if there had been some mention of an obstructed view that I’d missed, [but] there wasn’t,” they added. “I felt completely bamboozled.”

The fan said they’ve attended plenty of concerts before and were shocked there was no disclaimer. “They always warn you about obstructed views and the ticket price usually reflects that,” they said.

Fan Slams ‘Cowboy Carter Tour’ Setup

While Beyoncé’s team tried to make up for it by mounting a TV screen to the back of the box, it didn’t help much.

“I’d just traveled an hour (don’t even ask me how much the Uber cost!) and spent $700 for me and my friend to watch Beyoncé on a TV that was smaller than the screens some people have in their home theatres,” the fan fumed.

Adding insult to injury? Half the seats in their “sold-out” section were suddenly empty.

“Apparently, people who had arrived early had complained and were moved,” the fan said. “I tried to do the same and asked a staffer, but it was so loud we could barely communicate. She directed me downstairs, but then the floor staff wouldn’t let us through.”

But the chaos didn’t stop there.

“The stadium speakers were pointed directly at our section, making each one of Beyoncé’s hits deafeningly loud and distorted,” they added. “I’m not trying to sound like the quintessential Karen that complains that the concert is too noisy, but the audio from my seat was so blown out that Bey sounded like she was wailing into a toddler’s plastic karaoke machine at full blast.”

And just when they thought things couldn’t get worse, cue the freezing air conditioning.

“I would’ve been warmer watching the show in an igloo,” the fan joked. “I’m sure the sound quality would be better, too.”

Despite the chaos, the attendees decided to stop fighting and just try to enjoy the show from what they dubbed “the dreaded corral.” But by then, the damage was done.

    Article continues below advertisement

“I’d already missed Bey riding a mechanical bull on stage,” they said. “I didn’t want to spend more time shouting over the music at confused staff members.”

Beyoncé Fan Calls ‘Cowboy Carter Tour’ ‘Worst Concert Experience’

    MEGA

Although Beyoncé was “a master on stage” and “effortlessly powered through song after song,” the fans admit they felt defeated. “If I’d just stayed home, I could’ve watched the concert on YouTube from the comfort of my bed and saved $700.”

They even tried to get a refund through Ticketmaster, but no luck. “I was told there was nothing they could do and that their fine print states that they’re not responsible for the venue screwing up my view.” The only silver lining? A refund of the $114 service fee.

“But that doesn’t exactly make up for the cost of the tickets, transport, and wasted time,” they said.

    Article continues below advertisement

The fan ended their rant with one last sting: “I’ve seen almost every pop star from Beyoncé’s generation in concert, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Britney, JLo, Justin, Miley, Pink, Christina, and this was by far the worst concert experience I’ve ever had.”

Hong Kong’s web3 moment: Blink and you’ll miss it

Hong Kong’s web3 moment: Blink and you’ll miss it

The following is a guest post and opinion from Sandy Peng, Co-Founder of Scroll.

Over 1,000 FinTech companies and nearly 5,000 startups now call Hong Kong home, a 15% jump in just one year. Hong Kong has rapidly transformed into one of Asia’s most dynamic innovation hubs, having just been named the second-most crypto-friendly city in the world, according to a recent report by Multipolitan.

Fueled by proactive government policies, clear regulatory frameworks, and a surge in entrepreneurial activity, it’s positioning itself on the frontline of the global Web3 movement. However, as competitors like Singapore and Dubai accelerate their own digital asset ecosystems, Hong Kong faces a critical juncture: to secure its leadership, it must act swiftly and strategically.

    Government Support & Institutional Interest

Hong Kong’s government has actively positioned the city as a digital asset hub over the past 4 years. A 2022 policy statement laid the groundwork for this, which led to a comprehensive licensing regime for virtual asset trading platforms in 2023.

This support is personified by Web3Hub at Cyberport. Over 270 Web3 firms now operate out of Cyberport — a government-backed tech hub. By offering funding, office space, and regulatory guidance, Cyberport has become a launchpad for Web3 enterprises looking to scale within a supportive regulatory environment.

