Treasury Secretary Bessent Blasts Senate for Blocking GENIUS Stablecoin Bill – Decrypt

Treasury Secretary Bessent Blasts Senate for Blocking GENIUS Stablecoin Bill – Decrypt

In brief

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the Senate’s failure to advance the GENIUS Act a missed chance to secure U.S. leadership in stablecoin regulation.
The bill collapsed after last-minute Democratic defections, driven by concerns over rushed revisions and regulatory gaps.
Industry leaders, including Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, say crypto remains a legislative priority, with renewed efforts expected as early as next week.

The Senate’s decision to block the GENIUS Act on Thursday drew immediate condemnation from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who warned the vote could jeopardize the U.S.’s position in the global digital assets race.

“For stablecoins and other digital assets to thrive globally, the world needs American leadership,” Bessent posted on X. “The Senate missed an opportunity to provide that leadership today by failing to advance the GENIUS Act.”

The bill, designed to establish a federal regulatory framework for issuing stablecoins, failed to pass a procedural vote on Thursday after key Senate Democrats moved to stonewall it.

Though it had enjoyed bipartisan support earlier this year, Democrats pulled back in the final hours, citing concerns over national security, anti-money laundering provisions, and the sudden introduction of new language.

‘Once in a generation’

Bessent called the GENIUS Act “a once-in-a-generation opportunity to expand dollar dominance and U.S. influence in financial innovation.”

Without it, he said, “stablecoins will be subject to a patchwork of state regulations instead of a streamlined federal framework.”

The defeat of the GENIUS Act has cast uncertainty over stablecoin oversight and the broader effort to pass digital asset legislation ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, when every House seat and a third of the Senate will be contested.

“The world is watching while American lawmakers twiddle their thumbs,” Bessent wrote. “Either step up and lead or watch digital asset innovation move offshore.”

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), one of several Democrats who voted to block the bill, said it was incomplete.

“I simply cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to vote for this legislation when the text isn’t yet finished,” Warner said in a statement on Thursday.

Others pointed to political tensions sparked by recent crypto-related endorsements from President Donald Trump, which some lawmakers saw as undermining the bill’s credibility.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has continuously warned that advancing the legislation without safeguards would “aid and abet Trump’s corruption.”

Still, hopes for a revival remain.

A crypto policy leader told Decrypt the bill could return to the floor as early as next week, but admitted the prospects were uncertain.

Sen. Warner also pointed to that timeline, saying he hopes the Senate can “start floor consideration next week” once the revised text is finalized and colleagues have had time to review it.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), a longtime advocate for digital asset policy, called the bill’s failure a serious setback.

“Make no mistake, digital assets are the future and America must lead the way,” she tweeted Thursday, while thanking her pro-crypto colleagues.

While the GENIUS Act stalled, industry voices say the larger push for crypto regulation remains a top priority for lawmakers and industry leaders alike.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong tweeted how “both sides care deeply about getting clear rules for crypto and getting it right,” adding after years of being sidelined, “crypto isn’t just at the table, it’s at the top of the agenda.”

How to Build a Web3 dApp: Step-by-Step Guide | NFT News Today

How to Build a Web3 dApp: Step-by-Step Guide | NFT News Today

Learn how to build your first Web3 dApp and gain a better understanding of decentralized technology while at the same time giving users transparent and secure interactions. This quick guide covers everything from planning your app to connecting a finished frontend.

Key Takeaways

Identifying your dApp’s core purpose and audience helps shape a clear development path.

Popular choices like Node.js, Hardhat, and Solidity streamline the coding workflow.

Writing, compiling, and testing smart contracts ensures reliable on-chain functionality.

A React or similar frontend framework links user actions to blockchain interactions.

Deployment on testnets before mainnet helps iron out any issues.

What Is a Web3 dApp?

A Web3 decentralized application (dApp) is built on blockchain technology, allowing direct interaction between users and smart contracts without the need for centralized intermediaries. By leveraging these distributed networks, a dApp offers a transparent and tamper-resistant approach to digital services, from financial tools to gaming ecosystems.

Step 1: Plan Your dApp

Begin by outlining the main features of your dApp and identifying its target audience. Highlight specific features like token issuance, NFT functionality or other blockchain-enabled components. Outline the core value proposition and how your dApp will use decentralization to provide a unique experience.

