Base to Prioritize Creators Over Traders, Says Architect Jesse Pollak – Decrypt

In brief

Jesse Pollak said Base’s “north star” is supporting creators and developers, not traders, following backlash over a collapsed content token.
The statement came after Pump.fun’s Alon Cohen argued traders are crypto’s most important users.
Tensions grew as Zora, the protocol used in the mint, announced its token launch for April 23, though Pollak denied any coordination.

Coinbase’s Layer 2 network Base’s creator, Jesse Pollak, has defended the platform’s focus on creators, following backlash over an experimental content token drop.

“If you are a creator or developer and you want to be the #1 priority, we would love to have you on Base,” Pollak tweeted Monday.

Pollak was responding to Pump.fun co-founder Alon Cohen’s criticism, who tweeted Monday, “traders are easily the most important user group in crypto,” not creators or developers.

“I love traders, but our north star is helping creators and developers build their dreams—everything else is downstream of that,” the Base creator said in rebuttal.

The back-and-forth rekindled tensions over Base’s recent onchain campaign, which saw a post from its official X account automatically minted into a token through Zora, triggering a frenzy that sent its market cap to $16.9 million, before crashing by 92% within hours.

Though Base confirmed to Decrypt last week that it never sold the tokens—labeling them unofficial—critics, such as Cohen, have already called the rollout irresponsible.

In his latest rebuttal, Cohen argued that creative projects don’t survive without trader demand. “If traders don’t see value, creators and devs don’t eat and go elsewhere,” he said.

Pollak pushed back, saying “trading is downstream of creativity,” with volume and growth following suit, adding that his main priority is growing creators and creativity onchain.

“Everything else will take care of itself,” he said.

“Happy to [circle back]—I’ll still be focused on creators and developers,” Pollak told Cohen, who suggested they revisit the debate in a month.

Since the token mint, Pollak has maintained that the bigger mission is building a “global on-chain economy” that prioritizes ownership and creativity over speculation.

Tensions escalated further after Zora, the protocol used in the mint, announced Monday it would launch its own token this week.

Community members, such as Phin Totten, the marketing lead at Ethereum L2 Abstract, pointed to the timing, with some suggesting Base’s “coin everything” push may have amplified snapshot activity ahead of Zora’s airdrop.

Jesse Pollak denied coordinating with Zora on its April 23 token launch, saying the Base minting campaign “went 0 to 1 in a day” and Zora “didn’t know until after it happened.”

A far cry from its peak, the auto-minted token is now down 25% on the day, holding a $5 million valuation at $0.0057, according to DexScreener data.

Is May the beginning of a new growth cycle for Bitcoin?

Is May the beginning of a new growth cycle for Bitcoin?

Amid growing concerns over escalating U.S.–China trade tensions and the weakening U.S. dollar, gold – the traditional safe-haven asset, broke its previous record, reaching $3,384 per ounce on April 21, 2025.

Shortly after, Bitcoin followed a similar trajectory, surging sharply to the $87,000 level — its highest point in nearly a month. This movement echoes mid-2020, when BTC began to be recognized as “digital gold” by institutional investors.

Bitcoin’s Performance Silences Doubts

Data from TradingView shows that Bitcoin’s dominance (BTC.D) surpassed 64% in mid-April— the highest level since 2021. This surge reflects a return to “safe haven” assets within the crypto market, as capital temporarily exits more volatile altcoins.

Bitcoin Dominance – Source: TradingView

Market history shows that every major crypto bull cycle begins with Bitcoin leading the way before momentum spills over into other digital assets. Analysts view the rise in BTC dominance as a positive accumulation signal for a new growth phase.

Two structural factors are fueling this renewed optimism: the Bitcoin halving event in April 2024 and renewed inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs.