Major origin countries of non-local founders – startmeup.hk

Major institutions such as HSBC and Standard Chartered have also been pushed by the Hong Kong government to start integrating digital asset solutions into their operations. And The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is leading efforts to integrate blockchain technology with the traditional financial system.

The government has allocated HK$50 million (about $6.4 million) per year to support the development of the Web3 ecosystem, including funding research projects, education programs, and accelerator initiatives.

Regulatory Clarity as a Competitive Advantage

While countries like the United States continue to battle fragmented and often adversarial crypto regulations, Hong Kong is charting a different course, one of clarity, structure, and vision. At Consensus 2024, the SFC launched its ASPIRe Roadmap: a regulatory blueprint built around five pillars – Access, Safeguards, Products, Infrastructure, and Relationships.

This roadmap sets out 12 specific initiatives, from token listings to staking, borrowing, and custody rules, all aimed at creating a resilient, regulated, and innovation-friendly environment. With this move, Hong Kong became one of the first global regulators to reaffirm its “open for Web3 business” stance in a post-SEC Crypto Task Force world.

    China’s Indirect Influence

Beijing is infamous for its implementation of strict anti-crypto regulations — specifically around trading and mining. This has led to suggestions that Hong Kong is serving as a controlled testing ground for digital asset regulations, allowing China to observe the sector’s development without directly engaging in it.

If Hong Kong’s approach proves successful—demonstrating that crypto regulation can coexist with financial stability—it could shape future policies in China. Conversely, if significant risks emerge, Beijing can distance itself from the experiment and adjust its stance accordingly

One area where China and Hong Kong are closely aligned is central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). While China has pushed forward with its Digital Yuan (e-CNY), Hong Kong is working on its own version, e-HKD, under the guidance of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)

So, while Beijing remains skeptical of decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, it sees potential in state-backed blockchain-based financial systems.

    Challenges Ahead

Even with strong support from the government, Hong Kong still faces several real-world challenges before it can call itself the world-leading Web3 hub:

Balancing Regulation and Innovation: Hong Kong’s detailed regulations give companies confidence, especially compared to the unclear regulations in other countries. But some startups worry that strict checks—like tough listing requirements for tokens—might limit what they can do. If innovation feels blocked, some developers may take their ideas elsewhere. However, the recent staking guidance shows that Hong Kong regulators are not just enforcing rules, they’re evolving them to meet the needs of a maturing market.
Tough Global Competition: Hong Kong isn’t the only city aiming to lead in Web3. Singapore, Dubai, and even London are making big moves, offering tax benefits, fast licensing, and innovation zones. If Hong Kong doesn’t keep pace—or better yet, set the pace—it could lose top talent and investment to these rising hubs.
Bridging Old and New Finance: Hong Kong is already a major global hub for traditional finance. Although the government is pushing to bridge the two worlds, traditional banks and blockchain startups often work in very different ways. There could be pushback from the established traditional finance players, and they might have to take a pause on the Web3 push if it risks losing its current status as a powerhouse financial hub.

    Looking Forward

Hong Kong has laid the groundwork to become the Silicon Valley of Web3. But what it does next won’t just shape its own economy, it could influence how the world regulates and builds the decentralized web. The stakes are bigger than headlines or hype.

If the city can balance innovation with stability, openness with oversight, and ambition with execution, it may define the future of finance and the architecture of Web3 itself. But staying ahead means more than momentum. Hong Kong must continue nurturing local talent and encourage traditional finance to evolve alongside Web3 technology, not against it.

The window of opportunity is open now, but it won’t stay open forever.

HoYoverse finally announces Honkai Star Rail x Fate release date with 5-star Archer and 5-star Saber – plus Archer is free

HoYoverse finally announces Honkai Star Rail x Fate release date with 5-star Archer and 5-star Saber – plus Archer is free

HoYoverse finally announced the Honkai Star Rail x Fate collaboration release date during the second HSR concert, including details about which characters will join the space game’s roster. HSR x Fate kicks off on July 11, 2025, in an event called Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail, and it adds two new 5-star characters from the Fate series to HSR’s list of playable characters.