Step 2: Choose Tools and Frameworks

Choosing the right stack is key to a smooth development process. Here are some common tools to consider:

Node.js and NPM: Manage project dependencies and scripts.

Hardhat or Truffle: Smart contract development, deployment and testing.

Solidity: The go-to programming language for Ethereum smart contracts.

MetaMask: Popular wallet integration for user authentication and transactions.

React.js or Similar: Build a responsive and interactive frontend interface.

These tools work together to make coding easier and blockchain interactions simpler.

Step 3: Set Up the Development Environment

After picking your toolkit, initialize your project and install the necessary dependencies. Below is an example using Node.js and Hardhat:

mkdir

If you prefer Truffle, install it globally:

npm install -g truffle

Once the setup is complete, you’ll have a directory structure ready for coding and deployment.

Step 4: Write and Compile a Smart Contract

Smart contracts form the backbone of any blockchain-based application. Here’s a simple Solidity example:

Compile your contract with Hardhat:

npx hardhat compile

If using Truffle, you can run:

truffle compile

This step validates your code and prepares the artifacts needed for deployment.

Step 5: Deploy the Smart Contract

Launch a local development blockchain, such as the Hardhat built-in network:

npx hardhat node

Create and run a deployment script:

npx hardhat run scripts/deploy.js –network localhost

For real-world testing, deploy to a testnet (e.g., Ropsten, Rinkeby, or Goerli) through a provider like Alchemy or Infura. This way you can test transactions, interactions and performance before moving to the Ethereum mainnet.

Step 6: Build the Frontend

A user-friendly interface is vital. Choose a library or framework, such as React.js, to organize your UI components. Install a JavaScript library like Ethers.js or Web3.js to interact with your deployed contracts:

<

Use your contract’s ABI and address to instantiate a contract instance. This enables functions like increment() to be called directly from your dApp’s user interface.

Step 7: Test and Iterate

Run thorough checks on both the contract logic and the frontend user journey. Start with your local network, then move on to a public testnet. Monitor transactions and confirm wallet interactions. After that, you should verify the results on a block explorer. Finally, adjust contract functions and UI elements to ensure a seamless experience.

Step 8: Launch

Once you’re confident in your dApp, deploy your smart contract to the Ethereum mainnet. Host your frontend using services like GitHub Pages or a cloud provider. Remember to keep your contract’s address and ABI accessible, so any updates to the frontend can be synced quickly.

Real-World Use Cases

Many successful dApps demonstrate how to build a Web3 dApp for a range of scenarios:

DeFi Platforms: Enable lending, borrowing, and yield-farming on decentralized networks.

NFT Marketplaces: Allow users to mint, buy, and sell digital art and collectibles.

Blockchain Gaming: Introduce NFTs for in-game assets and unique player items.

DAO Governance: Facilitate transparent voting systems and collective decision-making.

These examples underscore the versatility of dApps in delivering trust and ownership.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need coding experience to develop a dApp?

A: Basic programming knowledge is helpful, especially in JavaScript and Solidity. Tutorials, documentation and online forums can help beginners.

Q: Which blockchain should I use for my first dApp?

A: Ethereum is a popular choice because of the large developer community and tooling support. But alternatives like Polygon, Binance Smart Chain or Avalanche can also be considered.

Q: How can I manage deployment costs?

A: Testing on local and public test networks helps to optimize gas usage. Gas optimization strategies like refining contract logic can further reduce costs on mainnet.

Q: What wallet options are best for users?

A: MetaMask is widely accepted but alternatives like WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet and others that offer easy integration.

Q: Can I modify my smart contract after deployment?

A: Traditional smart contracts are immutable. If upgradability is needed, look into proxy contracts or frameworks like OpenZeppelin for upgradeable contract patterns.

Conclusion

By following these steps and best practices, you’ll be able to build a Web3 dApp with confidence. From drafting your project blueprint to refining the user interface, every step is crucial to create a truly decentralized, reliable and user-driven solution. Enjoy the growth of blockchain innovation as you continue to learn and improve.

Are they together? Are they working on being a couple again? Or are they just really great friends and co-parents to their son? These are questions fans would love answers to, and perhaps some answers will come to the surface when season 2 is released next week on Hulu.

When PEOPLE approached the subject of their relationship, Paul said, it “depends on the day.”

