Pull on your space boots and clear your calendar; one of the most eagerly-awaited sci-fi RPGs of the generation has just opened its airlock. Yep, The Outer Worlds 2 is here, five days ahead of the street release.
The Outer Worlds 2, the sequel to Obsidian’s award-winning masterpiece, is available to play right now, on Xbox Series X|S and PC for anyone who purchases the Premium Edition.
The Standard Edition (£59.99) and the Day One Game Pass launch are set to follow on 29th October, but if you can’t wait to dive into a new colony, your ship is ready for boarding.
A New Frontier, A New Conflict
Your new adventure takes you to the Arcadia colony, the home of skip drive technology and, unfortunately, a world on the brink of collapse. Devastating rifts are tearing the system apart, and three warring factions – the Protectorate, a religious order, and a corporate invasion – are all fighting to control (or close) the rifts for their own ends.
As a daring (and most likely good-looking) Earth Directorate agent, your investigation into the rifts’ origins will put you at the very centre of this conflict. The fate of the colony, and ultimately the entire galaxy, rests on your decisions.
Your Ship, Your Crew, Your Way
This is a true Obsidian RPG, which means the colony reacts to your every move. You are free to build your character with the abilities and choices that reflect your playstyle. Whether you choose to be a disciple of diplomacy, an astute strategist, a crusader for pure chaos, or something else entirely, the narrative is yours to own.
A new adventure means a new crew to recruit. The Outer Worlds 2 features a cast of new companions, each with their own unique traits, backgrounds, and personal goals. Whether you choose to help them achieve their ambitions or steer them toward your own objectives, your influence will shape their growth (or their untimely death), making them an integral part of the immersive story you create together.
Standing on the Shoulders of a Giant
The original The Outer Worlds was a critical darling, and a game we adored. In our review from 2019, we called it “so much more than Fallout in space,” and had “no hesitation in recommending it to anyone and everyone.”
The sequel has some of the biggest corporate-branded boots in the galaxy to fill, and now it’s finally time to see if it can.
Your Journey, on Any Planet
The Outer Worlds 2 is a flagship Xbox Play Anywhere title. This fantastic feature means your adventure across the stars can continue, no matter which device you’re on.
A single digital purchase on the Microsoft Store (or your Game Pass subscription) unlocks the game for you on both your Xbox Series X|S console and your Windows PC. All of your saves, achievements, and add-ons are synced via the cloud, so you can seamlessly switch between platforms without ever losing your progress.
How to Play: Early Access vs. Game Pass
You have a couple of choices for how you want to start your journey in Arcadia:
