Sony’s latest financial report has revealed that critical darling Astro Bot has managed to sell 1.5 million copies in its first month.

That comes alongside news that the PS5 has now sold 65 million consoles. Sales have dropped from a year ago – 8.2m in the same quarter compared to 6.2m this quarter – but Sony is also reporting better profitability on its hardware.

That’s enough to rank the PS5 as the 13th best selling console of all time, behind the Nintendo 3DS. The PS3 sits at just over 87 million while the massively successful PS4 is a smidgen over 117 million. The PS2, of course, is still the best selling console of all time, although it’s looking like the Nintendo Switch could claim that crown in the next few years.

PlayStation’s cutest character is back and this time he’s starring in his very own triple-A blockbuster release. Incredibly fun, absolutely beautiful and filled with charm, Astro Bot is in strong contention for Game of the Year.

Overall, the PS5 is trailing slightly behind the PS4, which at this point in its lifespan had sold around 67 million units.

Things are looking pretty good for Sony at the moment. The company reported that operating income is up 184% over last year, while sales from its Game and Network Services were up 12% as well.

Scooting back to Astro Bot, its sales numbers certainly don’t put it up with any of PlayStation’s biggest hitters like Spider-Man, God of War or Horizon, but considering the game should have hopefully been made on a relatively small budget Sony will surely be happy with the numbers. Right? Well, it’s hard to say. With game budgets spiraling out of control these days, it’s becoming increasingly hard to judge what is and is not successful.

It is a little odd that Astro Bot’s developers and Sony didn’t post anything about the game breaking the 1 million mark on Twitter. Hopefully that isn’t a sign that the numbers aren’t meeting Sony’s expectations.