“I feel like right now, we are individually working on ourselves and trying to heal, for not only ourselves, but for our son. So that’s been the main focus the last few months, last half of a year,” she said. “But to me, I don’t know, I never say never, but right now it’s just individually trying to heal and work on things we needed to work on.”

Recent Photos Were Confusing But Have Since Been Deleted

Just a week or so ago, both Paul and Mortensen had some photos of the two of them together at Stagecoach looking super cozy and comfortable. They have since been deleted from both their Instagram pages.

The carousel the photos were in on Instagram is still up but the photos in question are now gone. The post on Paul’s Instagram is captioned, “I never let my heart go all the way…with my cast mates and co parents. Thank you @stagecoach for having us.

Co-parenting with Mortensen has been a bit more of a “struggle” for Paul.

“Obviously, there’s still feelings involved,” she explained. “There’s not wanting this but needing this to happen.”

5 biggest bombshells from part 2 of Molly-Mae Hague’s documentary – from truth about Tommy Fury romance to her horror accident

The second part of Molly-Mae Hague‘s Behind It All documentary drops on Prime Video today (Friday, May 9), but if fans were hoping to see a romantic reunion with Tommy Fury, then they will be disappointed.

While Molly-Mae confirms that she and Tommy are back together, he rarely appears in the final three episodes of the series. And, when he does appear, it’s mostly via FaceTime or over the phone.

Regardless, it’s clear the influencer has a lot of love for her on/off beau, as does their adorable little girl Bambi.

The three new episodes focus almost entirely on Molly’s feelings for Tommy and trying to sift through the wreckage of their romance to salvage it, all while dealing with her family’s animosity towards him following their split.

So, as the second part of the documentary, Molly-Mae: Behind It All, drops, here’s five of the biggest shocks from the show…

Molly-Mae documentary shocks – her sister is brutal!

Molly and her elder sister Zoe Rae are as close as best friends, if not even closer. And that means that Molly (usually) listens to her advice.

While Molly didn’t listen to Zoe’s concerns about getting back with Tommy (more on that later), she did pay attention when her big sis told her she was ruining her face. And the conversation came about when Zoe and the girls’ mum Debbie heard a famous celeb slagging Molly off in the loos of an event she was hosting.

Speaking to the camera, Zoe revealed: “At the Beauty Works event, my mum and I were in the toilets. Someone else famous actually was in there, talking about her and how bad her face looked and how much work she’d had done to her face.

“And then me and my mum walked out and the person was a bit taken aback that we’d listened to the whole conversation,” she said.

However, rather than having it out with her sister’s critic, Zoe agreed with them, and stepped in, telling Molly to “stop”.

“I completely agree with them. She did look silly, and had far too much filler in her face. I must’ve said to her at some point: ‘This needs to stop. You need to sort this out.’”

After footage of her having her fillers dissolved, Molly said: “Thank god for my sister. I could’ve genuinely just destroyed my face.”

‘I feel like you actually hate me’

She wasn’t exactly saying “thank god for my sister”, though, when Zoe shared her true feelings on the Tommy situation.

After a video of Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury snogging on New Year’s Eve hit the papers, a livid Zoe confronted her sister.

“What about you then? Getting me to babysit then snogging Tommy on the hour,” the eldest sister said.

“Right, that isn’t what happened and you know it,” Molly fired back, before telling the camera: “I can tell Zoe is just over it all. We’re the closest and she’s finding the whole emotional rollercoaster extremely hard.”

Zoe continued to quiz Molly, asking her if she regretted the kiss, or felt embarrassed about it.

What about you then? Getting me to babysit then snogging Tommy on the hour.

“No, I own it. I only feel awkward with you because I know how you feel about things as you’re protective of me and you’re quite strong with your feelings,” she told her.

“Because I’m the one who picks up the pieces,” said Zoe. She then said sadly: “I never know whether they’re on good terms or bad terms and I never know if I can just pop round and see Bambi because he might be there.”

Molly then warned her: “You’re actually driving a distance between us.”

Speaking to camera again, Zoe said: “I would always 100% be there for her. But I do worry about my relationship with her if they were to get back together.”

To Molly, she then shared: “I feel like you actually hate me.”

      Molly-Mae’s mum had concerns too

Zoe wasn’t the only family member expressing concern over a potential reunion, so too was mum Debbie.

Appearing emotional, she said: “Part of me would like them to be back as a family but with certain changes.

