The indie selection on the Nintendo eShop was pure slop this week, so lets go back and do a slightly older title. That is the sequel to Moto Rush GT, Moto Rush Reborn. Now GT you’ve probably seen because it was rebundled like fifty times over the years. Moto Rush Reborn is its sequel, taking place on the roads of a cyberpunk Tokyo. And it wears its influence on its sleeve, as there is a full manga in-game that you unlock over the course of the game.
What is Moto Rush Reborn?
Moto Rush Reborn is auto-driving game spread over forty-five levels. The motorcycle propels itself, though you can speed up and slow down(both have their uses). You can also slide and duck(both also having their uses). The levels are divided into highway sections, and “stunt sections.” The highway sections have you weaving in between traffic. The stunt sections are narrower and have you weaving, jumping, sliding and ducking obstacles. At the of each section is a very helpful checkpoint.

Remember the manga above, well in Moto Rush Reborn, you unlock it via sigils. At the end of every level, you are judged on three criteria: Time, deaths and traffic near-misses. There are three ranks in each for a total of nine sigils, plus 3-5 collectible sigils placed in stunt sections. Moto Rush Reborn is designed so that you play levels multiple times. It even suggests you focus on one task per run. Like if you’re going for minimal deaths, you’re not gonna want to go for traffic near-misses. Going for all three criteria means you’ll probably get none.

Moto Rush Reborn is very low budget. There are like 2 music tracks in the entire game. Assets are reused endlessly. That said, this is a highly polished, well-made game. Its fun, its challenging and unlocking the full manga will take quite awhile. There is even a chill endless drive mode(though I don’t see a point in playing it). Now the verdict and score: Must Play with a nine score… wait what? Yes, I stand by that. The game play is so good, it overcomes its weaknesses. Will Moto Rush Reborn get rebundled 1000 times, probably. But if you see one, pick it up.
Overall: Moto Rush Reborn is a stellar low budget driving game with a shocking amount of depth and skill needed to unlock the full manga included.
Verdict: Must Play
Score: Nine