On April 17, total net inflows into U.S.-listed Bitcoin ETFs reached $106.9 million, the highest in nearly a month, according to Blockchain.News. BlackRock’s IBIT fund accounted for over 75% of the total capital. Institutional investors view this trend as a strong response to the correction from the $74,000 peak in March.

In the long term, the halving reduces daily BTC issuance by half, naturally creating upward price pressure. Historical data shows that in all three previous cycles, BTC prices surged 6 to 12 months after each halving event.

Long-Term Forecast: $1 Million to $1.5 Million – Hope or Just a Hype?

Robert Kiyosaki, author of the best-selling book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, recently reiterated his belief that Bitcoin could reach $1 million by 2035. In a post on X, he warned, “A Great Depression is coming. Credit card debt, student loans, and national debt are exploding. Unemployment is rising, and pensions are going bankrupt. You should stock up on gold, silver, and Bitcoin before it’s too late.”

Kiyosaki’s argument centers on the looming collapse of the traditional financial system. He believes governments and central banks will be unable to stop the spiraling debt and currency devaluation. To him, Bitcoin is an “escape-from-the-system” asset, much like gold was in the 20th century.

Meanwhile, Cathie Wood, CEO of Ark Invest, has set an even more ambitious target. In a recent interview with Bloomberg TV, Wood stated that if institutional investors continue increasing their exposure to digital assets, Bitcoin could hit $1.5 million by 2030.

She argued that the market is still in the early stages of adoption, and a mere 2–3% shift in global assets toward Bitcoin would be enough to trigger a massive bull cycle.

“Bitcoin is the perfect digital solution to scarcity. Institutions have only dipped one foot into the market. If they step in fully, you won’t have time to board the train,” Wood said at the Invest In Innovation conference in March.

However, not everyone shares this optimism. “Whenever markets bet on sky-high targets, they often underestimate the real-world risks,” veteran analyst Benjamin Cowen warned in his April 20 newsletter. “If the Fed keeps rates higher than expected or if the U.S. imposes new taxes or mining restrictions, the entire rally could reverse in days.”

Trump & China: The Underlying Risk Facing Crypto Markets

The recent surge in gold and Bitcoin prices isn’t just driven by the narrative of “safe haven assets.” Global macroeconomic forces, particularly those stemming from China and the U.S., are exerting a new layer of invisible pressure on digital asset markets.

The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) has just marked its fifth consecutive month of gold purchases. In March 2025 alone, China added 5 metric tons to its reserves, bringing the official total to a record high of 2,292 tons, representing about 6.5% of the country’s total foreign exchange reserves.

However, the real figures may be significantly higher. According to a new report from Goldman Sachs, China is estimated to have purchased as much as 50 tons of gold in February, 10 times the officially reported amount. Over the past three years, China’s gold transactions on the London OTC market have far exceeded public disclosures, suggesting that Beijing is quietly stockpiling gold to reduce its dependence on the U.S. dollar and Western financial systems.

“This isn’t just about hoarding precious metals; it’s a geopolitical strategy,” noted a senior analyst at ANZ Bank. “China is clearly preparing for a prolonged period of financial tension with the United States.”

As China turns to gold, Trump’s U.S. seems to be entering a new era of “Bitcoin nationalization.”

On the surface, it may seem like a historic milestone—recognizing Bitcoin as a component of the national financial strategy. However, several experts have raised concerns about the potential long-term consequences.

Several crypto firms linked to Eric Trump and Jared Kushner appear to benefit from Trump-era favorable policies. These include privileged access to state-held Bitcoin reserves and federal digital asset contracts.

Renae Warner of Georgetown warned that economic power shouldn’t rest with politicians and Bitcoin must stay politically independent.

Lastly, Coinglass data shows long positions clustering at $91K – $95K, while shorts pile up around $82K – $84K. If BTC breaks $90,000, a major short squeeze could follow, triggering auto-buys and a sharp price spike.

However, a drop below $85,000 could spark a long liquidation cascade and drive prices down sharply within hours.