One of them is Saber, a 5-star Destruction character with wind as her element. Saber, aka Artoria Pendragon, is one of Fate’s main characters and first debuted in 2004’s Fate/Stay Night. Saber will run for the usual length of time in a limited event banner. The second Fate character in HSR is Archer, another long-time favorite. Archer is a 5-star Hunt character with quantum as his element, and anyone who logs into Honkai Star Rail during Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail will get him for free.

HoYoverse said the free Archer giveaway will last through the end of Honkai Star Rail 3.6. Based on the game’s current update calendar, that’d be sometime in November 2025. Assuming the free Archer event is like the time HoYoverse gave Dr Ratio away, you’ll probably only need to be at the story’s beginning, at the point where you unlock the warp function.

Saber will have “exciting” interactions with the Trailblaze crew during the event’s associated story missions. Fate writer Kinoko Nasu penned the crossover event’s story, and artist Takashi Takeuchi created the Honkai Star Rail versions of Archer and Saber.

HoYoverse also teased a new Honkai game during the concert, though had no further information to share at the time.

If you’re just tuning in for Honkai Star Rail’s second anniversary, make sure to grab your free Ruan Mei or Luocha while the event lasts. Check out our HSR codes page for some freebies, too.

5 Reasons to Join the BlockDAG Ambassador Program Before the $0.0019 Price Deadline

5 Reasons to Join the BlockDAG Ambassador Program Before the alt=

As BlockDAG gains momentum across the crypto space, its Ambassador Program is turning heads for more than just community outreach. With the current presale price of $0.0019 only valid until May 13, the window for early involvement is closing fast. After that, BDAG will jump to $0.0262 in Batch 28, marking a major price step in its multistage rollout. For those looking to earn rewards, gain influence, and lead within a high-growth Layer 1 ecosystem, this program offers one of the most practical entry points in Web3.

More than just a referral system, the BlockDAG Ambassador Program is a structured initiative built to reward developers, creators, and crypto advocates with token incentives, private access, real-world networking, and a chance to help shape a next-generation PoW blockchain platform. With over $225 million raised in presale, the program is designed to scale alongside the core ecosystem.

Here’s what makes it stand out.

A Tiered System for Every Level of Contributor

The program isn’t limited to influencers or seasoned developers. BlockDAG offers three ambassador tiers designed for different levels of experience and commitment:

BlockDAG Explorer (entry-level): Engage on social media, share content, and participate in online events. Perfect for new crypto users or BDAG holders looking to do more.BlockDAG Advocate (mid-tier): Host virtual meetups, create educational content, and moderate chats. Advocates play a key role in onboarding new users and developers.BlockDAG Champion (senior-level): Lead regional hubs, organize conferences, and represent BlockDAG at global events. Champions mentor lower-tier ambassadors and engage directly with the core team.

This structure gives contributors a clear pathway to grow their involvement, take on leadership, and earn higher-tier rewards.

A Tiered System for Every Level of Contributor

Earn BDAG Tokens, USDT Bonuses, and Physical Perks

Contributors are rewarded with BDAG tokens for completing tasks and hitting key milestones, giving them direct exposure to the network’s long-term upside. The earlier participants join, the more favorable their reward terms can be.

In addition, leading performers may receive USDT stipends, a rare move in ambassador programs that shows BlockDAG’s willingness to back meaningful contributions with real value.

Physical and digital perks are also available, including exclusive swag, digital badges, and NFTs only available to ambassadors. Participation unlocks real benefits beyond just wallet growth.

Direct Access to the Core Team and Early Updates

Ambassadors aren’t treated like outsiders. Once accepted, they’re invited to private Discord and Telegram channels, where they can engage directly with BlockDAG developers, project leaders, and ecosystem partners.

Direct Access to the Core Team and Early UpdatesDirect Access to the Core Team and Early Updates

This early access goes beyond just chatting. Ambassadors often get sneak peeks into roadmap items, testnet updates, and product releases, including features related to the Primordial Testnet, BlockDAG mining rigs, and upcoming dApps.

Being part of the inner circle allows ambassadors to shape how features are rolled out and how the wider community understands and uses them.