“I would hate for them to get back together and for her to have any emotional upheaval, worries, concerns,” she added, before concluding: “If they get back together, I would want it to be without the dramas.”

Her comments came after Tommy revealed he let alcohol “ruin” his relationship.

      Molly’s horse-riding accident

During the second part of the series, Molly revealed she wanted to learn to horse ride. However, the star was thrown off her horse in shocking scenes that saw her slammed against a fence and fearing she needed to go to the hospital.

In the scenes, Molly is seen riding the horse around a paddock, with the help of an instructor.

As the horse started to speed up and become uncontrollable, she screamed: “I’m scared, I’m scared!”

The horse then rearer up, Molly was thrown into the air and then into a fence. The camera then went shaky and Molly was asked: “Are you alright, are you alright? Have you hurt yourself? Can you breathe?”

The camera then panned to the star, who was kneeling on the floor. “Yeah, I’m okay,” she finally said.

“Do you want to get back on?” she was asked.

“I don’t know. I’m just happy to be alive. When I went down all I saw was black and I thought, hospital job.”

Later, she shared an update on her injuries: “My [bleep] cheek is not okay, though, it’s so sore, it’s going to be black.”

She then added how Tommy is always concerned when she goes riding and urges her to be careful around the animals.

Tommy Fury on the red carpet

Perhaps not so shocking… The reunion

Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae  tell each other “I love you” during one pretty sweet part of the show while chatting on FaceTime. While on the phone, she tells him to book them a romantic getaway. They ended up flying to Dubai, on what was dubbed a make-or-break holiday.

“Dubai was picture-perfect. It was the best trip ever,” Molly said, confirming that it was make, rather than break.

“It felt like everything I wanted it to be and more. And it was exactly what we needed I think. All the noise just switched off, everyone’s opinions. It was just us, in our bubble. Bambi had the best time ever, she keeps asking to go back.”

      ‘All I’ve ever wanted’

Sharing a relationship update, Molly then said: “Things are looking so much better for us. I’m going to start spending more time at Tommy’s house, keeping things slow and not rushing anything, but as always I don’t think it’s going to be a plain-sailing future. We are going to have bumps.”

Looking to the future, she shared: “The dream is still the same, that we get to a place where one day we will be happy in that house together and have more children and hopefully just have a nice happy life together. That’s all I’ve ever wanted for us.

“I don’t want to get too excited, but I’m getting glimmers of what I’ve always wanted, and that’s my family. I do have something that I think is worth saving. But you never know what’s round the corner,” she said as the credits, and clips from their family holiday, brought the documentary to an end.

Final Thoughts on the Best Milestone Watches

The perfect milestone watch achieves multiple objectives simultaneously: it delivers immediate satisfaction, serves as a daily companion, visually communicates achievement without ostentation, and establishes foundation for future heritage. Beyond the specific models highlighted here, the ideal timepiece for marking significant life events should align with the recipient’s personal style, practical needs, and the nature of the achievement being celebrated.

When selected thoughtfully, these wearable milestones become more than mere possessions – they transform into physical embodiments of life’s pivotal moments, accumulating both memories and patina with each passing year. Their mechanical hearts continue beating through life’s subsequent chapters, creating the possibility of eventual transition into family heirlooms that carry stories and significance across generations.

Palworld Fans Slam Nintendo: Recent Game-Changing Patch Tied to Nintendo Lawsuit

Palworld Fans Slam Nintendo: Recent Game-Changing Patch Tied to Nintendo Lawsuit

      Summary

Nintendo’s lawsuit against Palworld has pushed the developer to remove the ability to glide using a Pal.

Furthermore, previous changes to gameplay were made to address Nintendo’s claims as well.

This is all because Nintendo claims Palworld infringes on Pokémon with its gameplay.

The recent Nintendo lawsuit against the Palworld developer, PocketPair, has been raging for some time. Although much has been away from the public eye, the recent Palworld update that changed a significant part of the game proves the lawsuit is anything but calming down.

Although initial reports and some ongoing misconceptions think the Pals are the issue, with many pointing out how similar the 3D models of the Pals were to Nintendo’s own Pokémon, the lawsuit has actually been aimed at mechanics and gameplay, as Pokémon inspire Palworld in more ways than just character design.

If Stardew Valley is so good, where’s Stardew Valley 2?

