Square Enix has released another trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, giving us a much closer look at its gorgeous HD-2D world, characters and traditional turn-based battles.
In the aptly named “Pixel Trailer,” the new footage just shows how the publisher is blending classic Final Fantasy sprites with detailed 3D environments, dynamic lighting, and cinematic camera angles.
The trailer explores several areas you will visit, including Dilmagia, a steel-covered city responsible for developing airship technology, and Olderion, a stunning aquatic capital protected by the Wardens of the Waters.
We also get another look at the game’s party members. These include Lid, an engineer who fights alongside her mechanical Chocobo, Mechabo, and Nichol, a strategist dedicated to protecting Olderion and its Water Shrine.
Final Fantasy Resonance brings back traditional battles
As previously alluded to, Final Fantasy Resonance uses a strategic turn-based combat system in which exploiting weaknesses can stagger enemies, break their defences, and grant additional turns. Staggering every opponent during the same turn can also trigger a Resonance attack with one of your equipped Visions.
Visions are manifestations of heroes from throughout Final Fantasy history, allowing characters such as Cecil, Bartz, Squall, Zidane and Tidus to lend their skills to your party. Bonds with Visions can be strengthened to unlock additional abilities, so there should be plenty of room to experiment with different setups.

Classic Espers are also returning. Ifrit, Shiva and Titan can enter combat for three turns before unleashing their familiar signature attacks, including Hellfire and Diamond Dust.
All of this makes for what we hope will be a very interesting playthrough. The HD-2D graphics alone are more than worth exploring what Square Enix has cooked up, but with all the added mechanics, it’s only getting juicier and juicier as we head closer to the game’s release date.
If you like the sound of any of the above, pick up a copy of Final Fantasy Resonance when it launches on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