    Training, Tools, and Developer Resources

New ambassadors aren’t left to figure things out on their own. BlockDAG provides a full onboarding experience that includes:

Developer tools like contract wizards, testnet access, and an integrated IDEContent templates and branding kits for creatorsCommunity playbooks for event organizers and moderatorsStrategy sessions and training workshops

This makes it easy for ambassadors to operate effectively, whether they’re growing a Telegram channel, onboarding developers, or hosting study groups.

The goal isn’t just to promote BDAG, but to build competent operators who can drive meaningful adoption of the platform.

A Deadline To Not Miss: $0.0019 Price Ends May 13

Right now, BDAG is priced at just $0.0019 in its presale, but that price is only valid until May 13. After that, the next presale batch, Batch 28, will see the token priced at $0.0262. That’s a sharp increase and reflects growing demand as more community programs like the Ambassador initiative go live.

The difference between the current and upcoming price points means participants at today’s level are already sitting on over 1,200% upside before even reaching launch. For ambassadors, this multiplier effect enhances every token earned and increases the value of early engagement.

A Deadline To Not Miss: $0.0019 Price Ends May 13A Deadline To Not Miss: $0.0019 Price Ends May 13

Whether you’re a community leader, a developer, or just someone excited about the BDAG ecosystem, joining now offers more upside than waiting.

How to Join and What to Expect

The application process is simple but selective. Applicants are required to provide:

Real name and verified contact detailsSocial media profiles (Twitter, Telegram, etc.)A short description of their blockchain experience and community involvementA plan for how they’ll help grow the BlockDAG network

Fake submissions and AI-generated responses are disqualified automatically, and only serious contributors will be considered.

Once accepted, ambassadors receive onboarding instructions, early access links, and their first set of goals. From there, every contribution brings rewards and opportunities to rise through the program tiers.

    Key Takeaways

What makes the BlockDAG Ambassador Program different is its focus on authentic engagement, structured growth, and the ability to convert effort into long-term value. As the network rolls out mining infrastructure, multi-chain dApps, and a high-speed DAG-based PoW consensus model, the role of the community becomes central to adoption.

For early participants, it’s a chance to be part of something that’s not just technically advanced, but community-led from the ground up. With the presale price of $0.0019 set to end soon and the next tier launching at $0.0262, the time to act is now. Whether you’re looking to earn, lead, or just connect with like-minded builders, the BlockDAG Ambassador Program is one of the most rewarding ways to get involved.

Inside Kaye Adams’ romance with partner of 30 years – ‘no contact’ confession, difficult dilemma and why they have never married

Kaye Adams is a TV legend – but who is her partner? And why have they never got married?

The beloved journalist and presenter, 62, has been a staple on screens for years. From stints on Loose Women to Strictly Come Dancing, she has kept herself busy.

But away from the TV shows, Kaye – who is on Celebrity Bridge of Lies today (May 3) – is loved-up with her partner Ian Campbell.

Kaye has been in a long-term relationship for more than three decades (Credit: ITV)

Kaye Adams on her ‘unconventional’ partner

Since Kaye has been in the spotlight, she has been in a relationship with partner Ian Campbell – but he rarely makes public appearances.

The pair first met when he was her tennis coach more than 30 years ago, and it took them eight years before they decided to have kids and settle down due to Ian’s “unconventional” attitude.

Kaye and Ian are parents to Charley, 23, and 18-year-old Bonnie.

“When we first met Ian was in his late twenties working as a tennis coach, spending half his life in Italy and half in Scotland, and he was not a man going to settle down,” she told The Mirror.

Why haven’t Kaye and Ian got married?

And despite being together for three decades, Kaye and Ian haven’t walked down the aisle.

Kaye explained: “He’s an unconventional person and I didn’t have any great thoughts of settling down at that stage either. It was just a relationship that carried on and carried on, very happily, and maybe we just passed the point of getting married.”

The TV star then did admit she “wouldn’t say no” if Ian Campbell did propose.

“If Ian wants to pop the question and I get a decent ring and a good holiday out of it I wouldn’t say no!” she quipped.

Kaye also went on to share that she’s “very happy” with their relationship and as a result, doesn’t feel the need to get married to prove their commitment.

      Kaye’s ‘no contact’ confession

Meanwhile, in May 2024 Kaye revealed on Loose Women that she could go several days without saying a word to Ian.