As revealed in a recent tweet, an earlier November patch aimed to address some of Nintendo’s core allegations. To address the Pals directly coming out of the Pal Spheres that contain them, Palworld changed it so that Pals spawn at your feet to eliminate the similarities to Pokémon and Poké balls.

The most recent patch addresses yet another potential issue for the lawsuit. You will no longer be able to glide on Pals through the air across the open world, as according to Pocketpair, that is also a concern in the ongoing litigation.

Although you’ll still be able to glide throughout the air in the game, you’ll no longer be able to use a Pal to do so. Instead, you’ll be gliding through the air on a glider, akin to what’s in games like Breath Of The Wild.

Pocketpair’s tweet states that “these changes are necessary in order to prevent further disruptions to the development of Palworld.” The phrasing even suggests that Nintendo’s legal team is pushing Pocketpair to make these changes.

How can Nintendo assert that gliding through the world with a Pal encroaches on their property? It seems as though many fans agree that this claim is insane, with the most common reply to the announcement being the typical “f* Nintendo”.

By extension, many fans say they’ll no longer purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 after Nintendo’s recent actions degraded the experience of one of their favorite games. One tweet has stated:

“Not buying a Switch 2, not buying more Nintendo or Pokémon products. Digimon was always better anyways.”

The most common reaction seems to be flat-out confusion — people questioning “Gliding with your pal is patented?” or “How is Pokémon/Nintendo even allowed to do this?”

Honestly, this confusion makes the most sense. From films like Avatar (ironically, both the James Cameron film and The Last Airbender) to games like Panzer Dragoon, Hogwarts Legacy, and Horizon Forbidden West, riding on a massive beast is anything but uncommon throughout media.

So the question has turned into, what does it mean for Palworld to infringe on Nintendo’s content?

Why Is Nintendo Attacking Palworld’s Gameplay?

      Pal Base in Palworld

A few big pieces of the debate need to be brought up. For one, this case is being handled in Japan which, compared to America, means that litigation and infringement cases are carried out a bit differently.

This focus on Japanese markets can be seen in Pocketpair’s previous hesitation to release the game on PS5 in the country, which indicates that releasing the game on the platform there would probably fuel Nintendo’s previously established accusations in Japan.

Second, it should be noted that because Nintendo is focusing on gameplay, not previously assumed aspects like 3D models, all of these tactics should be expected. Nintendo is purposefully attacking gameplay elements like the Pals releasing out of balls, and the ability to ride around on these Pals.

Nintendo Predicts Massive Switch 2 Launch Sales, But Isn’t Ruling Out A Price Increase If Tariff Situation Changes

Nintendo’s sales forecasts for the year would make the Switch 2 one of the biggest console launches of all time.

Simply put, Nintendo’s legal team is attacking everything surrounding Palworld’s gameplay. This is exactly what Pocketpair is referencing when they mention how “we have had to make certain compromises in order to avoid disruptions to the development and distribution of Palworld.”

But this begins to get murky because, like Warner Bros. patenting the nemesis system, taking control of gameplay systems is inherently vague and detrimental to the industry’s growth. What most fans are actually upset about is Nintendo essentially saying they have ownership of a certain type of gameplay.

However, from Digimon to other monster collecting games, some of which were founded before Nintendo even made Pokémon, it’s not as though Pokémon is the first and only to do it.

Sadly, we’ll likely see a few more compromises between Nintendo and companies like Pocketpair in the future, and it’ll likely take a lot more time to see who comes on top in this recent court case.

The 2025 Action-Packed Sniper Movie That’s Killing It On Netflix – SlashFilm

The 2025 Action-Packed Sniper Movie That’s Killing It On Netflix – SlashFilm

Back in 2023, two films from a franchise you’d probably never heard of hit the Netflix Top 10: “Sniper: Assassin’s End” and “Sniper: Ultimate Kill.” These movies constitute just a small part of a long-running saga that began with 1993’s “Sniper,” a Tom Berenger actioner that created a sprawling direct-to-video franchise that now comprises 11 films. Even though Berenger departed after the third instalment, Sony has been churning out “Sniper” movies with alarming consistency ever since 1993.