Conclusion

May signal a new Bitcoin growth cycle, fueled by halving, ETF inflows, and global economic shifts. As China hoards gold and Trump eyes Bitcoin control, digital assets are turning into tools of state strategy.

Still, investors should temper their optimism with caution. Elevated rates, miner taxes, and political risks threaten Bitcoin’s momentum. Is this a true supercycle or just a brief rally amid lingering macro uncertainty?

Nintendo Switch Online Adds Another Fire Emblem GBA Game

Nintendo has added another classic title to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. The acclaimed strategy RPG Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is now available to play through the service’s Game Boy Advance library.

Originally released in 2005, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones marked the second Fire Emblem game to be localized and released outside of Japan. The game follows royal twins Eirika and Ephraim as they each set out across the continent of Magvel on a quest to halt the militant Grado Empire.

As previously mentioned, the Game Boy Advance library is available exclusively as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack plan. This premium tier offers all of the features of the base Switch Online plan along with additional perks, including access to select DLC, as well as classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games.

A base Switch Online membership costs $20 per year, while an Expansion Pack plan costs $50. Nintendo also offers an annual family plan for $80 that covers up to eight different Nintendo Accounts across multiple systems.

Nintendo regularly expands the Switch Online service with new content and perks. Earlier this month, the company added three more classic Sega games to the Genesis library, while GameCube games are coming to the service exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.

Switch Online members can also access the exclusive Nintendo Music smartphone app, which lets users listen to a growing collection of Nintendo soundtracks. Coinciding with Sacred Stones’ release, Nintendo Music just added the soundtrack for Fire Emblem Engage, the series’ most recent Switch installment.

The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Habbo X and Habbo Game | NFT News Today

The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Habbo X and Habbo Game | NFT News Today

Habbo X brings blockchain innovation to the long-standing virtual world of Habbo Classic, creating a dual ecosystem where players navigate between traditional gameplay and NFT-powered features. With 6,576 daily active players as of April 2025, the platforms combine MMORPG elements with social simulation and Web3 integration, appealing to both nostalgic users and crypto enthusiasts.

Key Takeaways

Habbo X introduces blockchain features like NFT avatars, Genesis Rooms producing monthly NFT crates, and NFTC Gates where hosts can earn up to 1,200 NFTC monthly.

Advanced room design techniques using Wired systems can prevent exploits, with L-shaped layouts retaining visitors 22% longer than standard designs.

Top Habbo sellers earn $300-$500 monthly through trading, while others offer room design consultations ($20-$50/hour) and Wired scripting services ($100+/project).

Community events like Costume Change and Trivia Races drive engagement, with pre-built templates reducing setup time by 70%.

Getting Started in the Habbo Universe

Starting your journey across both Habbo platforms requires understanding their distinct features while recognizing their shared foundation. For Habbo Classic, account creation follows the traditional username and password method. However, Habbo X requires an additional step: connecting a compatible crypto wallet for accessing NFT features.

Avatar customization begins with selecting your basic appearance, but Habbo X takes this further with NFT Avatar integration. These blockchain-verified characters offer unique benefits and can be traded between users. First-time users should focus on completing the orientation process, which now includes specific tutorials on Web3 features like wallet security and NFT ownership.

The platforms share common social interactions, but differ in their economic systems – Classic uses the traditional credit system while Habbo X introduces NFTC tokens for transactions.

Mastering Social Events

Hosting events is central to building your Habbo reputation. Here are some popular event types that drive engagement:

Costume Change: Players swap outfits based on themes or categories

Trivia Races: Knowledge-based competitions with staged progression

Don’t Hit My Wall: Obstacle courses testing player movement skills

Room design for events benefits from Wired triggers, which automate game mechanics and player interactions. Using pre-built templates reduces setup time by 70%, letting you focus on creative elements rather than technical setup. For maximum visibility, partnering with community sites like HabboQuests can increase your room traffic by approximately 25%.