“I could easily go 24 hours, 48 hours without having any contact with Ian,” she said. Kaye then added: “A whole two days. Sometimes three.”

Her co-star Frankie Bridge replied: “You must have a very trusting and secure relationship I think to be able to be like that.”

Kaye Adams on her difficult dilemma

Late last year, Kaye gave another insight into her romance with Ian on her How to Be 60 podcast. The presenter shared that Ian wished to leave the UK for Spain for a part of the year. But Kaye was not too keen on the idea and was unsure of what to do.

Kate said: “I’m still questioning that thing I said the other week that Ian wants to spend two months a year in Spain.”

Fellow host Karen Mackenzie replied: “Oh my God, I thought about this and I have no idea why you are even questioning it. Look at the weather we have had here in August and September, it is dire. Have you thought about what’s behind this reluctance? Is it about missing out on work here?”

Karen added: “Do you think once you’re off the telly here, that’s it, they’ll forget about you? They might do, because let’s face it, you’re always replaceable.”

Kaye went on to confess she “doesn’t know” why the concept of living in Spain isn’t appearing to her. However, she didn’t rule it out and said she might be a “slow burner” but she “may come around” to the idea.

Watch Kaye on Celebrity Bridge of Lies on Saturday (May 3) at 5:40pm on BBC One.

Where to Find & Catch Yellowfin Tuna in Palia

Where to Find & Catch Yellowfin Tuna in Palia

There are various fish types in Palia that players can catch while doing the Fishing Guild. Catching common and rare fish is the crucial step of leveling up the Fishing Guild to unlock advanced versions of the Fishing Rod as well as new items and crafting recipes at the Fishing Guild Store. One of the common fish that players can get in the midgame is the Yellowfin Tuna. This guide will walk you through where to find and catch Yellowfin Tuna in Palia.

Where to Find Yellowfin Tuna in Palia

Yellowfin Tuna can be found in the coastal areas of Bahari Bay at any time of the day. There are several spots in Bahari Bay where you can fish in the coastal areas. One of the best fishing spots to find Yellowfin Tuna is the pier of The Old Lighthouse on the eastern edge of Bahari Bay.

How to Catch the Yellowfin Tuna in Palia

Upon reaching the pier of The Old Lighthouse, look for a fishing bubble in the water. After that, equip the Fishing Rod tool and cast the line inside the bubble while equipping a Glow Worm as bait.

NOTE: Glow Worm bait is mandatory for catching the Yellowfin Tuna. Make sure to equip the Glow Worm Bait on the fishing rod before casting the line into the water.

Once done, wait for the bobber to shake three times. As the bobber starts to move after the third shake, reel in the fish by holding the Left-Click Button and moving the mouse to keep the fish inside the brackets to catch the fish. However, it can take you a few tries to catch Yellowfin Tuna as there are other fish and junk items in the coastal area.

Uses of Yellowfin Tuna in Palia

Players can sell the Yellowfin Tuna fish for 100 Gold (Base) or 150 Gold (Star Quality) to Zeki or at the Shipping Bin. Moreover, you can also gift it to certain villagers who like it or those who need it. The weekly needs for all villagers change every week, so keep an eye out. It is best to catch and store one in the storage so that you can hand it over when someone needs it.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Review | TheXboxHub

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Review | TheXboxHub

      A Belle Epoque Turn-Based Beauty

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been on my radar for a while now, ever since I first caught a glimpse at one of the many Microsoft and Xbox showcases. I think it was the combination of a beautiful art style and stunning turn based combat that made me sit up and pay attention.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is the product of Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive, but I guess the main question that needs answering in this review then, is whether the game has kept those features that first attracted me all those months ago. And if it has, what accompanies proceedings.

Well, at risk of minor spoilers, the answer is yes – to pretty much everything. So, come with me to the world of The Paintress as we try to figure out what she is doing. Best make sure you’re 32 or under, though!

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review 1
      Heading off on Expedition 33?