Berenger played Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett, an elite sharpshooter who in “Sniper” loses his partner Doug Papich (Aden Young) on a mission in Panama. Papich is replaced by another sniper in the form of Richard Miller (Billy Zane), who is Beckett’s superior but has nowhere near his subordinate’s level of real-world experience. The pair is then forced to work together as they embark on a mission to kill Panamanian rebel Miguel Alvarez (Frederick Miragliotta). Ever since, the “Sniper” movies have become something almost unrecognizable from the original film, which was met with lukewarm reviews and made around just $18 million at the box office. Chad Michael Collins took over for the fourth movie, “Sniper: Reloaded,” playing Beckett’s estranged son, Gunnery Sergeant Brandon Beckett, and became the new face of the “Sniper” saga. He has been with the franchise ever since, representing a constant for the series as it has shifted tone multiple times and even seen Berenger return for several sequels.

If you’re interested or just confused by the whole thing, here’s a list of the current “Sniper” movies: “Sniper” (1993), “Sniper 2” (2002), “Sniper 3” (2004), “Sniper: Reloaded” (2011), “Sniper: Legacy” (2014), “Sniper: Ghost Shooter” (2016), “Sniper: Ultimate Kill” (2017), “Sniper: Assassin’s End” (2020), “Sniper: Rogue Mission” (2022), “Sniper: G.R.I.T. – Global Response & Intelligence Team” (2023), and “Sniper: The Last Stand” (2025).”

Following the previous Netflix success of “Sniper: Assassin’s End” and “Sniper: Ultimate Kill,” and the Netflix dominance of Clint Eastwood’s controversial sniper movie “American Sniper” this year, “Sniper: The Last Stand” has now proven to be yet another streaming hit, rising up the Netflix charts with the top spot in its sight.

Sniper: The Last Stand sets its sights on a Netflix number one

With a full 11 “Sniper” movies on offer, the franchise might seem a little daunting to newcomers. But due to the fact that there are no sequels, prequels, or reboots (unless you count the soft reboot that was “Sniper: Reloaded”), the best way to watch the “Sniper” films is, fittingly, just a straight shot through all 11 installments. If you’re considering getting acquainted with this lesser-known action franchise, now might be a good time because the latest entry has just hit Netflix and is already proving hugely popular.

In “Sniper: The Last Stand,” Chad Michael Collins’ Brandon Becket is tasked with bringing down an arms dealer (Arnold Vosloo) before he can deploy a superweapon. Thankfully, Beckett has some help in the form of Agent Zero (Ryan Robbins), and together, the pair are deployed to Costa Verde where they lead a group of elite soldiers against a local militia in pursuit of the arms dealer and his destructive superweapon. As if that weren’t enough to deal with, Beckett also takes a rookie sniper under his wing.

That all seems to be a perfect formula for Netflix success. “Sniper: The Last Stand” hit the streamer on May 6, 2025 and according to FlixPatrol, a site that tracks viewership data across the streaming platforms, became an instant hit stateside. The film debuted as the number two most-watched film in the United States on May 7, 2025, suggesting it might just be able to take the number one position as the week plays out.

Is Sniper: The Last Stand worth watching?

At the time of writing, “Sniper: The Last Stand has just two reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, neither of which are from the so-called “top critics.” That said, those two reviews are positive, but it still means the Tomatometer is yet to produce an overall percentage. It is worth bearing in mind that the “Sniper” movies are very much made for streaming. Despite the fact that the franchise began back in 1993, it basically became the quintessential Netflix action saga even before Netflix existed, with a string of direct-to-DVD movies that have since found a perfect home over on the king of streamers. As such, don’t expect prestige action movie filmmaking with “Sniper: The Last Stand.”

That’s not to knock the films. Clearly, the cast is dedicated to the series, with Chad Michael Collins in particular giving his all in every installment. As Nick Rogers of the Midwest Film Journal writes in one of the few reviews for “The Last Stand,” “There are some obvious frustrations and limitations inherent to the low-budget concern of the whole thing. But the ‘Sniper’ franchise has found a solid — and refreshingly female-centric — groove in its third decade.”

Whether that will be enough for the 11th movie in the series to claim the number one spot on the U.S. most-watched films chart remains to be seen. In order to do so, “The Last Stand” will have to snipe German thriller “Exterritorial” from the top spot, which previously dethroned Tom Hardy’s “Havoc.” “The Last Stand” is also being chased by the first “Twilight” movie in the number three position, which remains the best of the “Twilight” saga and surely one of the most formidable enemies Brandon Beckett will ever face.