Economic Strategies Across Platforms

The Habbo economy spans both traditional and blockchain systems, offering multiple paths to virtual wealth. In Habbo Classic, the Furni market remains active, with items like Throne Sofas driving significant trading activity. Player-to-player trading happens through room-based exchanges and third-party marketplaces, which currently list 38 active Habbo Coin offers.

Top traders earn $300-$500 monthly through platforms like PlayerAuctions, while service providers charge premium rates for:

Room design consultations: $20-$50 per hour

Wired scripting commissions: $100+ per project

Habbo X introduces NFT monetization, allowing owners to generate passive income through room rentals, special access fees, and appreciating digital assets.

Habbo X Blockchain Features

The integration of blockchain technology in Habbo X creates new economic opportunities through several key systems:

NFTC tokens serve as the primary utility token, used for transactions, staking, and accessing exclusive content. Genesis Rooms produce monthly NFT crates containing limited-edition items, creating a steady supply of collectibles. Room owners can establish NFTC Gates charging between 5-25 NFTC per entry, with 30% of fees going to prize pools for competitions.

The most successful NFTC Gate hosts (top 10%) earn over 1,200 NFTC monthly, creating a viable income stream. NFT Room ownership grants special privileges and revenue sharing options, while limited-edition speech bubbles have shown approximately 8% monthly appreciation in value since their introduction.

Staking mechanisms allow players to lock tokens for periodic rewards, creating passive income alongside active gameplay earnings.

Advanced Room Design Techniques

Creating popular, high-traffic rooms requires technical skill beyond basic decoration. The Wired system forms the backbone of interactive spaces, with advanced configurations preventing common exploits while enhancing visitor experience.

Room layout significantly impacts visitor retention – analysis shows L-shaped rooms keep visitors engaged 22% longer than traditional square designs. Factory layouts optimized for resource generation produce 15% more rare items compared to standard configurations.

Anti-blocker mechanics prevent griefing by ensuring smooth traffic flow, while strategic furniture placement creates natural pathways guiding visitors through your space.

Building Your Habbo Community

Your reputation determines your influence within the Habbo ecosystem. Rooms consistently rated 4.5 stars or higher see 50% higher return visitor rates, making quality and user experience essential. Content creation, particularly tutorials on advanced Wired systems.

Effective moderation requires both social skills and technical tools. Real-time adjustment of room settings allows hosts to maintain order without disrupting the overall atmosphere. Establishing clear rules and enforcing them consistently builds trust with regular visitors.

Creating themed events aligned with seasonal Habbo campaigns increases visibility, while collaborations with established community figures can introduce your space to new audiences.

The Future of Habbo

The Habbo roadmap reveals ambitious plans for expanding the platform. AI features, including NPC dialogue generators, are planned for implementation in 2025, creating more dynamic interactions.

Navigator 2.0 has already increased room visibility by 40%, with further discovery improvements planned. However, player sentiment indicates some challenges ahead – surveys show 45% of users express concerns about increased blockchain dependency.

For both new and returning players, understanding the dual nature of modern Habbo will be essential. As the platforms continue to evolve, adaptability and community engagement remain key factors for long-term success in this unique virtual world.

Mina Mack has had it rough since moving to the United States on 90 Day Fiance. She made it through a weekend with Mark Bessette’s family. Some of whom questioned her motives and advocated for her to sign a prenup. She fought with Mark’s daughter Jordan. And finally arrived in Florida for a vacation to meet some of Mark’s friends. However the first friend she met, Diana, seemed more like a frenemy

Diane filled Mina’s head with doubts. She suggested Mark was still in love with his ex Jade. And has referred to Mina as a “replacement” for Jade. She suggests he was talking to both women at the same time. And gifted Jade a BMW. Mina Mack takes matters into her own hands. And arranges to have drinks with the mysterious Jade so she can find out what really went on with her and Mark.