A Glimpse into Brilliance: First Impressions of Expedition 33

I have to go straight to the presentation first of all, as the news here is stunning.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is absolutely beautiful to look at, with so many French influences on display that I’m amazed the main character isn’t wearing a stripy jumper, smoking a Gauloises. The game gives many nods to the Belle Epoque period of history, and the way the buildings and even the outfits for the characters are designed just oozes style.

The cutscenes that we watch (and if anything, there are slightly too many: it’s a bit Metal Gear Solid IV in here) are amazingly well directed and animated, and the voice acting is among some of the best I’ve heard. The various locales that are visited all have a strong identity and look wildly different too, from the cityscapes of the prologue to a weird upside down sea (it’ll make sense when you see it). There’s no debating that the design and implementation of the artistic vision is bang on.

And then, the enemies we fight are well done too, with very different looks and weak points. All in all, the graphics and look of the game is on point.

      A Symphony of Sound

Sound is also worthy of extreme praise. The voice acting is brilliant, yet a special mention has to go to the music, which again fits the game perfectly. I’ve wasted many minutes just listening to the music on the gramophone at the campsite, it is that good. Battle sounds are also great, and getting battered by an enemy or unleashing a crunching counter both are wince inducing. Everything here is top notch.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review 2Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review 2
      A bit of a curse…

      The Paintress’s Curse

But, we need a narrative to be equally as strong, and luckily it is. The Paintress, once a year, awakens and paints a new number on her monolith: when she does, everyone who is older than the number disappears in a ceremony called “The Gommage”. She has been doing this for over 70 years, and has now painted “33”.

Each year, a new expedition is launched to try and put an end to this, but none has succeeded so far; and the world is starting to run out of people. We form Expedition 33 and set off, and while the prologue has some surprisingly emotional moments (even a cynical old sod like me was moved at the beginning), it is when we reach the continent that things really kick off.

In a few words, the story is excellent and really keeps you guessing through to the conclusion. But, as always, no spoilers here.

      Strategic Exploration and Turn-Based Tactics

Now, onto the game itself, and here the news continues to be fantastic – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 plays extremely well indeed.

The game is primarily an exploration-based affair, with turn-based combat thrown in, and the juxtaposition between the two is very well judged. As we roam around, enemies can be seen, either on the world map or in any of the locations that we explore, and running up to them with a swift poke of the RB button will let us engage in combat with the upper hand. Alternatively, you can get around the enemies without fighting, but where’s the fun in that?

Exploring around the place will let us find new things to equip, mainly weapons, but also Pictos, which allows the opportunity to learn new skills. They also give each character a passive effect. Being able to equip up to three Pictos means it is worth tweaking your loadout to ensure you are as buff as possible. Once you unlock the camp, then weapons can be strengthened, and as we battle and level up, there are not only skill points to spend, but also attribute points to make your character stronger. Each attribute also affects the weaponry, scaling with certain attributes, so you can make your attacks more powerful if you pick the right attributes to level up. The system is deep, but very simple to pick up, thanks to some well placed tutorials.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review 3Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review 3
      A stunning game

      Dodging, Parrying, and Tactical Timing

The other side of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the combat, and again, this is amongst some of the best I’ve seen in recent years.

The basic system allows you to pick either an attack, a skill, or an item, and if you have played a turn based game before, these should be pretty self explanatory. However, it is in the finer details where this one shines. For instance, if an enemy attacks you, you can choose to dodge the attack or to try and parry it: dodging is easier, and if you time it just right, you’ll execute a perfect dodge. The timing for this is the same as it is for parrying, so once you are happy with the enemy’s timings (and they are all different, obviously) then a successful parry will not only negate damage, but can also trigger a powerful counterattack. This is amazing to watch and pull off, especially when the whole team counters.

Further, while attacking, there are button prompts to follow, and getting the timing right there can make all the difference; a perfect timing will do more damage and even more attacks, so it is worth practicing. Honestly, there is so much more to the battle system than this, but I’ll just leave it there and confirm that everything is great fun.

A Stunning and Captivating Turn-Based Adventure

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stunning game. It is emotional, beautiful and utterly captivating. And that all means it is an absolute no-brainer as to whether you should be playing.

