Developer Fumi Games and publisher Playside Studios have officially announced the release date for Mouse: P.I. For Hire—a first-person shooter with an old-school animation style reminiscent of the first Disney cartoons. Unlike the cartoons of yore, Mouse: P.I. For Hire isn’t family-friendly.

Today, we got a new trailer announcing the game’s release date after a recent delay.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire Lets You Shoot Enemies As Mickey Mouse

While it doesn’t say it, clearly the character is modeled after Disney’s Mickey Mouse, after Steamboat Willie entered the public domain. Given we’ll never ever see Mickey wield a gun, this is the next best thing (after a keyblade, at least). If you ever wanted to have Mickey Mouse go to town on other characters that irked him, Mouse: P.I. For Hire kind of lets you do that.

You’ll have to wait a few months before you can do so, however, as Mouse: P.I. For Hire is releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 19, 2026.

The game’s protagonist, Jack Pepper, will be voiced by none other than Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle), which is something we reported on back in June, and we’re glad that hasn’t changed.

The game’s story mentions. ” MOUSE: P.I. For Hire puts you in a world where danger lurks even in the tiniest mouse hole. The seedy underbelly of Mouseburg teems with grimy gangs and crooked cops, and as Jack Pepper you must unravel a complex web of intrigue, with corruption, kidnapping and murder all on the docket. Something stinks in Mouseburg, and it’s not just the overripe brie.”

Straight from the press release, here are the key features for this quirky animated first-person shooter:

Black and white, hand-drawn rubber hose animation, inspired by cartoons of the 1930s

Fast-paced FPS combat, where constant movement is key

A thrilling single-player campaign that unravels a complex web of crime and corruption

Over 20 noir-infused levels, teeming with mice, rats and shrews

Fully-loaded arsenal of over a dozen weapons and equipment – with a cartoon twist

Devastating consumable power-ups, capable of turning the tide of any battle

Unlockable movement abilities and Metroidvania-inspired level traversal

Original jazz soundtrack, featuring a big band orchestral ensemble

The art style is similar to Cuphead, which is one of the most memorable and better indie games released in recent memory. Will Mouse: P.I. For Hire join Cuphead that doesn’t rely solely on its animation as its main gimmick? We sure hope so.

Mouse: P.I For Hire releases March 19, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