What Mina didn’t expect is that Jade was completely honest and at the same time very friendly on 9o Day Fiance. Jade answered her questions clearly and without sass or shade. She did tell Mina Mack that it was she that initiated the break-up and not Mark as he claimed. But she revealed there are no more feelings between them. And warned her about Mark’s family’s interference. Mina enjoyed meeting Jade and suggested she may even invite her to their wedding. Mark Bessette breathed a sigh of relief when Mina came home happy.

Matt Jlassi Suspicious of Any’s Secret Life

Our favorite 90 Day Fiance throuple are on the road again. After a tumultuous rendezvous in Ensenada where three was sometimes a crowd, they are returning to Tijuana. Any Aguirre is eager to get back to Tijuana and see her young daughter Antonella. Amani Jlassi has brought toys and gifts for Antonella. Any Aguirre laughs from the backseat while sipping on her ever present juice box. And suggests Antonella gets plenty of gifts from men who Any knows from her work at the gentleman’s club.

While Matt and Amani clutch their pearls over this, Any suggests it really isn’t a big deal. And admits she will be taking the stage tonight as it’s back to the proverbial grind. Amani pouts and admits she’s jealous of the fellows who will be interacting with Any at the club. Next the married two thirds of the throuple complain that while they have told their children that Any is a “special” kind of friend, Any just passes them off to her child as regular old friends.

Later, on 90 Day Fiance, Matt expresses his doubts about Any’s sincerity. Amani admits she’s shook up about her continuing to dance and taking gifts from men. But she comes clean to Matt that Any also kind of threw him under the bus by professing her love for Amani. And suggesting she was in it for Amani and not Matt. He’s upset of course and wonders what he got himself into.

TLC Couple Joan Kruchov and Greg Chillak Argue over Privacy

On 90 Day Fiance, Greg Chillak gets buttoned down for his job interview. He heads out leaving Joan and his mom together at the house. His mom admits Joan Kruchov isn’t lazy. And even asked for a bucket and mop to clean the bathroom. So, Greg’s mom suggests Joan help her sort a basket of mismatched socks. While they sort, his mom asks Joan to be honest about anything she could do to make her feel more comfortable at the house. Joan suggests she get out of the house more often.

Of course, his mom takes offense to this. It’s her house after all. Later Greg Chillak returns and his mom confides in him about Joan’s comments. Greg reassures her that she didn’t mean to offend. But that he will speak with her about it. Joan defends herself since his mom is the one that asked. And she feels they need more privacy.

90 Day Fiance: Sarper Guven Just Can’t Win

Sarper Guven is ready to try again with Shekinah Garner’s family on 90 Day Fiance. After puking in front of her daughter on a whale watching cruise, he’s ready to give things another go-round with her sisters. Shekinah is the oldest of 6 girls. And three of them have agreed to meet up with her and Sarper when they travel to Montana. While Shekinah Garner enjoyed some aspects of growing up in Montana, she wanted a different lifestyle. So, she likes to visit but then is ready to return to her life in Los Angeles.

Once the couple arrive to big sky country they stop off for some horseback riding. When it’s time to meet up with the siblings, Sarper wears an American flag shirt and admits he feels like he’s facing a firing squad. Shekinah’s sisters arrive to the restaurant. The resemblance is clear. Although the sisters sport an abundance of tattoos and turquoise. Shekinah looks more like she’s headed to a PTA meeting in comparison to her edgier sisters.

Sarper Guven just can’t help but put his foot in his mouth. He asks the siblings if they too are like geishas. Everyone starts ganging up on Sarper. Shekinah explains he just enjoys her serving him without asking. Then Sarper says he preferred the old Shekinah because she was so obedient. He’s trying to explain that he’s changed. But the siblings can’t get past what he’s already said on 90 Day Fiance.