Why Everyone In Severance Drives Old Cars, According To The Show’s Creator – SlashFilm

Why Everyone In Severance Drives Old Cars, According To The Show’s Creator – SlashFilm

The world of “Severance” might look similar to our own, but a closer peek at its technology adds layers to the show’s central mystery. The most glaringly obvious example of this is the computers used by the Microdata Refinement (MDR) team on the severed floor at Lumon Industries, which appear more retrofuturistic than dystopian. This might not make sense at first, as Lumon has mastered the ethically dubious, highly controversial severance procedure, highlighting the technological leaps that have already been achieved by this society. But the computers used to carry out the “mysterious and important” work at Lumon aren’t sleek or ergonomic — they’re nostalgic, almost surreal in design, with a bulky trackball lodged beside the dual-toned keyboard. The narrative themes of corporate hegemony and manipulation (which were partly inspired by “The Stanley Parable”) can be gleaned solely from these designs, as these keyboards feature every button except CTRL and ESC.

Another jarring bit of technology we see at Lumon is the psychological torture device in the Break Room, which doesn’t look threatening or ominous at first glance. The mood is set right after an employee enters, as they are met with a long, dark hallway that is barely wide enough for one person. This induced anxiety and claustrophobia is followed by a simple setup: a dimly lit table set up that looks like an interrogation chamber, with a transparent projector screen displaying the words that need to be spoken over and over. There are no sophisticated probes/machines used to hurt the employee, but a horrible psychological tactic is used to ensure that even the strongest minds break and shatter. Once again, a false sense of security is created via a technological setup that evokes twisted nostalgia and ominous simplicity.

However, this technological dissonance exists even outside Lumon, as every character is seen driving cars that can only be termed old-school and retro. Series creator Dan Erickson shed some light on this important worldbuilding detail, so let’s unpack it.

Severance’s old tech is deliberately used to evoke confusion and ambiguity

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Erickson explained why the presence of old tech in the show is intentional, to the point that Lumon’s hold over its employees subtly extends to the outside world. For starters, the retrofuturistic tech “looks cool” as an aesthetic choice, but the old-style computers on the severed floor are mostly used to disorient severed employees from a definite sense of time and space:

“I will say that I do think it looks cool, whether there’s another layer behind that. There’s always a sense of being a little bit out of time and space. And that starts on the severed floor, because down there, the technology is intentionally kind of older — in part because you can’t really have anything down there that would give a cell phone signal or an internet signal. But also because there is a sense of wanting to unmoor workers and have them not necessarily know what year it is outside, or where they live outside. And so we wanted to extend some of that ambiguity to the outside from the viewer’s perspective.”

While older technology shuts down the possibility of using WiFi or Bluetooth to facilitate contact with the outside world, it also introduces confusion in an innie’s perception of the reality they live in. This deliberate dissonance doesn’t stop there, as Lumon’s shadow creeps all over the town, signifying the covert surveillance techniques such corporations employ to keep their workforce in line. This controlled hold over socio-cultural trends and the lives of its employees manifests in the kind of cars that these characters end up driving, including Harmony Cobel’s (Patricia Arquette) 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit and Mark Scout’s (Adam Scott) 1997 Volvo 960.

Moreover, Lumon’s corrosive influence extends way beyond its corporate buildings: It’s present in its birthing cabins, company-owned factory towns, and even when you chat with your neighbor, who you think is devoid of ulterior motives. As Erickson puts it, it’s “a slightly skewed version of our reality” where the notions of time, space, and scientific progress are consciously warped to suit a corrupt mega-corporation’s whims.

The first two seasons of “Severance” are available to stream on Apple TV+.

This week saw gaming website Polygon sold to Valnet, the company that owns Screen Rant and Game Rant among other sites, and many of its staffers laid off. Meanwhile publication at another gaming site, Giant Bomb, is currently on hold as owner Fandom engages in what it calls a “strategic reset and realignment of our media brands” and some staffers suggest the company has interfered with the site’s content and its famously irreverent tone.

Elsewhere, Microsoft announced that Xbox consoles were going up in price, effective immediately, and that by this holiday season, we can expect higher prices on Xbox games as well. And we got a closer look at Borderlands 4 via a new PlayStation State of Play presentation. Read on for all the details on these stories and more.