90 Day Fiance: Mahdi Draws Cheers for his Proposal

Mahdi Al-Saadi has a plan. He secured the blessing of Stevi Savage’s father Perry to re-propose. So he wants to do it right this time. Stevi has sent him hints about getting down on one knee and planning something romantic. He arranges a road trip to Ocean Springs. A place Stevi has always wanted to visit. He gets a cute Airbnb and doesn’t reveal the destination once they hit the road. Stevi is happily surprised when they arrive and eager to check out the shops and local coffee.

But Mahdi is one step ahead on 90 Day Fiance. He set up a romantic ‘Will you marry me” sign on the beach with some candles. And he has a ring in his pocket. He leads Stevi towards the beach past a group doing yoga. Mahdi Al-Saadi tells Stevi she’s definitely the one. And she sees the romantic set-up. He gets down on one knee and proposes. Stevi Savage says yes and the yoga class cheers.

Finally, Jaun David Daza isn’t loving his tenure as a Mr. Mom. He struggles to make boxed macaroni and cheese. And misses his days on the cruise ship. Besides, Jessica’s friend Megin will not stop badgering him about his indiscretion on the high seas. Even Jessica Parsons tells her to let it go. But she threatens him during a night of bowling that if he cheats again she will ruin his life. Juan tells her to lay off and she trips up on the lane and falls flat. He says it’s karma. Till next time!

Meatbags NFT Launches Campaign to Turn Nuclear Bunker Into DAO-Owned Club | NFT News Today

Meatbags NFT Launches Campaign to Turn Nuclear Bunker Into DAO-Owned Club | NFT News Today

Solana-based NFT project Meatbags is launching a $1.4 million crowdfunding campaign to purchase a Cold War-era nuclear bunker in Rutland, England. The doomsday-themed digital collectible project, led by the pseudonymous team Dead Bruv, plans to sell 100,000 NFTs at $14 each to fund acquisition and renovation of the historic military installation through a decentralized governance model.

          Key details:

Meatbags will sell 100,000 NFTs at $14 each, with 10,000 reserved for existing holders via a 1:1 airdrop.

The bunker auction is scheduled for April 24 with a guide price of £650,000 (~$862,257).

NFT holders will join the “Billionaire Bunker Club” DAO to vote on future uses of the property.

The 1.4-acre site features a 1960s British Royal Observer Corps bunker.

If the auction bid fails, payment options include Solana Pay and credit cards, with a refund policy.

          The #buythebunker Campaign Details

The Meatbags project has set an ambitious goal of raising $1.4 million through their NFT sale running from April 21 to April 24. Each “land deed” NFT costs $14, creating a pool of funds to cover the bunker’s purchase price, renovation costs, and ongoing operational expenses.

Existing Meatbags holders will receive special treatment, with 10,000 NFTs reserved for a 1:1 airdrop. At the same time, the remaining 90,000 tokens will be available to the public. The sale timing aligns with the bunker’s auction date of April 24.

The project includes flexible payment options through Solana Pay or credit cards. he team has committed to providing refunds within six months if their auction bid fails. Any excess funds raised beyond the purchase price will be allocated through DAO votes to fund future development.

From Military Installation to NFT-Owned Property

The target property is no ordinary real estate acquisition. This Cold War relic is a 1.4-acre site featuring a 1960s British Royal Observer Corps bunker and a decommissioned reservoir. Built in 1960 and decommissioned in 1968, it was one of 1,500 nuclear monitoring posts across the UK designed to detect nuclear bursts and radiation during the Cold War.

A key selling point is that planning permission has already been approved for converting the facility into a luxury residence with cathedral-style ceilings and panoramic views. The structure’s 30-inch-thick concrete walls provide both historical significance and practical durability.

The property is currently listed by SDL Property Auctions with a guide price of £650,000. The auction is scheduled for April 24 – creating urgency for the crowdfunding campaign to reach its goals.

The Billionaire Bunker Club: DAO Governance Structure

Purchasers of the NFTs won’t just be funding the acquisition – they’ll have a say in what happens next. NFT holders will automatically gain membership to the “Billionaire Bunker Club,” a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) with voting rights on the bunker’s future purpose.

The community has already begun floating creative ideas for the space, including:

          A “Doomsday DJ” nightclub

          An apocalyptic-themed Airbnb rental

          A premium survivalist retreat

A members-only resort for NFT holders

If it all comes together, this could be one of the most interesting examples of how blockchain tech can be used to own something real.

          Crypto Crowdfunding Evolution

The Meatbags project follows in the footsteps of previous crypto-driven crowdfunding initiatives but with key differences.

In 2021, ConstitutionDAO raised an impressive $47 million in an unsuccessful bid to purchase a copy of the U.S. Constitution. More successfully, LinksDAO acquired a Scottish golf club in 2023.

What sets the Meatbags campaign apart is its focus on a physical infrastructure asset with pre-approved redevelopment plans, creating clearer utility for NFT holders.

Meghan Markle Accused of Plagiarizing Idea For Netflix Kids’ Show

Meghan Markle Accused of Plagiarizing Idea For Netflix Kids’ Show

            Reading Time: 3 minutes

With her food and lifestyle series, Meghan Markle has finally created a hit series for Netflix.

And it couldn’t have come soon enough.

Meghan and Prince Harry had some initial success for the streaming giant when they debuted a limited series about their lives back in 2021.

But the intervening years saw lots of forgettable projects (Polo, anyone?) and a few ideas that never even reached the pilot stage.

Meghan Markle appears on her new Netflix series.

One of those concepts that never got off the ground was a children’s show titled Pearl.

The show never saw the light of day, but it’s the subject of a new controversy, as a well-known British author claims that Meghan stole the idea without offering any sort of compensation.

Meghan Markle faces surprising plagiarism allegation

Mel Elliott is the author of a series of kids’ books that feature a character named Pearl Power, and she claims that Meghan or someone on her team sought to steal the concept for their show.

“Meghan is a feminist who sticks up for other women, so I was disappointed and confused to see how similar Netflix’s proposed show ‘Pearl’ was to my own Pearl Power, who had been created seven years earlier,” Elliott told the Daily Mail this week.

“Of course, I can’t know if anyone on her team had seen it and been inspired by it, but the similarities were too great for me to ignore,” she continued.

“The world of arts and media are very competitive, and I’m afraid it’s quite common for powerful to people to rip off the work of less well-known creatives — although I’m not saying that’s what happened here.”

Lawyers for Elliott attempted to reach out to the Duchess of Sussex in an effort to make her aware of “similarities between [her] proposed animation series and [Elliott’s] work,” which they stated were “too many and too striking to be mere coincidence.”

“It also appears that there is a risk that your proposed series may infringe intellectual property rights belonging to my client and/or may give rise to a claim in passing off (or in the US, some form of unfair competition,’” they wrote in one letter.

Elliot says the alleged theft took place after she shared her ideas on a “website that enables creators to connect with film and TV producers.”

“In that listing, my client says: ‘I would love to turn Pearl Power into an animated series someday, educating children about inspirational women from modern history (as well as a few men),’” says an attorney for the author.

Elliott says her legal team sent a total of three letters to Markle and Netflix about their concerns, but they never received a response.

Netflix eventually axed the show due to “budget cuts.” Elliott says she’s happy the project never materialized, but she’s still saddened by the whole situation.

Elliorr tells the Mail that she’d “glad that Meghan’s ‘Pearl’ show was dropped” and hopes she “had something to do with it.”

“But what I really wanted was for it to have gone ahead and for me to have been acknowledged or invited to work as a collaborator on the series,” she said.

“Pearl was my dream project and now, annoyingly, if I reprise my own creation, it’s going to look like I have copied the idea from someone else.”
